Ah-mazing. Been coming here for their Metropolis beans since I moved to the city. Beans are always one or 2 day roasted. Absolutely fantastic. This time I got myself some Venezuelan golfeados and Venezuelan chachitos. Delicious. Won't go wrong with any of their baked goods. One of my roommates said he wanted to try this place so we walked here to check it out. They had a hand sanitizer station right at the door and another at the cashier. I saw pictures from here the baked goods that Klein's offers but I was a little disappointed to not see those baked goods today. It seems like a nice coffee shop to grab a quick bite as well. The staff is really nice and the prices for the tart I got was pretty reasonable. I heated up my tart and put ice cream on top which I really liked. The tart was really good and the Nutella wasn't overwhelming. I liked the pistachios on top as I love pistachios and it was good to give it a little salty taste on it. Love this bakery and coffee shop. They have really good cold brew and iced lattes. All of their pastries are incredible! We tried a handful of pastries and each were better than the last. We also have tried their croissant sandwiches (which are really big and filling) and their bagel sandwiches. Personally, I liked the croissant sandwich better as I am biased to NJ/NYC bagels. They have a great selection of pies and cakes that I can't wait to try next time. There is always a line but it moves quickly and is absolutely worth the wait. Looks like they also do personalized cake orders so I will definitely look into that for a friends upcoming birthday. They have some outdoor seating but more inside, feels very comfy and like you're in your friends kitchen. Highly highly recommend this place. read more

I feel like kleins is very hit or miss sometimes it's the best breakfast sandwich in the world and sometimes it's not worth eating. They can undercook the bacon which genuinely sometimes looks worrying. The pound cake is always good. Brownies aren't the best and the service could be a little friendlier. read more

I have visited this cafe several times, why am I being charged two different prices each time I purchased medium coffee, sometimes I am charged 4. 20 and 2. 80 for same sized coffee? I have also experienced racism from the staff, they were making fun of my skin and using the word yellow after I purchased my order. I was very uncomfortable. I was really excited when this place opened up really close to my apartment, because I ALWAYS need more places to get a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich. This place did not disappoint! This is a second location for Klein's - the first is about 20 blocks north on Broadway. They only have a few breakfast options - bagel sandwiches, croissant sandwiches, or grilled cheese (that you can put an egg on!). They do have LOTS if coffee options, and lots of pastries! I haven't tried the pastries, but I've gotten the bacon egg and cheese bagel twice and it was been delicious and HUGE each time. If you eat there, they give you a real plate and coffee cup (not disposable), which is a plus for me - environmentally friendly! It's a great spot to get some work done, as well. Free wifi, and the password is written on the wall, so you don't need to find an employee to give it to you. The front of the place has windows that open all the way up - if you can snag one of the two window seats, you can do some great people watching and get fresh air. There is an entire back section too, so plenty of room to stake out a space and work while drinking some coffee. A welcome addition to the neighborhood! read more

Doors open so it's freezing. Their iced tea is bitter and a pit bull/lab (possibly a mastiff? It weighed over 80 lbs) lunged at my dog twice, so I'm not returning. I asked for unsweetened iced tea due to my allergies (corn derivatives & sweeteners) so that tea had better have been unsweetened It's a cute place, but they need to make some improvements and super aggressive dogs need to be outside where they have outdoor seating!! The owner had no control over her enormous dog, so in the interest of safety I left with my dog before finishing my cookie. I wanted to stay apart from being freezing! Close your dog already. It's also super expensive! $8-12 for a small iced tea and a cookie. Pass on that. read more

Klein's is just outstanding. Have been there a couple times for just sandwiches and coffee and it has been the best. So far have avoided the temptation of the pastries, but that will not last. Prices are very reasonable as well, especially compared to other places in the area. (Note that the location on Diversey while in Lakeview, directly borders Lincoln Park.) Very friendly staff. Restful, laid back, unhurried store ambiance further enhances the experience. Highly recommended. Don't even think about going to those nasty, sterile chain places. read more

I was very exited to visit this location of Klein's Bakery as some years ago I visited their located on Broadway in Buena Park. I was not disappointed. First, their coffee and food are very good. I ordered a latte, golfeados, cachitos and a lox and cream cheese bagel sandwich. The latte was excellent. It's on par with any other independent coffee shop or bakery I've been to in Chicago. The lox and cream cheese bagel sandwich was good, but excellent. I'd order it again, but after I tried their bagel sandwiches. It is not as a "go to" item, but still good. I also enjoyed the unique Venezuelan pastries. To be fair, I don't have a much a context to compare them to, but I enjoyed both the golfeados and cachitos. Second, I loved the Venezuelan offerings. They have a great selection of baked goods, but what sets apart Klein's Bakery from other coffee shops or bakeries is the opportunity to try some foods that you can't find everywhere else. Third, they have a great outdoor space. They have a few outside tables covered by umbrellas. I went on a hot and sunny day, but their outdoor space was cool and shaded. It was a very pleasant experience. Fourth, they have nice interior decor. If you choose to eat inside, you will be please by their inviting space. Fifth and last, but not least, service was fast and friendly. Overall, this is a must visit coffee shop and in Lakeview. Their food is good and the over experience is pleasant. read more

