Went on a busy uptown Saturday night for my second visit as we enjoy the prix fixe menu for Blumenthal shows. The restaurant itself was fairly quiet. Unfortunately, the service this go round will prevent me from returning. One server was taking charge of the whole of the restaurant and she seemed VERY poorly educated on service practice, menu items, and generally was unable to communicate effectively with the others in the restaurant. While my Mahi main was very good, two out of three items in each course of the special menu were unavailable, which wasn't shared upon seating. I watched as the waitress made a mistake on our appetizer, fed another guest fish who has ordered chicken (and then didn't tell her until after she had begun eating) and completely forgot our table's included dessert. The chef was unable to accommodate any appetizers or desserts to accommodate a gluten free diet and the waitress was very unclear on the contents of the provided dishes. With few options, many unavailable items and some of the worst service I have had in years, I'd encourage the Asbury to find Beth a new role elsewhere and rethink their weekend procedures. I was lucky enough to pick the hotel to stay at that had The Asbury attached to it. I had already made my reservation when I was searching downtown for a brunch spot. The consensus was that Asbury was the best option. What luck. I popped in for my reservation and had immediate service from a couple of great servers. I got my mimosa(cranberry was a new option so tried that) and their muffin. The server noted a new batch had just come out of the oven. Wow. Really good. The blueberry was fantastic, and I really wasn't hungry, which says a lot. I plan to be back in town soon, and I think ill run it back with The Asbury. read more

We came here for breakfast to try out the cool spot in the theatre area. It wasn't a bad walk and the weather was nice out. We pooped in and we were quickly greeted and given waters and my much needed coffee. We ordered hot strawberry shortcake pancakes and the ham and goat cheese baked goods. We came with a reservation for brunch but definitely didn't need one. The restaurant was pretty empty at 9am on a Sunday. The staff was quick to seat us, though not particularly inviting or welcoming. The restaurant was small but quiet and we sat at a nice table by the window. We started with the beignets and they were fantastic. I loved the jams that came with them. My sister got the shrimp and grits and reported they were great. I got a BYO omelette. It was great aside from a small hair found inside. Honestly the rest of the experience was positive so I wasn't really that bothered. The home fries were classic and tasty. We stopped in for a quick bite after leaving the Carolina Theater. The menu is very basic for an Uptown restaurant-but it's very reasonably priced. The food was okay at its best. It's not somewhere I'd recommend for a special occasion of any sort. It's nicely decorated and has a nice ambiance but the service is very lax, too lax to be honest. If you're staying at the hotel and don't feel like ordering delivery or heading out it would suffice but it's definitely not worth a trip to the city for. read more

Charming and a great location for the theaters. The drinks weren't bad. Prices were about average. Their math wasn't mathin' though. Their pre fixe dinner menu (the special) was a choice of soup or Spinach dip. One of three entrees and then a dessert for $45 dollars hmmm seems ok? Right?? Wrong. If you looked at the regular menu- and compared prices to the Pre fixe menu, you'd notice it was $6 more expensive to order the pre fixe menu than just ordering the same items separately! As for the food- meh. My salmon was ok, the roasted potatoes were salty, and the veggies were still a bit cold and tasted like the preseasons bag veggies from the store frozen section. We also got the pork chop. It was pretty good. The chutney added flavor for sure, and the mashed potatoes were good. I may stop in for a quick drink on the way to the theater but other than that.. I'd pass. $108 for two 'decent' dinners and three adult beverages. read more

As a native of Charlotte I am absolutely ashamed that I have not been here before. I probably had the best burger ever in my life. Service was great, ambience amazing and everything very clean. Stayed at The Dunhill and had breakfast here, part of the hotel. Excellent. Service wonderful and prompt. Homemade biscuit divine. Grits good. Added on the jalapeno and Gouda potato pancake and glad I did. Just slightly creamy and spicy. Such delicate flavors. A real standout. 16 dollars not including tip. A bit expensive but not for a hotel restaurant on the main street of a fair sized city. Clean. Comfortable chairs. Very hospitable, inviting me to stay as long as I wished even though they were closing for an hour, before reopening for lunch. Great art, good music and a quiet and calming atmosphere. Went to the Asbury for meal prior to the play at Belk theatre. We have dined here once a few years ago, and should have known better. The easiest way to summarize is nothing was good. -Couldn't find reservation upon arrival -Waited 15 min for server to come to table -30 min later, 1 entree and 1 app arrived -Entree was fish and grey - inedible -The remaining 4 items ordered never showed up -Tried multiple times to pay for items served, and staff could not generate a bill. While a weird and undesirable dining experience, I did not expect the staff to suggest that the easiest resolution was to leave. There are too many restaurants downtown and near the Belk theater to have to settle for this restaurant. It did not ruin the evening but tried its hardest at every turn. read more

