Food was great, but the service was slower than expected. My husband and I came with two friends--we were seated right away and ordered drinks quickly. It wasn't very busy at the time, but our drinks still took about ten minutes to arrive. We started with potstickers, which were delicious, and our little one's avocado came out quickly, which we appreciated. However, after placing our order, we noticed several tables seated after us receiving their food before we did. At one point, we were concerned our order may have been overlooked. When the food finally arrived, it was very good--no complaints there--but the wait was a bit disappointing, especially since most of what we ordered were appetizers. Overall, we'd still come back, just hoping for a smoother experience next time.

Komodo Loco in Denton is one of those places that just gets the balance right--great food, fun vibe, and something a little different from the usual spots around the Square. The Asian-Latin fusion menu is creative without being weird about it. The sushi rolls are packed with flavor, the ingredients taste fresh, and everything feels thoughtfully put together. It's the kind of place where you go in planning to try one thing and end up wanting to come back to work your way through the menu. The atmosphere is laid-back and lively, perfect for grabbing a casual dinner or drinks with friends. Staff is friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Denton and want something a little more interesting than the standard Tex-Mex lineup.

Good food and great happy hour. My wife and I stopped by during a visit to Denton's Halloween which is super cool, but I digress. The place is real homey and very approachable. We stopped in around 5pm and found they have happy hour which was a nice surprise. We ordered a few items off that menu, but also wanted to try some regular items as well. The tuna and krab cones were really nice and light. Perfect to share over drinks. We always get an order of escolar when we find it. It was nicely cut and scored which made for an excellent chew. The last item to arrive was salmon dish called the cure. It had nice, thick slices of salmon with torched skin over a bed of soba noodles. It was okay and kind of strange. The torch really did a number on the skin. I would have preferred and hot skillet sear since the torch left it bitter and dusty from the ash. We are glad we tried it but wouldn't get it again. The service was great. We never ran out of drinks and had no questions on the progress of our order. We will come back every time we visit Denton.

Was in town for a conference and used Yelp to scout out some nearby food options. Parking in the area is a bit tricky, but once you manage that, the walk around this little strip is easy and enjoyable. Lots of food and bar options nearby--it definitely has that small college town vibe (because it is one). I grabbed a seat at the bar and was greeted right away. Service was fast and friendly, which I appreciated since I was on a time crunch. I probably wouldn't return just because I'd want to explore other places if I'm ever back in town, but this spot did the job. What I ordered: Veg Out Roll Smoked Yellowtail Belly A mocktail (bartender's creation, since there's no mocktail menu) Food was fresh, well-prepared, and hit the spot. Solid choice if you're in the area.

Honestly, this was such a great spot! Went there for the first time and realized it was happy hour with loads of options. Our waitress Victoria was so nice too. We got a couple of maki rolls, their loaded tots, miso soup, house salad (amazing dressing), a signature roll, and the bulgogi yakisoba. All dishes were great! Really enjoyed the variety offered. Also, loved the atmosphere and warm vibes.

Amazing place to snag a seat on a Friday night. Wow is all I can say. The food is amazing and the drinks are top tier. The bartenders are knowledgeable and give good recommendations. Make sure to get the LARGE loaded tots to share because they're addicting.

I went with a friend on a Friday evening and had a great experience overall! The restaurant was decked out in Halloween decorations which we loved. We had the loco egg rolls which have chorizo, I've never had that combination and loved it! I also got the southern smoked ramen and my friend got the yakisoba. The only thing about my ramen was not impressed with are the eggs, even in the picture, their cook looks a bit off like they either overcooked or had them sitting a while. Another thing was we ordered diet Mexican Coke and was served flat about 3 times until the machine eventually worked. We thankfully had an attentive and great server that noticed they were flat and gave us a warning each time, and to let her know if they were flat. Because of her kindness and transparency it was no big deal, or else we would have been more hesitant to complain about them. I'd definitely come again.

This place is phenomenal! I was m town for a vid wrench and was not expecting anything super great. Luckily, my coworker suggest we try here and I admit I was blown away! In fact, it was so good I came here two nights in a row. The location is great with plenty of public parking down the street. The vibe is pretty hip and fits the food quite well. Both nights we shared several apps, and I ordered a sushi roll and a bowl of ramen. Everything that everyone had both nights was incredible! And on top of that, prices were great. I would definitely come here again, if ever back in the area.

This Asian-Tex fusion spot in the heart of the college scene (right between UNT & TWU) delivers big flavor and great vibes. The bao buns are soft, flavorful, and packed with variety, the fried rice hits every comfort-food note, and the cocktails are bold and fun--just the way we like them. Perfect for a casual bite, date night, or hanging with friends. We'll definitely be back!

