I went to Kona Cafe for dinner and really enjoyed it. I highly recommend trying the potstickers l, they were delicious! I also had the pork belly noodle bowl, which was also good but had a very peculiar tasting broth that I don't think I would order again. The waiters were very friendly and courteous. The restaurant was all at a visibly lower capacity, with very few customers allowed to stay and eat. A good alternative is to order and pick-up the food if you can't get a reservation. read more

Unfortunately disappointed in the food during my lunch at Kona cafe, unlike the breakfast the lunch is terrible. The only good thing was the Hawaiian bread rolls. We had the shrimp tempura, noddles and tuna bowl. All had issues. Shrimp tempura roll was chewy, hard to eat and not fresh ( avocado was browning on top), noodles were soggy and salty, kinda like a a fake noodles you threw in the microwave and the tuna bowl was not fresh either with more of a fake vibe rather then fresh. Honestly, this place is such a different experience from breakfast to dinner it almost deserves 2 separate reviews. I would give breakfast 4 stars and dinner 2 stars which is why I settled on 3. Let's start with breakfast. My husband and I stayed a night at the Polynesian for my birthday and that meant breakfast at Kona Cafe. Kona is well known for their Tonga Toast. It is a signature item, a French toast stuffed with bananas, rolled in cinnamon and sugar and served with strawberry sauce. It's wonderful. It is very sweet, so I highly recommend splitting it with someone and getting a savory entree as well. That's what we did to avoid a sugar coma. I did find the bread to be a bit thick and the banana a little thin this last time, but I was 9 months pregnant and complained about everything. We also ordered the loco moco. I LOVE loco moco. I discovered this dish 10 years ago when I visited Hawaii and anytime I see it I order it. This one was a bit different because the gravy was a bit unusual, creamy chorizo. It was good gravy. I just would have liked a bit more of it. We also ordered a side of grits and I am so glad we did because they were amazing. They were creamy and that gouda cheese...yummy! My husband looked away and I had eaten over 1/2 of them. Dang they were good! They also have macadamia nut pancakes which look awesome and warrant a return visit for breakfast. Our service was not great for breakfast. We were in no hurry, but I think most people were in a hurry to get to the parks and wanted in and out quickly. Maybe, wait until later if you want a leisurely breakfast because somehow our server managed to make me feel both neglected and rushed. I am decidedly less impressed with the food at dinner, though my service was far superior. The great thing about dinner is the cocktails. We had a lapu lapu and backscratcher, both of which are fun tiki style drinks that I highly recommend. Unfortunately the usually awesome Odwalla lemonade tasted terrible. It was very watered down. For appetizers we ordered sticky wings which were good, but could have been fresher. They sort of tasted like they had been sitting out awhile. The same goes for the potstickers. They tasted a bit cold, but I really enjoy the creamy sauce that is drizzled on the plate. The crab cakes were nothing special My husband had the ahi tuna and said it was fine. I ordered the steak and it was a bit overcooked for my taste, but I feared if I returned it, it would come back too rare. I didn't particularly care for the rub on the steak either. It was dry and the steak needed more sauce than was on the plate. The best thing on the plate was the sweet potatoes. Finally, for dessert I had the mango cheesecake which was excellent for a no sugar added dessert. My dad had the chocolate lava cake. These are so overdone and I don't even like them, but I must admit this one was pretty enjoyable. My mom had the tapioca pudding which was colorful and sweet. I would describe it as a dessert that makes you think you are making a healthier choice. Overall, I love the food at breakfast, but be warned you may get caught in a pre park rush. This review comes from someone who usually stays off Disney property - so it takes just a few more steps to eat at any of the hotel locations such as Kona Café that is at The Polynesian Resort. We made reservations at the last minute and all that was available was 8am. Parking at Magic Kingdom TTC (Ticket and Transportation Center) opened at 7am and we are annual pass holders so we don't pay for parking. If you are staying at the resort I know you have to pay for parking but if you are staying off property and have a reservation scheduled they will not charge you for parking while staying at the resort for breakfast. The Polynesian resort was a short walk from the TTC and I highly recommend the short walk through easily marked pathway as the line for monorail at resort and TTC was much longer than just a 5-10 min walk down the pathway to the Kona