This place is no gimmick. It's very close to the beach and across the street from Belmont Park, but is a solid Greek restaurant. These guys know what a gyro is all about. Really good gyro sandwich. Everything else sucks. I mean inside the restaurant and around it. Literally the only safe thing to eat in a 5 square mile vicinity. It just so happens to be delicious. Over the years I have had gyros and other items from Kojack's and always thought the food was good. So, this past weekend I asked them to put together some trays for a small gathering I was having. The food was delicious, very generous portions, and packaged to travel with ease. Mike and his team did a wonderful job of making everything just right and my guests LOVED the Greek buffet. We had gyros, grilled chicken, falafel, greek salad, dolmades, and delicious tzatziki. Everything was so good. And shockingly, the owner called the next day to make sure I was happy! I was so disappointed yesterday when my wife and I came down to support this business after seeing them on the news. After ordering our meal which was cheep! We watched the guy who was taking out the trash without washing his hands load our cooked food into the to go bags, if that weren't enough we also watched him lick his fingers to open the bags.. he wasn't wearing a mask or gloves yet everyone else were, and I never saw him wash his hands yet a sink was right next to him. Eat here with a friend Aug. 25th. We ordered a med pizza called The Works. One med Pepsi and one med Dr. Pepper. Total was $19.88. What we got was a small pizza with pepperoni and green bell peppers. That's it. Certainly not a works pizza. The crust was very thin and tasted like saltine crackers without the salt. And my friends Dr. Pepper was watery. Pass this one up. My #1 stop when visiting San Diego. You won't find mouthwatering Greek like this anywhere else in the city! Also, I can't recall a single visit where the owner wasn't personally working, and he's always very welcoming. I admire how hard they work and it definitely pays off. Look for the Sandbar sign & Kojack's is located right next door. I've run passed this location many times & have never noticed it since it's just one of those hole in the wall places, however, you will be glad to stop in for the Gyro. This is what I like: 1. Hot Fries & Cold Ketchup (in case you are wondering why the ketchup is not sitting on the table). Fries are fresh cut & with a special seasoning that taste like a blend of paprika, salt, pepper, & something secret. 2. Chunks of Gyro meat with pita bread that is Perfectly toasted. Crispy on the outside & not overly drowning in tzatziki sauce, as other chain places do. 3. Very friendly people working there. The guy sweeping the floor even asked me how I liked the beer because I told him I never tried it before. 4. They have high chairs for kids & outside seating. 5. I love the old pictures of the guys working there on the wall. 6. Wheelchair in the women's room ??? It's good to know where u can get one, given my history. First time at this place during my recent visit to San Diego. I was craving for some Greek food, and a cousin of mine recommended this spot. The food here is overpriced.. like my wallet had just been raped and violated. I ordered the philly cheesesteak and chlli cheese fries. The cheesesteak tasted so good i wanted to get nekkid. The chilli cheese fries however were pretty crappy. The fries seemed undercooked, the chilli tasted suspiciously like canned Hormel chilli, and the cheese was more like gas station nacho cheese sauce rather than actual shredded cheddar cheese. I went in here last night with my family. From the moment we walked in, The owner, Imad, not only warmly greeted us but recommended a few entrees. We went with the beef and chicken gyros and some side of fries. All I can say is, OH MY GOD, that was gooooooooooood!!! What impressed me the most was the meat, which tasted fresh and organic. The white yogurt sauce topped it off and made my taste buds go wild. Vegetables -- I'm not sure I've ever had tomatoes tasting so good. The gyros was wrapped in a not overly crunchy pita bread that's seared in the frying pan. The fries were also seared in the same frying pan, so it's taste was one a kind. Finally, to set the mood, we slid in a dollar into the Karaoke machine and listened to our favorite jams. Overall, hands down the best gyros I've ever had--anywhere.
