My wife ordered a Hot turkey sandwich. All of our food was cold, didn't get a refill of coffee or water!! Worse service I have received in a long time. Waitress gave the wrong food to a table and about a minute later realized and came back and got the food and brought it over to the correct table and sat it down and then said they didn't touch it but I can have it redone if you would like. Never asked how our food was or anything not even when we paid. Bad service throughout.. Will not be back. read more

I have only been for breakfast, but have gone well over a dozen times. I love their old school fresh squeezed orange juice machine. Best OJ in all of Seattle and Tacoma. I have had a few different items on the menu, but the eggs benedicts are my go to. The hollandaise isn't truly housemade otherwise I would give this place 5 stars. Ordered a biscuits with gravy and sausage dish that normally came with eggs but since I cannot ingest eggs due to allergy the chef added extra sausage. The gravy was smooth and flavorful as were the excellent sausage and hash browns. Tasty coffee also. Waitress was charming and friendly. This use to be one of our favorites in Tacoma Procter area. Recent menu changes have made it so we will not be returning. The posted menu is inaccurate. Many of our favorite items have been removed and the prices on most items have almost doubled. No salad or soup with dinner options (but the price is higher). In the past you could substitute potato salad for fries, baked potato for mashed, and soup or salad was always included in the dinner entrees. Now everything is an up charge on an already over inflated menu price. Go back to the old menu and increase the menu prices to a reasonable amount. read more

I have been going there for years. Service from employees that has been there for years is great. Food prices had always been on the higher side especially for a neighborhood diner. I still visited many times for the friendly atmosphere. Restaurant is changing though. Even higher food prices now. New manager I heard. $21.99 for chicken parmesan! Prices are higher than the nearby fine dining Italian restaurant. Is their chicken parmesan that good or they don't want anyone to order it? Perhaps the onion rings for $9.99 is a better choice. Dont forget the soda for $4.99. Just make sure to ask what makes their soda special before you hand them your card. What is happening to the nice neighborhood diner? Okay, my fiancé and I have been coming to breakfast here for a while... until now. Last weekend we came to Knapps for a typical breakfast and, instead, experienced a stomach-turning violation of health codes. To be short: DON'T DRINK THE FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE! To elaborate: An older gentleman from the kitchen came out to disassemble the juicing machine. At first, I was turned off that he was taking the rotating juicers apart with his bare hands and tossing them in a bucket... questionable health standards for sure, but what happened next made that child's play. Upon reassembling the juicers HE DROPPED THEM ON THE FLOOR, PICKED UP THE DROPPED PARTS, AND PUT THEM BACK IN THE MACHINE. Didn't miss a beat. The EXACT part that applies pressure to the tender flesh or your orange to deliver you delicious fresh-squeezed OJ, was laying on the scody tile and area carpet. We'll never return. I feel it is unfortunate this restaurant has so many negative reviews. It makes me wonder what the expectations of the reviewers were. It is pretty obvious what kind of restaurant you are entering as you walk in the door. I live nearby and drop in often. I have never, ever had bad service by the ladies who work there. They are friendly and quick, in fact they are a lot of fun, rather entertaining. They remember names of regulars and chat with them as if they were friends. The food is the kind of food served at this type of restaurant. Once again, this must be obvious when you walk in the door. My experience is usually breakfast or lunch. I personally have never had a meal I would call mediocre. It is just basic good fare at a reasonable price. If you want a dish with a clever name at much higher prices try Babs across the street. Or go on down to the Lobster Shop where the food is gourmet, the waiters well dressed and sophisticated, and the prices very high, a favorite of mine, incidentally. If, however, you choose to go to Knapp's and it doesn't meet those standards why give it a bad review? Go somewhere else, don't attempt to turn people away based on your bias. Just saying. I live right down the street from this place and have eatin there about 5-10 times over the last four years. I gave the establishment 2 stars as an average, the restaurant is a good solid three. Nothing spectacular, but better than IHOP or Denny's and its locally owned so I appreciate that. The bar gets a one star but thats only due to the fact that you can not give it a 0. I went in here last Sunday with a few friends. Sat down, waited ten or twelve minutes for a server even though there were only two other tables occupied and two servers. The server came over and proceeded to one word us to death. "ID." Gave her ID. "Drinks?" This is where we threw her a curve ball, even though it was obvious that she didn't care at all if we ordered something or not. I asked her what she had on tap, deserves more than a one word answer right? Nope. "Nothing." This lady was a real charmer. I waited for her to give me a bit more, and she just stared at me. I then asked what she had in bottles. She rattled off every domestic that is not local, (at least she gave more than one a word answer there) plus Heineken and Mirror Pond. Proceeded to stand there looking around as if the two other tables were going to get up and walk off if she didn't run back over and ignore them like she was ignoring us. We all ordered one beer, watched while she went behind the bar and stood there for a good ten minutes before she asked the bartender to get her the four bottles of beer. She then cracked some jokes with the other server, went and sat down with some "locals" at another table. I LIVE UP THE FREAKIN STREET! And then rolled her butt back over to our table. She then asked if we wanted a tab or pay out then, I believe her words were, "Tab," pause "Cash." I said cash me out. Needless to say we were done with our beers long before she came back and were more than happy to get out of there. Long story slightly short, she might have been the worse waitress ever. I wish I would have gotten her name. When I think local bar I think friendly, like the North End Tavern across the street, this was anything but and I would never go back to the bar and maybe never the restaurant. The Old Milwaukee on 6th is at least twice as good for breakfast anyways. read more

