Kolache factory is walking distance from my house. I try to go there once in awhile when I have guests over since their menu is unique and a lot of people have tried it before. Never heard of this kind of place until my sister-in-law brought us here. It reminds me of New York city and their empanada's. The bread is wrapped around whatever you choose..it's very soft. I wished my sausage, egg and cheese was hot. They nuked it after bringing it to the table and realizing it was cold. Once it was nuked and medium hot it tasted really good. My family is obsessed with this place. We love it because of the great array of options. Kolaches are essentially rolls with different fillings. My personal favorites are the pizza, egg & cheese, and cream cheese kolaches. The concept is very interesting and they are great to buy in bulk and then put in the refrigerator for later. Very unique place I discovered through a friends snap chat!! I got a variety. I believed it was a bit expensive for what you got, but very tasty! We got ham and cheese, sausage egg and cheese, sausage jalapeño and cheese, sausage gravy, and the ranchero. Was not fan of ranchero, but that's my fault because I just ordered what I saw other people liked and didn't read the description. We love kolaches for breakfast! They have a lot of great options so if you want breakfast or even lunch they have kolaches that work for both. They can be filled with eggs, sausage, cheese, chicken, pepperoni , mushrooms. They have it all. They also have dessert ones. I usually like the egg filled ones, but also like to get a pizza one sometimes. I like they make a map of your choces on the lid of the box. They all look the same so easy to mix them up. They have parking in back for easy in and our. We have never eaten there since we live close or get them for the road. They had a comfty looking area with chairs, newspapers and a tv. I'd like to say we're regulars, however that is likely changing! Upon entering the restaurant there was no one at the counter and it took several minutes for someone to come out and greet us. The restaurant itself was very dirty almost every table had food on it, on the benches and the floors! I could somewhat understand this if you're very busy and just got finished up with a big rush, however, my husband and I were the only two people in there. I have been going to kolache factory shops for over a decade and have never had an experience as horrendous as today. I was cussed at by someone who claimed to be in management. I go in with my mother and get ignored for 5 minutes, then a man comes up to take our order straight from sweeping the floors. I ask him if he could please wash his hands before serving. I go onto order 2 chicken enchilada kolaches and he gives me attitude the whole time. Once I get home I discover he's given me the incorrect kolaches. I go back and ask a lovely girl to assist me because I wasn't pleased with his service. He barges over so I tell him he's given me incorrect kolaches. He immediately argues with me over what I've ordered for 2 minutes until finally he allows the girl to help me get the kolaches I wanted. I asked her if he's always such an a*s. She didn't answer, but her smile told me everything I needed to know. As I'm leaving I turned to the man and said "I hope you have a day you deserve." His response was "f*ck you." I asked if he was in management and he claimed he was. I sincerely wish I had recorded this experience, but I truly didn't expect the level of unprofessionalism I experienced. Not exactly the Kolaches of my childhood across the Atlantic, but quite a delightful alternative of sweet dough filled with savory or sweet ingredients. Our family favorites are ham and cheese, bacon egg and cheese, cream cheese and apple. One kolache feeds one young child, two-three for adults. Ask to warm them up - much better that way. Decent coffee, standard drink options. I have previously used the North- East location to cater kids' birthdays and the food was definitely a hit compared to cold and tired sandwiches. So amazing. The "fruit" ones are _not_ fruit "filled". They just have a smidge of fruit on top. Don't waste your time here! The meat stick one are just glorified pigs-in-a-blanket, but _not_ as good as your mom used to make. MOVE ON. The best are, and this is what I get every time, the Jalepneo Poppers, the Ranchero, and the Sausage Gravy. The first two are spicy (but not _too_ spicy) and the third one is so scrumptious and mild that it will cool your mouth back down (eat it last!). Today was a whirlwind. No. Today was a category 4 hurricane. Not quite a 5, but plenty of destruction to go around. My frustration at discovering I'd left my lunch at home was quickly replaced by a twinge of inspiration. I grabbed my phone and flipped through my Yelp "to try" bookmarks. The closest candidate to the office? You guessed it. Kolache Factory. I hopped in the car and was walking in the door in no less than 7 minutes, surprised to find the place so empty at 12:30 