We have never tried this place at Mission Beach. We were very impressed. The food was really good at reasonable prices. Husband had Philly cheesesteak which he said was one of the best. I had Falafel and loved it. It's small and unpretentious but the service was good. We would go here again. read more

Trying to make it to the beach from the airport to see sunset on my birthday. we missed it by that much. Wandered around in the sand and wated a bite to eat. We were happy to find this little place. Food was fresh, service was pretty fast for a Saturday night but then again we were just enjoying the people watching on a saturday night on their patio area. He had the Greek Plate.. was so full could bearly finish. I had the Cheesesteak and fries. Simple and a good sandwhich. read more

First. Simple and delicious. Had the fish and chips and the gyro plate. Basic things (olive oil on pita before going onto griddle, having properly dried lettuce with fresh lemon juice, tasty and vibrant kalamata olives, feta that has some moisture and flavor... Fast service. Friendly customer service. The business owner makes you feel very welcome. If you do get the opportunity to dine here you will look around and you'll notice that on the walls he has photos up with customers that he gave special attention to over the years and he is recognized in the community as a business owner operating in that particular space for over 20 years. My dear cousin was not familiar with the popular Greek dish, Gyro so I ordered only one and we split it together. It was exciting to see her appreciate the texture of the handmade sausage meat, the yogurt tzatzki sauce, and fresh ingredients used. I do want to add I really enjoyed the carmelized onions and how they were diced into bite size pieces into the thin strips of onion I'm used to seeing when biting into Gyros where I live. I would have enjoyed the Gyro much more- if I had ordered lettuce as an add-on as I found myself needing to break from the rich savoury flavors in the meat, exciting spices in the sauce... Prime beach-side location, but otherwise pretty average food. Had a classic gyro, which was serviceable but unremarkable in every category. Ok meat, ok tzatziki, solid pita. Absolutely satisfactory. Good took forever to get after ordering. The owner served people after us who are locals...made us wait for fries and chicken tenders that came overly fried and too dry for my daughter to eat. Real talk....this place my daughter was just hungry and wanted kids meal...chicken tenders and fries. Simple right? We waited half hour for overly fried food. It was weird because the staff actually are only attentive to locals and others like us were waiting and waiting. I was watching the batch of fires and chicken going in and I knew it would be on the overly done side because the fries were wayyyy dark and so was the chicken. I love spending $15 this way ...no way. Bye!!!! Be better guys! read more

This place is awesome! The food is fresh and always hits the spot. I always get the Gyro plate and the Humus. I have tried some other items on the menu and they were super tasty too. This place has been around for years and you will always catch some real locals getting a quick bite to eat. The guys that work there are always super friendly and if you get a chance ask them about some history of Mission Beach. read more

Great little spot on Mission Beach if you wanna munch on some Greek food while you watch the sunset over the water! Surprisingly cheap for its location too. I was also surprised to find that it seemed to be the least popular restaurant in the area. The Falafel Sandwich is the only vegan option but it is quite good for $8. Most falafel sandwiches I've had come with 4 medium sized falafels but this had 3 large ones. They were very soft and delicious. I was a little disappointed with the toppings, however. Only lettuce and tomato with a drizzle of tahini. The pita was also well done and a bit crispy which I liked. The patio seating provides a pretty good view of the beach so it's a great place for dinner time. read more

Great location adjacent to Mission Beach and Belmont Park, Kojack's offers a good and basic lunch during a day outing in the nearby area. The menu consists of traditional burgers, salmon burgers, chicken tenders, hot dogs and pizza. Taste and value is typical of any snackbar you will find at a tourist area. i felt very discriminated against as a black person. i stood in the doorway and was interested in the menu and even asked for fish and chips and the owner shooed me out to the next restaurant. Quick and tasty! We ordered this takeout/delivery and it was at our resort within about 10-15 minutes of ordering. I had the Greek Platter with lamb, tsaziki sauce, pitas, and Greek salad. My wife had the falafel sandwich, and we shared the hummus plate and baklava. Everything we had was great. Absolutely no complaints, we will eat here again next time we're down in SD. This place is a San Diego gem. My friend and I stopped by wanting to grab a quick and easy bite. We ended up getting friendly with the employees and they told us the restaurant has been around for over 30 years. Their food and service speak for itself. Everything is amazing. NOTE: I did not read any reviews before visiting, but after I did, I saw a pattern... We stopped in for an early lunch, and the owner was very nice to us, the food was quite good, and the location is fantastic! HOWEVER: The owner has a habit of "rounding-up" when he tells you the price of your food order (read other reviews for similar observations). We ordered two items at $7.94- that should total $15.88, adding 7.75% tax, that should be $17.12. He just said $18.00 and we paid it. The way that the cash-register is set up, you can't see the screen... I thought the even dollar figure was a long-shot, but I was too tired to do much math, and he is probably counting on folks being too lazy or drunk or unobservant to catch him in this minor-grift (READ OTHER REVIEWS, TOO) When confronted by others he said "I don't have change" (or similar). IF YOU GO HERE, I RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING: When ordering, Please say "I need an itemized receipt showing tax for this business write-off". That SHOULD force him to either a) charge you the correct amount, b) allow you to use credit-card and not need change, or c) allow you to pay with your own change, and thereby take away his scamming excuse... BE CAREFUL AND ENJOY YOUR LUNCH! read more

