Kohala Coffee Mill was such a nice surprise. We spent a couple days at Puakea Ranch and this coffee spot was the closest coffee shop and I'm happy it was. It's a cute little shop with lots of breakfast and lunch selections. The coffee was perfect and we got our food and coffee quickly. I had the lox n bagel and my husband had the breakfast burrito. Both were very tasty and filling. I would highly recommend stopping at this shop if you're in the area. Oh, I also got an almond toffee mochi to go and it was the perfect afternoon snack! read more

Macadamian Nut and Tahitian Vanilla were my favorites; and I am a chocolate fanatic. The Lava Java disappointed: could barely taste the coffee, the chocolate nuggets were waxy and tasteless, and the marshmallows were tasteless as well. Delicious coffee! Stopped by here for a caffeine refill after visiting the Pololu Lookout. We ordered the macadamia nut latte and omg it was so good! The coffee was just the right amount of sweetness, with the right amount of coffee. It looked like a hurricane outside, (picture horizontal rainfall due to wind!) and so the warmth of the coffee was super appreciated. I'm sad I didn't get the chance to properly explore all the little shops nearby, but that rain and wind combo was just so crazy. Didn't get to try any of the other things on the menu. But if their coffee is any indication, I have no doubts that everything is delicious! read more

The cold be iced coffee was decent but packed depth and was a bit weak for my tastes. One positive is that their clear plastic cups appear to be ecologically vegetable fiber based. The guy that took our order today was very apparent in his friendliness towards that couple and not towards this couple. One by one he made his determination who was worthy of his customer service or not. I even made a point to tell him of the disparity and there was zero apology. The cross can hang around your neck but if you're discriminating, that's a hollow demonstration of your faith. I assumed that this individual was the owner but that was incorrect. The actual owner graciously reached out to me after my review and that is the customer service that can help repair damage done and make me reconsider the possibility of a future visit and purchase. The girl that was working this day was friendly in very apparent contrast to the guy. If I had the opportunity, I would reverse that 15% tip I left for benefit of the doubt. But in preparing my coffee it became apparent my husband and I were the ONLY individuals he was rude with in a line of about 10 people in and out of the store in the time we were there. Coincidence, not likely so take your chance if you'll be that one he decides to slight when you're trying to patronize only local small private stores on your visit. read more

The service and coffee were amazing. Our barista was friendly and whipped up our iced coffee drinks. They were delicious. The ice cream mixed with 2 shots of espresso was smooth and easy to drink. Creamy, not too sweet, and rich with coffee flavor. This coffee shop also promotes environmentally conscious decisions. Compostable cups, paper straws, and bins outside to sort them into. They also promote a bring your own cup mentality. It wasn't super expensive but it isn't cheap either, so keep that in mind. We also picked up some local hot sauce and a Spam cookbook. I didn't get a coffee but ice cream!!!!! They have an assortment of ice cream by Tropical Dreams! I got the white chocolate ginger ice cream! So fricking good! Just imagine if I put that between a couple of sugar cookes! The staff is friendly and my cousins even knew one of them. I did buy a bag of coffee, I mean after all, it s a coffee mill. I can't want to try them when I get back home. Definitely consider stopping by if visiting. There's a number of tables inside, and lots outside as well. Grab a cone and wander around the town. I have thoroughly enjoyed the coffee and the people, who go above and beyond to brighten my day. It really shows when employees are treated well- everyone is happy and loves their job. I bought a crystal from Kai, and now all the evil spirits have departed from my house. My daughter was kidnapped by terrorists, and Trevor successfully recovered her, and brought the culprits to justice. Auli'i drew a perfect Mona Lisa in my latte. After I drank it, I grew 3 inches taller. When I received critical medical diagnosis, Synergy donated a kidney, so I could continue living. My favorite spot to hang out it Hawi! Workers there aren't friendly at all. Very demanding and impatient. Were they busy? Sure, but they weren't handling the flow very well. Instead we got a curt, "What do you want?". No greeting at all. We ordered my order, then hubby just wanted one flavor but that wasn't getting through-so ended up ordering two flavors. The she asks cash or card, he asks how much it comes to, the promptly tells him the register on "this side" (the counter is approximately 20 feet. Ice cream/coffee/sandwiches. So apparently she either isn't allowed to enter the coffee/sandwich side or she's lazy and only wants to deal with a credit card. We paid and went to sit at one of four or five small tables. Ice cream was ok. Tasted like the kind you get from the grocery store...Breyers. Disappointing since Island Dream is supposed to be the gold standard on the island. Don't bother sending it to the mainland, I would choose Hansel's over Island Dream in a heartbeat. I was tempted to go across the street to Founding Fathers, but the reviews in the bathroom patrol turned me off. I didn't need to go, and understand that water, soap, and cleaning should be extended to those that buy a product-but to the point of interrogation and anti-customer just turns me off. We've visited this spot twice over two years. I can definitely see why people like it, but for me, it's A-OK. The shop has a nice variety of stuff, but a bit too touristy, with tourist-level prices. I've read a lot about free samples to coffee and chocolate. We have not been lucky enough to encounter that on our visits. The coffee order counter seems to always have a line, though it moves quickly, and the service is friendly and helpful. I have found that the drinks are too sweet for me. I even ordered a sugar-free mocha breve, and I could have sworn that I had a full-sugar drink. Sadly, it was also lukewarm, so I was done with the drink about 1/3 of the way through. I hate wasting stuff, but it was just ok and I didn't want to waste valuable calories. Convenient location and plenty of parking. read more

Worst latte ever. My disappointment was compounded by the fact that I was looking forward to drinking "authentic" Hawaiian coffee. I ordered a latte and got some kind of lukewarm brown water that I ended up dumping. The coffee was very, very weak and just undrinkable. Don't think it was one-off since the the first cup I got was not hot enough and they kindly offered to remake it (the second attempt was warmer by maybe 1/2 a degree?). In both cases, the coffee tasted terrible. The fam ordered milkshake and ice cream and they were very pleased with their orders. So there's that. But, 9 hours later, I am still going "ugh", whenever I think about that latte. read more

My husband and I drove to Hawi for a visit and had lunch at the Kohala Coffee Mill. Amazing staff who is very friendly and kind. Great menu. We sat outside under huge trees. Our meal was delivered quickly and was excellent. We had the MOA...a chicken panini with purple sweet potato salad. Quite delicious. We recommend this restaurant with the highest regard! read more