Café. We arrived at 7:45a and checked in, many seats available at this time but were sat right at 8am. The bloody mary flight was good, minimal alcohol content FYI. I was jealous of my husband's mimosa flight which was in my opinion the better option - you pick 3 juices and all were fresh and bubbly. I got the Macadamia pineapple pancakes with ham, which was very underwhelming. The pancakes were average, the pineapple tasted like it was from a can. There were macadamia nuts in pancakes and sprinkled on top. The ham wasn't great - also tasted old or frozen and was dry and even lacking in flavor which is hard to do with ham. My husband got the tonga toast. The outside layer was covered with a tasty, buttery cinnamon sugar layer which tasted like a cinnamon sugar donut which I really enjoyed. The inner layer was filled with banana and that is just not my favorite flavor profile - ripe banana is not my thing. The pancakes and tonga toast were served with maple syrup and butter as well as s strawberry compote with the tonga toast. I didn't try my husband's sausage but it did look like a better option than the ham or spiced ham (Spam). Our favorite experience at breakfast was the Kona press coffee for 2 which I highly recommend. The coffee was hot and robust and just a perfect way to start the day. They offer a 10% off Annual pass discount and pricing was reasonable for Disney location. Service was quick and friendly but food was overall just average. This is 4 stars relative to all dining options at Disney, as opposed to dining options in general if that makes sense. The staff (cast members in food service) are kind. We ate here twice while staying at the Polynesian Resort. The first time the service was less than typical. We waited 30 minutes past our reservation time. The table next to us complained about it and got tons of free stuff but I am opposed to getting free things for complaining. The service was rushed and our server didn't refresh our drinks. I ordered the New York strip and it was fabulous. Truly a quality steak. My husband got the pork chop and it knocked his socks off. Both my kids liked their kids meal. We also ate here for breakfast and I had one of the tastiest breakfasts I have ever had! It's called the Samoan and it blew me away. Deep in the heart of the Disney's Polynesian Resort is Kona Cafe. To me, The Polynesian is a resort that I go only to eat, I've never stayed here. Why? it's an OG hotel from when the park first opened in the early 70's. It's like Michael Brady designed the hotel. It's clean mind you but it has that Brady bunch, 70s dark wood feel. I walked on the beach from the Grand Floridian once to here as well as used the Monorail service. Well, walk, run, fly. jog, however you get here, come here for a pot of coffee. Kona coffee After drinking crap coffee all week on your vacation, this is a little treat for all you coffee lovers. They serve breakfast here that is also off the chain. If you haven't heard of "Tonga Toast" I'll tell you. it's Banana-stuffed Sourdough French Toast rolled in Cinnamon Sugar. (I'd say it's 2000 calories) It's so sooo good. My wife usually gets a fruit cup and coffee but my oldest will get the "Big Kahuna" Pancakes topped with Pineapple Sauce and Macadamia Nut Butter, Eggs, Home-fried Potatoes, Ham, Bacon, and Sausage (4000 calories??) My Friend John Panda, who is a Disney Vlogger has spoken numerous times about the food so while I was at the resort I decided to go check this place out. Our waiter, Bob was friendly but tired, he took our order for a Press Pot of Kona Coffee (YES! KONA COFFEE!!!), the Tonga Toast and the Big Kahuna. While we waited, we people watched and I played with a little baby who was toddling outside the wrought iron barrier and looking so cute in his matching Hawaiian outfit! When the food came, it was good. The Tonga Toast: A HUGE slab of Sourdough bread, stuffed with bananas, deep fried, dusted with cinnamon sugar, served with strawberry compote, maple syrup and macadamia nut "Butter". (Butter is in quotes, because it was margarine. BUTTER is BUTTER, not this cheap imitation) The Big Kahuna was: French Toast, Pancakes topped with Pineapple Sauce and Macadamia Nut Butter, Eggs, Home-fried Potatoes, Ham, Bacon, and Sausage. This is one of my most frequented restaurants for breakfast. The Polynesian is a gorgeous Disney resort, so I like to pair this place with enjoying the grounds afterwards for a full experience. My husband always gets the Loco Moco (not the vegetarian version...the real deal). It's consistently delicious. I alternate between the Tonga toast, the macadamia pancakes, and the Big Kahuna Breakfast which a mix of these plus French Toast and some sides. We always get a side of the grits too which are so so good. Of course, the main attraction of this place for me, is the French pressed Kona coffee. If you like coffee even a little, you have to try it. It puts any regular coffee you've had to