    General tso

This restaurant was around the corner from my hotel so I decided to stop by. Please be aware everything is a la cart so you have to order everything seperatly. I ordered the general tso chicken and the beef short rib. It was a solid meal taste wise but not the cook. The general tso chicken was heavy on the sweet side even tho it's advertised as spicy. The beef short rib was extremely chewey. This could have been a little more charred and it would have made it better. It did have a good seasoning on it. Beef short rib 6.5/10 General tso chicken 7/10

Service: 4.2/5 Food: 3.7/5 Price: $$ ($20-30) i usually only come here for dim sum. first time for a family meal after run club. It's funny seeing the stark contrast of 30min waits for dim sum vs. nearly all empty tables 1hr before closing. As such, the waiter was impatient + rushing us to order. Afterwards, they were very nice-making jokes with us + complimenting our semi-ok Cantonese. We ordered so many dishes (party of 11) they helped tetris our plates. Would recommend for large groups because you can share + it comes out to be pretty cheap per person. Tip: accepts credit card for a 4% fee, prefers cash. bathroom is downstairs *would recommend What I Ordered: - Young Chow fried rice: ok, no raisins + not much wok hei - *Chinese broccoli with garlic: standard - *Teriyaki sablefish: not a lot of bones, sleeper hit - *Peking pork chops: sweet + tender - Scallops + tofu w black bean sauce: not very flavorful - Walnut shrimp: ok, unexpectedly comes with melons + no broccoli - Roasted chicken: more bony pieces, still kind of tender + teensy dry - *Salted fish + eggplant clay pot: classic - Royal Special Seafood: not that special, heavy w stale or undercooked (?) taro

Average/mediocre Chinese restaurant. I ordered from the dinner menu so I can't say how their dim sum is. The restaurant is pretty big and is available for banquets. Dim sum is available only in the morning and during early lunch hours. The food was ok but nothing stood out. I had better walnut shrimp. The salt and pepper squid is a bit tough. The crispy jalapeno and fried crispies are delicious though. The seafood bird nest was a bit bland. The basket is made of some sort of fried noodles or flour instead of the traditional way with taro. The basket was not tasty. Dip it in the sauce to make it edible. It seems like very few restaurants even offer the seafood basket anymore. I actually liked the squid and seafood basket better as overnight leftovers.

This restaurant has been here since forever and as long as I can remember when I was growing up in lower East side. My family and I would always come here to get dim sum on the weekends. This place has really good dim sum. I love the black bean and garlic steamed spare ribs from this place. They are very spicy and aromatic. Steamed black bean beef tripe here is good too with the sponginess of the beef stomach with a lot of sauce. The one thing I wish when I go to this place is that the wait time is very long and when there is a table, you have to share it with other guests since they only have large round tables that seat 10 people. The good thing is that they have a separate table cloth for each party on the table.

Coming back to this restaurant was such a nostalgic experience. As a little girl, I used to come here for dim sum with my parents, and now, returning as an adult and ordering whatever I want feels completely different. I can't say the quality has stayed the same--or maybe my taste buds have just changed over the years. That said, they still serve decent dim sum, and the cart ladies are as friendly as ever. If you're planning to come here, it's best to come early, though expect a wait. Late afternoon, they often run out of popular items like shrimp rice noodle rolls--one of my favorites!

Always a go to spot for dim sum for my family and I! Gets crowded here fast and early so I'd recommend coming asap! Authentic dim sum as always, food comes pushed in carts, crowded atmosphere, shared tables & Cantonese conversations flooding the air. Dim sum is served here till 3pm then they switch to the dinner menu! Would recommend to anyone who's looking for dim sum in Chinatown or in Manhattan in general

As soon as we came in, we were greeted immediately. The server was very nice and the food came out fast. Everything tasted delicious. It was seasoned perfectly. It was crisp and had perfect texture. The environment is what you would expect of a traditional dim sum Chinese restaurant, very nice.

If you are looking for an authentic Dim Sum experience Royal Seafood in Chinatown NyC will give you just that. There is nothing fancy about the ambiance, lady's pushing carts of selections by your table for you to pick... it's typical and traditional. We were pleased with the quality of the food.

During our trip to NYC we came here on 2 separate occasions once for dinner than later for dim sum. Food was pretty good, much better than at home.

