First time here and the Grilled Eel and Cucumber roll as well as the California roll was fabulous. I will go here again for their lunch specials. I highly recommend it. Had the Miru Mountain; spicy tuna with avocado (inside) with spicy crab salad cream sauce and mango and lemon cream sauce. Excellent! I will recommend this dish highly! 'Nuff said. Very small Japanese in downtown Islip has some creative sushi creations. Since there are no sushi dinners here, everything is a la carte so I ordered a salad which was a decent size for $5 but they gave you hardly any dressing on the side. Tried the Kokoro spicy wings, though not particularly spicy, they were quite tasty. Ordered various rolls and nigiri and I will give kudos for the fish being very fresh. Only problem was the tuna roll and yellow tail scallion rolls were tiny. The salmon sushi was very fresh and the grilled eel was nice. Service is rather slow and cold and prices aren't such a good value either. Dinner for two almost $80. At least the fish was fresh so not complaining. Recommended for creativity of the rolls and freshness of the fish. Price and service, meh. read more

My grandma and I come here at least once a month - the coolest part about it is that you can choose a few of their special rolls and get HALF of one and half of the other as one roll!! No other sushi place has that - it's awesome if you want to try two rolls but aren't that hungry - just get them as one roll and go halfsies! I went with the ramen noodle shrimp tempura, it was pretty tasty and filling. Fiance went with the two special sushi rolls - and an appetizer, the bon boms are so delicious. Ordered a sushi flight, a bowl of ramen, as well as lychee sake for a drink. I'll start on the service, it was genuinely bad. I work in food service and typically have a super high tolerance for waitresses but mine was a few things at once. She firstly was dressed like she just rolled out of bed which isn't a huge deal because i get a laid back vibe from the entire place however, she took our orders and when pouring the sake pretty much slammed it on the table. There was a table with a couple directly next to us that came in about 15 mins after us and was somehow served a few minutes before us. I ordered the house ramen with "spicy pork" that honestly had no heat to it at all and was super sweet to the point that it was repulsive and the broth was super bland. I want to say it was because it was a busy night but, I left this place still hungry because didn't make it a few bites into my ramen before I wanted to leave. I've been trying to find a good ramen spot close by after having pho and ramen a few minutes away back in Boston, and I think I may have found my go to. I had the pork belly ramen (with additional spicy pork) and the beef bun with scallions. The ramen was amazing, the actual broth was smooth (a little on the sweeter side than I'd like it but nothing one can't handle)! They have only one serving size to my knowledge, and it was hefty enough for me to eat for lunch and dinner. I should add I did the take out option and it was all packaged well with no spillage. They took a little longer on the soup, but I much rather have a well done hot soup then a mediocre cold broth. The actual Resturant is very inviting. It is a smaller space but not uncomfortable at all. At the end of it all I would definitely recommend grabbing some food from here whether take out or eat in. read more

I live in Brentwood and was googling ramen noodle places near me and the closest place came up in port jeff and Smithtown. I was a little disappointed wanted something closer to me. I changed my wording search and came across this place. Ofcourse I check the reviews and decide to give this place a shot. Oh my gowd it did not disappoint. I had the Beef spicy ramen noodle bowl. It was not to spicy and if you like it more spicy add some of that siracha in it. Oh boy... they gave you a great portion of noodles and beef. I am so satisfied. This place got a lot better. The rice is perfectly cooked, the sushi is always fresh, and the service is friendly. The menu is pretty unique with "sushi bombs" I think they're called, and some unique rolls. Food always comes out pretty fast. The only thing they don't have is bento boxes. read more

