I'm not sure I've ever given a 2-star review and this makes me kinda sad. The location is pretty good, the drinks are amazing and that's where the 2 stars stop. Location Drinks My husband had the Mule and I had the Blueberry Vodka Lemonade. SOOOO good! My husband and I stopped here after a day at the beach because we hadn't been here in years! It will definitely be the last time we eat here. The pizza was cold, wet and soggy at the bottom. I ended up eating a couple of pieces around the sides, closer to the crust where it wasn't wet gross bread. My first bite I said to my husband "This tastes like Red Baron pizza." I highly do not recommend the pizza. I've had the lettuce wraps while hanging out at Odd Sides and they were delicious! The service was honestly also not great. She was friendly enough, but being attentive to guests was not trained into any of the servers working the outdoor seating area. We were one of 3 tables outside, so they were not busy. I can understand, and have total empathy for, being a server in weeds so deep it's hard to get drinks re-ordered (been there done that), but today was not the case. At one point there were 5 servers/hostess standing around the hostess stand while our drinks were empty. Wild. I saw what looked like a manger walking in the area twice (not near us) and at one point another server was talking on her phone while walking through the outdoor dining area, telling the person on the other line "I'm still at work." Physically yes, mentally no. I can't help but feel like the cold wet pizza I was less of a kitchen issue than a service issue. The outdoor patio dining area is probably one of the most tired looking on the street of downtown Grand Haven with chipped paint on stools and old umbrellas (what few there were). Kirby used to be a destination in Grand Haven for their food, service and wood fired pizzas. I'm sad about what it's become now. I'd recommend go elsewhere. There are so many great places for eats and drinks that you can pass on Kirby House. I'm holding out hope for a big comeback for this place! read more

Okay so when we went in, it said it was going to take about 20 minutes to 15 minutes for three people table wait. We gave them our number and waited for the call. The weight took about 45 minutes, which was kind of concerning because they said it was going to be 15 to 20 before but that's whatever I guess as we walk in we're waiting for a table for five minutes and once we got our table, it took forever to get a waitress once we got the waitress. We ordered our food pretty early and still got our food very late. My son ordered the kids stirfry without cashews because he's allergic and they still put cashews on there so yeah. The food was okay and the Diet Coke's were mid. also, the ice and the ice water kept melting way too fast. I'll give it 12 stars out of 43. Anyway... Have a blessed day! read more

Wow. What an incredibly terrible experience with such a rude waitress, I think her name was KENZA ? Not Reghan, she was a good waitress and very kind. But the other one was terrible and has lead us to forever remove this restaurant from our options. I asked the waiter for the manager, I watched him go inside and tell the manager, Daniel Steven's, but no one came out. Walking into Kirby's House for the first time I was impressed! Love the old refurbished building, clean and tasteful decor! I ordered the coconut mojito for a drink, I highly recommend it! I couldn't pass on the Kirby burger. Now that is a burger!! Thick burger patty cooked to how I like, brisket, jalapeños, onion ring sauce and all the topping! Delicious!!! I can't wait to go back! I have never written any sort of review in my life but the service I received at Kirby on 7/1/26 was the worst I've ever seen. I've worked in the service industry and I am really disappointed in the way things are run at Kirby. 1. We were told that our wait would be 20 mins, we waited 40. 2. We were completely ignored by the hostess and watched other people that were behind us get sat before us simply because they complained about the wait time and were old. 3. Our server was THE WORST IVE EVER SEEN!!! She walked us to our table, threw our menus on the table, didn't speak a single word to us when seating us and glared at us and walked away. We waited 15mins and she never once even came to our table so we left. 4. I spoke to the manager and told her about how we were treated and she told us to sit back down and told us she'd get us her 'best server' and that then we would have good service....if you manage a restaurant shouldn't all your servers be up to par. Great spot. Good food. Okay service. Plenty of outdoor seating. High tops and low tables available. We were able to bring in our bikes, since we didn't have locks. It wasn't too busy. Live music started and he was great but the competing music from across the street was annoying. The service was slow and didn't pay attention to detail, like flatware or waters. The lettuce wraps were fresh and good but very messy. Should have had extra napkins brought with the plate. Not have to wait forever for her to come back to ask for more napkins. It was a wonder why she was so busy when so many staffers were just milling around, chatting. Inside was spacious with a large projector showing sports. I understand why they are so slow for a Saturday afternoon. The flatbreads are good. Asked for light cheese and they made it just as asked. The white chicken chili was hearty. We got on the list to sit outside and they said the wait would be about 10-15 minutes. We waited about 25 before we asked what was happening, and they said they were moving people inside. We asked if we could sit inside and she said we should be on the list. So we waited even longer and asked again and she said we weren't on any list! Update: Ordered the pan seared grouper. The fish itself was okay, but the rice was way over seasoned/too salty. Ended up paying $25 for just eating fish. I'd recommend ordering the grouper sandwich to save money, but you also get more food (amazing fries instead of awful rice). I would have complained but the waitress never asked how it was. I also had to ask for silverware for myself since it wasn't included. Great views and a fun indoor gaming room. Would recommend for drinks and pizza, but not the entrees (see fish taco review below). First time I was here: Average fish tacos, poor service, but excellent follow-up customer service. The waitress was having personal issues (struggled talking, was fidgety, twitchy, etc.), but she also was slow with taking orders. The fish tacos were dry and the coating/seasoning wasn't great, but the veggie toppings were fresh/good. Lastly. Our server Ava was fantastic! She was at the table getting our drink order right after we were sat. Checked on us several times throughout the dinner and promptly brought the check. We both loved the food. Super hot (temperature) when it arrived and it looked and tasted great. Restaurant ambiance was great and although it was very busy, it wasn't too loud and the many employees bustling around were quietly performing their well rehearsed tasks. Sat at the bar for a few drinks. Bartender was nice but we watched as she poured drinks, she took a bug out of a drink with a straw, and continued to go on to serve it. Continued to hard handle straws and rims of glasses. Grand Haven local. Been here a few times and food and drink is nothing special, but always good and consistent. I would've said the ambiance was nice until my most recent experience at an event. The set up itself wasn't bad, but what ruined the event for me, was the management. Several of us overheard the manager speaking to staff in a demeaning, condescending way. I suspect they thought they were out of earshot -- they weren't. It was unprofessional and created an uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone involved. I've heard some chatter that this kind of behavior isn't out of the ordinary here, but this was my first time witnessing it. As a parent, I feel bad for the kids on staff. For many of them, this is their first job and it's unfortunate this is their first impression of what a workplace is supposed to be like. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. There are numerous restaurants in GH with better food and service. read more

