came here with a group of friends on a friday night with the living social deal. the restaurant is clean and decorated nicely. we were awkwardly seated at a high table with something in the center that blocked our view from seeing each other. i guess it is good if you order a ton of food and need the space but even then it's above eye level and hard to see. i also wish those tables had bag hooks too since it's similar to bar seating. if you are going in a group i would recommend a different table. we ordered the smothered tots (of course) for an app. everyone enjoyed the meat that was on top. i would prefer the tots to be a little bit more crunchy. we also shared the chicken kara age which was excellent (fry anything and it tastes good, no?!). i tried a few pieces of sushi and then ordered the shio (chicken broth) ramen for myself. the tuna rolls had the mashed tuna rather than sliced pieces of tuna. not a fan of that. the ramen broth was bland. i really liked the charred charsu but i can see how a lot of people wouldn't like that burnt taste in the ramen because it takes away from the flavor. the portion size was just right. trinity was our server and he was great. attentive and really nice. i had a piece of plastic from the pork wrapper in my soup (whoops). i was told it was clean and just kept eating it. they comped that bowl. overall, a nice addition to the tysons area. worth the try. read more

If you're in the Tysons area and craving sushi, this place could be the stop for you! Although it's hard to find and overpriced, it has a good selection of different sushi styles, options, and specials. However, the Japanese ramen that they sell there is a huge miss. I got the chicken shio and for some reason, my broth tasted like burnt onion. I'm not even sure if it's even supposed to have burnt onion. I came around a 3:30 pm on a Friday and there were so little staff members, I had to wait in the front for about 5 minutes before someone noticed me since there was no one at the host stand. Their sushi is okay, the ramen is not good, and the service is mediocre. All in all, I don't think this place is worth the trip, especially with their overpriced items. read more

Disappointing. My husband is Japanese and we had been waiting for this ramen shop to open. Unfortunately, I completely agree with most of the yelpers. We got the karage and kizuna ramen and both were bland. Karage was decent but needed salt. Kizuna ramen was most disappointing. It was definitely overpriced for what you get. The broth is the most important part and could have been brown water it was so bland. The chashu was pretty decent. Noodles expand in the soup, so they are usually slightly undercooked when you put them in the broth so that they finish cooking when you start eating. Unfortunately the soup was luke warm, so the noodles didn't cook. 2 stars were because the decor is nice but the food was really disappointing so we won't be returning. Went in again to try the sushi and the sushi was good! Definitely a go! Also tried the waffle ice cream dessert in vanilla! So yummy!! Went in a third time for just a quick/easy local ramen and it was as it was the first time.. Just .. ok.... sigh.. Just needed a hot noodle soup since I felt like a cold coming on. Tried the mochi dessert and it was interesting... I got one of each flavors red bean/ green tea. But they tried to overdo it or something... Aside from a bunch of other food, I love Ramen that I've eaten in Japan. When I found this coupon in Living Social, My friend and I went to eat the Ramen. I had the Shoyu Ramen and she had the Kizuna Ramen. There was no corn in the dishes which was good. I like my Ramen to be authentic. My ramen had 3 pieces of Chashu and an egg, and the Kizuna Ramen had 4 pieces of Chashu and an egg. The ramen noodle was very good, it was very flavorful. The restaurant is very clean and the decorations was very modern and open. The only thing I didn't like about the restaurant was their lack of items on the menu. They didn't even have a sushi menu for us and the only thing on the big plastic menu was the Ramen noodle. If they had a sushi menu, they didn't show to us even after we asked. I'll preface this review with the fact that while I've been eating ramen in Northern Virginia for years, this is the first restaurant that convinced me to sign up for Yelp. Skipping any appetizers, I had the Kizuna ramen with an addition of corn. While the chashu and broth were satisfactory, they were lukewarm and the lack of broth for the amount of ramen left me unsatisfied. The egg yolk had already solidified by the time it reached the table, and the bean sprouts were old and stale. However, the noodles were cooked well. No complaints there. A minor detail - the staff also did not have hot tea "ready yet." Ridiculous for an Asian restaurant at 12 pm. I would not come here again. Waste of my time and stomach. Came here today to try out their Ramen. Big mistake. I tried their Kizuna ramen, it was one dimensional and bland. The chasu was overcooked and bitter. Noodles were spongy and definitely not fresh. So this is a review I somewhat abandoned & picked up after another visit so bear with me. For my first visit ever this is what our order looked like: Piggy inside-out roll, kizuna ramen (+black mushroom), teriyaki salmon. The restaurant overall has a nice ambiance & trendy aesthetic, with fresh orchids greeting you at the door. Came around 5:15 on a Friday. Not many diners at that time. We have a LivingSocial so no ordering off the happy hour menu but I'm still eyeing the smothered tots for next time. The piggy inside out roll comes out, eight pretty pieces in a line, waiting to devoured. The bacon on top isn't crumbled which was a pleasant surprise. There's a nice smoky flavor and just the faintest heat. One of the better rolls I've had that contains asparagus in it. (However the Ziggy Stardust roll @ Sushi Rock in Arlington still holds the top position). I really was not crazy about the ramen I had, which is kind of upsetting since its literally called Kizuna Sushi & Ramen. I had the Kizuna ramen which contained chashu & half a lava egg. The broth itself was the most disappointing part (it was overwhelmingly bitter) though the noodles weren't a high point either. Kizuna's redemption (for me anyways) came in the form of a Teriyaki salmon entree that was a generous portion of fish, & came with a salad which the dressing was flipping fantastic. I've since been back and have tried the fried brussel sprouts, tots, a few other rolls, and their wings. From the experiences I've had here I'd say its a pretty solid place for happy hour and innovative sushi rolls. They also have Maine Root soda which is a draw for me. My husband and I came here for dinner a couple days ago after getting a living social deal. I know there used to be another Asian restaurant here that went out of business but I was happy to see another restaurant open in its place. We both got the kizuna Ramen which was pretty decent. Neither one of us knows a lot about ramen but having tried "authentic" ramen for the first time, it was tasty. The service was great, our server was very attentive and polite. The only complaint I would have the ramen is that the broth is a bit greasy and on the sweeter side, maybe it's supposed to be that way? And the price point could be better consisting the bowl the ramen is served in is shallow and narrow at the bottom which makes me feel like I am not getting a large portion. For $15, the bowl should be wider at least . But the decor is nice and the service is wonderful. read more

