Had a great first experience here at Kohnami Sushi. I would definitely recommend reservations since it is a very tiny restaurant with limited seating (4-5 tables). Very well done. We ordered a California roll (for my 11 year old), Cheyenne mountain, and red rock. All were incredibly delicious even after sitting for roughly an hour after picking them up (carry out). I especially appreciate the fresh, raw wasabi. We walked in at 8:23 because online it said they were open till 9 but signs said 8:30. They were very accommodating, we opted to do carry out to not hold them over. The service was top notch. We tried to strike up a conversation but got nothing back. I asked his name. He grunted back a word and walked away. The restaurant was not the up beat, fun place we were hoping for. Simply, the best Japanese food I have had in Colorado Springs. The prices are fair, the portions are large, the sushi is excellent and the service is attentive and kind. I have been debating on posting this because I don't want to come across as mean, but if owners don't know they can't fix right? This was my first time at this cute hole in the wall restaurant with seven other people. Our waitress was very nice very quick to get our drink order and all of our appetizers I would say six of us ordered at least two rolls a piece. Naturally, we assume that it's going to take them anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes to make all the sushi. Unfortunately, they only had one sushi chef and it took him an hour and a half to make these rolls. Now the sushi was really good but we were really close to walking out and finding a fast food somewhere. The chef had just finished up a big party when we walked in but seeing that we were a big party I wish someone would have jumped in to help out. read more

First off from my experience the place was bought out this year from previous owners, and before it took a long time to get your order but it was delicious, so at first I was very hesitant that it will continue to deliver the same quality! However, after multiple visits(specifically during Holy Week -almost every Friday) this place doesn't disappoint, the quality stays consistent with the sushi and the Korean Reymun. We haven't being able to find a place that matches the same quality of fish every-time, it almost melts in your mouth is so good! Yes! it is a small place and may get full at times, but Anthony the server and hostess will inform you if the wait is long to maybe come back another time, but is well worth it! Their customer service i will rated excellent, they are always attentive if you need anything else. We usually try to come off pick so we can enjoy the food and take our time! We really wanted to love this place and gave it a try multiple times, especially because it's so close to us. Unfortunately, however, the service is just too slow for us to come back again. The last time we sat down, it took a full 2 hours for us to get our meal since this restaurant has always had only one sushi chef working at a time. We also ordered a couple sushi rolls to go recently and were told it would be an hour wait. No problem, except when we arrived to pick up our order at the estimated time, it seemed that they forgot our order even existed and we had to wait another 20 minutes while, again, the only sushi chef rushed to put together our rolls. Since she rushed our orders, we noticed that the quality of our meal also wasn't as great as our previous experience. The server actually told us that our order is late because the chef underestimated the time it would take to make them, even though there were maybe 7 others in the restaurant. Overall, this place seems like they just don't care about their customers or about being in business since they're often rude and dismissive when we come in - I believe one of them actually rolled her eyes at us when we came in asking to be seated! I really think this restaurant needs more staffing. I get that times are tough and maybe they don't want to pay for more servers or chefs, but treating your customers poorly with the quality of service and food just isn't acceptable. read more

Really good Sushi! I read some reviews first and went in to give it a try. A number of reviews said the hostess was cold and did not greet them, but that was not my experience. I find people give out what you put in. I said hello right away and was greeted back. So were the three other customers that came in after me. The restaurant is small but very clean. My order was taken promptly and I was brought soup and a small salad, both of which were delicious. A number of reviews complained about the time or length of service, but my order was ready in about 15 minutes. It's Sushi folks, not McDonalds, they make it to order and they make it fresh, it's not something they pull off the shelf and drop on your tray. Good food takes time, and I'm glad I waited. The sushi rolls were all amazingly good. The rice was very fresh, as was the tuna and seafood within the rolls. The textures were great, and the sauces added to the flavor and enjoyment. We walked in at 8 and five of the seven tables were unbussed and dirty. We waited for one to get cleared. The dishes when they came were dirty and wet. All the fish, including the cooked unagi tasted like lemon as if that was a method of keeping it fresher even though all the nigiri looked tired and faded. The tempura shrimp and soft shell crab was so cold I assumed it had been fried long before and might have come from the fridge. We left half our meal there. We went in and, less than 10 minutes, we left. We were not welcome in there "at all", no hello and no service, in the restaurant by ourselves with no other customers. I guess it's because we had a well-trained Service Dog (lying right under the table as she should be) and we didn't want to eat outside while the outside was Very cold (30+/- F without heater)? The food was good but I was disappointed because it took 40 to 45 minutes to get most of our food. My 10 year old and 6 year old niece were hungry and we ordered a bunch of stuff. It wasn't very busy with diners but during the time we were waiting there were a few people that came in, ordered, waited for their food, and walked out with to go bags while we sat there with nothing on our tables.
