This place is the real deal, a true local place, not for the tourists. Two of us came for lunch yesterday and will definitely be back. The food was outstanding, not Americanized. Big portions for very reasonable prices. Has a sort of luncheonette vibe, both in terms of decor and service (and I don't mean either in a bad way). Just one thing that might put some people off: If there are just two of you, you'll be seated next to another table for two, with maybe a foot in between. Tried this spot out for lunch on a weekend and was pleasantly surprised! We managed to snag a table for two right at noon without a wait, but the line started getting loooong not long after. The restaurant is very clean and pretty spacious on the inside. For food, we ordered the BBQ pork over rice and the minced meat and preserved vegetables clay pot, and split both. The portions are surprisingly generous with the roasted meats, and the food is really tasty--we got full fast. The BBQ pork was tender and flavorful with a nice glaze, and the clay pot came out piping hot, with a great crust of rice at the bottom and a delicious meat topping that sort of resembled the inside of a dumpling (in the best way). Service can be spotty: all the servers were perfectly nice, but it took ~20 mins to place our order and a long while to get the clay pot, probably because the restaurant was pretty hectic for lunch that day. I was too lazy to make my own lunch for work today and so I stopped by here early in the morning to pick up some meat over rice instead. I love that they are opened early. This is very connivence for me. The restaurant looked clean and plenty of seatings. I ordered their trio meat over rice (soy chicken, roasted duck and roast pork) to go. Everything was quick and I was in and out of the place in less then 5 min. As for my lunch, I thought the chef could have chopped my roast pork a bit thinner. He made it too thick is makes it harder and tougher to eat. As for the duck and soy chicken it was good. I tasted a lot of the star anise in the seasoning, more so then other restaurants. Came here for dinner at 7:30pm on a Friday. It was packed (a great sign!) and we waited 5 minutes for a table for our group of 3. My friend Heard great things about the clay pot rice on social media and I was craving it. We decided to go family style and got the roasted duck leg egg noodle soup, combo claypot rice (eel, black bean sauce and pork, and taro and preserved meat), and the shrimp rice rolls. Roasted duck leg egg noodle soup: SUPER juicy and flavorful duck leg. Egg noodles are a classic pair with duck meat and the noodles were perfectly springy! The soup was simple and nourishing. Combo claypot rice (eel, black bean sauce and pork, and taro and preserved meat): Didn't know eel was a popular claypot rice topping but it seems to be here! Every meat option here was delicious. The soft taro paired well with the preserved meat (like Chinese sausage). The eel had a grilled, savory flavor but is different from typical Japanese unagi. My all-time favorite topping is the pork with black bean sauce. Maybe my friends and I should have waited a bit longer for the rice to crisp up on the bottom before serving, but we were so hungry that we went for it. I think it would've tasted overall better if we had waited longer. Shrimp rice rolls: This is a classic lunch dish. It was just as expected--the shrimp was thick and juicy, and the rice rolls were soft. The only change I'd make is to add more light soy sauce. Cleanliness of the bathroom and general areas was subpar but I didn't have high expectations for it. Our table was cleaned right before we sat down. The service was friendly although hard to flag down sometimes, especially when we needed water. There was also an option to get tea. I had a really great time at King's Kitchen. We waited a little bit to be seated as they are always busy with customers, but once we were seated, we ordered the shrimp rice rolls and the special combo rice platter. The rice rolls were pretty standard, not too chewy, perfectly hot - comparing other spots in Chinatown not anything that separates itself from the field but the claypot was the star of the show. It takes the kitchen about 20-25 minutes to make but it is served in a traditional layout where the rice starts to crisp up, giving that wonderful crunch along with the Chinese sausages and minced meat. Overall, the portions were bigger, too. The major drawback was the hard AF rice, but it tasted so good soaked in the char sui juices. The rice roll was pretty standard, but could've used some more sauce. The prunella tea ($2.50) was super refreshing and tasted like herbal jelly. I ordered the Salty Chicken clay pot rice, and drizzle on top some of the soy sauce and hot sauce that's offered. The flavors are there and the rice stays warm. As you reach the bottom it gets a little crunchy which happens with clay rice pots. The rice takes a while to come out because they have to cook them a certain way, so definitely order ahead if you don't like waiting.
