I could eat here gleefully on a weekly basis if it weren't for the price point. (Which isn't an overshot by any means, it's an absolutely "worth-it" experience.) The sushi bar has the perfect lighting and atmosphere. I am by no means an expert on the way their reservations are handled- I know I reserved ours on Resy around a week in advance and they didn't have any openings for the one-on-one 18 course Omakase option. We had the MINI Omakase and four oysters and it was the perfect amount of food, I'm not sure how I'll fit more when I go back for the full course. I would simply bore you if I went on and on about each detail of this dinner. Go experience it for yourself, it is TRULY a production. Our chef was wonderful and informative, our waiter was about as helpful as they come- extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond for us during our first visit. Would you ever believe me if I told you that the best old fashioned I've ever had was in a sushi dining room... Just a massively positive first impression all the way around. I live in LA but have friends in Dallas whom I visit fairly often. I happened to be in town when Kinzo first opened, and my friends and I have been making sure to include it in our itinerary ever since! I've tried the omakase here 2-3 times now and every experience was such a joy. Each course is so meticulously and beautifully designed by Chef Leo Kekoa, and the food is so rich with flavor. I personally love yuzu, so the little hint of it in various courses is certainly a treat! An exquisite, intimate ambience great for date nights. The service is top-notch and all the chefs are so knowledgeable and professional yet also very approachable. Did the omakase during their 8:15pm reservation time slot on a Sunday night. It was not crowded at all, but they did say they were very busy beforehand. It was delicious and we enjoyed every single course they provided. For the omakase reservation, you need to pay $185 per person online while booking and that does not include gratuity. Of course your drinks and anything else you order is charged at the end of your meal. I was definitely not expecting to pay $650+ in total, but it was honestly a great experience for our first omakase. Everything was fresh and we loved being able to try new things we wouldn't typically order ourselves. Kinzo is HANDS DOWN my husband's and my favorite sushi spot in DFW. We have been here four times in the last year and every time we visit we walk out with full stomach and a pleasant feeling. We normally do Mini omakase and order bunch of nigiris after that but on our visit this time, we just ordered Toyosu 5 piece chef special sushi selection, oyster shooters, Santenmori, and a bunch of sushis. Everything was GREAT! Our favorite fish is Kinmedai. I love how Kinzo really focuses on fish, rather than making crazy toppings that are overpowering. Looks simple but OUTSTANDING. Our fourth visit was the first time we visited on a Saturday and I think we are going to try to avoid that from now on. The reason I like Kinzo is the interaction that I get to have with the chefs, but Saturday evening was just too busy so we didn't really get to do that, and it took a while for us to get the server get to us. So another unforgettable visit back to Kinzo. This time my daughter and I ordered a la cart while my husband had the Mini Omakase. It was his first time so that allowed him to try all their stars without having to commit. All of the selections were fresh and melted in our mouths. They were so good we ordered more oysters and tuna belly. I can not believe how lucky we are to have this gem in our own backyard. There is limited seating, and It stays packed so make your reservations early. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. The chefs are more than willing to educate you on the specials. Visited Kinzo for a birthday dinner & did the 180$ omakase! Service: the staff was kind & the chefs were informative about each piece of nigiri served, I really enjoyed that and trying out new fishes! Ambiance: it is really dark in there and the walls are a little plain, but it definitely was a calm vibe/atmosphere. Food: I enjoyed all the dishes, I thought I would be super super full at the end, but it wasn't that bad. I honestly wish there was more Uni in the course, or more speciality items. It was primarily an edomae style which i can appreciate, but it was pricy. I personally enjoyed the toro they served here, it was really fresh! The yakitori served at the end was lovely too! Wow wow wow. Amaaaaaazing food and excellent service!! The drinks were wonderful too. We arrived a few minutes late for our reservation but no issues getting seated. I love that the whole restaurant is counter seating. We started with some cocktails (I got the Pear Martini - highly recommend!) and then went with the Mini Omakase. Literally everything in the omakase was so good. When we were done we did need to add a few more things so we added some additional Nigiri and some Chicken and one roll. All of the Nigiri is so perfectly dressed so you don't need to add ANY sauces. The owner is so nice and all the sushi chefs are so knowledgeable (and I mean serious shout out to our server who knew the answer to everything). It is quite pricey but one of the few pricey places that are actually worth it!! We'll be back!! read more

