    Haddock fish and chips
    Tanya K.

A delish haddock and chips for 17$. . A bit on the pricy side but we regretted not getting more. It was so fresh and perfectly flaky inside. one of the best I've had in a while. Highly recommend. The fries aren't seasoned so dress them yourself. Only thing missing was a lemon wedge and more tartar sauce. . Would get again . Diner vibe and old decor keep it authentic. You could tell there's a lot of regulars that come back too!

Onion Rings and Fish & Chips.
    Barbara D.

Good fish, not so great chips. Plus, the onion rings disappointed me (too much onion, very thin soggy batter, and no crispiness). It tasted like I was eating raw onions which, personally, I can't do. We visited on a Friday evening around 7:00 PM, and it was reasonably full. We weren't too hungry so we had one order of fish and chips (the halibut) and a side of onion rings. The fish was delicious but nothing out of the ordinary - fried well and very crispy, with a decent amount of fish. It isn't anything I'd come back for immediately, but it was just fine. The place overall is a bit dated, but is basically the perfectly picture of a traditional, charming diner. Service was friendly. Prices were average. There's street parking available right in front of the restaurant. There are definitely better spots for fish and chips in the west end, but if you're in the area, this isn't the worst spot to find yourself in. Overall, just average. Our order, with tax and tip, came to just around $20.00.

Because sometimes you need fish and chips!

My husband and I happened to be in the neighbourhood running errands and popped in for a quick lunch. Truthfully, we were both a tad hungover from a 40th birthday bash the night before, so we craved some greasy food and the small lunch sized menus hit the spot. It's a favourite of locals in the Kingsway, you can tell by the clientele...mostly elderly people. They tried to keep the English theme with teapot decor. Simple and classic. Get the halibut! The staff are super nice and efficient.

I have been coming this this place for many years with my kids at it still makes one of the best plates of fish & chips in the city. Great service and prices!

Lunch special number 1 with coffee and a side of mushy peas. Perfection!

Superb quality and variety. Fast and friendly service. Love the halibut and shrimp combo with fries. Their coleslaw is good.

Food was great and so was the price. The only problem was they don't have pictures on the menu. I would definetly eat there again.

The modern, chic decor sets a wonderful ambiance, and the service was immediate and welcoming. The food was spectacular from start to finish. We started with fresh, warm bread, followed by a flavorful seafood gumbo loaded with meat, and a generous portion of two lightly breaded crab cakes. For our mains, the 10oz ribeye and 8oz tenderloin were seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection--compliments to the chef! They came with a lovely side of baby potatoes and vegetables. We capped off a perfect meal with a warm pecan tart and ice cream. I highly recommend coming here. We noticed they have a pizza oven and plan to add pizza to the menu soon; we already can't wait for our next visit to try it out! Ps parking wise, the restaurant is just off a residential neighborhood and parking is free. No need to pay for any parking, just remember to read signs.

There are specials that change weekly. The interior is decorated with New Orleans memorabilia, medium lit, cozy (not large), with jazz music in the background. Service was attentive and friendly. They operated for 30 years at their old location. This location soft-opened on 2026-02-12. We came on 2026-02-25 for dinner. There were still some furnishings to complete (there were unforeseen delays). They kept the same menu offerings but it will be expanded within a month. We ordered the following: 1. Citra Terre D'Abruzzo Pinot Grigio - Italy (glass $14.95). 2. Coke. 3. Crab Cakes ($19.95). 4. New Orleans Shrimp Cocktail ($19.95). 5. Jambalaya Aranchini (weekly special). 6. Blackened Lamb Chops (weekly special). 7. New Orleans Fisherman's Plate ($39.95). 8. Pecan Pie warmed with Ice Cream ($14.95). 9. Bananas Foster ($14.95). 10. Beignet ($14.95). Every dish had an excellent presentation. We spent a lot of time taking photos and videos. What did you expect from me?! We loved all the dishes! The portions were large! There are more staff than in the previous location, allowing the service to be excellent. They tend to have many loyal and returning customers. Every table starts with freshly baked bread and butter. The bread was so fresh! The three appetizers tasted good. They each had a little kick due to creole cuisine. I loved the shrimp the most. The Blackened Lamb Chops was perfectly cooked. Each of the four pieces were very tender, accompanied by a delicious sauce. The dish had some very nicely cooked seasonal vegetables: roasted potatoes, a red pepper, string beans, a broccoli, and a carrot. This dish will be put into their regular menu in the near future. The New Orleans Fisherman's Plate is great if you want a little sampling of their seafood: Blackened Fish, Cajun Calamari, and Coconut Beer Shrimp. It also comes with rice and seasonal vegetables. The fish was so good! We brought some home for my mom and she really loved it. The Coconut Beer Shrimp was on top of a Orange Marmalade Sauce, which is really liked. The three desserts looked really good and tasted good. I loved the pecan pie the most. They can split dishes in half in the kitchen and serve them on two dishes for two people to share. The restaurant uses fresh seasonal ingredients and spices to create authentic Creole and Cajun tastes. Everything is made in-house except for bread and butter. In the near future, their bread will be made in-house too. Currently, there is only indoor dining but they are looking into the possibility of sidewalk outdoor dining. Mike Djurdjevic runs the front of the house while his wife, Mira Djurdjevic, operates the kitchen. Their son, Marko, also helps in the front of the house. There is a large pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. They will be introducing creole pizza in the near future. There is a separate large room for events, parties, etc. This room will be ready in the near future. They also do catering. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There is one gender-neutral washroom, which is also wheelchair accessible, and one female washroom. Thrre is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-037

Happy to say it lived up to the hype. The interior is beautiful, chic, warm, and very inviting without feeling pretentious. Service was excellent throughout the night. We did the prix fixe set menu, which included the chicory salad, shrimp cocktail, ham plate, chicken wings, G.P. wedge, black cod, roast chicken, English chips, charred broccolini, and finished with crème caramel and a seasonal English pudding. Everything was really well done, and I especially appreciated how many vegetable-forward dishes were included. It didn't feel like the usual carb-and-protein-heavy set menu. The charred broccolini, black cod, ham plate, and G.P. wedge were definite standouts. All simple dishes on paper, but packed with bold, rich flavours. Portion sizes were also great. I've been to a few nicer client dinners where I still leave a little hungry, but that wasn't the case here at all. They also had several non-alcoholic drink options, which was nice to see and thoughtfully done. Overall, General Public delivered on food, service, and atmosphere. It felt polished but still approachable, and I can easily see why it's getting so much attention. A great spot for a client dinner and somewhere I'd happily return on my own too.
