A Valentine's Day Restaurant Adventure (Or: How I Learned to Love Hot Water) Nothing says romance quite like an empty restaurant on Valentine's Day. Apparently, everyone else got the memo except us. Having survived their takeout years ago, we bravely ventured in for the full "experience." Oh boy. Let's start with the positives, because that's a short list: My wife's meal was "adequate." That's it. That's the list. My beef teriyaki was a fascinating study in contrasts - tender as a leather boot, but hey, at least the sauce and veggies were edible. The real entertainment, though, was the service. Our waitress, sporting a smile that screamed "I'd rather be anywhere else," mastered the art of customer avoidance along with the rest of the staff. They should teach this technique in ninja school. The "green tea" deserves special mention. First attempt: hot water with vague memories of tea. Second attempt: slightly less hot water with whispers of tea. "Hope this is more to your liking," said our waitress, apparently unaware that tea typically contains, well, tea. But wait, there's more! Apparently, my miso soup went missing in action. "Oh yeah, we ran out," our waitress helpfully informed me after I'd finished my meal and received the check. Her solution? "Want like a salad instead?" Because nothing says "I'm sorry we forgot a hot soup" quite like some random lettuce after you're done eating. The grand finale: $47 plus additional tax and tip for mystery plates and world-class disappearing acts. We tipped well because even terrible service deserves mercy on Valentine's Day, but let me save you some time and money: AVOID THIS PLACE! My family has been coming here for years, and our visits have always been excellent. The owner is so friendly and kind, and the wait staff are very attentive. The ambiance of this restaurant is great too, perfect for a gathering or date night. I've tried several dishes over the years, but the ones I keep coming back to are: - Tango roll: filled with crabmeat and shrimp tempura, and topped with salmon and four delicious sauces - each bite is an explosion of flavor! - Temptation roll: similar to the tango roll, but it also has cream cheese inside and is topped with crabmeat. If you like cream cheese but also want a spicy kick, this roll is perfect for you. - Shrimp tempura bento box: a shrimp tempura roll (with avocado, crabmeat, and sweet ponzu), Japanese salad, crab stick, and egg. So so satisfying. - Sushi combination bento box: you get to try a little of everything in this one! It also comes with Japanese salad and crab stick. - Salmon tower: A bed of crabmeat and rice, topped with avocado, salmon, fish egg, and four different sauces. It's so much fun to demolish, mix, and eat. A bit overpriced in my opinion, but it's 100% still worth a try! P.S. Really, a good amount of my last review stands so if you are looking for information on location and atmosphere, you could still refer to that. However, my next two visits made me realize the sushi quality here is more like decent to good, and service is a bit lacking. In fact, my next visit, I didn't even get to eat! I was seated and then ignored for 15 minutes before I left. The server didn't even get my drink order and though they had tables, they weren't in the midst of a rush. I had somewhere to be and that's too long to leave a customer unattended without even getting a drink order. I came back a couple of weeks ago and got the salmon roll. This was a great deal at $5.50 and service was very speedy. Well, I was the only one in there, it was 15 minutes before 2pm when they close, so I guess I expected speedy. The salmon was okay, the nori was not fresh, it was quite chewy. The cut was uneven but overall it was a good roll for the price. Unfortunately, I'm obsessed with salmon now and this was not nearly as smooth or tasty as my first visit. It was good enough, but I get much higher quality a couple blocks down on a consistent basis that literally melts in my mouth. That could be a vendor issue perhaps. Service is not very attentive and most of the staff were on their phones. It's a bummer that subsequent visits didn't compare with the first, but it's still a decent place to get some sushi. There are just some really great options in the area, so my visits will be occasional. read more

My first time at Edohana. The food was good, but pricier than other sushi places in the area. I like that they have beef bulgogi since this is my bubba's favorite. We were seated, waited on, and then served. Then... we sat there for half an our waiting for our server so we can ask for the check. Edohana is my favorite sushi place in Flower Mound. Their location is convenient and parking is easy. You can call to order take out or eat in person, but they don't have an online ordering system. Edohana has a large menu with something for everyone. I will say: I don't eat sushi. So I always get the chicken teriyaki and it's good every time. Their specials are served with miso soup and salad; the soup is excellent. My favorite thing to get is the mushroom poppers as an appetizer. It's basically fried mushrooms filled with crab and they are SO good! The staff is friendly and moderately attentive. I had on a summer dress and had to sit on my napkin because the chair was ripped and scratching me. Good food - I have zero complaints and everyone in our party lived what they ordered. Disgusting. Rude. I hate giving one stars because I always want to give places another chance especially if it is my first time, but this place is gross. I had the chirashi bowl, my mom a salad, and my dad some shrimp with rice. First of all, the sashimi on my chirashi was all unfresh. I took one bite out of each type and put it down because it had such a fishy taste. I feel nauseous just thinking about it. Mom's salad was 6 pieces of sashimi thrown on a thin layer of spring mix. Dad's was 4 pieces of shrimp, veggies, and rice. Over priced for portion and quality. At best I can give a 2/5. Now, worst of all was the