I have never heard of half of their choices but had to try the Bon Bombs and the Tuna Pizza (which is always a personal favorite so it was a must). The spicy crunchy edamame was insane!! If you're into good spicy sauce ask for a side of their housemade hot sauce. There are so many things to try so we have to come back. My favorite part was the option of being able to get half and half rolls instead of a full roll. What an awesome option to offer to diners!! Kudos for being innovative! The service was great. I am so suspect of sushi in the suburbs. I hate to sound snobby but too many people don't know what's good and the reviews are largely based on misinformation. High marks are rarely given to the stuff I care about at a sushibar - rice, freshness, and rowdiness. So, there were some traditional warning signs - no bar, potentially Korean, experiments with the signature rolls and even deals to encourage more fabulousness in the rolls - but I decided to just roll with it and give it a chance. I was really surprised that it was excellent through and through. First of all, and probably most importantly, the texture of the rice was spot-on - exactly the chew the rice is supposed to have. So, when we got the bon bombs, which turned out to be like a round, concise version of what I am used to with nigiri, it was a remarkable surprise how good it was. A sampler of 16 pieces (tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, lobster) was $18. Other sushi tasted fine but whatever you put on that rice will be good. Dessert of the shrimp tempura miso ramen - another one, surprisingly good - the major accent of good being with the tempura. Prices are fine. Staff was nice and accommodating. Customers were finer than could be expected. Sushi chefs seemed bad-ass. I would totally come back here again and recommend to anyone. read more

The waitress admitted to me that she had never eaten here. She did not know the menu or have a concept of what the items were. I had to explain to here what yellow tail an jalapeño was and what it would look like. The table next to me said she did not get anything they ordered correct, But thankfully the food was good. The waitress also told me that the fried oysters were not fresh but came from a package. (The menu reads fresh) Then she told us our food was ready but waited 10 minutes to bring it out. It was no longer hot. I ordered fried cheesecake for desert and there was a 3" piece of plastic wrap in it. The cook did not notice it while preparing. The manager came over and was apologetic but. All of that screams bad management. You can have the best food but none of that matters if the execution and service are horrible. read more

I was excited to try this place since one of my coworkers recommended it as the best ramen in Suffolk County. Once I walked in, I knew I was in trouble. The place is more a trendy Korean-Japanese fusion place than a ramen house or sushi bar. Not at all what I was hoping for. It was too late to go elsewhere, so I went ahead and tried the "House Special Kokoro Noodle Soup" in beef. What came was terrible. It was a salty thin soup with veggies that did not belong in ramen. I asked the waitress and it seemed like they also have a pork soup that actually has a different broth (I had assumed that the protein choice only applied to the toppings). Could they actually have a decent tonkotsu? Unfortunately, their pork ramen was terrible as well. Still overly salty and lacking in any depth whatsoever. Overall, a bad experience. So Cary R and I had this place book marked for a while and kept putting it of because of the distance from where we live. Anyway, when we got there, the place was mobbed- it's not that big and hold up to about 30 people. The wait time was about 35 mins for 2 people. We went accross the street to the Blue Seafood Restaurant and Oyster bar for a couple of drinks and left our phone number. They called us promptly when our table was ready. We tried the pork bun, they also had oysters and of course I had to try it - so had a half of a dozen. I had the ramen soup and had them add the short ribs to it. Everything was delicious, oysters was OK. Last Friday I went out to Islip where my husband works and we got lunch at the newest place on Main Street. It was relatively crowded, I'd say about 2-3 other full tables and it was bit later in the lunch hour. We were seated quickly and had our choice of tables. The menu is pretty variable, with all different kinds of sushi. I got an assorted lunch portion selection of sushi rolls/sashimi and a cup of the Miso Soup since it was still quite chilly and windy. Chris got a Lobster Salad sushi roll (not off of the lunch menu) and also a cup of the Miso soup as well as green tea. Oh and we also got a side order of warm Edamame to take out with us. The colors on the Lobster Salad were absorbing and creative. And of course we felt great supporting a new local small business. The service was super quick and I appreciated that the staff didn't rush us out the door but were attentive and checked on us frequently. There were about 3 others behind the bar avidly working and crafting the sushi during this time with 2 servers out on the floor. It was really cold inside since it was the end of winter/beginning of spring and an unseasonably frigid afternoon but I was so cold. Koi Kokoro accepts credit card payment as well as cash and they were able to scan the card real fast. The bright, pale and cheery yellow accents and quaint decor inside were welcoming and soothing to take in. I hope to come back again very soon as it was fresh and really satisfying. read more

Cannot say enough about this place! The sushi was amazing, I got the Saiko Lobster and my boyfriend got the Koiro Girl roll. We also got Ramen. He got beef and I got shrimp tempura.
