I've had delicious meals at the King Yubu on 8th Street about four or five times, so this was my first time visiting the Madang Mall location. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We waited about 20 minutes, and our food never came out. At one point, the man who appeared to be the owner and the female student employee both went on break at the same time. When they came back to the counter after finishing their meal, I asked how much longer it would take because we only had 15 minutes before our movie started. The owner apologized and said the food had already been prepared in the kitchen, but the student employee had forgotten to bring it out before going on break. He offered us complimentary bottled water as an apology. My husband, who paid for the meal, is someone who always leaves a tip, even for takeout orders. Even though we ordered through the kiosk and picked up the food ourselves, he still left a $5 tip. Since we were running out of time, we had to eat very quickly before our movie. I felt uncomfortable for the entire movie because I had rushed my meal, and maybe it was just my impression, but the food didn't taste as good as the 8th Street location. Another thing that made us uncomfortable was that the owner and two kitchen employees were arguing at the front counter about payroll. From what we overheard, one of the employees said their paycheck was late and they were going to be charged a late fee on their rent. I understand that both employers and employees have their own difficulties, especially with the current economy. However, it wasn't appropriate to have that argument at the front counter while customers were dining in the patio. Based on this experience, if I visit King Yubu again, I'll only be going to the 8th Street location. read more

My hubby surprised me with this place for dinner. I've never heard of Korean style sushi. But this restaurant apparently sells oversized, Korean-style yubu sushi pockets packed with generous toppings. I picked the queen mermaid, very similar to shrimp tempura. I also had a Philly cheese salmon yubu, and he got a grilled bulgogi yubu with their Korean lemonade. They even gave us complimentary miso soup and free gloves to not get our hands messy. Staff is always so friendly, ordering is easy, prices are good and the food is always delicious! They have such a big menu, there is always something for everyone. Cupbops are solid and all under $10. Yubus are $5-7 with delicious fillings like bulgogi, salmon & cream cheese, unagi, bbq pork - they have 21 different types! That's madness in in a tasty fried tofu pocket. Hand Rolls are $8-9. Portions are big and everything is just so tasty! Kingyubu is an excellent option when at Madang Plaza! Hidden in one of the shopping plaza across from the Wiltern, this was a great place for a snack with friends before our concert. The plaza was under construction, but the seating is covered and walled off to give a more cozy ambiance. Also the logo was really cute. This is my favorite restaurant in ktown and possibly in LA for its great value and diverse choices that never disappoint. This mashup with kingfries and kingyubu is amazing. I love the king fries with bulgogi and their sauces are amazing. My favorite yubus are the spicy pork, lemon salmon and torched salmon in that order. The spicy pork is the best yubu I had and it makes me not want to order yubus at any other place since I know it won't be as good. The Korean corndog is also really good, especially because you can eat it with the great variety of sauces they have. I highly recommend their lemon mayo. The spicy mayo and mala sauce are also quite good. The popcorn chicken was surprisingly really good. We got the honey butter powder and it was so delicious, especially when paired with the lemon sauce. It's crispy and tender and really flavorful. The location is also really nice. My friend showed me this place and although the portions look small, they are really filling and hearty. Theres some options I wish they had like a fresh tuna (they only offer spicy tuna)/fresh salmon (without the lemon) option which I feel like would be a hit. The lunch deal is also nice, you get three options and a drink for $18. We tried the fries as well and it was decent! I think overall personally they use too much sauce but you can request for easy or none on that by just letting them know after ordering. I love this place. Everything tastes good and is reasonably priced. I feel like it's my own little slice of Aloha in K-town. The salmon, unagi, and chicken are our favorites. Came in really excited to try this spot but it ended up being pretty mid. The pics and videos make it look like the tofu pockets are packed with fish, but it's really just a thin layer on top and mostly rice underneath. Flavor-wise, everything leaned really sweet. We tried a bunch of items including lemon salmon, spicy salmon, spicy crabmeat, original topokki, bulgogi yubu, bulgogi fries, and salmon avocado hand roll. The hand roll was actually our favorite since it cut through all the heavy, sweet sauces. Even the jalapeño salmon tasted more sweet than spicy. Cool concept overall. I can't believe they just opened up a 2nd location. LFG!!!!! I absolutely LOVE this spot! In some ways, it's nostalgic to have Yubu since my mom used to make them for me as a kid, but KingYubu has completely elevated that experience to a whole new level. Not only is it made with the traditional tofu skin with rice in it, they also add meat, veggies and/or sashimi on top. There are also so many options to choose from, you can never get sick of it. ON TOP OF THAT, they also have tteokbokki, cup bop and more and I have yet to dislike any of their offerings. They're also using Toast, which makes the ordering process super easy, and I also order ahead to pick up if I know they'll be busy during lunch or dinner. Food quality is just as good as the og spot, the fish tastes clean and fresh. Was in the mood for salmon and they have plenty of options. I had the lemon salmon yubu, the spicy salmon yubu, and the torched salmon yubu. All 3 were delicious but my fav was the torched salmon which had a nice smoky flavor. Three yubus were enough for a satisfying meal. It's easy to order on the kiosk and they have gloves so you don't get messy eating too! It was nice and quiet on a Thursday around 1PM, very peaceful.