Another great experience We were constantly asked "Is it okay?" And only one reply was eligible: "Better than okay." If we had to go to a restaurant every day, no doubt it would be at the top of the list. One word alone can describe Kizuna "DELICIOUS" My favorite: seaweed salad! Fresh, crisp, flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here after seeing the reviews. We had a decent sized party (with some toddlers) and were served in a timely manner with great service. We split a few appetizers with the table including seaweed salad, tots, dumplings and tempura brussel sprouts. I was pleased with all of them. We tried a variety of sushi rolls as well and I was impressed with the flavors. This place has great ramen. Avoid the sushi!!! Onto the review... We usually get the Kizuna ramen and a side bowl of noodles (only $2 extra) to split. Works well for us as I'm all about the noodles and he's all about the broth and pork. We do fight over the egg though! You have got to try the smothered tater tots. I could eat this as a meal alone. Wings were good too and takoyaki (if you like the chewiness of octopus). Like I said, avoid the sushi entirely - even basic/standard rolls are not great. I'm glad they advertised there, because I don't think I would have found Kizuna on my own (I avoid Rte 7 due to traffic, but luckily there is a "back way" there). Nice decor and atmosphere. Staff-- very friendly, but service pretty slow. The food did not take that long to come out, but it was hard to get server for drink refills and check. Drinks- full bar, including cocktails and sake, and sodas made with cane sugar. I had the "Light and Stormy" which was a small glass and much sweeter than I expected from a ginger cocktail. FOOD- We loved the "Smothered tater tots!" Excellent snack as we waited. Smoked barbecue, slightly spicy, and soy/scallion flavors. We ordered Miso Ramen and Kizuna Ramen. Neither of us had those styles of ramen before, so we weren't sure what to expect. They were very oily, which I understand is normal, but there was not very much broth (noodles uncovered) or flavor. I've been here a handful of times now, and all it does is make me crave it more. The broth, the fresh veggies, the noodles, the pork belly, ohmygoodness. I always add an extra lava egg because, well, lava egg. Be sure to ask for the chili oil and peppers to add if you like it spicy--it makes an already incredible bowl of ramen even more incredible! Service is always great, and I always enjoy a bottle (or two) of J-Pop with my meal. I shouldn't love it as much as I do, but it adds to the experience! Kizuna's ramen is solid and nice spot to hit if you're local. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen with extra noodles. The broth is hearty but not too rich or salty which is typically the pitfall of most ramen places. The noodles were fine, maybe slightly rubbery, but fine overall. I ordered extra noodles which ended up being a rather large order of noodles. Normally, I would welcome but the noodles that came with the bowl soaked up most of the broth. Perhaps the amount of broth was a bit low or the noodles were particularly exorbitant, but after I finished my noodles almost all of the broth were gone and I barely drank any of it! Thus I was stuck with a large cup of noodles but with little broth! I usually always end up too much broth so this was a bit of a surprise. Overall, it's nice to visit if you're local. My standard recommendation is Marumen around NoVA and I'm sticking by that. Yelp does offer $15 off for $30 meal if you check-in. My tab was $29.50 and $31.50 with tax but unfortunately, they would not honor the discount on the check-in. I would have appreciated a close enough call here but that's certainly within their right to reject it. read more

