The beef dry noodles had 4 soft, bland beef medallions in a broth that tasted like it came from a powder in the Asian food aisle at the supermarket. The noodles were slippery and did not have the giving mouthfeel fresh udon should have. I would have been satisfied with the meal because of the price. This is an age where one can spent $13 on a single meal at Subway. However, the service was worse than the typical Subway stop. My dining buddy asked for a vegan option and the clerk refused to prepare anything without an egg or meat. They don't have soy milk for tea, either. The meal is affordable and you help yourself to water at the corner. My go to is the number 2 which is beef noodle soup and on the table, I help myself to the dry chili flakes and pepper. The dessert here is also pretty good which is the Taiwanese shaved ice ( not to be confuse with the Mexican shaved ice). King's has the best noodle soup in the metro area, and I've eaten at dozens of noodle joints from Monkey King to Imperial Noodle, and dozens in between. While they may not pull their own noodles in house, they are lovingly prepped and portioned on the stainless steel table behind the register. When served, they are a perfect combination of firmness, chew, and elasticity, impossible to imagine how delightful a noodle in broth with some chunks of meat can be until you've experienced it here. Our first visit service here was very accommodating, gracious, and prompt (unlike many prior reviews reporting service issues), much more delightful and lovely than I've ever experienced right across the street at First Chinese BBQ, where I've dined dozens of times over the years and been conditioned for very low service expectations. The hand-pulled noodles were mixed with a garlic oily sauce that was seasoned to perfection and completed with a side of pickly garnishes. This dish also comes with a small bowl of the beef broth so you pretty much get the best of both worlds! In addition to the entree, my cousins and I ordered the large half mango/strawberry shaved ice and it was PERFECT! The fruits were so fresh. On top of the shaved ice, there was a large scoop of vanilla ice cream to blend all of the sweet flavors together. I havent had a shaved ice dessert that resembles this since I was in California. Overall: This is my go to joint for a nice authentic Taiwanese beef noodle soup and I STRONGLY recommend coming here if you havent already been. I thought that I would hit this up to try out this Taiwanese beef noodle soup that people have been telling me about. I read some of the reviews that state that the broth at time tasted like straight soy sauce. I never had that experience with it. In was in m opinion the opposite. I thought it was actually lacking in flavor if anything. However, the chunks of beef in the noodle soup and the noodle itself was excellent. Overall, it was an okay experience. Eating here took me back to Taiwan. I got the signature dish, beef noodle soup. The noodles were perfectly chewy and fresh tasting, plenty of fresh baby bok choy, carrots, and green onions. They give you a ton of meat and it's all very tender, though some pieces are a bit fatty, it's so tasty. the broth is flavorful, but not overly salty or greasy. I'm a big fan of this place! My go to order is: Shrimp Wonton and Beef Stew Noodle Soup! Drink of choice: Wintermelon tea with grass jelly! They accept cash in person or card over the phone. The noodles are soft, yet have a chewy texture. The freshly shaved cucumbers are a nice, cool addition. Get the zha jiang mian. You won't regret it! I wavered between 2 and 3 stars for this place but ultimately settled on 3 because, hey, it's about $6 for a bowl of soup that could easily feed four people. Still, the quality of the beef noodle soup here doesn't rival anything you could find in California. The noodles are good, and the broth is decent, but the meat is too chunky and a bit overcooked. Gotta love the ambiance. Walk up to the counter to order, then sit down and enjoy bizarre Asian television programming as you wait for your food. If you want water, serve it yourself from the jug in the corner. Silverware is kept in large containers at the counter. Yep, this is a pretty authentic hole-in-the-wall Chinese noodle place...at least as far as the ambiance goes! They have boba on the menu, but I didn't try it. There are warnings about not moving tables and chairs around like its a huge hassle for either the customer or one employee to put a table back (12" away) when finished. Cash only, but the prices are good: $7-8 per generous bowl. They also have rice dishes and other entrees but their noodles are so good it's hard for me to stop ordering them. I particularly like the