TONGA TOAST. POG JUICE. Those are the two most important reasons to come to the Kona Cafe. If you are thinking about getting anything besides Tonga Toast and POG juice you are making a big mistake. HUGE. Truly nothing is as good as pouring that hot strawberry sauce onto a giant sugary french toast cube stuffed with bananas. I don't even particularly like bananas. But I like them surrounded by sugar bread. Also there is no better drink than POG juice. I live in NYC and can never get any so I go pretty hard when I can get it. Like 4 glasses of juice hard. It's just so delicious and refreshing. The cafe itself is small but nice and the employees are always kind. They do have other food but I'm not sure why you would care if it isn't the Tonga Toast. The toast itself is so huge that I usually split it if other people I'm with are interested. Also the Polynesian is gorgeous and it's worth it to come here and just wanted around. Must have spot for breakfast on your Disney trip! There are only two things you need to know Tonga toast and macadamia nut pancakes. There is no need to read the menu, just order those two items and you'll have an amazing Disney breakfast. Tonga toast- cinnamon rolled, banana stuffed toasted seved with a side of strawberry compote. Macadamia nut pancakes- pancakes topped with pineapple and macadamia nut butter. On my most recent visit I had a wasabi bloody mary and mimosa flight to wash it down. Yum! Note: mimosa flight is not on the menu so be sure to ask your server. I find myself very interested in tiki culture at this stage in life so of course we had to stop by the Polynesian Resort to at least look around and get dinner. The resort itself is spendy to stay at but all of their stores and restaurants are easy to get to either by bus or monorail for all Disney guests. Kona Cafe is the smaller option to the more popular restaurant at the resort (Ohana) but it is a little easier to get in to and still offers a fun, Hawaiian inspired experience. It is located on the second level of the breathtaking Ceremonial Hall right at the center of the resort. Do yourself a favor and give yourself some time to walk around the building and peek into the stores and such, it is very cool. No tiki inspired experience would be complete without a tiki drink in hand and Kona Cafe does not disappoint. The menu is basically a little booklet filled with wildly colored and fruit flavored concoctions. Even the kiddos can get a fun blue fruity drink for themselves while the parents can imbibe on their own liquid island getaway. The menu consists of an assortment of Asian Pacific favorite dishes like sushi, poke' bowls, dashi bowls, fried rice, and for the non-adventurous - burgers and steak. I had the Duck Confit Fried Rice and it was absolutely amazing - rich and flavorful and served with a savory,crunchy duck egg roll. My wife tried the Polly Lolly Roll from the sushi bar and it was also very good and offered something very unique that cannot be found at other sushi establishments. Came here for lunch on a Monday. We made This reservation 2 months in advance through the Disney app which I highly recommend as we got sat right away. Experience was OK. Don't get the poke bowls if you're hungry because the portion size was very small but it was still good. The duck rice bowl was good, the banh mi was also good but lacked sauce. The service was ok, the waitress was a bit slow on everything. Food also took awhile to get out, we waited for maybe 35-40 minutes. The whole experience was less impressive than I was expecting. This was my favorite meal and restaurant on our most recent trip and one of my favorite of all time at the Walt Disney World resort. I had meant to try breakfast last year when we stayed at the Polynesian before our Disney Cruise and missed out. I ha heard from multiple sources that you need to try the Tonga Toast. So this trip I made sure o take advantage of the opportunity of a non-park day and give it a try. I of course got the Tonga Toast, Spiced Ham & Liliko'i Juice. The Tonga Toast fully lived up to expectations and more. Tonga Toast is banana stuffed French toast covered in cinnamon sugar served with strawberry compote. It was good with syrup, by itself and excellent with the compote. Liliko'i juice is a blend of Orange, Passion Fruit & Guava. Really good as well. The Spiced Ham was slightly better than typical breakfast ham but was greatly overshadowed. The service was ok but not what you expect at Disney, The only reason this is not a 5 star. DO NOT GO. You may be thinking "but it's so easy, it's in the hotel." Just don't. Spending $10 on Chex mix in the gift shop and eating in your room is a far superior experience. We had every intention of being here at breakfast time for our good-old standby the Tonga Toast. Unfortunately, we missed the cut off by about 15 minutes and ended up with the lunch menu. That may sound bad, but honestly, I prefer their breakfasts here. They're a great way to sugared up and ready to walk the marathon - that is, seeing Disney World. We recently ate at Kona (4 adults), I had the steak, most expensive item on the menu ($40), my wife had and enjoyed the salmon, my daughter and husband had the braised beef and really liked it. As for me, the steak was absolutely not worth the price, fatty and not very tasty. I compare it to a breakfast place that serves steak and eggs. Very disappointing for sure. Recently I took my daughter her husband and my grandchildren to dinner at Kona Cafe and was pleasantly surprised! The customer service was exemplary from the hostess to the waiter to the food runners. All very pleasant and mindful of our parties ages and interests. The food was superb. My sushi was perfect temperature, fresh and pleasingly displayed and very tasty. I was also quite impressed with the children's sushi plate consisting of chicken nuggets wrapped with rice as a sushi roll, very creative and quite yummy according to my grandson of almost 3 years old. So we stopped in here on our way back home from a weekend trip to Disney. This place always has seats so it is good in a pinch. It the food is unique and tasty as well. We started with a pot sticker. It was on big pot sticker! Fried with all the typical stuff inside very good and the sauce was very nice. Great start to the mewl. I then had the duck fried rice with leg confit. Pretty good. I did add some soy garlic I kick it up a bit and the duck was a little dry but overall solid. Debbie has the surf n turf roll. It looked good and she liked it. Reservation time 8:05pm. We