service. The guy working there was friendly enough so I left a 20% tip because I did not want to penalize him for the food. But the girl working there, skinny with a party dress, was atrocious. She had a bad attitude and plopped down our dishes. I asked for a spoon for my bowl and she laughed in my face and said "what for?" And when I pointed to my bowl and said for my rice she smirked again and said "oh...ya sure haha." Seriously made me feel dumb for asking. Then she brought out a long tea spoon and smiled in a condescending way again and asked "good enough?" Like I have never felt so dumb asking for some silverware. She was acting like a hot shot so maybe she was a manager, but if she is just a hostess, fire her! Maybe it was because we were Korean.. but she was friendly to the other white guests. She filled my ice green tea with water and acted annoyed when I told her I was drinking green tea. What is her problem. Never ever will I be returning. The restaurant is a decent size, pretty dark and dim inside, and was definitely dead during lunch hours. We originally planned to try out Curry's restaurant across the street, but didn't realize that they were closed on Mondays until we got there. The staff was friendly and the service was good. The food, however, is a different story. I ordered a miso soup, house salad, seaweed salad, and an order of salmon sashimi. The miso soup and house salad were your ordinary soup and salad that you get at any Japanese restaurant (the miso was a little bland though). The seaweed salad was a little too salty. The salmon sashimi was a pretty good portion considering that the cut was pretty thick. Not bad, but the texture of the fish was not as soft and fresh. Very lackluster. It was disappointing. I also ordered the crab ball and jalapeño poppers for the group. The crab ball was basically just fried shredded artificial crab meat served with a light sweet and sour sauce. I wasn't impressed by this appetizer at all. The jalapeño poppers, however, seemed to be a crowd pleaser. The consensus seemed to be that cream cheese would make this app even tastier (free tip!) The rest of the guys ordered off of the lunch menu. One ordered Chicken Tempura, another ordered Tonkatsu, another ordered Chicken Teriyaki, and another ordered Chicken Yakisoba. When their food came out, I was literally shocked at how small the portions were. I wanted to ask if there was a food shortage here in Flower Mound that we weren't aware of. The image of a very thinly slice of chicken with teriyaki sauce graffiti'd all over it on a bed of what seemed to be flattened out rice on a plate is still stuck in my head. I raised my phone up to take a picture but halfway through it I just gave up. It wasn't even worth a picture, but now I wish I would've snapped it just to justify my description and prove that I'm not over exaggerating. The same can be said for the Tonkatsu, and the Chicken Yakisoba was laughable. It looked like it was ordered from a kid's menu (see photo). The chicken tempura actually didn't look too bad, and the presentation of it was the most decent amongst all of the other dishes. During our "feast" we muttered to each other that Kaji (on Round Grove next to Jimmy John's) would've been a way better and an extremely more satisfying place to go (it's our usual lunch spot), and the prices would be a lot cheaper for way more food. (This is what we get for betraying Kaji) Also, the music selection at Edohana's is unbearably corny and depressing. At least Kaji's music is bearable. All in all, if the staff wasn't friendly and if the service was bad, this place would get only one star. But because of the staff and service, two stars seems fair...and maybe a little too generous. read more

Went here for dinner with a friend and I'm not sure where to start. I guess I'll go ahead and start with the appetizer. We ordered chicken Egg-rolls and asked how many were in one order. Our waiter said 4, which was a nice surprise that soon turned into a disappointment. When we got the egg rolls, they were actually two Egg-rolls that were cut into 4 pieces. For the main dish, I had the super dragon roll, which was pretty good. Finally for dessert I had the tempura ice cream, which would've been great if he tempura was actually warm... It wasn't. Best Restaurant in Flower Mound! The atmosphere is welcoming and lovely. I didn't think I liked sushi but was persuaded by my family and waiter to try some. The salmon crunch roll was delicious as was the tuna roll. I now say I like sushi! The table was set with a small appetizer of marinated cucumber slices and the best sliced ginger and wasabi. The menu was extensive and included all kinds of sushi, rolls, and entrees. My entree, chicken tempura, came with a tasty miso soup and salad. The tempura chicken and vegetables were outstanding! It was breaded lightly and fried to a delicate crisp coat. I understand that everything is homemade. The service was also wonderful. This was the fastest sushi place I've been to. Though it is a nice and chill place. Ambiance is somewhat intimate. You would think they will drag to get the food out to you. It was a busy Wednesday night. Place was 80% occupied and the stream of to-go pickup customers were steady all through out the night. Our food still came out fast. And do you know why? It's because they have 4 sushi chefs behind the counter. They pretty much had a 5:1 ratio which is great. So overall my experience was great. Sushi we're fresh. In the area for business and saw this quaint sushi restaurant. I was starving, and I thought this would be a quick lunch stop, as most sushi lunches are in my experience. Service took forever. One server and one sushi maker. I stood at the entrance for about 3-4 minutes until a server appeared to seat me. The gentleman making sushi never said a word or greeted me in any way... I just stood. Two tables who came in after me had their orders taken first. Sushi was good, but who has an hour to spend on one spicy tuna roll and miso soup?