pickled/preserved vegetable pork noodle soup (za cai rou so mien) and the dry beef noodle (#1 on the menu, niu rou gan mien). Most people here get the #1 and they do with good reason. The noodles are springy, veggies are crisp, flavor is deep. These "dry noodles" are dry in that the broth comes on the side and the noodles are bathed in a small amount of savory soup/sauce, topped with cilantro, and also maybe something illegal because I don't know how they get them so tasty. I returned a few weeks later with my mother again and ordered the same two bowls of beef noodle soup. This time it was a HUGE disappointment. The cut of beef they used was completely different than last time. My mother said the price of that cut went up and that's probably why they had to use a cheaper cut. This was my first time eating at this restaurant, I've had something similar at Monkey King Noodle Co in Deep Ellum. To be honest, I actually liked the one from Monkey King Noodle more because I felt like the soup was there was tastier. However, King's noodle has more selections and they have a lot of good desserts. The restaurant ambiance is your typical chinese/taiwanese restaurant, everyone speaks mostly in chinese and not much service, but that's what expected though. I must admit, I am not too familiar with the possessions of the ruling monarchy. Oh, sure, I've heard of the King's horses and the King's men, and how their efforts to restore Humpty Dumpty to his former glory were all in vain. And "The King's Speech" made me love Helena Bonham Carter even more because she made public speaking captivating. But I had never heard of the King's Noodle until yesterday, and after dining here for a quick lunch, I must say I am a fan of the place, the dish and the fact that one of the best lunches I've had in awhile could be enjoyed for under $10. My friend and I were taking care of some business in Richardson and McKinney, while also weathering the snarling, seemingly oppressive traffic of highway 75 one Saturday afternoon. He suggested we stop off and grab a bite to eat at King's Noodle, a restaurant I had never heard of but was eagerly receptive to since it got us out of Dallas traffic for about 45 minutes. We made our way back to the strip mall King's Noodle sits in and prepared ourselves for the sub-freezing walk we would endure from the parking lot to the storefront. King's Noodle is actually kind of tricky to get to your first time. You'll see it near the end of the shopping center it rests in, but you either have to park in the lot across the street from it, or go around the block and park there. The walkway leading up to it means you won't miss it, but it's not the most intuitive approach your first time here. If you drive past it, that's a good sign, and I mean that in a positive way: it just means you're getting closer to the parking lot for the place. When we walked in, about half the tables were taken up by families, friends, couples on dates, and soon to be guys like us who have no idea what in the world we're doing. The single dining room is packed with chairs and tables, but not in such a way that you'll feel like you're crowded or eating atop the table next to you in an invasion of privacy. We made our way to the back where the kitchen and ordering counter were and asked for two sodas and two bowls of beef noodle soup. The menu looks pretty diverse, with seafood options, dumplings and all sorts of other dishes that are making me contemplate driving back out here for another meal. The girl working the register was quick and polite, and when she told us our total bill was $19 and change, I think we were both dumbstruck. Lunch for less than $10 a person in a sit-down environment where the food is made in the kitchen for all the patrons to see? There had to be a mistake, right? Wrong; I don't think any mistakes were made here, a feat even more incredible when you realize no one gives you a number or a placard for your table. The food runners just know which table has what, demonstrating an uncanny psychic ability, or just the fact that the staff here pays better attention to operations than many other restaurants. In minutes, side plates of pickled vegetables arrived, followed very shortly by the best beef noodle concoction I have had. The broth was, honestly, almost floral, and the noodles were delicious. There are spices on the table to add to you meal, and while my friend opted for two sweet chili spoonfuls and two spicy chili spoonfuls, I went for two sweet and six spicy. Then I realized the chili kind of collects at the bottom of the bowl. But it worked out just fine and I regained feeling in my tongue. King's Noodle is a sleeper destination in an area not lacking for delicious food. The food is amazing, the staff is wonderful and the price point is wallet-friendly. I may not have been familiar with this royal dish 24 hours ago, but I could definitely see myself returning to this monarchy again with no hesitation. read more