I think the other reviews speak volumes of what to expect when you eat here. I did not have high expectations. The food was okay. It was a nice quick spot to grab a bite after a day at the beach. There was no wait. The server was nice and attentive. The best thing we ate was the french fries. They were hot and alittle crunchy! But the grouper sandwich was a big flop. The jerk seasoning was way over powering. I would definitely not recommend it. My husband did not mind the chicken sandwich but it was not great. I am not sure if I would ever go there again. It is such a disappointment because they have TONS of staff and a great location! But if you can't make good food ... no one will want to come back. We stumbled into Kirby House after searching for a casual lunch spot near the water. Upstairs has a larger patio with beach vibes and umbrellas for shade! Loved the ambiance at the Kirby House. Our waitress Hannah was outstanding - friendly, courteous and ready to make recommendations. The macho nacho and coconut mojito were both excellent. Macho Nachos plate was large enough for 2-4 people depending on appetites. Very tasty and pleasant kick, not sure if it was the jalapeños or the sauce, but definitely worth the price. Coconut mojito was a perfect complement to the nachos - sweet, but not cloying! Lobster roll was eh.... The ratio of bitter greens to lobster was subpar and the bitter greens overwhelmed the lobster. The size of the sandwich was larger than most lobster rolls, but I felt like I was eating an arugula sandwich with a bit of lobster. Overall, we were happy with the Kirby House and plan to return again. Maybe next time we add our names. read more

First time here and have to say it's amazing! There was no wait, we sat outside in the warm sun. Beautiful day for it. The atmosphere is fantastic for being next the main road. Not so loud, a nice place to walk around. The waiter was nice, patient and checked up on us consistently. The restrooms are beautiful and clean. They even have wait seating in the bathroom. My fiance told me they are even known to be a haunted restaurant. Which makes it even a better reason to come back. We love our haunted places and the stories told. The food was omg over the top amazing!! I can't even say how good. It was so good I don't have the words to describe it! It's an experience you can only get when you come and eat it yourself! Saturday was a great day, good weather and this corner apparently is a trending place right now. I'd definitely suggest this place but take your time since the outside part is about 15 tables, there's no reservations so we had to put our name and went to the bar inside. Since they don't have a communication system I had to check every 15 min with the hostess outside. Meanwhile we had some drinks and I tried this bloody Mary who turned out to be a very unique drink, it has a celery stick, bacon on a stick, green chili, a slice of salami and a pickle! This was original and s new thing to taste. Once outside we ordered a meatsa pizza, it's like 12 inches but was very tasty and crunchy. Along with that we had an order of fries and this was amazing it was a huge bowl with their seasoned fries it was enough for three people! We had the Thai chicken lettuce wraps, rosemary fries, and Caribbean pesto hummus crudite. The Thai chicken lettuce wrap was okay, nothing special. The rosemary fries were so crispy and delicious! The rosemary garlic spice used makes these so addicting. The hummus was interesting but I really liked the flavors. The pesto was not too strong or overpowering.