This place has been on my radar since it opened because I heard the chef was Nobu trained and because it's nearby. I have no idea if the chefs are Nobu trained or owner is perhaps (they were all Korean), but the presentation of every dish was fabulous. Anyways, I finally got to go test it out for our anniversary with my husband. It was a weekday so it wasn't full but I had made reservations per recommendation on their website. We didn't do the full on pricey omakase because we weren't sure about the price or the quality. End result, it is pricey so we won't go every month but maybe for special occasions since their sushi (raw fish) were fresh and quality (some flown in direct from Japan) for around the area by far. The ambiance is minimal (counter plus some tables for bigger group) and a bar area. I think if you do omakase the chef will be in front of you. It wasn't small enough to feel as intimate (NYC and Tokyo style small counter) though. It's worth a try if you're looking for quality, lux sushi restaurant for special occasions. read more

The three of us had the quick "mini omakase" option on a Sunday afternoon as we were a tad pressed for time. The space is new ish and really beautiful with a cherry blossom tree center, and the seating around it as well as tables. As for the omakase, tldr: Every bit of fish was honestly an explosion of flavor in my mouth. 3 bowls of three sashimi pieces and 5 piece nigiri as well as a hand roll. I don't remember names too well but it was all very very good. The word I thought of was fresh for sure. We ended with a crème brûlée that was left spotless. I can't say this mini option left me too hungry to be honest, it was surprisingly filling. The service was great, quick and we didn't sit around for 2 hours as I kind of expect for omakase sets these days. I loved that. A must try for sure. The price is perfectly reasonable as far as the type and quality of food served but I would agree this isn't an everyday eats place, but that makes it all the more special. Lovely experience & fresh fish. What we ordered: Seaweed salad, lots of nigiri (tuna, sake, kanapachi, hamachi, abalone, and bluefin otoro), kanpachi shiitake, and a few orders of sashimi, but I can't exactly remember which. Everything was delightful, however, the kanpachi shiitake is a must-try - it's delicious and was my favorite dish. Environment: I wish this place was a bit more spacious. We had a great spot at the bar, but once we left, everyone was pretty much elbow to elbow. The food is incredible. Absolutely best sushi I've ever had in NTX. They import their fish and rice from best sources in Japan, and their soy sauce is made in house. However, the dishes are so good that soy sauce isn't provided in order to not diminish the taste of each dish by the strong flavor of soy sauce. The service was great, we had Anthony as our waiter and he gave great recommendations. The sushi chefs are flipping artists, very knowledgeable and clearly take their craft seriously. Finally got a chance to go try the Omakase at Kinzo. Wow it did not fail my high expectations. Coming from Los Angeles, I had a certain expectations of how good the quality of fish and service/interaction with the sushi chef. I was lucky enough to be able to make a reservation and have the main chef Leo Kekoa as our Omakase Sushi Chef. We had the 18 course menu, which is prepare in advance with very high quality meat. The experience was fantastic and the food. It was good and worth the price. One way to tell how good a nigiri is.... to have really nice warm sushi rice that goes against the cold prepared fish. Another point Chef Leo made is that he prepares each piece of nigiri one at a time so that it touches the least amount of times and let the customer enjoy a more true flavor of each piece he presents. There is no dunking it in soy sauce and wasabi. Eat the way it is given to you since it has already been prepared and marinated the way it should be eaten. I didn't eat all day so that made me hungry, once the main 15 courses were done I had to order a few more that he didn't include in the Omakase. Still very worth it. You want a really good Omakase experience, definitely come to Kinzo, but make sure to make reservations. They open reservations 1 1//2 month ahead; and only 6 people will experience the Omakase in total and reservations are done in pairs. read more

