Local hang out for karaoke and drinks. Casual and unpretentious. Just a great place to hang with friends.

Sharing my experience for Cafe Den Mau, which I didn't know this place even exist. A hidden secret…read more Our plans for private karaoke room at our usual spot was filled so this is the reason we are here at Cafe Den Mau. I've been here twice and my opinion it was fun but very interesting place. Recommended by my older brother who frequents Cafe Den Mau often. Located at the Yee Hop Plaza on North King Street, same building as Hawaii Dim Sum & Seafood, (after our dinner there) we went straight up to the 2nd floor. Note getting to Cafe Den Mau is a little sketchy, scary in the building but once you arrive its not as bad after all. hehe. You will enter a long corridor, the 2nd floor looks abandoned, old, but there are other businesses in this plaza. The size of Cafe Den Mau is small but perfect, there are a few tables, even a stage with disco lights, drums, and piano. Kind of like in Vietnam although I haven't been but this is what I heard from another customer. husband Jimmy and wife team runs the karaoke spot from 9-2 am nightly. ( best to call if you plan to visit, have questions, or would like to reserve a table or private party.) limited drinks, mostly beer and wine are available, free to bring wine with a fee. ( $20.-30) per bottle. We brought 3 bottles during my first visit with my siblings. You can also bring pupus. Selecting songs are easy, all digital. All songs are available, both our visits, seems like we all were happy with selecting our song choices. We all enjoyed ourselves, first time experience. We even went up to the stage to sing, dance and receiving fake colorful flowers with $1.tip. Fyi, If you do receive flowers with tip, that will belong to the owners. It goes back in the bucket for the owners. hehe. We visited the 2nd time with friends ( 2 Fridays in a row) the same impression, getting to the Karaoke spot, seeing the impression on their faces ( sketchy) but they actually had a great time singing, hanging out, observing the other party that was there. We bought 4 bottles of beer this time, didn't BYOB but I brought chips, dips and some desserts to snack on. The Heineken were $6. and Corona were $8. All in all, first time visiting a Vietnamese Karaoke bar and we will def. be back! Parking available in the back of building's private lot, after hours no need to pay the meter or street parking I know you wouldn't want to park on the street due to the homeless situation at Chinatown.

Getting there is weird - ya gotta go in a building, up an elevator, and down a hallway - but it feels totally safe inside. They answered the phone really quick when we called to ask if they were open. Definitely going to come back with my girls

The place is clean, spacious, and the AC is cold…read more There are a handful of karaoke rooms to choose from with a great selection of modern music and old. Strangely I had issues finding Disney songs. Maybe it's a licensing thing or just that room? Plenty of alternative songs and classics. The fried chicken wings were delicious- I've tried a handful of them. Garlic is a little too garlic (girlfriend destroyer). Spicy is good. Spicy shoyu is good. Honey one was super good. Their oden soup was really good. And their tacos were actually not bad- a little odd with some flavors but they were overall good. Fried mandoo slaps. I haven't really been disappointed by the food yet. Hope that stays true. Service was good- the staff make rounds every so often and kept our water and drinks filled. The staff remember me and always greet me warmly. I always feel like I'm attended to. Cons: It can get busy. Service lags when it's busy. The bathrooms are small. The men's bathroom stall is for smaller people. I had to use the toilet once and maneuvering in the stall was challenging to say the least. There was always enough hand towels. I'll be back!

We got: Dubai Chocolate: This just tasted like nestle hot cocoa--I would skip this. Ube: BOMB. DA BEST. Like wow if you mixed ube-taro ice cream with soju you would get this fantastic concoction. I still dream of this. Yogurt soju: A classic that's delicious. Brown sugar: This tasted a little bit like boba, but it can't compare to that ube. I'd come back here just for that ube soju, but I heard their apps were pretty good too--I just didn't get the chance to try.

Folks - You want a piece of history - this is YOUR place to go to!…read more Oldest continuous in Hawaii!! So what who cares you say? Let me drop some history bombs on you folks - There are only 12 survivors left alive from the infamous day of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. 12!!!!! The sole last survivor of the Arizona was interred a few years back. Now THIS BAR - I got a WHOLE HISTORY LESSON!!! Wanna know where your granny's and uncle's hooch was coming from during the Roaring 20's guess wheeeeeere? Cuz this bar still has the trap door that lets you to gueeees where - you you know it a harbor!!!!! The barkeep there gave me a very good intro of the entire history - test there was a brothel upstairs (most bars did to appease the lonely mil folk before going off to war - or even earlier) The floors is original - so is the thick glass for the actual bar. What my barkeep also informed me - was each naval ship had their own designated bar. This particulate one was designated to the USS Arizona. so when you go have yer beverage here - tread carefully, you just might've walking on the very same floor your grandfather, great uncle or great grandfather did . Do NOT disrespect this sacred place! Oh by the bay the day have really cool shirts. They also run an operation to donate to those in need. ask the barkeep for details. When you go here use yer utmost respect - and do not desecrate this place. Consider this sacred ground! for those who passed before us!!! And if you happen to spill a lil bit of beer or whatever yer drinking - that's a term of respect for the ancestors. But please respect the historical significance. Enjoy
