My wife and I dined at Kitchen House Cafe tonight, and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We ordered the Megrulian Khachapuri and Lamb Kebab. The Megrulian Khachapuri is traditional Georgian flat bread, made from a yeast dough and baked with a savory cheese filling, and a second layer of cheese baked on top. It was served right from the oven cut into wedge shaped slices and was delicious. Our shared lamb Kebab was a very generous portion of large chunks of grilled lamb. Served in a bowl with its natural juices topped with thin sliced onions, it was perfectly seasoned, tender, and cooked to a perfect medium rare as we had requested. A side of the Georgian version of ketchup was an excellent accompaniment, tart, tasting of garlic and herbs with just a bit of heat. Service was very good, prices are reasonable, and the dining room spacious and attractively decorated. I recommend Kitchen House Cafe, and we look forward to coming back to try more of the Georgian dishes listed on their menu. read more

Kitchen House Cafe had the vibe of a place that could be a hidden gem, but tonight felt more like I accidentally wandered into someone else's family reunion. There appeared to be a private party going on, and to be fair, they seemed to be having a fantastic time. I, meanwhile, mostly felt like an NPC in the background of their celebration. Service was a little off-putting -- not outright bad, just the kind that makes you wonder if you somehow interrupted something important by ordering food. I tried the Chkmeruli (garlic chicken) and khachapuri. Both were decent enough, but at around $45 total, I kept waiting for the "wow, this is worth it" moment that never really arrived. The khachapuri was fine, the chicken was fine... everything was just aggressively okay. To be fair, your mileage may vary. I may have caught them on an off night, and clearly other people there were enjoying themselves. But based on this visit, it felt less like a cozy culinary discovery and more like paying cover charge to awkwardly attend a party I wasn't invited to. read more

This is the closest experience to Georgian cuisine outside of Georgia we've ever had! We like Georgian kitchen, we sure tried it a number of times (and places) in Georgia as well as in the USA and some other countries. To our opinion this is the best place in the USA for sure! The place has not so fancy setting (not to say something is wrong there - setting is clean and neat), but the food for sure is excellent. We ordered Khachapuri, Khinkali, as well as pork and lamb shashlicks. Every single dish was excellent. We've been in this place twice by now. The first time we had little problem in communication - that waitress could not speak English, only Georgian and russian. Now they have a new waitress that can speak English, Ukrainian, as well as russian, (possibly more, I'm not sure about that:-)). If you are like Georgian cuisine or just want to get an idea about it you sure should come here! We will be coming here again and again, that's for sure! read more

This was our first time at Kitchen House Cafe and we had a great experience. The food was so good! We started with the khachapuri, which came out piping hot with a perfectly runny egg yolk and melted cheese--absolute melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I still think about it and it's a must-order if you're dining here. We also tried the borsch, which was beautifully presented and very tasty. We rounded out our meal with draniki and Georgian Ostri, both of which were quite good. The staff was friendly, though the service was a bit slow. I had learned that over the past few years, a number of Georgian restaurants had opened in the Wheeling area, and I was excited to visit one the next time I was in the area (usually once a year). Another Yelp friend also here for the same event found Kitchen House Cafe, conveniently less than a mile from the hotel at which we were all staying. Our group dinner was everything I had hoped it would be, with great and friendly service, a fine selection of Georgian wines, and those delicious traditional Georgian foods. The Georgian wines included both red and white options. I was disappointed not to see any Didebuli, but the Saperavi we ordered was terrific with a very rich flavor. It paired well with everything. I think among the 9 of us we sampled just about every entree on the menu, and of course several of the cheese boats. Mine was the most traditional, with butter, cheese, and egg, and it was perfectly crisp on the outside. We of course saved some of the pastry to dip in the juices of the other entrees. And I need one of those wine glass cleaners like they have here. We did not have dessert here, but there are many good options, because they are also a bakery, with a counter displaying many decadent looking options. read more

Had the lamb kebabs. It came with about eight big pieces and they were very tender and flavorful. We also have one of the Georgian bottle drinks they had in the cooler. Refreshing lemonade flavor. You know it was freshly made because it took about 15 minutes for them to prepare and give it to us. We ate in the car on the way home. Next time we will try and eat at the restaurant as the atmosphere was clean and nice. read more

When in Chicago we love to check out the amazing options for international cuisine. Never having had Georgian food before and seeing positive reviews we decided to give it a try. Firstly, I love that they have so many wines from Georgia but if you're not adventurous, they have many more main stream options. We began with the Khinkali which were incredible. Next we shared the Tbilisi salad which was substantial and finished with the lamb Shashlik. Schweety thought it was some of the best lamb he had ever had in a restaurant. The presentation and spicy sauce were excellent. There was definitely a language barrier but the menu gives excellent descriptions. Also, the atmosphere is leisurely. A little gem hidden away, you could drive by it and not notice it. The food is great! They also offer a great selection of Georgian wines. It had been a while since we tried Georgian food, and this place didn't disappoint. The service is what you would expect from a small family run business, everyone trying their best. I love the decor, love that there's a georgian restaurant to fill the void ever since that other georgian takeout place closed. So I truly want to like this place with 5 stars. Spacious place so it is good for group gathering. However, the service is hit or miss. They always carry a smile on their face. But we asked for tap water when we ordered, and the water didn't turn up till i went up to the counter to ask again...Maybe she didn't understand/hear what I was asking the first time around =/ Food was ok, kinda pricey for the portion size. Nice presentation but not the best I had. The Georgian Kaurma was a good dish, but just wish it was reheated thoroughly. There were some luke warm spot while some part of the dish were quite hot. This is not the first time we eat here every time when we visit Chicago and this place never disappoints. Every item from the menu is very delicious with authentic Georgian (European) flavor. The portions are generous enough. We shared almost everything. But even if you'd have leftovers, they will be good to take home. I've never tried Georgian food before, and I'm glad I stopped by this charming location to sample some of their menu! There is a small patio/sidewalk seating area, but we opted to sit indoors because of the interesting booth and wall decor (and air conditioning!). The khachapuri was very fresh, and the crust was satisfyingly crispy, light, and fluffy. We also had the Georgian soup, and it was delicious as well. The other day my partner and I were dropping someone off in wheeling (we are EMTs based in Chicago) and we had a break to get food and wanted something that was not fast food and something we cannot get in our neck of the woods. We came upon this place and I was very excited cause I always wanted to try a khachapuri (a famous Georgian bread that has cheese and an egg in the center). The service was amazing, everyone super nice! Place is very clean, including the bathroom (I do judge those kinds of things). I was kinda sad that I was working cause it seems more like a sit down and eat place. I fully intend to come back when I am not working and get a glass of the Georgian wine I have heard so much about with a nice bowl of stew and some more fresh bread. read more

A rare find: an authentic Georgian cafe in Chicago! It comes with local dishes, drinks, music and even a waitress who speaks Georgian no matter what language you address her! I only ordered one dish, a universally recognized Litmus paper test for all Georgian restaurants: Khachapuri. It oozed cheese and dripped egg, and dough was mountain dew fresh. Improve barista's English, change the ridiculously bland name for something more authentic (Sakartvelo, Tbilisi or Gamargoba), and you got yourself a five star establishment. read more

Wow, delicious! I had the Georgian Ostri (beef, souse, garlic, spices) and it was one of the best things I've eaten in years! The potato belyashi was good (reminded me a little of a Runza), and the adjarian khachapuri was unique and good but next time I may try the one just with butter and egg (no cheese).
