Use caution when getting work done in this place. Honesty is not something they are familiar with. I ask them if they can work in the transmission of my ford explorer and they say yes. What they did is they send my car out to another place where they did the work(needless to say that place was worth than Kobar's) they give me a 12 month warranty and 13 months later the transmission failed. 3K USD wasted on this people!! read more

Took my wife's Honda Odyssey in for a timing belt and several other items. Dealer estimated over $1400 and Kobars charged less that $800. Will continue using them. I was referred by a friend, his kid took a car there for a welding job. They quoted $250 for a suspension welding repair. He came back and they told him the job was allot easier than they initially thought and only billed him $75. If that isn't an honest mechanic, I don't know what is. read more

Several visits, 3 different vehicles. I would never trust them again. One car had to have all the repairs they performed re-done at the dealer. Three times something did not work or there was damage, one was so obvious it was caused by them but they would not except responsibility. Cost us $500 bucks. read more

I have taken my 2000 Camaro to Kobar's Auto for the past few years, and have always been happy with the service. I took my car to a quickie oil change place one or twice, only to have them tell me I needed some work done on the car before they could even do the oil change. For a second opinion, I took my car to Kobar's, only to find out that I didn't need that done, but something else. One time on a trip to California, my car started acting funny and making a weird sound, so I took it to a nearby auto shop (pretty sure it was a Maaco), who told me I needed a new transmission for $3000. I called Kobar's for an opinion, and they said they thought I was safe to make the trip home. I got home, brought my car in to them, they changed the fluids, and told me that was all that needed to be done. Having had several experiences with Kobar's, I trust that they are not telling me I need work done on my car that is unnecessary just to get money. I used to live about 5 minutes away from Kobar's, but now live in Paradise Valley, and even now, I wait til I have a day off work and drive about a half hour over there to have them service my car. Only place I will take my car as long as I live in the valley! read more

Kobar's on Gilbert Rd. is outstanding. I went in with a transmission oil drip. They diagnosed and fixed the same day. Also had an intermittent oil pressure gauge trouble. Again diagnosed and fixed promptly. Gene and John are always friendly. Will definitely keep using them and referring new customers to them. read more

This evening, Friday just after 4:00pm, I called Kobar's saying my check engine light was on. They told me to bring in my SUV and they would run a diagnostics. I live walking distance, so I drove it over and walked back. 45 mins later I get a call saying it was just a broken engine hose that they repaired without charging me, I only paid for the diagnostic. When I asked about getting a tune-up because I've never had one in the 5 years I'd had the SUV, the owner explained I didn't need one unless it was running badly, that spark plugs are made to last 100K. I was so impressed with this man's honesty. I heard about him at the nearby Discount Tire. While getting new tires I asked a customer there if he knew any auto care shops nearby. He recommended Kobar's and now I know why. Honest folks. read more

Shortly after getting my vehicle back my issue began again. Slowly but surely it was as bad as before. I garaged my car and when I had the money for worst case scenario fix, I jacked her up and took a look for myself. Everything looked fine at first, I diagnosed my issue as a faulty rack an pinion. So I cleaned myself up and got online and ordered the part. The next day I went to my garage, grabbed a wrench, and got under the car to check exactly the size wrench i needed. I put the wrench up to the first bolt holding my rack and pinion in and once the wrong sized wrenched tapped the bolt, it turned. I put the wrench down and took a short video. The video consisted of me turning 2 bolts by hand with extreme ease. I was furious, I payed good money to get everything fixed and aligned. I removed all 4 bolts, and then undid the tie rod ends as well as the steering column. Took roughly 20 minutes. I looked at the bushings that were "replaced". 1 seemed to be fine, which was the only one you can see if you just peek under the car. The other bushing on top was DESTROYED. Obviously the original. I took that out, set it aside. Before I get much further I will admit I had a decent sized power steering fluid leak. Fast forward a few days, my rack arrived. I installed her, measured my wheel base and got her as aligned as possible to make the 3 mile drive to Kobars as they agreed to align the car for free. I told them what had happened once I showed up in detal and they were animate about them replacing all the bushings and that once the rubber is gone, the bolts will loosen up as they did in my video. The employees response was "we arent sure how many bushings were replaced". The problem with that is if you are doing the job, do it right. Dont do a half ass job so i can come back and then tell me what the real issue is. I am not just some 22 year old kid. My father is an Engineer and I myself am an ASE certified mechanic and going to school as a mechanical engineer. That being said, i also work full time and didnt have time to work on the car myself and my whole family vouched for your work and thats why I went to this horrid place. The bushings did infact have rubber, BUT, there was a metal cylinder the rubber went around that was flush with the front and back of the cylinder. If the bolts WERE tightened, the lack of rubber would still not allow the bolts to back off because the pressure was being applied to the metal cylinder. They also stated that after a few short weeks that the power steering fluid ate through the rubber. I have the bushing, and I will say, its dry as a bone. After I called them on the BS lie, they said "do you want the alignment or not? I backed off to get my free alignment. But Kobars.. Be warned, I could have taken legal action for putting my life in danger, but I havent. You could have been upfront and said you made a mistake. You may have thought I am a child, but not everyone my age is gullible. You may own a shop, but that does not mean I know less than any mechanic there. If anyone reads this, beware, this place is shady and the rest of my non mechanic family will be taking business elsewhere and I hope others will do the same. Work at that low quality should never be done anywhere. read more

