First time going to any Kneaders. Had the southwest bbq salad. The salad was good would of liked red onions on it. Chicken was good sized and there was enough of it on my salad. I tried the French dip sandwich also and it was good too. The bread on the French dip was a little hard and hard to bite through. Did the order over app. And it made pick up really easy for me. The restaurant was busy. But I feel like the employees should still take care in actually listening to what a customer orders. My husband ordered me a Turkey croissant sandwich plain with extra Mayo. They literally gave us a chicken salad sandwich and also charged us for a chicken salad sandwich. Sounds NOTHING like what my husband ordered, and unfortunately he was trying to get home in a snow storm so didn't have a chance to check the order before leaving- as he usually would. So, I don't typically give such crappy ratings but this was the second chance and this location struggles. Last week I went there and got french toast at the drive through. It was no good. It didn't seem to be cooked and was mushy in spots. However, I gave them a second chance. Today I got a turkey artichoke Panini. I don't know if these guys know what a Panini is or what it's even supposed to look like. The sandwich wasn't even warm, the cheese inside isn't even melted and the turkey and artichokes are cold not even lukewarm. The bread itself is super think and barely has marks on it, This isn't even the bread it is supposed to be made on. The sandwich is about 2 1/2 inches thick. When it shouldn't even be close to that.... both of the purchase were made through the drive through and I didn't want to bother going back. I don't think I'll be going back to this location. In my mind, I'd been to Kneaders plenty of times before. Between all of the Paneras, Paradises, Atlanta Bread Cos and the like, I was so positive that I'd tried them out. And yet.. There I was, walking into the place tonight, and I realized I have never once set foot in a Kneaders before. So what sets them apart from all the others? It's tough to say for sure. I do know that they seem to be a bit heavier on the baked goods department. Lots of brownies and treats and cookies. Plenty of breads and crusty things for sale. But the food menu is actually kinda simple. Just a bunch of sandwiches and paninis. I had the turkey on asiago cheese bread. It's tough to go wrong with asiago bread, and they didn't disappoint. The sandwich was also pretty hefty and had real chunks of turkey (not that sliced stuff) so bonus points as well. It was $7 for the whole one and probably about right on the value/money. It didn't really knock my socks off--nothing too creative. But good ingredients and reasonable prices, as well as a non-burger-fastish-food option sounds good to me. Went back to Kneaders today after talking with the manager. He promised to make it right and pay for our lunch if we came back. I ordered the French dip sandwich again and chicken noodle soup. Both were much better than last time and the sandwich had three slices of meet, a two slice increase over last time! The soup was good and the cookie I had for desert was perfect. For the last 5 years I've been going to Kneaders to get the raspberry cream cheese croissant. Today when I called, I found out that all locations have stopped selling this croissant and it's been replaced by a cherry Greek yogurt one? I'm so sad about this, I literally have to find a completely new bakery to go. I do not like cherry and do not like the taste of Greek yogurt. I wonder why this kneaders location is SO inconsistent with quality, especially when using the drive thru. This is the large green avocado salad, more like lotsa BROWN avocado salad. I highly doubt this brown scraped mess would be handed to a dine in customer. Some of the greens were slimey, yucky danger zone for me! I dont think I'll be returning to this location anytime soon. Their salads always disappoint, and the dressings can be questionable. Another note: soup was watered down. I was so angry tonight when I visted this location. I went in to buy their signature cinnamon bread and caramel syrup. I found the syrup on the basket making hutch and the bread on the rack near the register. A young lady informed me that the syrup couldn't be sold. The manager was saving it to make gift baskets. If they have an item out for sale I should be able to buy it. I can't imagine turning away a sale. 3 different associates were quick to tell me NO you can't buy it. This place has gone downhill. I have received a few questionable meals from Kneaders, but my most recent order prompted me to write a review. I ordered a sandwich with avocado, and the avocado was black and completely inedible. The lettuce in my side salad was slimy and had a terrible odor. It's really a pastry/sandwich shop reasonably common in Salt Lake City. This is such a great place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. This location is always busy and sometimes difficult to find seating during their breakfast hours. It's always fun to order inside though because they often have samples of various breads and sometimes jams or butter choose from while waiting for your order. I also enjoy their ever changing crafty, home style decor (which is for sale, but pricey). They offer an endless French Toast breakfast which is perfect for satisfying a craving for rich, sweetness. I love how thick the cinnamon bread is that they use for the French Toast. They provide freshly sliced strawberries, whipped