Great service. No frills dine-in Asian restaurant. The menu isnt over the top but has some classics on there. They have a full bar. We all ordered the wonton soup. It was so flavorful and served at the perfect temperature. The pork dumplings were so tasty. They do offer veggie and chicken dumplings. We shared the jumbo shrimp and broccoli and the ginger chicken with a sweet chilli sauce both orders came with steamed white rice. BEWARE: M Shanghai has been sold, not just moved. The reviews you see reflect the original M Shanghai on Grand, not the new location on Metropolitan. The recipes are no longer the same, and the flavors are lackluster--bland at best. It's disappointing that the original owner sold the restaurant name, allowing the brand to be misrepresented by its new owner, the Noodle Shop. So often you order dumplings and the skin breaks... but all my dumplings stayed intact and were completely delicious when I enjoyed them at home. I got a delivery order from M Shanghai. The food I order were 59. Shredded Beef with Chili pepper $20.25 and 37. Shanghai-Style Lo Main with pork $14.75 For Chinese restaurant and the quality of food compare to the price I feel it is a bit too high. The taste of food is okay I like shredded beef but not crazy about Lo-main. Because of the price point plus the taste, I'm not sure if I want to order from this place again. read more

I ordered here for a couple of years during what I refer to fondly as M Shanghai's Old Republic period. I ordered a lot of Awesome Beef, justifying it being unique in the City for the dish it was to The Wife's skeptical eyebrow lowering. But, over time, the food became inconsistent to the point of Senate dissolution. It may have rebounded, but I'll never know. Food love affairs burn bright and die hard in Brooklyn. read more

Delicious soup dumplings, but they weren't labeled as soup dumplings on the menu? I think they were pork buns on there. Took a while for us to get our food, we were the only ones in the restaurant. Price was great for them! Outdoor seating is a hit or miss, we smelled trash every few minutes and then the scent went away, but what can you do. Terence is the sweetest! Every time we come here with coworkers, he's always asking for our colleague, Bob, who travels to China quiet often. He always remembers all of us, and asks how everything is; he's delightful! Despite COVID, I am SO happy this place has survived and seems to be thriving just fine. I appreciate them being so thorough and following the rules. My coworker and I sat at the bar and were treated wonderfully by the staff. I got the Tik-Tac-Toe chicken, six piece steamed pork dumplings, and a mojito. The food was hot and the drink was delicious. The waitress made the dipping sauce for me and described the ingredients as she poured. She was very lovely. Food and hospitality is still solid but the dishes are exactly the same as they were back in 2009 however the prices don't make any sense. For example the price of the dishes changed twice already and it's only April. The owner did this before using Covid as the excuse. However I think it's completely unreasonable being that Wei which is less than 5 blocks away and has a nearly identical menu is averaging 5 dollars less on almost every "special". I can understand local restaurants struggling and trying to make ends meet but what we're seeing lately with M Shanghai is simply greedy price gouging. It's such a shame because the staff are so nice and welcoming but the owner is constantly raising the prices with no justification. Locals have been steering clear for more reasonable alternatives and it seems like the target audience is just tourists that don't know any better. read more

Born and raised in Shanghai, have to say this is a bit different from the authentic Shanghai Xiaolongbao. Not bad, but not great. I might be harsh as I grow up eating the food. The sauce is wrong. You k oh dip Xiaolongbao into simple vinegar, no soy sauce no sesame oil pls. Tried some beef stir fry, it is a bit too salty. Fried green veggie with garlic is good though. read more

Average Chinese restaurant, located in Williamsburg. The dumplings here were very good and make a great appetizer. However some of their entrees left some to be desired - the beef with vegetables entree came with too much white rice and not enough beef/veggies. I don't know why so many restaurants serve this kind of rice when it's not even healthy. There was nothing else that came with the entree either, like soup or egg roll or tea. You can find some great Chinese restaurants in NYC in Chinatown in Flushing, NY, which have far better cuisine and decor. Of course Williamsburg is a great neighborhood and more accessible but if it lacks anything it's top-notch Chinese cuisine. read more

During COVID, we ordered from here at least once a week. Their lunch specials are great, especially for the price. The other night, we finally got to swing by in-person and meet the team. They are such a lovely group of people! Someone told us that they will be hitting their 20th year in business this upcoming March, and that's awesome. Hands down some of the best scallion pancakes I've ever had. They are so crispy and, well, scallion-y. I like to eat it with hoisin sauce??? I think you get roughly around 8 for $8. We always get the shredded pork and bean curd, which comes with peppers. Usually in the delivery order it's not too spicy, but holy cow, eating IRL had me chugging water. SO SPICY! But so tasty. What I love most about M Shanghai is they use five-spice tofu, where a lot of restaurants would just use plain old tofu. Delicious! read more

I want to tell a story about May the owner....For the 4th of July I brought my mother there for her 88th Birthday! I made a reservation for 3-4 (I wasn't sure) a week in advance and May was so gracious she made sure we had a table right by the door...when my mother arrived there early from a car service and we were stuck by slow trains I was so worried...but when we arrived she was happily talking with May and enjoying a glass of Wine:) May was then so gracious waiting on us the entire time and suggesting the best dishes...my mother was so happy...when my mother remarked on how much she liked the wine and asked if she could see the label May gave her an entire bottle as a Gift!
