So my friend ordered the smoke ramen and it looked great until we noticed some things: the noodles looked like prepackaged noodles from a ramen cup and some were stuck together, the egg was barely cooked and raw yoke spilled into the broth, and the only good part was the pork. I had tempura and miso soup. The miso soup was not good. It was salty, overbearing and murky. The shrimp tempura was barely fried. The shrimp had a weird taste/smell like old seafood. It came with some kind of sauce that tasted like straight horseradish. I'm pretty sure the two of us had 6 cups of water to wash what food we did eat. The service was nice and the interior was original, but this was not the best execution. Leaving a place nauseous and queasy doesn't make me want to come back. read more

Great experiences both times we visited. First time we had the kimchi egg rolls to start. Always looking for a kimchi fix. We got the pork totchos with kimchi and the dragon fire rolls. Next time we got the pork dumpling appetizer. For our main course we got the pork belly ramen bowl and Loco dragon rolls. All the food has been amazing. Great flavors and we left satisfied. The service has been very nice and helpful. Great with recommendations and nice to novice ramen eaters like myself. Will definitely come back because there is plenty left we want to try. read more

This spot is one of my favorite spots in Denton. Great for date nights and bringing friends who are from out of town. The portion sizes are great and you definitely get what you pay for as far as quality. Met the owner one night while sitting at the bar with my partner, and he was such a genuinely nice guy and offered us some great beer recommendations! Ok, this was my wife and I's first time here. We had no idea what order. Nathan, our waiter, was AWESOME! When you go, ask for Nathan, you won't be disappointed! He steered us in the right direction. My wife and I are always skeptical about sushi places in TX since we've lived in CA where the raw fish is fresh from the coast; but this place has exceeded our expectations. We ordered the Mean Green sushi, Miso Hungry sushi, Smoked Ramen soup with smoked pork, Komodo Tuna Tower (another couple things I can't remember), and the Fried Cream Cheese Sopaipilla for dessert--just wanted to get a taste of it all. We were thinking that at least one would disappoint however every dish was solid! Really great food and the service was awesome too. Were originally placed outside in the patio area and it started raining... Our waiter Nathan personally gave us his raincoat while ensuring a table would be ready for us; one of the managers came by with his 6 month old baby to say hi to us as we'll. I ordered a couple of things for take out and was pretty disappointed. When the bag was handed to me I kept it upright the whole time exactly how the server handed it to me, but when I got home somehow the liquid from the spicy edamame leaked out all over the other contents in my bag. When we got to our ramen bowls, we were let down yet again. The noodles were clumped together and tough, and altogether really hard to eat. It looked like they'd just come out of a refrigerated packet then flopped into the bowl. Neither my boyfriend or I finished, which is unfortunate considering we are ramen lovers. Not to mention the fact that it was more expensive than any other authentic ramen we've had. I also was not happy with the call when I ordered--the woman who answered hung up as I was saying thank you, which I thought was pretty rude. She was nice when we picked up the food, but the customer service could be better. read more

Found this place through some random FB post and took a look at the menu. Decided that we must go here when we visit UNT. So we did. It did NOT disappoint. We ordered a good variety since we really wanted to get a true feel for the food. The pulled piggy tots are delicious. Great flavors with excellent pulled pork. The chipotle aioli was the capper. Delish! Gyoza was good. Sauce was better. Had a couple bao that were great. The pork belly was tasty, but the smoke tofu special (which I would normally never order) was special and unique. The highlight of the meal was clearly the Bayou Tower! The presentation is beautiful and the taste is beyond amazing. The blend of flavors makes you wanting more. This is a must order. If you don't like the crawfish, get the Komodo Tower. Can't go wrong. If you like fusion restaurants, this place is for you. While they do have sushi, I would NOT call this a sushi restaurant. Coming from Chicago, I'm used to excellent food places. This would fit right in! Going to Denton? Go to Komodo Loco and just have fun with the menu! read more

