Literally my favorite poke place ever! Been coming here since high school and it'll always be my favorite. Not many places have eel, so I always get it when I come here. Their portions are pretty generous too and the presentation is beautiful. This place is great for people with social anxiety-- you fill out a paper form with all the options in front of you and you don't have to worry about remembering everything you want when you tell the cashier. There are only a few tables and seats inside, plus some seats along the window where my friend and I sat. Parking is difficult on Austin though, so either hope for parking on the side streets or just take the train (M/R). read more

This is actually my second time here. First time being years ago when they first opened. Honestly, I still remember getting a few salmon/tuna hand rolls and was pleasantly surprised. Therefore, I may not have been expecting a blow my mind type of meal, but I certainly thought it would be fresh. Well, I was right, it was fresh. More importantly, it was overall quite tasty. It starts with the rice, which was warm and glutinous. I thought the house soy might have been overpowering, but it was a good sauce and unified all the flavors in the bowl. If you look at the picture of my ordering sheet, you can see that I ordered a ton of stuff. I paid extra for two more ptlroteins (eel & tamago), along with extra toppings (avocado and ikura). By rhe time I was done, my bowl was $29, but I felt it was a good deal. In the end, I know poke bowls will never be my first choice. Presentation 10/10. 2 proteins: salmon & tuna - tasty, fresh, and delicious! Had soy sauce and house sauce on the side (nicely packaged! I enjoyed both). Staff are friendly and it's a quiet little place on Austin St. Ingredients were fresh, price was affordable for what you'd get and poke bowls were packed to the brim. However, last month I came here and got a poke bowl and was disappointed by it. Thought it was a one time thing- an off day. Decided to give them another try and it was even more disappointing. For reference, my order is always the same: proteins are spicy tuna and eel with pretty much all the toppings. These last 2 times in the past 2 months, ingredients were not as fresh, quality of ingredients were not as great and flavorful, and they've been skimping out. All very noticeable. This review is exclusively in regard to the seaweed Kissfish uses for their rolls. It's been going on for quite a while now. The seaweed is unbearably rubbery and chewy, making it a real challenge to even bite through it. I find it hard to believe that Kissfish does not realize it. Seaweed should be light and crispy. I eat raw fish a lot and something tasted so off I decided to undo the wrap and I wish I hadn't. If you're in the mood for poke, I think this is the best place in Forest Hills. I love their ingredients and the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because sometimes the rice is a bit clumpy and some of the veggies and fruits (avocado and mango specifically) are not fully ripe. I think overall, this is a really good poke place. Easily in my top favorites. Considering the neighborhood it is in, I would say this is one of the best places to eat. I got the Build Your Own Bowl with Salmon and Tuna. I feel like the rice is a good portion compared to the other ingredients, so there isn't a an abundance of one ingredient. The only thing I would say is, I wish they had different bowl size because this place is so good, I could definitely go for a large. To order: when you go in, just grab a slip of paper and start filling out what you'd like to order. I think this is really smart and efficient because you see all the ingredients in front of you and there will not be any misunderstandings and any mis-ordering. Overall, great poke place. This is really like a hole in the wall. I walked by it a few times, they had boxes piled in the dining area, not really any chairs. I always thought they were still under construction or in the process of moving. When You walk in, there are a few seats but no one eats there. So it is essentially a take out place. A great place to grab some poke. There aren't many poke spots in western Queens so it's always nice to see one around. Prices and portions are comparable to the city. The quality of food here is great. The store itself is some steps up from the street and is a pretty small space. You go in and fill out a menu sheet to place your order. I came in here for a quick Poke fix and this was great! They had a no contact screen in the store, but I got to fill out a sheet with all the toppings I wanted and handed it to them. I got a Poke bowl with half salad and half brown rice. For the protein, I got spicy tuna and salmon. The fish was alright, it wasn't bad, but I got two sticks of kani as a topping. Usually kani is considered a protein at other poke places, so this was a plus! I also got most of the toppings, and they were all good. The mango was sweet but very soft which wasn't that bad. One tiny complaint that I had was that there was too much sauce. I did ask for two expecting half half but I got around two whole servings of sauce. Some people may like that, but my bowl was pretty wet at the bottom. Overall, there was a good portion and I think it was around 11-12 dollars total. The presentation was also cute! While I'm thrilled to see a poke spot in Forest Hills, the quality of their food is just so-so. My first bowl I ordered with zucchini noodles, shrimp, salmon, masago, nori, scallions with yuzu sauce. I liked the zucchini noodle option, it was light and refreshing, and balanced by the nutty sesame oil. This would be perfect on a summer day. But the shrimp were butterflied and overcooked. They only gave 3 or 4 shrimp to begin with, but the texture of the flat, dry shrimp was unpleasant. I've never had shrimp served like this in a poke bowl and it didn't work well. Next bowl was spicy tuna and spicy salmon with crispy onion, cucumber, kani, avocado, masago, nori, and wasabi mayo. I couldn't tell the fish apart, both were a pale peach color that didn't look appealing and tasted similar, and not spicy. The kani was put into the bowl whole instead of being served shredded with spicy mayo. Wasabi mayo was also not spicy. This will satisfy your poke craving, but overall the quality and effort are low compared to other restaurants serving the same. read more

Talk about a bounce back. Last night, Jayson and I decided to give Kissfish a reshot. We were absolutely hooked when they first opened -- we were among their first customers. And, they are one of the few places that we've tried over the years -- in all parts of NYC, from Manhattan to Flushing -- that actually does a poke bowl right. We started with KissFish's newest offering, shrimp shumai. ... And, they had him at "shumai." Jayson loves his shumai. But, as he's found out the hard way, not all shumai are created equal. Well, there was no disappointment here. I barely got a half a bite. He ate them all, which is not all the often the case. As for the main dish, we both ordered the tuna poke bowl with lettuce. We had it topped with the works: corn, edamame, avocado, pickled ginger and seaweed. I added seaweed to mine, while Jayson ordered his with cucumbers. Clearly, KissFish is big on making sure they serve the freshest ingredients, as everything from the tuna to the avocado was absolutely fresh and delicious. A great local spot for poke! I seriously scarfed it down it was so delicious. Everything was fresh and tasted great. Very affordable also (for the bowl and a bottle of water I paid about $15). The place is clean.