butter cream, along with a rich, sugary syrup to top your toast with. Even though the portions are limitless it's hard to get past the second serving because it ends up being quite rich and filling. The turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich on focaccia bread is my favorite. I recommend that you get a side of honey mustard to go with it to significantly enhance the flavor. (Or request some other condiment to add to it, otherwise it can seem a bit dry). The turkey is also always fresh and not a processed, sliced deli meat. I also enjoy their selection of desserts that are perfect for grabbing something sweet when on the go. I recommend the fruit tart. They always seem to provide you with great service and you never have to wait very long to get your order which is really nice even when it's super busy. read more

Soup was really salty and lacked richness ...tasted kind of lumpy like there was too much thickener and no cream. Turkey on the salad was in one large clump. Avocado was sparse. Greens were average and there seemed to be little thought in making it tasty. Thai salad was ok. Both of us needed Imodium a few hours after eating. The service was bad. No flatware and no napkins were provided. Drive through was REALLY slow even though there was only one car in front of me and the place was nearly empty. Took a while for the cashier to acknowledge I was at the drive through even though I asked several times if anyone was there. Even after the cashier acknowledged me, it was a long wait before he asked for my order. The person before me in the drive through also had a long wait at the speaker. I'm very sorry to say this Kneaders location is going down in quality and service. Today I got the wrong salad I ordered. When I opened the container a lot of the lettuce was brown and the turkey had large dried out hard pieces. The previous 2 salads also had brown lettuce. Then the last several orders of brownies have been hard and crumbly. Not good at all. I tossed out almost half my salad today and I tossed out most of the brownies I ordered a few weeks ago. I keep giving them an excuse because of thile Covid lockdown, but if I'm still paying the same amount I feel the quality should be the same. Regardless, my order should be correct every time. I used to go here often, but I will rethink this. I cant afford to toss out bad food that I paid good money for. EXPENSIVE for what you get! Our two sandwich order was incorrect when we got home! This is not the first time! We're done with Kneaders!!

We've had problems several times with online orders. Most recently, we selected curbside pickup, texted in when we got there, and no one came out. After 20 minutes, we went inside the empty restaurant to inquire about the order as the store was going to close. The employee doing online orders was sitting on her phone. When another employee asked if she'd checked the online orders recently, she said no. The employee eventually got up to finish putting the order together. When we got home, we realized we were shorted several pastries, one of the sandwiches had rotting lettuce on it, and one sandwich basically had not meat on it. When I called the manager the next day to express my concerns, he said his employees were too busy to do their He also didn't offer a refund for the items we ordered and didn't receive. read more

Big thick pieces of shredded turkey with artichoke hearts, yes please! Skip the onions on this one, otherwise it's covered in them. Kneaders bakes all their own breads and goodies. I try to use the drive thu when I come just to avoid the counter of baked goods - otherwise I end up with several eclairs, sugar cookies and who knows what else. I ordered brown sugar chocolate chunk cookies through Ubereats from Kneaders on Friday and the cookies they sent were so undercooked - they looked really raw and tasted the raw cookie dough batter. I actually had to put the cookies in the oven for 15 minutes to get them cooked! They charge 4 dollars per cookie too ! I got my money back from Uber which was nice BUT the staff at Kneaders are really hopelessly inconsiderate. When I talked to the lady on the phone about the undercooked she was so casual about it - didn't even apologise when I told her how this could be a health and safety hazard. I Also had stomach cramps and diarrhoea a day later. BEWARE : Lazy staff and inconsiderate staff at Kneaders. Over priced food at the risk of getting sick. Also, the last few times I've visited they have been out of what I wanted to order. I was very disappointed when I visited this location. It is not on par with others. I arrived 5 minutes after they opened on a Friday morning. I stood at the register for 5 minutes before being greeted. I almost left. I ordered a sandwich and coffee. The coffee station was disgusting. The floor was sticky. There was no cream. When I asked for it, they seemed very put out. The walls are stained with spilled drinks. The walls have chips with missing paint. It seemed like an unclean, unfriendly place. After having worked 5 nights in a row at the hospital, the LAST thing I wanted to do was cook so I ordered Door Dash. It's an order we have made before and it's a simple one. A large green avocado salad with spinach, 2 turkey bacon avocado sandwichs, no sauce, onions or tomatoes, 2 eclairs and a fruit tart. Easy peasy right? Not tonight I guess. Despite the details being on the reciept TAPED TO THE BAG....there were no eclairs and no fruit tart. Then as I'm adding mayo to the