We were excited to try this family owned beach restaurant. What a FLOP! Ordered a cheese steak sandwich and fish and chips. The meat in the sandwich was burnt and hard with barely any onions and no peppers. The meat only made it to the middle of the sandwich, no meat anywhere close to covering the whole role. As for the fish and chips, you'd be better off hitting the supermarket and grabbing a box of frozen fish sticks and a bag of fries. YUCK! read more

Been living in San Diego for 20+ years and I have never been here. I don't typically make it a point to dine in touristy places or particularly crowded areas (pandemic times), but the sun was shining and we wanted to get out and ride around the bay. Based on the great and helpful Yelp reviews we gave this place a shot. Repeat customers, a very friendly owner and GREAT food makes this place one that we will purposely drive to again and again. I love trying new foods so will have to come back with more friends and try other things on the menu. The downside of this place was being seated on the right side of the restaurant near the carry out section. This was the pit of despair. I noticed that most of the staff goes to the other end first, and as a result 4 tables got seated after us and all of them had food on their table before we managed to flag one of the staff. It was definitely busy in there but he replied that he was simply going in order, but apparently order or left side to right side instead of arrival. I recommend trying to get seated on the side w the stained glass windows for better service. Other than that, the experience overall was pleasant.

Both dishes came with these little cups of some kind of red spicy sauce that was delicious. The shawarma plate is $20 and the chicken cream chip plate is $19. It ain't cheap but this is high quality food and you get a lot of it. I know I am supposed to swoon whenever the word "wagyu" is dropped but honestly, I thought the rice was the star of the show. It had some type of cream in it that made it rich and delicious. The shawarma plate was very filling. I actually liked the chicken a little more than the wagyu beef so maybe my taste buds are off. The breaded chicken was excellent and very tasty. Parking is tight. I am not sure if the liquor store's parking spots are supposed to be used for the food truck but I saw people use them that way. Unfortunately, the Owner Mike and the Cook George do not value their longtime customers who keep telling them about the declining conditions and environment at the restaurant located near Belmont Park in Mission Beach. When told about the gang of 20 guys doing drugs who stand in front of the restaurant on a daily basis, they very disrespectfully and rudely turn their face and ignore you. Mike has harassed and called the police on hot dog vendors in the area, but embraces the drug addicts and predators who prey on people in the area as they come into his restaurant to buy a hot dog between committing crimes. There have been 6 shootings in front of his restaurant near Belmont Park in Mission Beach in recent months, and Mike ignores the guys standing there doing drugs in full view of children. It's all about the money with Mike! Today, there were 2 girls standing in the doorway of the restaurant waiting for their order with their arms crossed and giving dirty looks at the customers. They seemed scared, and rightly so due to the riff raff hanging out in front of the restaurant and walking by, but it made for an extremely uncomfortable experience. When I told Mike and George that their customers are scared and glaring at everyone with dirty looks for their protection, Mike & George once again turned their face in the other direction and ignored me. I have been coming here for many years, but the environment inside of his restaurant has become horrible, dangerous, and a grave safety hazard... Mike clearly does not value long time customers who are upstanding citizens. He doesn't care about the declining conditions in front of his restaurant, yet he calls the police on hot dog vendors who are just trying to make a living amid a skyrocketing cost of living in San Diego. He even said, "They're taking away business from me by selling hot dogs to these guys." He treats the gang members, ex-cons, and derelicts like family and nicely dressed upstanding native San Diegans like garbage... His rude and dismissive reaction to legitimate safety concerns demonstrates that he doesn't care about the experience that customers have at his establishment. If you are a tourist and you get stabbed there, then he will probably look the other way... Therefore, I no longer feel comfortable eating at this restaurant. There should be a sign that says, "Eat at Your Own Peril!" The weird defensive behavior from the seemingly "normal" people who drop in on occasion not only make you feel extremely uncomfortable, but it also makes you feel like you're eating in a dark alley after the bars close in PB. The predators are lurking and the girls are paranoid with dirty looks on their faces scowling at everyone around them for protection purposes... NO thank you! read more

