This review is based primarily on the sticky buns (w/ nuts and raisins). They are. the best. sticky buns. I've ever had. I guess I need to say I don't even really LIKE sticky buns that much, but I think that speaks to how frickin delicious these are! Texturally amazing, dense but not heavy and rich but not too much so. I think they might use a sour cream or a yogurt to give the batter a little zip. I've also sampled the cream and jelly donuts, which aren't really my thing, but my boyfriend and his Dad live and die by the cream donut. The cinnamon twists are good though. Picked up a few cookies which I am underwhelmed by. I have only been inside the bakery once, but my understanding is that they have a line and you wanna get there early. No regular glazed, but chocolate or vanilla frosted of crullers. Can be very crowded in the summer, but go in and grab your number and just peek to see how far along they are. The Kholers Cream Donut is a gift straight from the gods. I just discovered Kohler's this summer and only recently due to a recommendation by a friend. Well, I am LOCKED IN!! It may literally be one of the BEST bakeries EVER......from the appearance of the products, the organization of the staff, the packaging of the goods, the AMAZING friendliness of the entire staff, and of course the DELICIOUSNESS of ANYthing you eat there!!! I am incredibly impressed! And a customer forever. Today is their last day open for 2020 and it was handled very well.. ...long lines that move fast and efficiently and a staff that never tires of being friendly and calm even in a huge rush. I ordered my absolute Favorite cream donuts with and without sugar and an assortment of trolley buns, cinnamon buns, crullers, crumbs, jelly donuts, among a few other treats. I could not wait to get home to start some munching on the goods! The sweets are so fresh always and beautifully proportioned to be just right for a serving. Nothing is overly sweet and everything is literally melt in your mouth delicious !! Starting with the owners Kate and Colleen, the bakers, sweet staff they go above and beyond, especially during Covid 19 protocols. The cream donuts (truly the best) crumb cake and cinnamon bun with nuts, snow flake rolls are our regulars and we always come out with a little more. Everything is delicious. People love this place but it's expensive and the pastries are small. There are always long lines so take that cue for what it's worth. Also they open at 8 am while other bakery/breakfast places open at 7. If you have little ones, you know the 8 o'clock or 830 is about the time they want to have their first snack! I discovered Kohler's Bakery in 1981 as a 9 year old riding a bicycle around Avalon, NJ. There are many delightful reasons to head to Kohler's, but for me the two main ones are: 1. cream filled donuts, and 2. everything else. There are no better cream filled donuts on earth. There may be no better sticky buns found on earth. They've never messed with their formula and they stick with their tried and true recipes. When I got married I headed to Kohler's to make my cake and was delighted they could oblige. Hands down the best bakery in Southern NJ! And maybe even in the entire U.S.! I used to live in Avalon in the off-season and would pop in for a treat when they opened for the season. I just wish they were open year round, although my thighs are thanking me! The buns are yummy - my favorite are the crumb buns. When the season hits peak you must get there at least 30 mins before they open because the line starts to form super early. I recently ordered a couple dozen crumb buns to my apt in Philly and was a bit apprehensive of how they would arrive as UPS tosses around boxes to the 100+ tenants in my building. Colleen and Kate did a phenomenal job in packaging them up - they were in top notch shape and I'm so impressed!