sandwiches I notice that one has lettuce no cheese and the cheese no lettuce.. WTF they should be identical. Very disappointed because in the past they had good quality at this particular store. And before you start on the door dash part, it's not the delivery drivers responsibility to check the orders I don't want a stranger going through my food. I've lived in the City of Salt for almost a year and have been recommended that I should eat at Kneaders a handful of times. So 11 months later, I obliged and went with some of my colleagues for lunch. I walked in the door and was immediately overwhelmed with the interior. For such a small RESTAURANT there was a lot of floor space devoted to non restaurant items. The whole divider between the line and the dining area was filled with knick-knacks that I feel like I could only find in a Utah fast casual restaurant. Fast-casual doesn't seem like the right segment to try to pull a Cracker Barrel and have a country knick-knack store, not when your restaurant is just barely 3000 sq ft with a kitchen. Its just crowded. They could have fit 3 or 4 two tops in that same space and with their crowded dining room it was needed. I found ordering to be difficult to prepare for as I approached the register. There were no paper menus to prep me as I approached and the menu boards were feet behind and above the registers. I don't have great eyes but I don't wear glasses and it was hard to choose till I was about one person away from ordering. I always get perturbed by folks that get to the register and don't know what they want and I really do my best to not be "that guy." Finally, the food... the thing that everyone else seems to Yelp about. I honestly enjoyed the food. I'm a fan of sandwiches, delis, bakeries, etc etc. I ordered their Kneaders Club I think. It was on sourdough, had turkey, ham and beef. The quality of the meat was very good. I couldn't clearly see if they cut it on site but it seemed like fresh cut quality. If they do carve their meats on site they should advertise that as some of us appreciate the attention to detail. The bread was wonderful. My colleague's sandwich bread looked great too. I think they bake on site and it shows in the freshness. The sandwich had a creamy pesto that was delicious also. I had a side of soup. I believe they had about 4 to choose from when I was in. I had the Potato Bacon soup. I'll be honest, anything that has bacon is top notch to me. It was a hearty creamy soup. The ingredients were fresh and it didn't taste like they poured Campbells into a pot. If I could add to it I would have topped it with a garnish, possibly some chives or a dash of shredded cheese. It would visually add to the appeal. My colleague had some Kettle brand chips, boring but good quality chips. I also bought a Cannoli, a German Chocolate Brownie and a Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie. The Cannoli was pretty good, but it wasn't terribly fresh. The German Chocolate Brownie was fresh, moist and very full of flavor. The Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie was just dry, its too bad because I really enjoy pumpkin anything. And after eating the desserts, a sandwich and soup I was forced to run 8+ miles that night to work it all off. I'd go back. Its a toss up if I'd go here more than Jason's Deli or Corner Bakery. I'm sure its allure is that its a local brand (for better or worse). If I could recommend them to do something is to lay off on the knick-knacks. There was a day when I subsisted often on the turkey cranberry salad from Kneaders. It's a fairly light choice in an otherwise carb-heavy menu. It comes with a slice of bread, and I always got the 7-grain. And that's really all I can recommend. The baked goods? Fine enough. Brownies, cookies, and cakes that are all cloyingly sweet and loaded down fats to the point of being leaden. I've never had anything offensive, mind you, but there's not much here that stands out from your average grocery story bakery. I have, however, had more than one rude, uncommunicative, and downright confrontational teenager take my order here, though. And the constant wearing on me of thinking "hey, I haven't had a turkey cranberry salad/oh, but I'll have to deal with the employees" eventually turned me off. It never changed, even of the course of years, but my desire to put up with the unhelpful employees as my barrier to entry did. So, no more Kneader's for me. This place is funny. It's kind of a fast food chain store bakery but local...ish. They are still locally headquartered and only branch out to 47 shops in a handful of western states. I will give them this, it's a higher end space aiming for cozy shop feel. The menu is very diverse to please just about any customer and their breads are all super tasty. But generally they are utilizing fast food techniques to make hot food quickly. From what research I have done they seem to use generally good ingredients especially veggies but there are still a lot of classic bleached flours and ultra processed baking ingredients. The sweet breads and breakfast sandwiches are a perfect morning grab and go and the service is very friendly and helpful with any questions... PLUS the breaky sammis are made on croissants!... yum! So all in all if I'm in a place that is surrounded by box stores and chain restaurants this would win. If I'm back in Portland surrounded by amazing eateries with no chain store for miles I would chose the more local joint with fresh local ingredients and no additives. read more
