As you may know, part of the movie was filmed in Ambridge and this bakery is used in one of the scenes. The main characters visit this bakery and have a Swedish eclair, or Semlor. I was hosting our book club this week and thought it would be fun to pick up some semlors for our treat. I called the day before (not realizing they are closed Sunday-Tuesday) to place an order for 18 semlors. They said it would be no problem to make them for me, even though I only gave them just over 24 hours notice. The bakery was beautifully painted back to how it was originally when it opened many many years ago. There is limited seating (only one small table and two chairs) so it's not really meant to be an eat-in bakery. The semlors were a hit with book club! Everyone enjoyed them quite a bit. They did seem to be a little dry to me. Not sure if we got "day old" semlors or they were just drier than I would have guessed. The filling was delicious and plentiful. Would love to come back and try some other items they have--the giant cookies look so yummy!

We decided to share a double scoop, which was more than enough for us. After sampling a few different ice creams, we decided to go with two very "summer" flavors: summer peach and lemon meringue pie. The summer peach was super juicy and refreshing. I've never had peach-flavored ice cream before, so this was a really nice treat. I'm usually not the biggest fan of citrus-based desserts, but the lemon meringue pie ice cream blew me away. There was a good balance of bright acidity mixed with pie crumbles without being overly tart. Overall, solid ice cream flavors. I was even more impressed because these aren't the flavors I'd normally choose for myself, but I loved it. Stop by Graeter's if you're in the Pittsburgh area!

Even the young staff were surprised I showed up like it was the first day of summer. After perusing the menu for a nanosecond, I went with the $7.95 Caramel Toffee Cappuccino Milkshake. It featured espresso, caramel sauce, whipped cream, toffee bits, and a wedge of dark chocolate (Photo 9). Just what I was craving in the dead of winter.
