Great place for ramen! I don't come here often, but when I do, I order the spicy chanpon. It generously comes with an assortment of seafood swimming in a delicious, spicy hot broth. Noodles are chewy but they do stick together. Service is nice but kind of slow for being a place that doesn't have a lot of customers. I've been to other restaurants in this complex, but I'm glad my friend introduced me to Kirkaku. The food was very good and attractive. I ordered a bento box with beef bulgogi, rainbow roll, rice, salad, and miso soup. The others ordered ramen, shrimp tempura, chicken katsu curry, teriyaki chicken, spicy tuna roll, and California roll. The restaurant is small. Our male server was very nice and you can tell there were repeat customers by the way he was talking with them and interacting with them. Don't understand why the rating isn't 4.5+. Moved from San Gabriel Valley recently and have been struggling to find the same types of quality home-feel Asian restaurants that exist in that area. For those who know, the restaurants in SGV are unmatched in terms of authenticity, variety, taste, and overall comfort. This place is now on my list of favorite spots. Right off the bat, the staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. We were seated right away, our order was taken almost immediately after, and the server gave excellent opinions and recommendations. We got our food quickly, were frequently checked up on and had conversations with the workers that felt genuine and fun. We got our check quickly, and we were out of there after a cheerful goodbye from the staff. The service that I experienced was impeccable. The ambiance feels like a small ramen house meets a modern cafe - pretty casual, well-lit, overall enjoyable. The food was soul-nourishing. We decided on the Shortrib Shoyu Ramen - both spicy and not spicy - that came with a side. We both chose the Chahan fried rice and it was absolutely perfect. You can taste the char in the pork and the seasoning was umami and you can taste the flavors of each ingredient. The ramen tasted like someone's grandmother made it - the noodles had a great texture, not mushy, and the broth was savory - definitely not too salty for my taste like some of these other reviews. Delicious ramen, my dad had the vegetarian ramen which he really enjoyed and I had the spicy short rib ramen which was so delicious. The meat comes on the bone, so they give you scissors to cut the meat off. My kids had curry and rice which was a hit and we also had the salmon sashimi to start. They were nice thick slices of sashimi and you could tell it was very fresh. The service was great. They were extraordinarily attentive and were quick to clean up any mess my kids made which was super unexpected and unfortunately a never ending task with a 1 and 3 year old. Lunch special bento comes with Salad with their signature dressing, Gyoza, miso soup rice and 2 choice of entree. Also the customer service level in this place was at another level. Chef got me one of his secret dish that's not even on the menu and I worked as a line cook at sushi place before but never tasted something like this before. Only for the Yaki Soba: I agree with Elite Yelper Maruko X. that Kiraku is not particularly authentic Japanese. The flavours are a bit off from the typical Japanese food spectrum and the finer knife skills of most Japanese chefs are missing. So if stronger, more direct, less refined flavours and vegetables chopped in rough chunks are to your liking, Kiraku may be the place for you. Kiraku in Japanese has a meaning of comfort, without care. The no nonsense service here is adequate & quick. It is in the Japanese named Tōzai/East West Plaza which hosts Japanese, Korean Thai, Chinese establishments including the venerable, traditional, Udon specialist Japanese restaurant, Kotohira which also serves dishes from Okinawa, southernmost region of Japan. Ordered Yaki Soba which is Rāmen noodles sautéed with worchestershire sauce which lends a fruity, fermented, agrodolce, sweet spiciness and tinges the noodles brown. The cabbage is chopped up into large chunks so it doesn't cook through. Carrots are julienned in too long strips which doesn't give a pleasant mouthfeel. The worchestershire sauce is exceedingly, cloyingly sweet. A scant bit of chopped sliced, hard cooked pork for the price. Overall shiny gloss to the noodles which tasted of excessive use of oil in the sautéing. The Beni Shōga/red pickled ginger with its acidic, sour, salty gastrique was the saving ingredient that somewhat countered the over sweetness and oil. It's the amateurish attempt of someone who does occasional home cooking. 3- Yelp stars. read more

The staff NOW is very welcoming and always says hi to everybody when they walk in. I love the sushi here because it's cheap, like $10-$14 for some pretty damn good sushi.
