I came to King's Street Coffee with one goal in mind - to score some mini prints from the vending machine that Caitshouse had put in the cafe. They have plenty of quarters at the register, as long as you had cash to exchange. I opted to do 5 pulls, since I had a $5 bill with me. I also had a iced matcha with water instead of milk, which was fantastic. I think this might be my go-to order now, as I don't really love how diluted matchas get with milk. A friend and I chilled in the cafe catching up for about an hour before our dinner reservation. The space is really open and airy and there is plenty of seating. Found King Street Coffee just a short walk from my hotel. Picked up a mocha ($6.25), and then added the Purple Sweet Potato Scone ($5.50) which is something I had never seen elsewhere. The mocha was solid. The scone was amazing! Perfect texture which the right "crunch" when you bite into it. I was very sad when it was gone. I should have picked up 2 of them. Went back another morning for more Purple Sweet Potato Scones. Unfortunately they were sold out of it (or maybe they weren't ready at the time we stopped by). We saw some green scones on display that turned out to be Matcha Scones so we picked those up to give them a try. These were also delicious. Despite this, I still preferred the Purple Sweet Potato Scones. On the morning were flying out of NYC, we stopped by again to try our luck with the Purple Sweet Potato Scones. They didn't have them ready and we had to leave to catch our flight so couldn't wait. We picked up a tote bag as a souvenir. There's a bit of seating inside but they fill up. This is apparently a popular spot with the locals. The ambiance is very relaxed, with plants all around to help give it a bit of coziness. You can see the plant on the inside of the glass window facing the street. It provides a bit of "privacy" from passersby, so you don't. feel like you're in a fishbowl. LOL I do not know why the shop is called "King's Street", because it is located on W. 30st Street, and it's the one and only shop they have to my knowledge. I love the small locally owned coffee shop vibe here, and I felt good about coming here to support them over a big chain coffee shop. The people working here are nice, too! I got the matcha latte with oat milk. The matcha was OKAY. It was pretty diluted and I prefer my matcha to be stronger. I don't think I would come back for the matcha; however, they also serve coffee or teas, which might be better. They have a lot of tables but this place tends to be really full every time I pass by. I came in the middle of the day and saw a long line just to order! Regardless, staff members are nice and they seem to be pretty efficient. Coffee is honestly really great! Popped in today for a few coffees and I had a bite, that I purchased from the restaurant as well. My daughter pulled out a bagel we had purchased from a nearby shop and we commenced to enjoying a little time together. Because we had one outside bagel they came over and asked us to leave. I stopped by King's Street Coffee this past Saturday morning for coffee stop #1. I regret not trying any of their pastries, since so many reviews rave about their Asian-inspired baked goods! There was a line when I walked in, but it moved fairly quickly. Drinks also came out pretty fast as well, and I was in and out in under 10 minutes. CAPPUCCINO (8 OZ) - 4.59 The heart shaped latte art was cute and the coffee was quite smooth and balanced. It was a well-made cappuccino, but I thought the espresso flavor was nothing extraordinary. I think it would have been better if I got a pastry to pair with it. King's Street Coffee doesn't roast their own beans, but they source them from Heart Coffee Roasters (Portland, OR) and Sweetleaf Coffee Roasters (local NYC roaster). One perk is that they also sell these beans, which is something to keep in mind for future visits. Afternoon stroll around Penn Station (by our hotel), we veered off course and came upon King's Street Coffee. Never shy away, from afternoon coffee, we walked in to support the small café. The location and NYC still amaze me - the neighborhood, including its shops wedges and blends into MAJOR streets in busy city. The plants and greenery around the main window caught my attention, giving me a reason to sit and watch people for a while. There is a long communal table in the center surrounded by 5 - 7 smaller round table meant for two. Next to the counter, there is a small corner that carries merchandises and sourced batches of coffee. The male barista is super friendly and chatty. We ordered a matcha latte and vanilla latte. This spot was all abuzz on a Friday afternoon. You could tell there were both social and work conversations happening. I love the use of plants. I had intentions of sitting in the cafe and working for a bit, but it was absolutely packed to the brim; no seats open, no seats looked like they were opening anytime soon, so heads up to come early (or maybe late?) if you do want to work here. The inside is pretty though, quite airy and well lit. I got a cortado, and it was overall solid, but a bit sloppy. Too much milk so it started tasting a bit more like a cappuccino. I like coming to King Street just because it is a working café, which is a little bit more unique in this part of town. The last time I came, I ordered a Matcha latte, it wasn't the worst one I had ever per se, but it was definitely water down and for the price was it necessarily worth it. The next time I come, I would probably just grab a latte, but when it comes to the general quality of the coffee here, it's just not great.
