Kitchen 1883 has been on my list to try for a while and I finally was able to try them for Cincinnati Wing Week. I tried Chef Sean's Featured Cherry Bourbon Wings served with ranch and their 1883 Chicken Wings tossed in Buffalo with ranch. I loved that they clearly made a concerted effort to include equal numbers of flats and drums for each order of Wings. The Buffalo sauce was very traditional and really enjoyable. The Cherry Bourbon was much sweeter than I had anticipated and was reminiscent of a BBQ sauce. Half of my Wings were very tough and chewy, but the other half we perfectly tender, so I think it may have just been a fluke. The Braxton Storm Beer Cheese & Pretzel Bites were honestly the highlight of the show, which was kind of disappointing for Wing Week. The Beer Cheese had so much depth and flavor that I will definitely be ordering it again! read more

Surprisingly good place next to the giant Kroger in Union. Came for an early Friday evening dinner with my parents and the place was almost packed - only one high top table and a few bar stools remained. Friday from 2-7 is Happy Hour, with good prices on (already reasonably priced) adult beverages. From the September specials menu, I had to order the deviled eggs - that's a given... if deviled eggs are on a menu, I'm getting them. This version, with bourbon bacon jam and blue cheese, was really good with a nice kick (from the bourbon I assume). I had the Shrimp & Andouille Pasta ($13) - minus the Andouille. They can also make this dish vegetarian or vegan. Very tasty simple pasta. Not an overly large portion and with the tomatoes and mushrooms, this managed to taste fresh and not leaden like a lot of pasta dishes can. My mother got the Summer Salmon ($16), also with a fresh lemon and herb sauce. She liked the dish - and she's a way tougher critic than me! The salmon is served atop some squash and tomatoes. Again, it's a smaller dish compared to the chain restaurants that try to feed you until you're numb. It's actually a nice approach! If I still lived here, I'd definitely keep Kitchen 1883 in mind - the prices are very reasonable and the menu is full of interesting choices not regularly found in a Northern Kentucky strip mall. Friendly service too. And a nice big parking lot for your ubiquitous SUV/truck. read more

Service was very slow, waitress was audibly talking badly about coworkers, forgot to check on our refills the whole 90m we were there. Food took so long to arrive that by the time it did I managed 2 bites before nausea hit. So why 3 stars? I'm spoiled by high quality dining in major cities, and I'm guessing this place is still loved by locals even when they have an "off night" for the wait staff. No complaints about quality of the food, just how long it took to get to the table (ok one complaint - my fries were too cold to be edible) I don't think we'll return, but it wasn't the worst dining experience we've ever had. Wow were we surprised by how awesome this restaurant was! We met my aunt and grandpa here for a post-church Sunday Brunch per my aunt's recommendation. I was a little skeptical when we pulled up to the Kroger parking lot but I am so glad she brought us here. The restaurant has a masculine, industrial vibe inside. We sat right down (my aunt says it's rarely crowded) and had a great waitress. The food was excellent. Biscuits and homemade sausage gravy, spicy chicken and waffles, a really tasty multigrain waffle (don't let the multigrain fool you- it was delicious). You will leave with a full belly. I meet my friend here for a drink after work, we came here during a Wednesday- the restaurant have 1/2 off for a bottle of wine. We did ordered one and enjoyed to the last drop. For food we ordered Cauliflower- sprouts and flat bread to share. They were both delicious, serving size is big enough to share and serve as our main entree too since we were too full to order more food. The service was great! Excellent, our serving was very attentive, helpful and friendly. We are planning on going back again- probably every Wednesday. This restaurant is located next to Kroger's in Union, KY. As we were dining, the atmosphere was quieter than normal- with a little chatter in the background. All food leaving kitchen looked good. Made for a lot of back and forth decisions.but the mushroom ricotta appetizer was delish and I had the Brussels sprouts salad. Both delish! Service was good and all were very attentive. Came in for late dinner. It was great that they served us so late. Shrimp and grits with a egg was good, and good have been great had it not been so soupy. I had a taste of the pork chop entree. We stopped by this place tonight for dinner after hearing it was the first restaurant that was put in/next to a Kroger. Everything made in the restaurant is made from scratch and sourced from local farms and markets. When you walk in it's very spacious and the decor is nice. They have many different things on their menu to choose from. For our appetizer we got pretzels and beer cheese. The pretzels were from a local bakery and were amazing, especially with the cheese. It was $7 for the plate and they gave you a good amount unlike some places. The main attraction that really brought us here was the Chicken and Waffles which we both ordered as our meals. The chicken was SO GOOD. It could've been flavored better, but it was so fresh and juicy that it made up for the lack of flavor on the breading. I really wish the chicken was spicy or had some hot flavor profile, because it would've paired perfect with the multi-grain waffles. The waffles that came along with it were pretty good, but I prefer Taste Of Belgiums any day. Although when I did get a bite of the chicken and waffles together it was amazing and satisfied my cravings. It comes with syrup, butter, and a little portion of coleslaw. I absolutely love trying new places, and when my sister suggested we meet here last night right as the rain was turning to snow and temperatures were dropping from mid 60's to bellow 35 before we left, I was anxious because it was a good hour from my house, but happy to try a new place. I am GLAD we did! First off, it is extremely cozy, with a new bldg, but it has a lot of exposed brick inside, concrete floor, nice wood finishes around the bar, table and a few highlight walls which makes it almost seem like an 1883 pub. Next, the young guy that waited on us...been there 4 months and still has no name tag so we started calling him Zak, was an absolute pleasure and made out visit special. Food, WOW! We started with the Cauli-Sprouts which are absolutely a great starter; not quite enough for 4 people, unless everyone eats like my wife and actually samples them. They were perfect! Moved then to the soup of the day which was perfect for the day, Icelandic Cod Chowder. Heavy on cubed potatoes,chunks of cod and a creamy base (one of the best chowders I've EVER had). Two people had the salmon on a bed of the Cauli-Sprout, one had pot roast and I had the daily special of pulled sliders. Delectable! I can't praise this place enough! I tend to be a creature of habit so it's not very often that I try new places but I am so glad I did. I got the Shrimp and Cheesy Grits. It does have a creole sauce but they make every dish made to order so they can adjust the spice level to fit your palate. It was packed full of flavor. Also ordered the crab cakes. Delicious as well. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side but the decor is so nice, it makes it seem cozy. 10/10 will definitely be back! read more