in the afternoon. There were only a handful of other people and they were on their way out as I stepped up to the counter. I'm guessing they're geared toward more of a breakfast/brunch crowd? My mind raced as I stared at the menu. I remembered a review that mentioned the ham & cheese. Sold. Next up - a sweet option. I queried the counter lady what she would suggest. This is where things got a bit rocky. I asked for a recommendation and the response was a shrug followed by a half-hearted flip of her hand in the direction of some options that looked like they were topped with some jam-ish type stuff. I panicked. Despite the absence of other customers behind me, I felt the pressure kick in. Make a decision. C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, do it! Cherry? I blurt this out half questioning, half begging for guidance. Panic over. She turned and added a red blob topped option to the bag with my ham & cheese selection. I'm handing her my credit card before I know what happened. She hands it back and I realize I have no beverage with my lunch. Second transaction completed, and I'm on my way out the door. I don't know how to feel about my experience at this point. It was weird. An empty establishment and disengaged service? Maybe it was just the crazy bent of my day continuing? Driving back to the office I remember the other thing from the reviews of Kolache Factory I'd noted - have them warm them up for you. Drat. Cold kolache for me, I guess. My heart plumeted again when I looked in the bag and noticed the cherry topping smeared over my ham & cheese kolache. Sad face. After my first bite, I didn't care. No way. No how. They were scrumptious!! I wanted a dozen more, but I was completely full after just two. I didn't even get a picture of the cherry one because I wolfed it down with such enthusiasm. I was two bites into the savory option before I remembered to take a photo. I want to do Kolache again. Soon. I want to do it better. Calmly select my options rather than panic rush. Have the kolache warmed. Bring a book and enjoy a peaceful lunch in the quiet restaurant rather than at my desk with one hand on the keyboard. I absolutely love this unique idea. I was put on to the Kolache Factory about 2 years ago and have been in love every since. I am always stuffed and love their coffee! This location is great! They have a TV and two comfy chairs for people to lounge in... Very cute! Also, this location is very clean and the staff is good. The reason I give this place 5 stars is because the Stuffed rolls are so. Darn. Good! I got 2 sausage, eggs and cheese kolaches and they were awesome and filling! I will continue to return! I just wish there was a location closer to the downtown Indianapolis area! read more

Ummm...the noms. I'm a fan of carbs so when you wrap delicious cheesy, meaty, eggy, breakfasty goodness inside of bread, you've pretty much made my ideal food. We had driven past this place a few times while going to lunch elsewhere in Carmel and decided today was the day we were going to stop in. I went to Google the menu and found a buy three, get three free coupon instead. Win! I ended up with six kolaches: two ham, egg, and cheese; a chicken enchilada, an Italian chicken, a bacon, egg, and cheese; and a potato, egg, and cheese. I haven't gotten to any of the breakfast ones yet (I was full after two) but the chicken enchilada was my favorite. I also sampled the BBQ beef and enjoyed that. Who knew I would like kolaches, let alone love them? It was a "where have you been all of my life?" moment. I kolaches! The employees are awesome. They explained all of the different options, there are important choices to be made when selecting which yummy ball of goodness you will be putting in your belly. I tried the BBQ brisket and the monthly special. He tried the sausage and gravy. First thing you should know is I really don't like brisket. He asked why did you order that? Well I'm all for trying new things, so I tried it. It was great, the sauce a little spicy and sweet, perfect with the tender brisket, did it change my mind on brisket? No. I still don't like brisket but I did not hate this presentation of it. The monthly special, sausage, gravy, onions and hash browns. I am not one who likes food touching food (yes, I use a divided plate at Thanksgiving), however, if it is presented in "sandwich" form, I'm game. I loved the flavor but the different textures were a problem for me. My SO said he would trade me for a sausage and gravy. Let me tell you about this experience. First you should really know I'm not a foodie. I eat because I need to eat. There aren't many things food wise that bring me joy. But this, this yeasty ball of goodness was heaven-sent. There were no words for me to describe what I was feeling, so, tears of joy started pooling in my eyes, then ran down my cheeks. This has happened a few times. This is a good thing (mildly embarrassing for me and my SO) but oh my. I was, at that moment, speechless. He looks up and laughed, and