Definitely an A-OK experience. We arrived about an hour before close on a weeknight, figuring we had plenty of time to eat before causing any problems. There were a few other couples there, but it was by no means crowded, so we were seated right away. Our waitress was very sweet, potentially a little too shy. We split a couple of rolls and a couple bottles of hot sake between us. As others have mentioned, the rolls are very wide- most slices took two bites for me to be able to handle. I forget which rolls we ordered, but both were very good and we were pretty well stuffed after splitting the two of them. The order came with a gratis bowl of miso and salad, which was a nice touch (and something I typically have only seen at the AYCE places, where they would prefer to fill you up sooner than later). The only major downfall about eating here was that they were obviously ready to close up and head out the moment we got done. A lady who appeared to be a manager or owner kept walking around to see if we were done and they started breaking down tables, cleaning, and otherwise getting ready to go home shortly after we got our food. A few of the staff were sitting in the booth by the front door, obviously waiting for the last couple of patrons to finish so they too could get out the door. For the suburbs, its a great sushi place. Not much options on the menu, but then again, its in a place that you wouldn't even consider their food to be edible, let alone good. The price is reasonable and when I went to lunch, the miso soup was included. The soup was tasty and my rolls were good. Nothing extraordinary or modern rolls, but simple and conservative is good enough with the dearth of good dining options in the area. The strip mall gives it a bad appearance, but the inside is cozy and the staff is friendly. If you are in the area and need some good unique food, come here. Affordable quality. Tiny place. Great food. We had the shrimp tempura maki and Bi bim bob. Both were delicious. Everything comes with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. Great and fresh. We went here based on reviews, and it was great. If I went on looks alone I would have never tried this place. When we got there we were like WTF, and made an immediate plan B to go to another nearby restaurant if we went in and it was gross. The outside does not do the inside justice though. I'm more of a sashimi kinda girl, but DAMN that thing is tasty. I wish they had a bigger sake selection, but what they have is good, the man was happy with it. If you decide to go, don't get thrown off by how it looks outside. If I hadn't read about it on yelp I would have never gone there in a million years, but it absolutely has the tastiest sushi in the area, and bigger sashimi pieces than TL's. Kinta is a nice quaint place located in a quiet strip mall in Carol Stream. They expanded into the building next door and are now a decent size. They have a good selection of sushi and all appetizers were priced well. The only things that were not good were the music playing in the background (sounded like soundtracks from dirty dancing and some other odd stuff) and the temperature where I was sitting...it was freezing cold. Rolls came out nicely prepared with very good sized portions of fish. The include soup and salad with the meal which is a nice touch. Server was attentive and helpful. This was my first time here. My coworker and I wanted to try something different for lunch so I ventured out a little further from work to this little gem of a place! The service was very quick but sometimes forgetful but understood since they seemed very busy. The edamame was steaming and delicious almost more then I could eat.. True story: before this place, I wouldn't eat sushi. I'm a pretty picky eater over all and the thought of raw fish just did not do it for me. I was craving miso soup, though, and this place was really highly reviewed on Yelp and I figured I could get chicken teriyaki if I wanted a more substantial meal. But when we got there, my more adventurous friend convinced me to get one of the dinner specials that came with California rolls and a couple of pieces of nigiri and to just suck it up and try it. Oh boy was that a mistake. Since that day I have been to Kinta almost every week. I'm completely addicted. Every waiter there knows me and a few even know my regular order. (California sunset, California roll, and the vegetable tempura appetizer) But I've seriously gotten almost every roll on offer and all of them are delicious. For my sushi fix I usually hit up Minami in Streamwood or Sushi Station in Elgin but the other day I figured I try something new, I'm glad i did. Kinta has a great selection of rolls as well as the traditional Nigiri at a decent price. We ordered a roll and the chef's choice Nigiri, both came with Miso soup and a good size salad. I tryed Japanese soda, had a bit of trouble opening it though :). Protip: They give you a plastic plunger which you press into the top of the bottle which drives a marble down into it. Went there for my anniversary with my hubby after reading reviews on yelp. Pros: 1. The decor was clean. 2. Food was pretty good. Cons: 1. the tables are too small for the booth, I was sitting at the edge of the booth the entire time. Ordered 2 appetizers and the table was already full. 2. Waitress was either shorthanded or they were overwhelmed. Everything was fine till the bill. My husband asked for the bill and took out his card to wait for the bill. The waitress took the card immediately to charge the card without giving us a bill. When she came back, she gave him the receipt to sign but no itemized bill. Everyone was raving about their Miami and King Kong but they tasted the same! In fact even the fillings were similar! Deep fried. Love the service! Our server was very sweet and helpful when we asked questions about the dinner specials. I ordered the nigiri sushi combo but my partner ordered the sushi and sashimi combo which was only $3 more! The fish was very very soft and the perfect temperature. I'm a fan of the sushi rice because it held its shape perfectly and tasted wonderful. Its a great deal to get a bit of variety because you end up paying a little less per sushi than if you were to order them separately. We also ordered the chicken roll and it was interesting... Located in a strip mall near a 7-11 it is nonetheless the freshest, cheapest sushi in the area. Lately, I have been ordering the Sashimi Box at lunch and the value is unbelievable: miso soup, salad (with excellent dressing), 6 maki rolls, 4 nigiri and approximately 10 pieces of sashimi for $11. I've also ordered the Teriaki Chicken Box which comes with the soup, salad, tempura selection and 6 maki rolls. My friend always orders the tempura udon which is also good. I have eaten there for dinner and although there aren't any box specials, the entree prices are also reasonable. So I never went back....until 2 years ago. I've heard ownership has changed and I don't know if that's true or not but it is way better than it used to be for sure! I remember the place being small, and it still is, but the layout or the shape of the space is so weird. I don't really like going in there to eat but I love their food! Its like a hidden gem. Down side - when it does get busy unfortunatly they are not fully staffed bur i assure you it is worth the wait. I don't know anywhere else you can get 3 full sushi rolls for less than $10 for lunch, even the grocery store is more and not even close in quality. Tips for ordering lunch takeout: This place is always hopping,order early. Any time after 12 is going to be at least 30 minutes to make your food.