Our server was attentive and allowed us to eat on our own terms... we were there with two of our four boys and we let her know we were in no rush and would start on appetizers and order dinner to follow. The reviews here are good so maybe I just had bad luck but I was not impressed with The Asbury. My friend and I came before a show across the street at the Blumenthal and had the pre-set menu. The room itself is super tiny and has zero charm. The service was terrible, they were super slow and we had to ask for everything from refills to silverware. The food was bland but not awful. Maybe I will try again without the pre-set menu. read more

Unfortunately, did not have a great experience. The service was excellent and the waitress was doing all the tables herself. The food is what lacked heavily. From the photos advertised online the food looked amazing and that is why we went before seeing Wicked. They also had a special Wicked prefix menu. The shrimp wasn't anything special - it had generic bbq sauce on top, the beef tenderloin steak was 75% fat, and the Mahi Mahi fish was so small it was eaten in 3 bites. WOW...One of the best stakes of my life! The Angus Beef Delmonico Ribeye Steak was absolutely fantastic. The meat melted in the mouth and was cooked perfectly. The Canadian Salmon was perfectly prepared and delicious. Drinks from the bar were A+. The Sticky Biscuits were yummy too. read more

The Asbury is quaint, but elegant. The inside is fairly small but they can accommodate a medium-sized group. They also offer a few patio tables out front. We made a reservation for a Sunday brunch. The sticky biscuits were my favorite. The icing is a little sweet, but overall, they were delicious. The coffee was bland, but I appreciated the flavor creamer options. The pancakes were good, but not exactly special. The staff was attentive, but not especially friendly. Everything came out in a reasonable amount of time. It's been years since I've eaten at the Asbury and their recent reviews have been a little rough, so I was nervous having brunch here a few weekends back. BUT, omg! This was one of the best brunches I've had in a LONG time. The staff was great, helpful and all the things. But the star of the show was my food and my friends food too. I ordered the chicken and waffles, it was cooked to perfection and came with hot honey!!! So so so so good!!!! I added scrambled eggs with cheese and they were delicious as well. My friend ordered their banana pudding pancakes and I tasted those too and almost regretted my order haha. Next time I'll just ordered both! The food was REALLY that good! Service by TK was warm and welcoming. She gave excellent suggestions off the menu. The food, oh my goodness it is delicious! This chef starts you with sweet and savory options that should be packaged up as grab and go and will beat the pants off most dessert places in town. The banana walnut bread and biscuits are delicious. I had the omelette it was prepared with local farm eggs and fluffy and flavored perfectly no added salt or pepper needed. My husband had the breakfast special and it was his favorite meal we have had in Charlotte so far. My daughter had the Cajun Benedict and she said she will be back for more. We have stayed at the Dunhill several times and never ate here but we are regretting that now. Prices are more than fair and atmosphere inviting and beautiful decor. Great date place. I really wanted to like this place because any place that offers Benton's bacon has GOT to be good. We had reservations @ 6:00 pm as we were going to an event at the Carolina Theatre and The Asbury is such a convenient location. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. We ordered almost immediately. After numerous assurances that our meal would be out soon, we decided to leave at 6:45 just as the meals were being delivered to our table. Unfortunately, there was no time left to eat. I left cash on the table to cover the meals and a tip because I didn't want the waitress to be penalized for back of the house issues. I am taking the time to write this review because the management of this restaurant has the opportunity to address the issues and really capitalize on their great location. Asbury is not on most peoples radar I have been told more times than a little they have great brunch so I finally went and checked it out over the weekend. They are located inside of the Dunhill hotel downtown . Our waiter was super nice , and the host seen myself & my friend taking selfies and offered to come over and take pics for us which was nice of her. The staff from the hotel was even super nice the customer service here is A1 that's for sure ! We started off with cranberry mimosas , you can't go wrong with a mimosa. For appetizers we ordered the deviled eggs & sticky biscuits & Omg i committed a serious sin I did not realize til after the fact they had ham in there but I tell you what it was worth it lol. Those sticky biscuits were dynamite ! For our entrees I ordered the chicken & waffles & my friend ordered the banana pudding pancakes . I was invited to a tasting dinner for the launch of their new Chef and menu last week and everything was so delicious. The Asbury is not a place on my radar for dinner spots just bc it's tucked away but if you are going to a show downtown, discovery place or just staying at the Dunhill Hotel then it's a perfect option! It's very quaint a cozy so makes for a good intimate date spot. If it's crowded it can be a little loud---that was my biggest complaint. The snapper and steak dishes were phenomenal. Starting off with the deviled eggs with pickled cucumber on top: 1/5. would not get again. the pickled cucumber gave it a weird taste and the egg yolk was unseasoned and bland. hard pass Next the sticky biscuits were actually fire. If you're coming here I would definitely recommend these sweet sticky biscuits. it's very buttery so it falls apart quite easily but it tastes amazing. Finally the mac n cheese was kinda underwhelming. Again they could've used more seasoning. It was also extremely oily at the bottom. There was so much oil at the bottom it was like an oil pond. Asbury is located in a cute, old fashion hotel. The food was decent. The problem is, the bartender in the lobby doubles as the server in the restaurant... as in the only server. We literally watched him run back and forth between the lobby and restaurant bartending and waiting tables. He was sweet and tried but obviously service was extremely slow. We actually witnessed a table get up and leave after their meal because it seemed like they didn't get their check ever. It needs work but could be cute one day. read more