By no means is this place any higher than 2 stars, we would eat there again but not soon. I didn't know exactly what to expect on our first visit to Komodo Loco and it was even better than I hoped it would be. The menu has many great choices and is not constructed like an encyclopedia. We tried a little bit of everything and we absolutely loved our choices. The staff was very friendly and made the dining experience very comfortable and satisfying. I don't have one thing in particular to recommend because everything we tried was fantastic, so ask questions and try a little of everything and share with the table. The other reviewers have this place nailed with how yummy it is. We had two of their appetizers, the kimchi deviled eggs and the duck drumsticks. Those duck drumsticks are amazing, fried the most perfect fry I've probably ever had, and the flavor was spot on. I thought the deviled eggs were unique and tasty but if I had it to do over again I would have just ordered two orders of the duck to share with my husband instead. Each order comes with four drumsticks and a yin yang dish of sauce. I enjoyed combining the two sauces together. I also really loved putting their house chili on the duck legs. Their house chili is delicious and is made with three kinds of chilis and a house vinegar. Tasted like pickled spicy chili and I would buy that just to have in my fridge at home. We also had their Komodo Tuna Tower which, when brought to the table, was torn apart with two forks by our waitress (she asked if we would like to do it or have her, we've never done this before so we had her) and she proceeded to mix everything together. This dish was delicious. I've never personally had raw tuna before, but I won't be so shy to order it in the future as it practically melted in my mouth. I forget what dressing they have drizzled on it but it was really tasty. The caviar gave a nice mouth feel pop as well. We also ordered the ramen bowl with pork belly and I will agree that the broth lacked strong flavor by itself. I was instructed to add a spoonful of the sauce they serve it with to add depth and saltiness and it really did deepen the flavor. I was not a personal fan of the corn added in though as that brought a sweetness I didn't think the dish needed. The soft boiled eggs really gave it a silky texture that I loved. The pork belly was tasty. While we were finishing dinner our friendly and helpful waitress asked if we would like to hear their dessert options. I was surprised to hear they have dessert! We ordered the banana bourbon cheesecake egg rolls that come topped with a strawberry sauce. These were yummy but not necessarily something I would have to have. My two favorite things I had tonight that would have me coming back would be those duck legs and the tuna tower. I would 100% recommend coming to Komodo Loco for a meal. I think it would be fun to go with a group of four people so you could split the appetizers and sushi and get to try many things. It would be hard to share the ramen bowl though. I would like to go back and try their house specialty drinks too. The decor reminded me of New Mexico and I loved that as well. I hope this place sticks around! read more

It's wonderful to see a concept that has so much thought put into it. From the menu and drinks to the decor and flatware, it's clear that the owners and staff are living a passion with purpose. My family and I went on a Saturday afternoon and were impressed with the Poke bowl and the Ramen was delicious! Salmon rolls the kids got were made to order, and beautiful. Select local craft beer from Denton, unique cocktails, and even the kids soda wasn't ordinary, but organic craft made! Staff were friendly and fun, and very helpful to recommend their favorites based on what you like. I would highly recommend Komodo Loco, wish them all the best, and will see them again in the future. Found this place last night and had a great meal. All we ate was off menu so don't know when/if it will be offered again. We had duck wings with Korean BBQ, spicy and sweet. I honestly would never come back to this restaurant if the food wasn't so good. But good food isn't the only thing that gets you 5 stars. Out of the past two years I've never had a good server here. Every server is slow and rude. The last two times I've visited the restaurant I've been served the wrong food, had my friend's accused of lying about their party size, and been charged gratuity on small bills without notice because our server didn't think we would tip him. ( Even though we clearly ALL work in the service industry.) I've been given meat items after EXPLICITLY having conversations with my sever about being vegan. ( This had happened on more than one occasion.) This place could be SOOOO amazing. But they need to train their staff more and be more respectful of their customers. read more

This spot is spot on. and the staff is very friendly. Everything was fresh, and the textures were all where they needed to be. Casual, so it fits the Denton community, bit you would feel okay dressing up as well of you feel like it. I had Komodo Loco's Loco Dragon with shrimp, cream cheese, strawberry, avocado, crab, and creamy/spicy eel sauce swirled on top, and a cucumber salad with garlic Thai sauce. Really friendly staff who will explain everything to you. I love the vibe and decor here. The music they play is amazing too. My husband loves the ramen. One word of caution, their peanut sauce is more lime than peanut. I prefer peanut flavor, but it is still good. Will be coming back often. read more

My husband and I love Komodo. It's become one of our favorite restaurants since moving to Denton. We probably eat from there at least once a week. I get a salmon poke bowl with traditional sauce and my husband gets the fried rice bowl with bulgogi beef and Korean bbq sauce. We really haven't had anything from here we didn't like. I would highly recommend Komodo to anyone who enjoys sushi or Japanese food with a twist. My only criticism is the consistency. I use to be a chef and consistently is the most important part about cooking in a restaurant. Every time I get a salmon poke bowl the level of spice is different. I prefer the traditional sauce since it's not spicy but today it was so spicy I can barely eat it. This is also true for the sauce that comes with the gyoza. The first time I tried it the sauce was perfect and almost every time since then it's tasted different. It's been so spicy before I had to send it back and I don't make a habit out of sending food back. I know we will continue to eat at Komodo none the less but I would be much happier if the kitchen was more consistent with their recipes. If you work in the kitchen at Komodo and read this please pass it on to your executive chef. I truly love this restaurant and want to see it continue to succeed. read more