Phenomenal Japanese place in Frisco. Having visited a couple of times...everything is absolutely amazing! Food, drinks and service is top notch. If you're looking for high end sushi then this is a must visit place...significantly better than Nobu, Namo, Shoyo, Keiichi or Kai in the DFW area. Cocktails are fantastic and they can make more than what's on the menu. Good Japanese selection (though it would be nice to see a Yamazaki 18 or Hibiki 17/21)....they do have Yamazaki 12, Hakushu 12 and Harmony. The Old fashioned with Four Roses is superb. The sidecar with Suntory and Four Roses is amazing (citrus forward). The sushi, sashimi, tempura, handrolls and and maki/rolls are simply outstanding. All seared dishes (salmon, wagyu and tuna) are out of the world. The presentation is top notch, the sauces are tasty and the fish is extremely fresh and tasty. Enjoyed the omakase at Kinzo last night. Chef Leo is very friendly and personable, engaging in very genuine conversation throughout the night, and was very descriptive about all of the dishes that were served to us. I wish we had a cheat sheet of all the items we had last night, because I definitely do not remember all of them in the flurry of flavorful fish that was served to us. Firstly - drink options are very good. I appreciated the four mocktail options on the menu. I tried the Painkiller, which was an incredibly smooth pineapple concoction mixed with coconut milk. My partner and I both wanted sparkling water, and we found it curious that the waitress would serve us two small bottles of Pellegrino vs. one large bottle to share, so something for them to consider ongoing, which is a minor thing. The appetizer part of the meal was okay. The meal began with a simple salad. Next, followed my favorite - the Canadian oyster which was so bright from the abundant amount of grapefruit segments served atop. Then followed a trio of small tastes, of which the ceviche was the most tasty and flavorful, with the other two plates quite bland. The chawanmushi was fine, a bit more overdone than I've normally seen, but I did like the nice dollop of tuna served with it. The nigiri section of the meal was a riproaring ride into flavortown. Almost every piece was a punch to the mouth of flavor, from the first incredibly citrusy bite, to the soy-marinated pieces, to our favorite, the ocean trout which was the nigiri of the month, glazed lightly in truffle soy and melted entirely into the mouth. The other piece we really loved was the sea perch, lightly broiled, and was the only piece that was understated in dressed flavor and allowed the fish to shine on its own. Dessert was a trio of things - including the tiniest creme brulee, half of a green tea mochi ice cream, and a tiny Japanese peach which was the best little bite. Overall, this meal was okay - above average, but not the most amazing meal we've had. We were satisfied and full, but not feeling like we have to return anytime soon. As for Dallas-area omakases, we still prefer Tatsu, for a similar price point, but with a far more polished delivery of dishes as well as service. The omakase at Kinzo feels incredibly more youthful, experimental and imbalanced, and hopefully they find a firmer footing soon. read more

Excited to have another sushi omakase restaurant in the DFW area! Finally got to try this place after following all the hype over instagram, and so glad I did. We had an omakase reservation, an intimate 6-seat experience with 2 seatings per night. We had the later seating - I generally try to book the later seatings for omakase so that it feels relaxed. The sushi experience led by Chef Leo was excellent throughout. As someone who has visited many omakase restaurants around Dallas and the U.S., I'm a little nit-picky... So I'll start with a few minor criticisms: I thought that the slices of fish on the nigiri were a little on the thinner side than I am used to. But perhaps this is Chef Leo's personal preference. On the first nigiri, madai, I felt that there was a little too much salt sprinkled on top. As I've mentioned in other reviews, however, I have a salt-sensitive palate, so this may have just been me. I also felt that sometimes, the service was a little lacking - we found ourselves filling our sake glasses during our meal. (Again, apologies - I realize I am nit-picking and probably sound like a snob!) Now, onto the good stuff. Upon looking through the beverage menu, we were pleasantly surprised at the value of some of the sake bottles. We went straight for our favorite sake - the Chiebijin junmai daiginjo. If I recall correctly, Kinzo sells this bottle for ~$170, which is very reasonable. We also got a bottle of the Uka sparkling sake halfway through our meal, as we know we enjoy that too :) Regardless of the thickness of the fish, the quality was definitely top-notch! Very fresh, vibrant colors, no complaints with every bite. My favorites: kinmedai, shima aji, nodoguro, and of course, otoro topped with caviar! I was glad that Chef Leo hit pretty much all my classic faves with his menu! I also really enjoyed what he called the "Hokkaido family" temaki - scallop topped with plenty of uni! Oh my goodness, this handroll melted in my mouth!!! I liked the variety of kitchen courses mixed in with the nigiri, including chawanmushi with kasugodai, ankimo, shiitake, and ikura, and later coming through with black cod teriyaki! The dessert was a trio of creme brulee, matcha mochi ice cream, and wakamomo. A lovely finisher, but here, gonna be a snob again as I'm very particular about creme brulee, haha... I liked the caramelization in the mini brulee - thin yet crispy - but the custard part was a little too thick. I still enjoyed every bite because the flavor was excellent, not too sweet! And I will never complain about some matcha ice cream! The tamago as the last course was very fluffy with perfect amount of subtle sweetness - well done, chef! For our omakase, I counted 16 courses, with a few of them being a mini-trio like the sashimi and dessert courses. There were 8 nigiri and 1 handroll as part of our menu, which is less than other omakases I've been to, but I certainly felt full and happily satisfied by the end of our meal. There was no a la carte option to add on or repeat a nigiri at the end.. but maybe that will be an option in the future? For ~$200 a person and lasting about 2 hours, Kinzo is worth every minute, every bite, every penny. I do appreciate that they started on time, and Chef Leo kept a relaxed pace. Could not give more praise to Chef Leo for the perfect mix of thinking outside the box, innovating with flavors, yet respecting the simplicity and beauty of the fish and tradition of sushi-making. This is what we ordered: Hamachi chili - silky, citrusy, barely had to chew; Toro Yuzu Miso - if you've never had Toro, this is the place, so good!; Crispy rice w tuna - the tuna melted into the rice, YUM!; Hirami garlic truffle - silky flounder w crunchy garlic and hint of truffle Wow!; Natsu - this may have been my favorite: silky tuna with a hint (thread) of red pepper and guacamole, I don't understand how so much flavor exists in one roll. We made reservations for the a la carte menu. The quality and flavors of the sushi were excellent, but it was very pricey. The food did come out fast. We came early and would not be seated until our reservation time even though seats were open. I would like to see a better wine program. And we may go back to try the omakase experience. But I doubt I would go to eat a la carte again. read more