Did not have "eat some freaking excellent sushi in denton" on my list. I have been well and humbled. We visited my brothers family and he took us here. I can't believe it took me so long to write this review! So incredibly good. I got the Miso Ramen without the chicken usually I despise the broth in vegetarian ramen but this is FIRE! I am so excited about how amazing it is I could literally drink the broth alone. I also loved how perfect the boiled eggs were the perfect combination of cooked and runny! Perfect! Try this place! If you love sushi you'll love the food. My favorite dish we tried tonight was the Poke bowl. We weren't sure which sauce to choose so we asked for samples--which we used to dip with everything we ordered. We also ordered sashimi and nigiri--really really top notch. The service was also great! We took the waiter's suggestions and he was right! Very friendly. It's strange that you can't sit by the sushi bar. The dining atmosphere was casual. Good food, not the best service. The food is very different, it's like a twist on sushi, I got the mean green and my boyfriend got the beef fajita one. Not your typical sushi but it was very good. The dragon eggs though, those are really good! Although, The service was not the best, I got a cocktail and the drink was mainly ice, and when I asked to light ice and they told me no. It was fairly busy but when we called our waitress, Kobe I believe is her name, she pretty much ignored us. Maybe go on a slower week day if you want half decent service. read more

EXCELLENT!!! This joint has got it GOIN ON! EXPERT TIP: ask what the chef specials are. We lucked out with a pork belly and coleslaw Bao (Tai puff taco kinda...) The spicy edamame was spot on and the spicy salmon was bulging with salmon! I have wanted to try this place since they opened. I finally got the chance to make it there and what really made it great that I got to try it out with my local yelp buddy. They open at 4 and we arrived 5 minutes early, but they allowed us in and we were quickly seated. The two of us had already checked the place out via yelp so we already had an idea of what we wanted, we just needed a minute to narrow things down. This was my first time meeting Manda (my yelp bestie) in person so we were still figure out each other's likes and dislikes so we could order multiple dishes and share. We both have a dislike for spicy foods. We asked for Komodo dragon roll sans spicy and were told that would be no problem. It arrived to our table looking delicious, but was spicy. We initially thought is was the spicy crab topping, but after a bite without topping, we realized it was serrano peppers in the roll. It was also heavy on the cream cheese. We asked about this prior to ordering and to still get it spicy was a bit disappointing. We brought this to our server's attention and the manager came out and was happy to fix it for us. We decided to go with the Cali roll (forgot actual name). It was decent. A bit smaller than other roll and had more seeds than expected, but it was fresh and flavor was good. Next up was the duck wings. Technically it was a duck leg. It was 5 star all around. Golden, crisp batter, not greasy and flavorful. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this here alone is worth another trip. I ordered Ramen and Manda order rice bowl. We both chose Pork Belly as our meat. The pork belly was not fatty and extremely flavorful and tender. We both agreed that Pork Belly should be offered as a side. I am all about rice, but wanted to try something different. The broth was bland (intentionally) but added the sauce gave it a nice hearty flavor. It was good, but after trying Manda's rice, I would prefer that. The atmosphere was great and the decor fit the restaurant perfectly without overdoing it. We noticed that our server was a bit "bothered". He wasn't rude, but his whole demeanor changed after we sent our Dragon roll back. It wasn't his fault, so I am not sure what that was about. There were a few other mishaps with our service, but it didn't take away from the quality/taste of food Kyle is one of the owners and he made sure that we enjoyed our visit. He talked with us about future menu items and off menu items. He was very friendly and it made up for mishaps of the evening. I will probably give them a few months to sort things out before I give it another try. read more

A buddy of mine said to check out this place called Komodo Loco in Denton,TX - and I live in Austin - so my mom, my fiancée and I decided to go up and check it out. The food was amazing. I had the Komodo Tuna Tower and the Fajita Roll, and they were both excellent. I also got a Totchos Pulled Pork. It was a really cool twist on a pretty common idea. I even added crawfish on the top of it. Mmmm! My mom had the spicy salmon roll and the duck wings. It was really good as well. The presentation was perfect and the taste was incredible. For being so far from the ocean the sushi was fresh and tasteful. My fiancée had the Totchos with kimchi and the spicy tuna roll. She loved it and it was an ample proportion too. Enough that we had take a to-go box. I highly recommend making the trip - if you're a foodie - and go enjoy some fusion sushi!! read more