Came here yesterday for breakfast. Walked in and wasn't greeted with a warm welcome, just a "how many?" and the woman had a super agitated tone. We sat down and place our orders. I ordered the French Toast combo which comes with 4 pieces of French toast, 1 egg, and 2 pieces of sausage or bacon. I asked for sausage, but they gave me bacon. I didn't want to make a big deal so I didn't say anything since I was ok with having bacon instead. I tried the bacon and it was so hard! It was burnt and tasted awful, I didn't even touch the 2nd piece. The egg was alright and was unfortunately the best thing about the meal. The French toast was very dry so I had to drown it in syrup. It was practically flavorless and it didn't even have any cinnamon in it. Like who doesn't put cinnamon on their French toast? They brought our check 5 minutes after they brought us our food, which was very rude and it made me feel like we were being asked to leave. When we got up to pay our bill at the front, our waitress followed us to the front and checked us our herself. Kinda made me feel like she didn't trust us to pay the bill? I fucking love this place. First of all, our server was amazing. I didn't catch her name, but she was a sweet peach, she had short hair with a little blonde pony tail. She's beautiful, fuckin bartender goals! We came in with a rowdy crowd of 6 for brunch/breakfast, and she killed it. Food was hot and delicious, she made sure to keep our drinks full, and she made sure to bring all the extras (sauce, waters, toast). I will go back solely in hopes that I have this sweet lady as my server and whoever cooked our food as my chef. French toast was wicked-perfect amount of cinnamon, hash browns were crispy AF, and the food came out perfect with all of our crazy modifications. Unfortunately, we will never go to knap's again. we were not greeted when we arrived and people who came in after us were seated before us Several folks who were seated 20 minutes after us received their food before us, ate and actually paid before we got anything.After one hour and no communication from the wait staff we actually got up and left. Knapp's is a sad example of a restaurant that appears to be everything you're looking for from the outside, but nothing that you're for on the inside. Knapp's would have you believe that is a family owned, home kitchen style restaurant with values to match. Not so much! The food and service couldn't be further from what it seems to be. Our server took her time coming to our table (about 7 min.). Our breakfast was less than stellar!! I make better pancakes with Bisquick at home. They were rubbery and tasted like batter. This place is a Pacific Northwest institution! Love to time travel back to here. It ruminates my experience growing up here in the Puget Sound Region... Great genuine small town, hometown local service and great food! I was here in March (2016) with a large group for a meeting and the staff was so very gracious, helpful, and exceptionally good hosts! Personally, I love going here because this wonderful neighborhood has such a great local feel and Knapp's is so adorably part of that old school PNW tradition friendly. If you are looking for a delicious and hearty breakfast (in a local diner - nothing fancy) - I would highly recommend this place. Our service was very friendly (by Teresa) and the food was plentiful, very well cooked, and very fresh. My daughter had an omelette that had almost more thick cut bacon than eggs and fresh avo. It was delicious. It came with hash browns (freshly made and not greasy) and some other thing I can't remember - for $12 bucks. :) My other daughter had a strawberry waffle which had LOTS of strawberries (frozen) and whipped cream. She's a kid - she was stoked. Fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious too. I ate lunch here today and had the hot open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was pretty good, however not as warm as it should have been. I also had a salad with it with blue cheese dressing and crumble and it was delicious. I went with a group of four and the total bill didn't break the bank and everyone was full and happy. A very lackluster bar. Extremely dark, smells slightly of urinal cakes, but a pleasant crowd. Oldie songs will augment your stay, depression will set in, not the bad kind, the kind that makes you feel albeit you wasted your life, it's not too late to be the parent you knew you ought to have been. The kind of place you go to to receive advice from an old timer "don't loose the woman like I did, go get her".
