This place was alright. Nothing special. We were craving sandwiches and our first thought is always Schlotzsky's- we wanted to try something new this time. We saw this place across the street from Schlotzsky's and decided to give it a try. The sandwich was cold through and through (it's supposed to be) but the bread was cold and kind of tough, like it was in the fridge? Idk but a cold sandwich even at Schlotzsky's has either toasted bread or room temp bread not cold. The broccoli cheddar soup was fine- I didn't even finish it. My intention was to upgrade my soup to a bigger size but they said I couldn't do that, I'd have to order a bigger size on the side. That was interesting. So I ordered a combo with chips and ordered a medium bowl of soup which was an extra 8 dollars. So for my sandwich and side of soup, it was about 19 dollars. It was alright. Overall I'd prefer Panera. Broccoli cheddar soup was on same level as Panera but the turkey bacon avocado was ehh. My wife ordered a berry pecan salad that was good but was $15.50. After tax our food for two was $39. That's crazy to me. If I'm paying 40 dollars for a sandwich, chips, bowl of soup, and a salad, at least present it well. It was on plastic cafeteria plates with the salad in a plastic container like Whataburger. My soup was in a to go container as well. The vibe was off for a 40 meal. Also, the store was cluttered. I also ordered the cilantro dressing but I wasn't a fan of the two of them together (my choice, I wouldn't do them both together again) I also ordered a fruit tart and was very underwhelmed by it. I have to say, I really like the food here. The recipes are great. But they need better coordination to get the food out. I saw my food and other customers' food just sitting there. The girl that eventually brought the food was stocking straws, or just walking around looking, instead of being dedicated to getting the food out. The only time they start bringing out the food is when the counter is too crowded with orders. Thus my food was not warm and it was less enjoyable. Being solicited for money is uncomfortable and intrusive, especially first thing in the morning . The staff today was inhospitable and inefficient. I ordered 3 ready made items from the bakery window. 10 minutes later I asked why it's taking so long and was told, in an annoyed and unfriendly tone, that "it's first come first serve". I felt scolded for asking about my order. So, I just sat there like an idiot and watched the two girls pack and serve huge order after order. How hard would it have been to grab a cookie and a croissant and have me on my way , the order had already been paid. Their lack of hospitality, and lack of sense of urgency was a total turn off. The eclair was spot on, with a custard that wasn't too cloying in sweetness or thickness (this can be difficult to find), and we also enjoyed a clever cactus cookie: a sugar cookie with a touch of cardamom that was unexpectedly tasty. Again, a perfect balance of sweet to flavor. The offer Mighty Leaf teas (a personal fave) and the coffee was warm and fresh -- a neat trick for late afternoon. Highly recommended also are the fruit tartlets, and they had a novel take on bread putting, which had chocolate chips in it. While we did have to wait a bit for our order, it was not overly long, and the staff was friendly.
