Food was great, but the service was slower than expected. My husband and I came with two friends--we were seated right away and ordered drinks quickly. It wasn't very busy at the time, but our drinks still took about ten minutes to arrive. We started with potstickers, which were delicious, and our little one's avocado came out quickly, which we appreciated. However, after placing our order, we noticed several tables seated after us receiving their food before we did. At one point, we were concerned our order may have been overlooked. When the food finally arrived, it was very good--no complaints there--but the wait was a bit disappointing, especially since most of what we ordered were appetizers. Overall, we'd still come back, just hoping for a smoother experience next time.

Komodo Loco in Denton is one of those places that just gets the balance right--great food, fun vibe, and something a little different from the usual spots around the Square. The Asian-Latin fusion menu is creative without being weird about it. The sushi rolls are packed with flavor, the ingredients taste fresh, and everything feels thoughtfully put together. It's the kind of place where you go in planning to try one thing and end up wanting to come back to work your way through the menu. The atmosphere is laid-back and lively, perfect for grabbing a casual dinner or drinks with friends. Staff is friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Denton and want something a little more interesting than the standard Tex-Mex lineup.

Good food and great happy hour. My wife and I stopped by during a visit to Denton's Halloween which is super cool, but I digress. The place is real homey and very approachable. We stopped in around 5pm and found they have happy hour which was a nice surprise. We ordered a few items off that menu, but also wanted to try some regular items as well. The tuna and krab cones were really nice and light. Perfect to share over drinks. We always get an order of escolar when we find it. It was nicely cut and scored which made for an excellent chew. The last item to arrive was salmon dish called the cure. It had nice, thick slices of salmon with torched skin over a bed of soba noodles. It was okay and kind of strange. The torch really did a number on the skin. I would have preferred and hot skillet sear since the torch left it bitter and dusty from the ash. We are glad we tried it but wouldn't get it again. The service was great. We never ran out of drinks and had no questions on the progress of our order. We will come back every time we visit Denton.

Was in town for a conference and used Yelp to scout out some nearby food options. Parking in the area is a bit tricky, but once you manage that, the walk around this little strip is easy and enjoyable. Lots of food and bar options nearby--it definitely has that small college town vibe (because it is one). I grabbed a seat at the bar and was greeted right away. Service was fast and friendly, which I appreciated since I was on a time crunch. I probably wouldn't return just because I'd want to explore other places if I'm ever back in town, but this spot did the job. What I ordered: Veg Out Roll Smoked Yellowtail Belly A mocktail (bartender's creation, since there's no mocktail menu) Food was fresh, well-prepared, and hit the spot. Solid choice if you're in the area.

Honestly, this was such a great spot! Went there for the first time and realized it was happy hour with loads of options. Our waitress Victoria was so nice too. We got a couple of maki rolls, their loaded tots, miso soup, house salad (amazing dressing), a signature roll, and the bulgogi yakisoba. All dishes were great! Really enjoyed the variety offered. Also, loved the atmosphere and warm vibes.

Amazing place to snag a seat on a Friday night. Wow is all I can say. The food is amazing and the drinks are top tier. The bartenders are knowledgeable and give good recommendations. Make sure to get the LARGE loaded tots to share because they're addicting.

I went with a friend on a Friday evening and had a great experience overall! The restaurant was decked out in Halloween decorations which we loved. We had the loco egg rolls which have chorizo, I've never had that combination and loved it! I also got the southern smoked ramen and my friend got the yakisoba. The only thing about my ramen was not impressed with are the eggs, even in the picture, their cook looks a bit off like they either overcooked or had them sitting a while. Another thing was we ordered diet Mexican Coke and was served flat about 3 times until the machine eventually worked. We thankfully had an attentive and great server that noticed they were flat and gave us a warning each time, and to let her know if they were flat. Because of her kindness and transparency it was no big deal, or else we would have been more hesitant to complain about them. I'd definitely come again.

This place is phenomenal! I was m town for a vid wrench and was not expecting anything super great. Luckily, my coworker suggest we try here and I admit I was blown away! In fact, it was so good I came here two nights in a row. The location is great with plenty of public parking down the street. The vibe is pretty hip and fits the food quite well. Both nights we shared several apps, and I ordered a sushi roll and a bowl of ramen. Everything that everyone had both nights was incredible! And on top of that, prices were great. I would definitely come here again, if ever back in the area.

This Asian-Tex fusion spot in the heart of the college scene (right between UNT & TWU) delivers big flavor and great vibes. The bao buns are soft, flavorful, and packed with variety, the fried rice hits every comfort-food note, and the cocktails are bold and fun--just the way we like them. Perfect for a casual bite, date night, or hanging with friends. We'll definitely be back!