It takes a lot for me to write a review like this but it must be done. My husband planned an early Valentine's Day dinner for us and selected here. I got all dolled up for a Friday night uptown away from the kids. We walk in and the place is empty, we were really confused so we walked towards the bar to try and figure out if we came in the wrong door. Well, we didn't. The hostels/server makes her appearance and flat out tells us, you two look like you're dressed to have a specially night and you're not gonna get that here. I can tell you quicker what we don't have then what we do on the menu and we also don't have an executive chef. I clearly thought this was going to be some Netflix movie redemption story because instead of leaving and trying to find somewhere else to go at 7:30 on a Friday night that wouldn't have a wait that would cut into our sitter's schedule I told my husband we should just stay. Ultimately, I was really disappointed with our experience here. I hoped for so much more and honestly felt like my childless night on the town was wasted here. With a great location in uptown I would have just expected so much more than what we got. They validate parking in the deck behind the Dunhill hotel, but I was able to find parking on the street. I ordered the amazing banana walnut bread served warm with chocolate ganache and cream cheese icing.....marinate on that for a second....and let me say that it is as good as it sounds and better. I also ordered the banana pudding pancakes with caramelized banana, pastry cream and vanilla crunch......have you ever heard of such? We chose their theater menu because it $40 for three course meal. I chose the soup of the day which was asparagus with cheese finished with olive oil (delicious), my entree was the pan seared to perfection tender salmon with pickled tomato tartar sauce. My meal finished with drunken carrot cake that my husband described as very good. Our son had lamb shoulder with winter chow chow & chimichurri sauce (delicious)& he finished with lemon posset(delicious). My husband had the burger described as "very good " (high praise). We started with the Sticky Buns, they were delicious. I wasnt expecting them to be savory with goat cheese icing and country ham. The Sausage Omlet was divine. I loved the addition of the chorizo sausage. The Mac & Cheese is a MUST - I got it on the side of my omlet - no shame. The Banana Pudding Pancakes can be a full meal or dessert - you decide. Came to The Asbury for a business dinner and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered several appetizers, including the biscuits, deviled eggs, cauliflower and brisket. I found all of them to be very good, but I think the deviled eggs were my favorite. I've never had a deviled egg that was so creamy! I highly recommend. For the main course, I had the lamb shank. Superb. Fall off the bone. The collard greens and feta really complimented the dish. My only suggestion would be to serve some sort of starch with the dish, which would have made it even better. I appreciate the small, cozy venue which makes it comfortable for just two of us or a small group. Their menu is limited but what they make is very tasty. Staff is attentive. I have been on the search for a great brunch spot in Charlotte. The asbury has been on my list for awhile and I am so glad I had the chance to try it. Parking is limited but it is within walking distance of the CTC/Arena light rail station. Seating is also limited so I would recommend reserving a table. The mimosas were fabulous - we got the pitcher and it served 6 perfectly. For my meal I had the asbury breakfast stack and it was delicious! I can't wait to go back. read more