Clutch and flywheel replaced on my Infiniti G35. Thinking i would to the job myself, I had purchased the OEM clutch kit and flywheel for about $1,000 less what Infiniti/other shops were charging for the parts. I don't have a lift and decided that I'd have a shop do the job. I checked around and few shops would install my parts and those that would charged outlandish labor (i would accept a reasonable markup on labor to offset lost profit on parts) and/or spoke to me in a "i'm going to have our least experienced mechanic do your clutch since you are not allowing us to make money off of parts" tone of voice. I found two shops in phoenix that i felt comfortable with and who would do the job for about the same price as kobar's. I was actually leaning towards one of the Phoenix shops because they are known to do a lot of work on infinitis. in the end i chose Kobar's based on prior reviews, convenience and my desire to support local gilbert business. They were able to get me in on short notice and did the job in about 3 hours! I believe Infiniti charges 6 shop hours for similar job. I've have no issues and car drives as it should. I had Kobar's replace my timing belt and water pump recently. An engine light came on after the repair so I took it back to them and found that the timing belt had slipped. They redid the job, replaced the timing belt again, replaced a tension pulley and double-checked the whole thing for me without a charge. I expected them to guarantee their work and they did. No whining, no fees and they had it done in 24 hours. I have used them for years and have had nothing but great experiences. They are true honest professionals and I would recommend them to anybody. read more

After $2,000 worth of repairs and 5 days in the shop, my car still does not run. I was originally told on Monday that it would take 2 days to repair and that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. I called them on Tuesday to check on the status, and they said it would be done on Thursday. I called on Thursday, and they said it would be done on Friday. They waited until 5:00 on Friday (an hour before they closed) to tell me that I also needed a new battery and an alternator. Of course, it was too late for them to fix it that day, but they said that my car would run until I could get it back into the shop to get a new alternator. As I was driving my car the next day, the air conditioner stopped running, the turn signals stopped working, and it wouldn't go over 45 miles per hour. Luckily, I was able to make it back home before it completely shut down. None of that was a problem before I took it to Kobar's. I would hate for anyone to have as awful an experience with this company as I have had and that is why I am posting this here. read more

In June 2014, Kobars installed a new fuel pump with sending unit. A month after driving the car, I went back to Kobars to explain that something was wrong. My fuel gauge was indicating low on gas when in fact I had 6-9 gallons left in tank. Jean and mechanic advised not really an issue, just means you have more gas left in tank. They did nothing more to resolve and make me feel confident that all was ok. Shortly after, my gas gauge stopped working, I used trip meter instead for the last 2 years. After running out of gas several times, I took car to another garage to check out why gas gauge is not working. They have advised the sending unit is bad. Another $300 dollars to have it fixed. I contacted Jean yesterday and reminded him I had returned a month after it was installed only to be waived off and not taken seriously. I asked Jean if he would pay 1/2 of my bill for having another sending unit installed. His reply, sorry, unit is out of warranty, can't do anything for you. REALLY JEAN! YOU COULD DO SOMETHING IF YOU WANTED TO! Also in June of 2014, Kobars installed new intake gasket, a month later while on a road trip, I had my car checked out by a certified mechanic before driving for Florida only to be informed the installation of the new intake gasket was the worst he had ever seem. I contacted Kobar via phone to explain. Kobars picked up the tab to correct the intake gasket. Kobars is NOW unwilling to take responsibility on a sending unit that never worked right even when I returned to the shop and told them.