Tried Komodo Loco for the first time based on reviews. Ordered various dishes but the main course was the Komodo Ramen dish. Love Ramen and was looking forward to it. Ramen came out and looked delicious. However, after the first bite, was I disappointed. All the ingredients were on point except for the main ingredient, the broth. It was so bland that I had to question the universe. The restaurant had great reviews, all the other dishes were excellent, presentation was beautiful, so WTF? My son is a chef and has spoiled me and I consider myself a foodie. Anyway a manager came by to ask about the food, etc. and I told him about the Ramen and he seemed surprised that I said it was bland. He explained how they make the broth etc, which I really appreciated. It was obvious he was proud of his kitchen. I ate all the protein in the Ramen so it was obvious I ate some of it. I was pleasantly surprised when they took the charge for my Ramen off my bill without being asked. You may be wondering why 5 stars. Cause I went back two days later to try the Ramen again and it WAS ON POINT. Ramen broth was savory! This time I ate it all. I guess on the previous visit it was just an aberration. Komodo Loco (and Po-K Loco, same owners) makes it easier for us to live in Denton, where food is still figuring itself out. We honestly would be so much less happier if not for this place. My partner and I frequent it at least once a week, sometimes multiple times, because we love it that much. Not a bad dish in the house, and this is probably one of the few places in town where you can get solid service. We love the folks there. Our recommendations: ramen in the winter (their pork belly has been getting better; initially it was a little lean/smoked out for me, lately it's been fattier and more tender), poke bowl (the crab salad is the most delightful part of it; the ingredients are so freaking fresh), any of the appetizers (but especially the brussel sprouts), poke tostadas, the baos (any. of. them.), the sashimi (better than Keichii), tater tots (good god), even the fried rice there is good. My partner's favorite thing in all of Denton is the Korean hot chicken sandwich, but take note, it's not always available. Finally, as with all other things Texas, I usually ask them to go easy on the sauce for things. Otherwise, go to town. read more

My friends wanted to treat me to supper and after a bit of research they found this little jewel in downtown Denton. Parking was a bit of an issue, and we did have to walk about a block to the restaurant, but this was not unexpected for downtown. The food is a fusion of Japanese and South American and it was just wonderful. The chorizo egg rolls were a favorite with the whole group. Their mixed drinks were very different (some were spicy and some sweet), but the night was all about experimentation! I most assuredly plan to go back, as there are several dishes I want to try. Really wanted to keep liking this place. Had great experiences the last 2 times I've been here. Service tonight was terrible. Our server was MIA despite an extremely thin crowd. Nearly 50 min after our arrival our appetizer has yet to arrive and the other two at our table are totally done with theirs and we'd been sitting at the table with empty drinks and empty plates for 20 min. This is a really cute little place hidden near the square. My girlfriend and I went here for dinner and actually contemplated leaving once we saw their prices. We're a nontraditional Japanese restaurant featuring a wide variety of dishes with Asian and Southwest flair, and while some folks might be tempted to call us a fusion place, we don't want to be too gimmicky. Instead, we say we provide fun, fresh meals that are innovative, delicious, and not too fussy -- a little something for everyone! And because we want Komodo Loco to be a place where you can hang out and enjoy the atmosphere just as much as you do our shareable tapas and specialty cocktails, we've put a lot of time and effort into cultivating good vibes around here. I recently visited this spot in downtown Denton, and from the moment I walked in, it had more of a pub-like or American restaurant vibe which wasn't too surprising. I had heard a lot of good things about their ramen, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The broth was non existent and overall flavor was just okay, nothing that I couldn't make instantly at home . I added chicken, which was also average. The blackened shrimp with Caesar salad, on the other hand, was a pleasant surprise. The shrimp were well-seasoned, and the overall dish worked nicely. I appreciated that our server was friendly and flexible, allowing us to make a few customizations to our order. While the sushi options didn't really appeal to me this time, I do plan to come back and try a few other items that caught my eye especially the Poké Bowl, the Komodo Tower, and maybe the Bayou Tower. Overall, not a bad experience. There's potential, and I'm curious to explore more of the menu on my next visit. read more

This place was a big part of my decision to move to Denton. I lived in San Francisco for 16 years and got used to really excellent Japanese food. Moving to TX, I was bummed about losing the cuisine. Komodo Loco is not only top notch ramen, but the service and ambiance is second to none. Music is always on point, the servers, bar tenders, and management are attentive and engaged, and there's rarely a wait. Special call out to Nate, who's style, conversation, and service are a huge part of what makes this place special. I added some fresh spicy relish to it and it was amazing! I also had one of their signature cocktails that was really unique & good. One of the owners stopped by our table & told me they could customize some other menu items to avoid the meat/seafood for me. My husband had sushi and raved about it!