Well I will preface this by saying finally after a myriad of I times that I have stated I will create a yelp account after patronizing a place of interest or restaurant, I finally have. So kojacks..wierd name for a greek joint, anyhow its only foreshadowing to how the experience went. Friends from out town were visiting a friend that was working nearby. He recommended the place and he usually doesn't puck around with mediocre dining establishments so I figured the coinflip was an automatic win. We arrived there through a scenery of beautiful blondes in bikinis so that part was amazing. Then kojaks.. the fellows working there were obviously of Mediterranean descent so I my expectations were still good. The homie working the counter seemed cool and was more than happy to take my order for a gyros sandwich fries and a root beer for a healthy 11 bux. I shrugged it off as I was hungry and figured that the 1 or 2 bux extra for thr overhead of th4 location was arbitrary. So onto the food... well we got the order to go and upon finding a place to sit across the way near the roller coaster and all thr other fan fair our other friend that was working nearby quickly noticed thr Styrofoam to go containers were housed in 3 different types of plastic bags. Strange. Now the gyro..it was sub par on all levels. The portion of gyros meat aka lamb was insignificant. It was honestly a 1:1:1 ratio between the meat onions and tomatoes. Ok fine the portion wasnt on point but neither was the taste. Bland at best.. and the pita was stale..the visitors from out of town got falafel s and I certainly didn't hear any raving.. my other compatriot got a Gyros sandwich as well..he asked for extra / a side of tzaziki (sp?) that was non existent. Mid meal I learned the counter guy was a perv but I wont hate on that too much.. also while we were an eating an African American woman waking asked where we got the food. She said "whered u get that jie rose?" My friends obliged and pointed her in the direction of this facade of a restaurant. I said we should have warned her not to go.. I bet she was on tilt too after thinking she was gonna get a decent meal. Oh yea the fries were 100% store bought frozen and they're lucky I like ketchup because they assumed I did and put ketchup in one of thr compartments... lastly they didn't give us napkins or utensils so I had to swipe some inside of the window from that montys place whose server ignored me. Great service, the staff was so cool. I walked in and looked at the above menu and the three guys working smiled and me and could recognize I spoke Arabic so started to chat with me which I was really nice. They told me what was good and I was half tempted to order everything they had mentioned but I came in craving a burger and fries. They laughed and joked with me when I prefer what I did but they told me it would be out in no time and offered a complimentary drink for my friend and I. We both order a cheese burger with fries. Everything came out with in minutes. The burger was well done for us both, the meat was good and the fries where cooked very well nice and crispy but not to crispy, fresh cut. The service here and the food is really good I could see other guests ordering there true food Mediterranean and hey seemed to all be very pleased with their meals. Don't worry I will definitely be back to try all the great options you guys mentioned. read more

Kojacks is the best place to have Gyros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This resturaunt has received endless amounts of letters and recognition from tons of honarary customers. This place has lots of history. No joke. Johnny Cash has eaten here. So has Lorenzo Lamas and Britney Spears. Also, scenes from two movies have been filmed here. For those who are interested one movie was "Garden of the Nights" and the other movie feautured Shelly Long. Although, Adam Lambert (upcoming music artist) wasn't a customer I did get his autograph and a picture with him by the sea wall. Lastly my dad is awesome for owning this resturaunt. believe me, I dont give 5 stars lightly. This himilayan feat only goes towards places that my absolute favorites...and there are only 5-10 of those in the county. Kojacks has the best gyro...HANDS DOWN! And love me some gyros more than water. The owners are always there and always remember the locals and returning guests. They are also open late night, right next to the sandbar, so food is always good to go late night (they also sell cigarettes for you smokers past the time the markets close). next time you are in Mission beach...you MUST go in and treat yourself right read more

I walked in here after the sunset, craving some of that lamb while the wife ordered chicken. They both came in huge plates containing Greek salads,tzatziki sauce, and fluffy pita bread with some rice on the side! As soon as I saw the cook shave the gyro with a knife rather then a peeler I knew he had years of experience! The food was just excellent and the grilled chicken was marinated just right to fit the Greek flavor. This place will deffinatly have me driving to the beach from east county more often! read more

I came here with a friend and felt a little mixed about our experience. This restaurant is slightly on the expensive side and the quality of the food doesn't really match the standard. Our prime server was little less friendly than usual or may be that was his personality. I tried grilled chicken and my friend tried the gyro. wow! this is not what you need in San Diego....came to check out a new local business and it may be…read morelocal but it is not Mexican. beware. tile floor was all broken up and unsafe and I was looking at the menu but it just seemed off and then I saw the food handlers certificates etc and knew this was not for me. feel bad for the staff who need a job but it was grungy and I don't want to get sick on vacation. the setting is grim. I was worried about food quality and authenticity.