Did not have "eat some freaking excellent sushi in denton" on my list. I have been well and humbled. We visited my brothers family and he took us here. I have really enjoyed this establishment tonight. I particularly loved the fried chicken skins and the duck wings! They where delicious. I ordered Smokey ramen. The broth was very good, but I was not thrilled with the pulled pork in it (totally my fault - I didn't read my menu properly). They have many other dishes to try and I will definitely return as I thought the menu was creative and different, which is always fun! I will also try the sushi next time- I saw multiple tables eating it and it looked really good. For dessert- I had a lovely macaroon ice cream sandwich from Joy macaroon in Dallas! What an awesome find of Sushi and Asian Fusion across from Oak Street draft House on the Square in Denton!! Even better was their Happy Hour apps and drinks. Huge variety in one meal!! From the Chorizo fused egg rolls, the Awesome BAOs (which I've never had and now found these little buddies), great rolls and towers, and Ramen, which I will have next time, that didn't read as complicated and fancy, all with a great atmosphere! Having one of the Co-Owners, Kyle, come out and make sure all is good, and Nathan our server giving great suggestions and helping us quiz our daughter on her Vocabulary words she was studying...well this just exemplifies Denton. Great food and great atmosphere. Casual place and would be solid to bring kids too. Menu has some interesting items and would recommend ordering various small plates. What stood out on the menu were the totchos -- fantastic! Komodo tower was also a standout. Only thing that was mediocre were the Brussel sprouts. The duck wings were tasty also. Met a large group of friends here for a birthday celebration. Inside was very cool, with lots of interesting decor to look at. I started off with the polyphonic gin & tonic, which was surprisingly delicious. Very lightly sweet, not too harsh as I was expecting. For an appetizer I had the cilantro edamame hummus, which was very good. I also tried the pork belly bao buns, which were good. For my main course I had vegi out maki, which was good and surprisingly filling. We debated on desserts as they sell large ice cream sandwiches in fun flavors, but ultimately we were too full. Komodo Loco was EXACTLY what Denton needed when they opened up. sure there are several sushi places to eat in the " Little D" but nothing to this level. the take on Japanese/Texas cuisine makes this place unique and delicious! if you are thinking of coming you MUST try the fried chicken skins. they are savory , crunchy and the sauce adds a spicy sweet kick. The Hamachi sashimi is buttery with a delicate yet powerful punch of yuzu and jalapeño . being from Texas we take our fried chicken seriously and I admit I was a bit skeptical of a fried chicken bao but I was blown away. the chicken is so tender and juicy. the batter of the chicken is sweet and it pares perfectly with the marinaded carrot and pickle. their house made salad dressing is to die for. the cucumber salad with octopus is heavenly and I really could go on and on about so many dishes here but I will leave that for the next person to review. any night of the week you will find owners Corey or Kyle running around who are just as friendly as can be. hands down the best restaurant in ALL OF DENTON!! read more

This was a great date night splurge for my boyfriend and I. We both love sushi and this place was great! Everyone is super nice and all the staff is very attentive and accommodating. It was a plus that we were allowed to bring our fur baby (dog) with us to sit on their outdoor patio, while we ate dinner. We will ALWAYS be coming back due to this accommodation. I asked for the chef's sashimi platter, due to seeing other reviews on Yelp. They have a $50, $75 and $100 option. We heard about this restaurant from restaurant.com and was able to use an e-gift card, $25 off of at least spending $50. So we chose the $50 sashimi chef's board. We absolutely loved it. The chef picked out sashimi contingent on our preferences. We also ordered shishito peppers and 2 baos with beef bulgogi inside on the specials menu. Everything was very delicious. We will be coming back to try more items on the menu! read more

Hidden away little gem. Unique food and sushi Youre not afraid to eat in denton. Trust the chef with the flavor profile. Komodo Loco was established in 2016 by three local Denton boys with a passion for food. We're a nontraditional Japanese restaurant featuring a wide variety of dishes with Asian and Southwest flair, and while some folks might be tempted to call us a fusion place, we don't want to be too gimmicky. Instead, we say we provide fun, fresh meals that are innovative, delicious, and not too fussy -- a little something for everyone! And because we want Komodo Loco to be a place where you can hang out and enjoy the atmosphere just as much as you do our shareable tapas and specialty cocktails, we've put a lot of time and effort into cultivating good vibes around here. Wish we had looked a litte harder on this selection. We thought it was a chicken Alfredo. So this is defintley packed with cheese, more of a Mac and cheese bake. Everything was good! The john McClain was a bit too much for me with the egg but happy was able to try it! I would love to come back and try more off the menu!

I recently visited this spot in downtown Denton, and from the moment I walked in, it had more of a pub-like or American restaurant vibe which wasn't too surprising. I had heard a lot of good things about their ramen, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The broth was non existent and overall flavor was just okay, nothing that I couldn't make instantly at home . I added chicken, which was also average. The blackened shrimp with Caesar salad, on the other hand, was a pleasant surprise. The shrimp were well-seasoned, and the overall dish worked nicely. I appreciated that our server was friendly and flexible, allowing us to make a few customizations to our order. While the sushi options didn't really appeal to me this time, I do plan to come back and try a few other items that caught my eye especially the Poké Bowl, the Komodo Tower, and maybe the Bayou Tower. Overall, not a bad experience. There's potential, and I'm curious to explore more of the menu on my next visit. read more

This place was a big part of my decision to move to Denton. I lived in San Francisco for 16 years and got used to really excellent Japanese food. Moving to TX, I was bummed about losing the cuisine. Komodo Loco is not only top notch ramen, but the service and ambiance is second to none. Music is always on point, the servers, bar tenders, and management are attentive and engaged, and there's rarely a wait. Special call out to Nate, who's style, conversation, and service are a huge part of what makes this place special. Do yourself a favor and try the signature cocktails; the Depeche Mule and Cowboy Bebop are personal favs. Also, if you're not drinking Sapporo with your ramen, you're doing it wrong. read more

I LOVE this place! The food, drinks, service & atmosphere were great! I'm vegetarian so I ordered the ramen soup with tofu and it was was fantastic! I added some fresh spicy relish to it and it was amazing! I also had one of their signature cocktails that was really unique & good. One of the owners stopped by our table & told me they could customize some other menu items to avoid the meat/seafood for me. My husband had sushi and raved about it! We live in Austin, but plan on coming back next time we visit Denton! Austin needs a Komodo Loco!!! read more