We came at 11:30am on a weekday holiday (New Year's Day), and it was super crowded, as expected. We only had two people, so we shared a table with four others. The dim sum was standard -- not good, not bad. I don't eat dim sum that often, so I'm not that picky about it. Everything was fresh and not too salty. The cart ladies were friendly, but because it was so crowded and loud, communicating with them and getting what we wanted wasn't the most pleasant. I feel like this is typical for most crowded and popular dim sum places though. I enjoyed most of the food. The only one I didn't enjoy that I normally don't mind is the pork cha siu baked buns. The cha siu filling tasted odd and bitter. The buns were fluffy though and didn't have too much flavor. Although they look nice, the pork buns just tasted odd. I really liked their pineapple buns filled with taro paste though. The Chinese Broccoli was also great. Probably wouldn't come here again for dim sum because the ambiance is not for me. It's hard to have an enjoyable meal in such a loud and hectic environment.

    Sticky rice! Soo good.

We wandered over here after visiting the Empire State Building; it was only a five minute walk away! We went after watching the sunset, so around 8-ish, and were pleasantly surprised we didn't have to wait for a table. The atmosphere was bright and lively, but not too much to bring our seven-year-old. We ordered: PORK DUMPLINGS-- best thing we ordered. My. Goodness. The broth was perfectly seasoned and silky. Was always a little sad after the last bit of soup from each dumpling was slurped. ;) Meat inside was tender and flavorful and the wrapper wasn't too thin or thick. Just the right thickness to keep the soup inside until you were ready, but not so thick that it was too chewy or distracting from the contents. Also ordered, the SPICY BEEF DUMPLINGS as recommended by our server. They were yummy. Tasty soup and beef had a deeper flavor. Not too spicy. Next time, we will probably just order extra pork dumplings or try something new. We ordered the SCALLION PANCAKES. I prefer my scallion pancakes thinner. These were a lot like the thickness of a dense pita. Still enjoyed them-- still a nice texture that was both soft and crispy, perfectly greasy, and flavorful. CRISPY CHILI CHICKEN (or something like that) was good but nothing special. Had some heat but not too spicy. CUCUMBER SALAD-- was a nice cold addition to the meal. Loved the sesame oil, just wish there was more, as well as more flavor. We ended up pouring a little soy sauce on top and that helped. I thought it was nice to chase a bite of crispy chili chicken with a bite of cucumber. WHITE RICE-- we ordered three orders of rice that was perfectly prepared, but way too much for three adults. Not complaining, but each bowl would have probably been enough for two adults. Can't wait to return!

Our nits: one of the items we ordered got lost somehow, though they never admitted it; we had to keep asking for the item, and it finally came after we had finished all of our other items. There was no apology or offer to give us a discount for their misstep. Also, when we showed up for dinner there was a 30 minute wait and one had to stand in the hallway during that wait. Next time we'll swing by earlier to get the check-in code to find out how long the wait is in advance. The good news is that our first three items came out pretty quickly after ordering; and the place is very fast with the turnover.

Dish highlights include the shrimp and chive dumplings, beef chow fun, and my personal favorite, the stuffed eggplant. Other items were a little bland, like the turnip cakes and har gow, and the pan fried shrimp noodles were awkwardly plated and made them difficult to eat. I also wish they had rice noodle rolls, which I didnt see on the menu. Really what pushed it to 5 stars to me was the service. We came as a huge group of 20, with a baby and stroller in tow, and they handled everything without so much as a grimace, just an outpouring of helpfulness. They sat half our group at a round table and the other half at a rectangular long table and also helped us navigate dietary restrictions, asking specifically who in the group had those restrictions. The menu is labeled too, so you know which items are vegetarian or gluten free. At one point our helpful server noticed we hadn't really touched that awkwardly plated noodle dish and offered to replace it with another. We didn't take him up on that as I'd find that wasteful but I thought that was so attentive and earned them a generous tip. The space is nice looking, and the food came out very quickly. We also didn't break the bank, even with plenty of drink orders. Dao's is an easy recommendation, especially when you factor in how seamlessly they handled our chaos.

I won't point out any particular dish as being awful or exceptional, because that's the problem I have with this place overall. Nothing stands out in any sort of way. Everything here kind of just tastes the same, which bothers me because the flavor profile of these dishes should all be tasting vastly different. Most of the dishes carry this overwhelmingly strong oil taste, especially in their fried meats, that kind of just makes them all taste kind of mediocre. The typical Dim Sum dishes, while serviceable, just kind of feels rushed flavor wise with little care put into them, leading them to taste kind of like nothing. The only dish that I would actively order is their noodle, which carries a more distinct light yet rich flavor that complements their noodles, but even then I feel as though the meat and egg feel like afterthoughts in the dish that don't really add to it in any way. The last problem I have with this place is their sauce station, which though kind of them to offer quite a few sauces to add to your dim sum, is just a really messy and unsanitary area which threw off my meal. I wanted to like this place, given that I love eating dim sum, but this wasn't it for me.