Kinzo was an excellent choice to dine for any special occasion. The establishment has very relaxing and welcoming ambience. The seats are bar style, surrounding the sushi chefs. You can watch them in their masteries, chat with them or just enjoy yourself or your own company. The food was top notch. We got the mini omakase and some a la carte items. If you want a full omakase experience you will need to let them know in your reservation ahead of time. I would recommend anything there that involves raw seafood. The fish is so premium that you do not need extra soy sauce or wasabi to eat them. The pure taste of real authentic sushi is enough to delight. My only gripe was the yakitori, the chicken was good but the beef was really tough. All in all it was a very good experience. read more

The waitress was not far behind to take our drink orders. As Chef Leo was making his last preparations, he was friendly and welcoming when he engaged with us. Once the omakase began, it was nothing short of amazing. The sushi was fresh, vibrant, and each piece that Chef Leo delivered hit its own mark. Absolutely amazing! I'm from Los Angeles and good and fresh sushi is easy to come by, but I was having a hard time finding a place similar to the restaurants we used to go to. A friend recommended this spot and it was spot on. The fish is incredible and the chef truly knows what he's doing. The down side is, it is unreasonably expensive. We spent $600 between two people and still walked out hungry. So, if you want to enjoy good sushi, make sure you have deep pockets. I hope they do not go out of business because of how expensive it is because it would be a shame to lose this spot. Otherwise, service and ambiance is great! read more

You can enjoy an elegant and delightful multi-course Omakase meal without having to venture into Dallas. For their 18-course Omakase, they feature the freshest fish and ingredients available for that week. Chef Leo takes the time to explain each dish beautifully, sharing details about the origin of the ingredients and how they were prepared. Reservations are required, and it's priced at $185 per person. They do offer à la carte items and a mini Omakase option (no need for reservations for this), but their primary focus is on sushi and sashimi. read more

Kinzo has one side of the bar for full omakase with the lead chef, the other side for mini omakase, cocktail bar right next to all this and some general seating in the back. they played interesting acoustic covers of pop music and there was a mix of very celebratory and very casual dress. not what i would expect from a restaurant that asked me to put down $200+ deposit for when making a reservation. that being said, the interior is beautiful and all the chefs and wait staff were welcoming. great for date night or an after work treat-yourself meal. i don't really like sushi, but damn i really enjoyed our omakase here. i can say confidently if you're a sushi purist, however, you might not enjoy this place so much. the sushi pieces were dressed with sauces and accompaniments, however not smothered with gold flakes or caviar or stacked with other extraneous ingredients. for my palate, this was perfect. while i was upset my favorite cuts of fish were not in season, the waiter was sweet to recommend other similar fishes. all the other fishes offered in the omakase were even better than i thought they could've been. he started off with a beautiful oyster dish that was so tender and fresh. most of the fish throughout the courses were familiar to me but none of them tasted the way that i've had them before (for the better!). they had a chawanmushi course, somen noodles, seabass yakitori to die for (legit i mean it when i say 10 out of 10), the most tender (apparently lean) tuna i've ever had followed by the toro cut of the same fish, and a silver skin fish that i usually hate eating but this one was surprisingly palatable. he served multiple snappers and each one tasted different and some how better than the one before it. the matcha mochi ice cream dessert and blackberry creme brulee was incredible as well. all in all, there wasn't a single thing that came out that i wasn't impressed with. the lead chef was so kind to explain all the ingredients and plate our food quickly with a smile. we're not talkative guys but for our fellow diners he was extremely friendly and chatted as if they were long time friends. it's really nice to know i don't have to battle the traffic and drive downtown for good omakase. i'll happily pay the higher price point for omakase here because of how fresh the fish tasted and the unstuffy ambiance of the restaurant. read more