Since working in this area, I've been craving a great sushi spot, so I found this place on yelp. As always, I placed two orders of my favorite sushi on the menu, the Philadelphia roll. After taking my first bite, i found the sushi to taste ok. After eating another one or two more, I found that the sushi didn't taste fresh, left an unusual taste in my mouth and in fact, i noticed that one of my pieces looked old and not fresh at all. FYI, my review is just on their ramen. This new Japanese ramen restaurant is close to my workplace so I decided to give it a try yesterday for lunch. Yes, I agree, the decor and ambience are very nice. I ordered a basic ramen bowl with tonkotsu-broth. I usually do this to taste test the basic first: the broth, the men (noodle) and the condiments on top. I was pretty disappointed in all three: broth was bland, lacking bold flavor; men-noodle didn't have the 'koshi' and wasn't 'al dente chewy' what Japanese people call, 'shiko shiko.' And last but not least, I was shocked that a boiled egg (at least half!) wasn't even part of the standard topping :( I guess I have to continue going to the Fair Oaks Whole Foods for a better ramen experience! They said they were closing at 10:30pm so we ordered... there were 4 other groups inside but the employees started placing chairs on top of empty tables and began cleaning. Coating on tofu was not crisp either. Waste of $6. Ramen: I agree with other Yelpers about their Ramen. $15!! ramen barely had any noodle in it. I'm okay with their ramen broth being a bit on the bland side (less salty) but for $15, you'd think you'd at least get decent portion. I'd rather go to ramen place in Fairfax Wholefoods. Vegetable Curry: Menu says all the non-ramen items comes with salad and rice. This was listed under non-ramen section. it did not come with a salad. When I asked, was told this item does NOT come with a salad. Didn't want to argue over stupid salad so I let it go. Server didn't even bother to check the menu. Curry tasted exactly same as one of those 3-minute instant curry you get at H-Mart. Service: saw several servers standing around and we see them noticing us ready to order. Still, no one came by until we put our hands up and wave at them, smh. There are so many other places with better options as far as price, service, food taste, and etc. I don't see myself going back to this place any time soon. I had the Kizuna ramen today and it was average. I have tasted Ippudo in NY and Tokoyo Underground in DC so that is my level of comparison. Maybe a different item on the menu would have resulted in a different rating but for Ramen I was expecting more noodles and soup and less pork. If you like meat over noodles then the Kizuna Ramen may fit your preference. Also for $15, it's not a cheap lunch option. While I don't mind the extra cost, I would expect more flavor or portion. Lastly, I wish they had the spicy paste on the side to use instead of the Japanese spice container. I will try another dish next time and review again. read more

First off we came here on a Friday and there was no parking, had to park behind the restaurant parking area. I took my friends here for some Ramen since it was their either of them had tried it yet. We all ordered the toro toro toro with chicken. We had to ordered the source sauce on the side since the Ramen did not have much spice to it. There was an overload of chicken too much compared to the ratio of ramen. Also some of the chicken pieces were still raw. My family of 5 ate at Kizuna. I have 3 kids (ages 5-8), two of whom can be picky eaters, so I was a little nervous about taking them to eat Japanese food, however all three enjoyed their meals and liked the "new food" they tried. They liked the Chicken Karaage, which we got with the spicy sauce on the side. The kids missed out on the spicy sauce, but I didn't! We also enjoyed the crab mango stack, with very ripe, fresh mango... it was a well balanced combination. Then, we had some fantastic sushi rolls. The kids liked the California rolls while my wife and I had a specialty roll. Last but not least, we all shared some savory ramen (better than Pho in my opinion). It comes in a large bowl, but we asked for some small bowls so we could share. Although I expected this to be mostly for the grown-ups, it ended up being the favorite of my picky eaters. As for drinks, it was a rare treat to find my favorite beer on tap, Goose Island Matilda! Also, they must have ironed out the green tea situation, because my son who likes to try new things had some. I can't say enough about Kizuna. It has become our go to restaurant for sushi Sunday. But it's so much more than sushi. The ramen and shio broth is some of the best I've tried. Always a great selection of wine and beer including nitro beer. And of course the sushi. I love the chirashi bibimbap and every roll I've ever tasted. The decor is welcoming and modern. I had so many meals here! Their soy glazed chicken wings are amazing and the spinach salad with black bean sauce is also another must-try.