I'm visiting Chicago to take my mother to pre-op appointments, and we didn't feel like a cooking breakfast today. She suggested Klein's for croissants based on a friends recommendation. I walked the block and a half to their Diversey location. Inside, there were a few comfy seats at the front window and along the wall. It's still the pandemic, and they had stickers on the floor where to stand b4 walking to the counter. There wasn't any plexiglass, but employees were all in masks, and the counter separated us by about 3 feet. This was my second outing since the pandemic started, and having been vaccinated fully, I felt safe. So, I was expecting a choice of croissants, but this is a Venezuelan bakery, and the only croissant was an almond one. They did have several pastries, and bakery 'sandwiches' (spinach and cheese in a flaky pastry etc). I chose the Venezuelan cachitos, a ham & cheese wrapped in what was similar to pretzel dough, but much thinner - wrapped like a crescent roll. It was REALLY good. I paired it with a fruit cup (watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes and a strawberry). They don't have decaf coffee, but they do have decaf espresso, and the decaf latte was delish. Mom had the almond croissant, a cheese pastry, and we shared a piece of the tres leches cake. The cake was pretty epic, but we both got sugar rushes with light heads after eating 2/3 of it! This spot is great. They have a wide range of options for coffee and sandwiches on their menu as well as many decently priced pastries. I love the wide open space of their cafe and while we were there they had the big front windows open. Even without windows open I believe the cafe is big enough to really space out. I got the ham and cheese pastry which was around $5, I loved it! It was huge, the edges were caramelized and it was chock full of creamy cheese and thinly sliced ham. One was enough for lunch. I also tried their alfajores which were soft, crumbly, and filled with soft caramel. I definitely recommend both items and will be back to try more. read more

Not sure where these "outstanding" reviews are coming from, but I really should have looked at the bad reviews first. This food was absolutely terrible. Ciabatta sandwich was just a ham sandwich with cream cheese and cold nasty, Kraft cheese singles. The "cachito" was a dry croissant with cream cheese and ham. To the owners; at least pretend this is a restaurant that attempts to sell restaurant quality food! I hate bad mouthing folks but I hate feeling cheated out of money too. Coffee is delicious. Now, as for the bagel and the bagel spread, I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. It was subpar, and for a bakery, I expected much more. As for customer service, nobody was charming or overly sweet. I felt like they just wanted--me to get the coffee and bagel and hit the road, and to paint a picture, it was slow in the bakery. The place was clean, and they do open the windows very cool, in my opinion. I don't think I would go back. But overall, it's a safe play to try. read more

I live nearby Klein's. I really wanted to like this place since it is close by, but the staff is not friendly. I have been here several times and many times I am waiting while the cashier won't even acknowledge that I am standing there. It is very uncomfortable. The service is very slow. I've waited more than 10 minutes for a latte when there have only been 1 or 2 other customers.Don't ask then to warn your crossiant bc that will take another 10! I ducked in from the rain today around 1:30 pm. I was greeted with a smile and it never fails how kind I have always been treated despite not being a hipster or a regular customer. I tried a turkey cheese cochita. At first bite, it was so fresh and tasty, not stale as you would expect at someplace when you have some type if savory pastry in the afternoon. I was afraid I had ordered the wrong thing because I thought it. was ham at first. I was kindly assured that it was smoked turkey. The person who took care of me verified it with a coworker without any problem or hesitation. I enjoyed the rest of the cochita with delight and headed back out to continue my journey home. By the way, at another time last month, I enjoyed a slice if pumpkin pie! You should try it before they run out. Thank you for using quality products, serving fresh products and knowing how to treat a customer who just placed a simple order! I liked this place a lot when it first opened. I was happy to find a not too crowded, place to come where I could talk with friends. But the last two times I've been there the large TV is playing loud music and it is very distracting. Last time I was in there, there were only a couple other tables full, and they were mostly trying to look at their computers, and wearing headphones, so no one but the guy behind the counter really enjoying this music. I asked the gentleman behind the counter if he could turn it down, and his reply was that he had already turned it down once. So it remained loud, I guess he can't take a hint. Or doesn't care if he's the only one enjoying music. I haven't been back with my friends since. Coffee and food is good maybe get a takeout. read more

My daughter has been bringing treats from Klein's to our house ever since she moved to the neighborhood and we have enjoyed them so much! Especially the little key lime tarts. We were finally able to try it in person when we had breakfast there after the Run for the Zoo, and I was happy to be able to bring my puppy in and dine outside with her. We all got some version of an egg on croissant sandwich and we were all very happy with our food. The croissants are buttery and tender. I also had an iced lavender vanilla latte that was delicious and refreshing. I saw a customer carry out an impressive looking cake with donuts decorating it. I wish I had gotten a closer look at it.
