What I love about Koi is that it's consistently high quality sushi. Kind of like how maestros is consistently high quality steak. You always know what you're getting which I appreciate. Everything there from the cocktails to the sushi to the dessert is excellent. I particularly like the lobster tacos and ribeye bites to start. The orenji roll with lemon is my favorite roll here. The chocolate lava cake is also the bomb to finish with. I took off one star for the annoying wait even when you have reservations. I've waited here for 45-60 minutes on several occasions even with reservations, which only made me hangrier the longer I waited. The LA attitude from the girls who seat guests up front did not make it better. That LA illusion of overcrowding and making people wait outside to look busier than you are is super off putting for those of us who grew up in that generation and already spoiled having gone to all the best places. Service over exclusivity is the new chic. The crowd also ranges from try hard first timers / wanna be influencer types to more mature fine diners which is a hit or miss. Despite that, I always know for a high end sushi experience I can count on Koi. I'll just have to take a snack for the wait if I decide to put up with it. read more

Came here for the first time on 01/10/26 for a girl's night dinner and we were blown away. When we first arrived, we were greeted by a very welcoming hostess who brought us to our seats. Which were, by the way, the cutest shade of pastel pink that were perfect for photos if you are into that sort of thing. Especially with the bar in the background giving a hot pink vibrancy to the surrounding area. The lighting in here is very dim and warm, which is one of my favorite things in restaurants. It made everything feel super cozy. We ordered a Sea Bass Tempura Roll and the Koi Crispy Rice to share. To be honest, the proportions were really small but the food was DEFINITELY delicious! Over the course of this dinner we asked for like 6 things of ginger, which easily might be one of the new silliest things I've done, but it was yummy! Miso cod was my favorite dish. Honestly, I was a fan that it was such a nice big piece of cod and it was cooked perfectly and it came out HOT so I was such a fan. The vegetables on the dish were so incredibly bland though to the point where the dish would've been better if they weren't there. Lobster tacos were very small and light, but delicious. Very fresh lobster! Spicy Yellowtail ceviche was good, but honestly in hindsight had a little too much going on flavor wise, but the kick of spice was nice. I got the steak and yellowtail crispy rices, but I couldn't really taste the steak (it kinda blended in with the rice taste for me I'm not sure why). I did like the yellowtail crispy rice though and honestly those were also served so hot I was a fan and I loved that the rice wasn't too chewy or burnt like crispy rice can be. Trendy Japanese fusion spot in West Hollywood that has a cool vibe and good selection of sushi. The service was friendly and attentive as well. While I hate the area it's located in, the restaurant made it worth the drive! The Japanese style entrance with the Buddha on top of the fireplace started the vibe right since it was cold and windy. My favorite dishes are probably the lamb chops and black cod. 5/5. Lamb chops were cooked medium rare which was very tender. Black cod was super soft and the meat melts on your tongue; not fishy. Kinda tastes like eel. I really like how there were gold flakes on the she so LA roll, but the flavor was alright. The siracha mayo was too overpowering. Sashimi was decent, but they ran out of Toro that night. Damn. The 4 cocktails got me pretty buzz, but don't worry, it was good vibes and smiles. Our server was very kind. Valet will charge you $50 without disclosing -- we recently dined here in a pinch and valeted a Lamborghini, which they preyed on. They charged us more than double for valet without disclosing and didn't even pull the car up, only directed us to the vehicle. It was parked so close to the curb that the passenger side door scraped on the curb. When we called to confirm the valet fee; it was $20. Dishonest business. They claimed that they charge extra to park in front, apparently without telling us, the customer. They were defensive and fought with us about the charges. The only redeeming quality was our server Jordan. This place is mediocre at best, save you time and money and go elsewhere. read more

The ambiance of this restaurant was romantic, dark, and beautiful! The service was more than attentive! Never left a dirty dish on the table and cleaned our table after each dish was brought out. We came in a Monday evening around 7pm with dinner reservations. Upon arrival there were very few people and empty tables. More people started to arrive after 7:30pm If I don't get Zach as my server again I'm not eating! Such impeccable service! Truly knew the menu inside and out. It's like he almost knew what our taste buds enjoyed! Now for the food: Ribeye Bites 10/10: a must order shared plate! The Shishito peppers paired with the ribeye bites that were cooked medium rare was exquisite. The peppers really complemented the juiciness of the ribeye bites along with the jalapeño cream sauce Kiiro 10/10: tasted extremely fresh impaired with a cucumber taste that gave it a nice crunch Koi Crispy Rice 8.5/10: thoroughly enjoyed the yellow hotel, more than the spicy tuna. The rice was glazed in a sauce and cooked very nicely. I will say the rice was a bit sticky more than crunchy. Orenji Roll 6.5/10: I really enjoyed this roll & our server Advised that we get the sauce on the side, which was definitely a SAVE. If the sauce was on the roll, for me personally, it would have been too much. I think the salmon was very tender and fresh however the small piece of lemon inside the roll, I think threw off my boyfriend. I enjoyed the slight sourness and bitterness from the lemon and the peel, but I would not recommend putting the sauce on top of this roll. Personally, the sauce did not taste good even on the side. (lol) I think a nice Ponzo sauce would've paired nicely. I can envision the concept of sour and sweet, but the sweet sauce did not compliment the roll Pear Crepes 10/10: personally I do not like desserts, but this dessert was absolutely delectable. I thoroughly enjoyed the caramelized pears and the nuts. I really enjoyed the fluffiness of the crêpe and the lightness of the vanilla bean filling that was inside. It was not overly sweet or overpowering. It was just enough. I think the ice cream on top definitely helped with the sweetness and balanced it out nicely. I usually don't eat desserts after dinner however, this is a must order!! Overall, this restaurant PAIRED with great service & and WONDERFUL server made the dinning experience memorable. We ordered a bunch of sushi/fish as appetizers- my favorite was the salmon carpaccio which was an explosion of truffle flavor! For entree I got the short rib, which was tender and flavorful and came in a generous portion. My lychee martini was also very strong in lychee flavor and in alcohol content LOL. We also ordered the cheesecake, bread pudding, and pear crepes. The cheesecake and bread pudding were good but nothing to call home about, but I ADORED the pear crepes, which were warm and chewy with a little tartness from the pears and a nice crunch from the candied pecans. The atmosphere and decor was more what I expected of a lounge bar but it worked with that much open space. Parking can be hit or miss since its a heavily restricted permit only parking for residential area. You maybe able to find metered parking. If you know its during heavy traffic hours, just walk there if you are in the neighborhood.