I came here only because my friends insisted we try it. Im not bothered by the cash only (I had cash on me at the time so it worked out!) Im not bothered by being the only white guy in there. What I am bothered with is food that doesnt impress me. I ordered the combination lomein. They did a decent job, but its nothing to rave about. The noodles were way too soggy for my taste. The vegetables didnt have much flavor. certain cuts of pork and shrimp were a little odd tasting (but have no fear, I didnt get sick.) I will say this though: they serve good dumplings. No, those are not just Eminem lyrics, these words describe how I felt about Kings Noodles a few weeks ago. I still stand by with what I said in my previous review regarding the food (amazing noodles, tangy beef, and really delish food overall. Very authentic and highly recommended). However, my most recent visit left a very sour taste in my mouth (not literally) when... 1) I found out that they raised the price on everything by 1-2 dollars. So what used to be ~$7 worth of food is now close to $9-$10. Again, food is still good and worth, but still doesn't feel good to have something you cherish made more expensive. 2) It took a ridiculously long time for our food to come out. I appreciate them making noodles and everything from scratch, but I didn't recall it taking more than 15 min-20min for a bowl of noodles to arrive?? 3) They forgot one of our orders... sure it was because the receipt printer ran out of paper so they 'lost' the order, but I literally had to talk to them 2 times cuz it was taking so long. After half an hour and my friend still didnt get her food, I had to go probe and only then found out that they never made it. Smh. Sure they apologized, but I think she should have gotten her food for free at that point. :/ In all, still like the restaurant a lot. Nothing fancy. Hearty marbled Beef, sweet star anisey broth and baby bokchoy. I was very hungry but I did'nt wanna vary my tastes so I had the beef and veggie over rice. Which is exactly the soup but less broth, thicker sauce but same ingredients. Great meal for under $10. Which was good because I did not have a lot of cash on me. This place is CASH ONLY! Comfort food! That's the best way to describe the food at King Noodle. This is my second visit. The first time was the day after my Mom passed away a year ago. It was cold and I was blue and they were open. The owners were very nice and the place had the warmth of home. I decided to hokd off my review until I was in a better emotional spot and try it again. It's the same as my prior visit. I had my Dad with me this time and he picked a dish similar to his time in Japan. We didn't talk much cuz we were too busy eatimg the delicious food in front of us! They did run out of tapioca when making my drink (6:30 PM on a Saturday night, so that was unexpected), but nicely came and asked me if I wanted grass jelly added on instead. I've been coming to this place for over 13 years. The service has always been mediocre at best but the noodles always had this nostalgic feel, so I kept on coming. Today was the day that ruined everything for me! I brought my friend over to eat here and the cashier wasn't paying attention to her order and found out too late she had messed up the ONE item that my friend had ordered. As that was happening she was taking a phone order, after a while she then asked my friend to pay an additional $0.30 lmao. Due to her mistake?? My friend paid with card the first time and they had the audacity to ask her to pay with cash for the measly 30 cents. They never apologized for their mistake. The water cup smelled like soap and the food took a while to be given to us. Their attitude was horrible. When I think of comfort food, I automatically think King's Noodles. This restaurant has a special place in my heart and I have been coming here ever since it first opened and it has been a staple for my mom and I. Came here twice now and I'm not sure what's the hype about. When I first tried this place I thought it was just ok. The second time eating here I again wasn't blown away and I think know why. To me the food just didn't have that much flavor. I had their beef noodle soup both dry and wet and they were just not great. I also tried their seafood noodle soup and again the flavor were just not there. The food took super long to make for just noodles and broth and the portion size didn't impress me at all for the price that they charge.
