Volcano, Green Bay, and Chicago Crazy
    Leang E.

I was really surprised to place an order in here that it would take 40 minutes, which is pretty incredible for a sushi place. I don't think I've ever had to wait that long. They have a large menu which made it very difficult to decide what to order. I ended up going with the Volcano, Green Bay, and the Chicago crazy Maki. When I arrived to pick up, there was quite a line and it looked like most of the tables were already full. I can see why the place is really busy because the food is excellent. I think I overlooked the Chicago crazy and missed that there wasn't any sauce in the ingredients so that was the most plain one which is fine for people that prefer sushi without any type of sauces. I am not that type of person so I definitely like the other two a lot. It's always great to know of a good sushi spot to go to in the neighborhood and I would definitely come back here.

Wow-living on the East Coast, on the ocean, I did not expect to find the best sushi place in Carol Stream, Illinois--so far from the ocean. Loved the jazz music and comfy private booths. Our waitress was attentive and refilled my water glass frequently after a long, dehydrating flight. I ordered the BEST Calamari platter and am so glad I did. I've never experienced calamari cooked so tenderly like this before. It was amazing! Also, I was delighted to learn that they don't use dairy in any of their cooking. On the East Coast, for some reason a lot of the ginger salad dressings have dairy in them... Not here. I've never had anything like the seasoning with the charred vegetables before. I think it was the contrast of the vegetables with all the other sauces and flavors I was enjoying. They really drove home how adventurous of a tasting platter it was... The sweetness of the tempura dipping sauce, the bite of the wasabi, the umami of the miso soup, the earthiness of the veggies and the contrasts in crunch of the tempura with melt-in-your-mouth sushi over rice. Wow!! The salmon in particular had that luscious mouth feel. If I lived here and came regularly I might order 4 orders of sake sashimi based on the piece I enjoyed last night.

Smokey Bear Roll Crunchy Roll Original Dragon Roll

I'm new to the Wheaton area, but I found this highly rated sushi restaurant in nearby Carol stream. It's tucked away in a small strip mall and has a cozy, intimate vibe with plenty of booths. While the service wasn't particularly attentive, the rooms more than made up for it. A nice surprise: they offer a complimentary house salad and miso soup with your meal. The server mentioned that everyone receives them, which is a wonderful touch and definitely appreciated. * The original dragon roll- is your classic go to solid. * The crunchy roll was excellent made with spicy scallop, cucumber, and avocado, topped with spicy mayo and crunch. * The smoky bear roll was my personal favorite. It packed with smoky flavor. A must have if you enjoy smoky salmon.

Not really sure how I haven't done a review. This is one of my go to spots in the suburbs for sushi and udon. The service is always very attentive no matter how busy it gets. I got my go to order: the baby King Kong and the tempura udon lunch special. It comes with miso soup, the udon, and the tempura. The udon is flavorful and the King Kong is tasty. I feel like the prices are reasonable. It's been remodeled within the last couple years and it's much brighter. It's always clean. No matter what, I don't think you can make a bad choice.

Sushi was terrific and well made. The bento box is a great value with lot to try. The sashimi are fresh. Can't complain about any of the food. Service was prompt and friendly. Great find in a little strip mall that may not look like much from the outside but the inside is cozy and comfortable.

Gross.. the sushi was not good. We ordered California rolls and one speciality roll. Took over 25 min to get the California rolls. The specialty roll was inedible. I left the whole specialty roll on the plate and told them I couldn't eat it and the reason and they still charged me full price. This was our first time here and very much our last! Would not recommend.

Stopped by this little gem in Carol Stream for lunch and it was such a pleasant surprise! Cute little place, staff was so friendly and sushi was fresh! We got the sashimi lunch special and it came with miso soup, a little house salad, a California roll, 4 pieces of chef selection sushi and about 6 pieces of sashimi and a small bowl of rice. It was perfect and hit the spot. Sashimi was on the thin side but for $14 lunch special and you get all this food, not a bad deal at all.

Would you like fish with that rice?

Fillers - Feedback for the Restaurant I'll get right to the point. I ordered 4 simple sushi rolls (Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, Spicy Scallop, and a Philadelphia roll). These types of simple rolls usually only have a couple ingredients: the fish being one of them then the rice, maybe a seaweed wrap, cucumber, and the spicy sauce. Even with the other ingredients, you usually get enough of the fish that you taste it. I always order these first because they are so simple if they don't do these right then nothing else will be done correctly. There was almost no fish at all. It was filled with so much rice and cucumber and the fish was barely there. I've included many pictures to show this. I know that times are tough and prices have gone up, and I do my best to support local / small businesses, but don't sacrifice the quality. I pay around the same amount at other places for the same rolls and get much more fish. This looks like they are cutting corners to save money. Even the miso soup was really watered down. Honestly, I would rather pay an extra dollar per roll for them to be made normally, with the right amount of fish. Don't try to save money at your customers expense. This put a bad taste in my mouth and now I'll probably never return.

Enjoyable neighborhood sushi place with a terrific staff and plenty of great choices. I had a bento and a roll and left very pleased

This is a good quality sushi place. I got a few maki rolls and a spicy salmon roll. It's like any other sushi place. Good service and is a nice clean place to eat

The crab Rangoon would have been better as a dine in option as it cooled a bit too much once it got home. Good flavor and loved the spicy dipping sauce (which is often watered down at other places). VERY generous portions of sushi. Tuna, salmon, and yellowtail all delicious. 3 rolls: Pink Lady, Crunchy Roll, and Sweetheart Roll. The first and last had their own special sauces to add, which we each delicious. The crunchy roll was the least interesting, though still tasty. Will need to dine in next time to give the crab Rangoon a fair chance. Otherwise, I recommend a good takeout experience.

Sushi Ukai had me reminiscing about my apartment in Japan the second I walked in. Something about…read morethe smell of the food and the whole vibe just took me right back. I went with the bento box B with the teriyaki chicken, and I can't really pick a clear standout. The teriyaki chicken was cooked perfectly and just hit right, but the fried vegetables were just as impressive. Light, crispy, not greasy at all. And yes, I said vegetables... I know, right. They kind of balance each other out, and honestly both were equally good for different reasons. I also grabbed a side of crab rangoon and yeah... those were crazy good. Crispy outside, creamy inside, just straight addictive. Only complaint is you get three. That's it. I could've put down 30 without even thinking about it. What I really liked is this place doesn't try too hard. The food is clean, fresh, and consistent. You can tell they care about what they're putting out. It's not some flashy, overhyped sushi spot, it's just solid across the board. The space is smaller and more on the cozy side, which honestly works in its favor. Easy to relax, not loud or chaotic. Service was friendly and on point without hovering. Overall, this is exactly the kind of neighborhood spot you want. Good food, good people, and a vibe that keeps you coming back.