said "I take it you liked it". I smiled, said yes, and can I have your other one? He did share half and got us more to take home. One minute in the nuke-a-rator and it was a blissful afternoon snack. He did surprise me with the berry pastries. Same dough, flattened and filled with lemon curd. Lemon, my favorite. They have several different flavors to chose from; cherry, peach, apricot... The Ranchero is hands-down a great breakfast roll. My husband's work will have Kolache catered - so he's been a fan for a while! I know when he comes home with half of his lunch still packed that it was a great Kolache day. I enjoyed my first Kolache this weekend, and it are great. There's no better way to start your Friday morning than with their warm dough balls stuffed with delicious breakfast foods. It's good. I like it. But in order to get those delicious breakfast dough balls, I have to face some of the worst service, ever. I know it's early. I know you've already talked to a million people this morning who have asked what's in a ranchero kolache. But please, please, please just try to be nice to one more person (me). Every time I go here, the service is mediocre, at best. I've worked less than five minutes away from Kolache Factory for years and I'm just now being introduced to its awesomeness! I honestly can't believe it. These kolaches are the best little treats that I've stumbled upon in quite some time. For the beginner, these guys are a variety of ingredients baked into a sweet-like dough, ranging from breakfast ones to lunch to fruit dessert. I'm obsessed. I've tried several of them at this point: I really enjoyed the sausage and gravy kolache and the potato, egg, and cheese one. So, so, so good. I've also had the cheese and bacon one, and I plan on trying the ranchero as a coworker has told me it's very good and spicy. I'm really looking forward to coming here for lunch, too, as they have BBQ beef, pepperoni and mushroom, and Philly cheese steak ones. I also ordered an apricot fruit kolache. They are a bit different, dough topped with a fruit gel. Cheap and delicious. They ask you if you'd like them heated up or room temp, which I assume they're good either way. I have been several times. Today we are trying the Carmel store. Kolache's are delicious. Some are sweet and some are savory. If you like spicy there is something for you too. It all starts with a special dough that is filled with different things. There is sausage and gravy, bacon eggs and cheese, ham and cheese, hot polish sausage, mild polish sausage, eggs Florentine, all of these things are wrapped in the special dough and baked to a light golden brown. I had two enchiladas which had chicken and sauce and I'm not sure what else. They were delicious and oh so spicy! There were some with different fruits and some with cream cheese. I truly wanted the cream cheese, but I just don't need it. There are many more items than I mentioned. It's easy to warm up Kolache's so don't be afraid to buy some for today and tomorrow. read more

But way too much wheat for me so I may not be going back. But if you like wheat you'll love kolache from this shop. Wish I had remembered to get a cup of coffee but my mind was otherwise preoccupied with our dog spending the night at ER. The cashier was polite but very quiet and hard to hear. Also should ask each person if they want a cup of coffee to go with their order. Also should have someone from the back come out front when the line grows. I love this place! I love kolaches! I haven't found another one since I left Texas. So this was definitely a nice surprise here in Indianna. We ordered the ranchero, the sausage egg and cheese, and the pepperoni mushroom. The ranchero is my all time favorite, the jalapeño gives a nice kick to it. This is my first time trying pepperoni mushroom. The bun is visiblly smaller than the e other ones. But it tasted pretty good. If you have not tried kolaches, make sure you try it here. I love the kolache factory at 96th and allisonville so was excited to have one closer to home. Unfortunately it was awful. I got a philly cheese steak wish was about 1/4 of the size of the other place. and the dough was so underbaked I could not eat it. We also got an Italian chicken that was only slightly bigger and also underbaked. An eggs and cheese was slight better in that only the bottom bit was underbaked so we were able to eat the top. We had a large pile of underbaked dough at the end of meal. Unfortunately even if they had gotten the bake right, the flavors weren't there. Things just didn't taste quite right. We told a staff member that the rolls were underbaked showing him our remains. We did get a reply from the owner saying that he would review the issues we had. Hopefully our experience was a one off. If you're a first time kolache tryer, you might want to play it safe and try the 96th and Allisonville store. If carmel had been our first experience we would never have gone back would have missed out on several years of great Kolache. read more