were sat at 8:30pm Our sever was Maribel. She was so friendly and attentive. We got the sweet pineapple bread service. Then we had the sticky wings and pork-vegetable pot stickers. The pot stickers were delicious. In came out in a pancake shape, fried. It was tasty and crisp. The wings were just okay. I can't recommend this place enough! Been coming to Disney for years and this is one of the best meals I've ever had. The potstickers were truly delicious and the sushi was so fresh and flavorful. Beyond what I'd expect from a place like Disney. Our server Victoria was fantastic and gave great recommendations and went above and beyond to make our meal comfortable and accommodate all our requests. Let me begin with if you haven't been here in a while, you're going to be extremely upset. The food portions have down sized and the menu was changed. Not like one or two items, no the entire menu. Maybe Kona had been hyped too much by a friend, but I was really underwhelmed. The decor is pretty cool, and it's an 'open air' cafe so you can see the rest of the Polynesian resort. The menu looked good, and seemed to have many of the staples (burger, sandwich, platter, etc.) with a Polynesian take. Our server was very slow, from beginning to end. We had to wait once we were seated, then halfway through taking our orders she stopped to get an allergy menu for one person in our party, brought it, then walked away. She did not come to check in once our food arrived (someone else brought it), and we sat waiting for a very long time to get the check. It was not that busy. The food was good enough. I had sushi, which was pretty much your standard sushi, and some potstickers, which had a good flavor. One of our friends had a soy allergy, which is pretty hard to avoid in Asian food. The server did bring her an allergy menu, which, while helpful, didn't specifically address soy (I get that soy isn't as common of an allergy). She did try to suggest some options, like getting stir fry without the sauce, but my friend just didn't see anything she wanted to try (not our server's fault). I did chuckle a bit when the server suggested she could get the stir fry made with tofu, though (tofu is full of soy). This is my go to place for breakfast in Disney. The service is excellent. I enjoy getting the macadamia nut pancakes which are enough to share with two people. Their coffee is also good. So don't bother paying more for the Kona coffee French press. If you can't get your 'Ohana ADR, you might end up at Kona. The restaurant is open to the 2nd floor/atrium of the Poly lobby, which can be nice as you get to see past the decor of the restaurant itself, which is kind of a warm brown and orange blur. We were seated near the large windows on the lobby entrance wall which afforded a lovely view of the tropical landscaping out front, but also a view of the cast members walking to and from their entrance. Menu has an edited selection of what you may find in many sushi joints in the US. We ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll (add avocado), Shrimp Fire Cracker Roll, Coconut Curry Seafood Soup, and Turkey Bahn Mi, along with a couple of beers. We received the complimentary yummy Hawaiian bread with Macadamia nut butter for a starter. Our server was polite but lacked the warmth, promptness, and attention to detail we expect from the Poly. Tuna sushi arrived without the avocado, but our daughter was so hungry she decided to just eat it instead of sending it back. The soup was just delicious, but had cooled to a temperature that was just at the threshold of acceptable. Fire Cracker Roll and the Bahn Mi were delicious and as expected. The 2 sushi rolls were extremely overpriced for what we received- tuna roll was a standard 8 piece silver dollar sized small roll for $18 (over $2 per piece!!) and the Fire Cracker Roll was one of those "too big for its own good" in circumference rolls that you have to partially deconstruct in order to eat a piece, and also wildly overpriced at $28. At our local "fancy" sushi restaurant, these rolls would have been $6 and $13 respectively. We weren't on the DDP, so the bill was over $100. Far too much for the total package. Only upshot is the complimentary resort parking (with no time limited hang tag) that came as a result of having the ADR. We used that to resort-hop around the monorail for the afternoon. read more

Some appetizers from Ohana'a menu can be offered here. The potstickers are a must. Great texture, great flavor. They steam but also pan sear the potstickers. We used to stay at the Polynesian back when it was sort of affordable, but since the refurbishment it's now out of my price range. That doesn't mean we can't enjoy the perks of Polynesian, so after a short bus ride, we were eating at Kona. Let me start by saying the sushi is amazing. I had a hamachi and tuna roll for an appetizer and split it with my husband. It was so good I could have eaten it all by myself. The rest of the food was just okay. I had the stir-fried noodles with chicken made spicy. It was just okay. The noodles were gummy from being overcooked. The veggies in the stir fry were really good and super crispy. My youngest daughter got potstickers, which were good. My issue is that you only get 4 and it's $9. That's Disney for you. My oldest got the stir-fried noodles with tofu. She had the same feeling as me...it was just okay. I love the Polynesian but don't think I'd go out of my way to eat at Kona in the future. I'll just go to Kona Island and enjoy some sushi and sake instead. read more

This is my "must have" breakfast when Im at Disney World. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of Disney's Polynesian Resort and their claim to fame is their Tonga Toast. We came here just for dessert so that's what this review is based on. If you've ever been to O'Hana they serve a lot of the same items here. We wanted the bread pudding so thats what we came here for. Thankfully they were able to accommodate us as walkup guests at 9pm. Thomas was great and made us feel welcome even though it was late in the evening. To clarify, this is a review of their breakfast. It used to be one of our gotos, particularly the macadamia pancakes, truly a unique experience. First time back since pan, and the menu appears to be more limited; however, the server told us there are a few unlisted items, so I went with one, the sampler. I swapped the French toast for double pancakes ( the sampler ones include the delicious butter and pineapples but not the macadamias, yet are still delightful) .