We treated our Grandparents to brunch at Kitchen 1883 for Grandparents Day and everyone loved the food! The ambience, service and food was excellent! This was the first time that any of our Grandparents had ate at the restaurant and our party ordered appetizers, breakfast, soup, salad, sandwiches and other lunch items and there was not one single complaint! We were excited that the brunch menu has two goetta items available! The roasted cauli-sprouts are absolutely amazing! The restaurant is owned by Kroger and Union, Kentucky currently has the only restaurant. Kroger is getting ready to open a second restaurant in Anderson Township in Ohio and recently announced that they will be opening a third location in downtown Cincinnati in the future! read more

We wanted Italian, but the wait at a new place in Cincy was an hour. There was not Italian or anything interesting in Florence, so we ended up here. If I could give it a 3 1/2, that would be more accurate. It is part of the Kroger building, which was a little weird, but whatever. We had an Oskar Blues on draft, pretzels with beer cheese, deviled eggs, and a fried chicken sandwich. Everything was ... good ... not great or extraordinary, but decent. read more

Very clean restaurant. Some of the other reviews said it was a bar, but I disagree. There is bar seating, but more tables and booths. The Cauli Sprouts appetizer was amazing. My husband got the shrimp and grits. We are from Louisiana and compared to ours it was very good. I had the Pan roasted chicken breast. I had them put the lemon orange beurre blanc on the side and I'm glad I did. I've never had that, it tasted good, but think it may have been too overpowering over the food. The roasted carrots were excellent and the sweet potato pancake was good also. read more

I found the restaurant on line and decided to give it a try. I didn't read the history and assumed it had some historical meaning related to the town. That assumption made the location a surprise, but it turned out well and equally interesting to what I had formed in my mind. It actually a Kroger endeavor and the name is rooted in the founding of Kroger! The outside facade has been "aged" and the inside is quite charming with an "old feel". The place was packed (in a good way). The food was delicious and the service was great! The menu had a nice variety of offerings; definitely something for everyone. Kitchen 1883 is new restaurant concept from Kroger located at the Union Kentucky Kroger Marketplace. I visited on a Sunday for brunch with a friend and her husband, they've raved about Kitchen 1883 after a few visits, so finally found the time to meet up with them. We were seated right away and handed paper menus, the restaurant has a rustic country feel to it with large photos of fresh produce and regional specialties on the back wall. We started out with a round of drinks, her husband with bloody mary and we both selected the mimosa sampler, which had pear, passionfruit and guava. The passionfruit was my favorite, love anything with passionfruit, followed by guava, the pear was a bit too sweet. Then tried to decide on the main dish, friend went with biscuits and gravy, her husband with the 3 meat omelette on special and as I was trying to decide between breakfast or lunch, went with the pork hash skillet as something different to try. Our food came out quickly. Friend and her husband both enjoyed their dishes, but mine was okay nothing special, I asked for some salsa to make the dish better, they had homemade pico de gallo, but was just too dry. I should have gone with lunch instead in looking back at the menu I wish they had more omelette options, everyone loves a good omelette don't they. The rest of their menu for lunch or dinner looks good and would be up for returning on a future visit. Good try 1883. read more

The restaurant we went to was connected to the local Kroger store. I was in the mood for fish and they had salmon on the menu. It sounded very good but, the salmon was only one and a half inches wide and four inches long. For almost sixteen dollars and the small portion for a hefty price , this is the reason for my review.