shame. Whereas the experience isn't luxurious by any means, if you enjoy tropical vibes, you'll enjoy walking around the Polynesian before/after (I suggest after since I always leave here full and need to walk it off). There's a beautiful little beach last the main pool area that overlooks the lake and Cinderella's castle (also a great place to watch the fireworks if you're there at night). Anyways, let's not turn this into a review of the Polynesian. If you like good breakfast food and delicious Kona coffee, give this place a try. Reservations are the way to go since it's pretty popular. We've had success with the walk up option the one time we visited during the week without a reservation, as well. We were at Magic Kingdom one day and decided to hop onto the Monorail and try out Kona Cafe. We quickly and easily made lunch time reservations on the Disney Experience app and were on our way. We were seated quickly and decided on a Kona flight and a Kona draft for my BH. My daughter had the kids portion of Pasta with Turkey Marinara and a side of fresh green beans. The kids portion was HUGE! My BH, son, and I decided to get the Kona Sampler Large and the Asian Stir Fry. The fish was very fresh and the portions again were ample. Ohana is one of my favorite places to eat at Walt Disney World but to eat there you need a reservation and they are not easy to come by (to put it mildly). It's probably closer to nightmare status trying to get a reservation to eat there. On the other hand, the restaurant right next to it doesn't have that problem. We decided to give Kona Cafe a shot when we couldn't get into Ohana and it ended up being an enjoyable dinner. Don't get me wrong, Ohana is still the top choice but this didn't feel like a huge step down. Unlike Ohana, Kona Cafe is a regular meal set up where you order individual dishes off of the menu. While the offerings lean towards the Asian side, with poke bowls and Sushi available, there are also standard offerings such as burgers. The bread pudding at Ohana is one of my favorite desserts and I read a tip that you can actually order it at Kona Cafe even though it is not on their menu. I wasn't sure if it would work, but the waiter said it wouldn't be a problem and we got to have it! Overall I think this restaurant is a solid choice. I have been to this restaurant a few times before, and for some reason, the food was not up to par last night. The Hawaiian rolls tasted store bought. The crab cakes were dry and didn't have a sauce. The coffee was cold. The only decent thing we had was the burger. That burger is ENOURMOUS! I would say it's enough to feed two people. It is topped with a sunny side up egg, a great aioli, greens, and a big chunk of pork belly. DELISH!! Wow!! This place is amazing...it's known for its Tonga Toast--at least according to Yelp bwahaha! We came in the morning and were luckily seated when a previous reservation canceled (this place is always crowded so reservations are recommended, as with the other restaurants at the Polynesian Resort). For being in the Disneyworld vicinity, the prices are very reasonable (with the exception of the Tiki-something juice, more on that later). Tonga toast: Wow. Mini pitchers of butter, maple syrup, and strawberry puree (delicious puree...reminds me of jam, but in liquid form and with some fresh strawberries in the mix). The toast itself is a giant brick toast, and the browned, crispy outer hides banana gems in the middle of its fluffy inner...Delicious, though VERY filling! Big Kahuna: It's more or less a sampler plate of almost everything they offer. My bf inhaled the French toast--with an extra helping of maple syrup. The sausages are slightly sweet and salty, but not overly salty. The eggs were, well, eggs? Only complaint was that the ham was a bit dry, but considering the rest of the meal was amazing, it's not a huge deal. Fruit plate: I was honestly expecting some crappy dinky bowl of fruit like I normally see at other restaurants, but they carried out a giant hollowed pineapple filled with wonderful fruity bounty and enough grapes to fill up the other half of the giant plate! I think I'm better off with water (I'm pretty sensitive to sweetened juices). Kona coffee: Smelled heavenly. Dark, rich, and as comfortable as a cozy fireplace with toasted marshmallows on a wintry night. Giant pitcher too...If you're not huge coffee drinkers, this may actually satiate 3-4 people instead of 2. Overall, Kona Cafe is great and everything tastes exactly how it looks (great!). A reservation for breakfast at this place is a must while at Disney. Before heading to the parks, I love eating a big hearty breakfast. First, I love the theme of the Polynesian hotel. The overall ambiance while in this open cafe is very calming with waterfall sounds and rainforest surrounding. The service was very friendly and we were all seated promptly. Once we were seated, we ordered kona coffee, guava juice blend, and a berry smoothie. All was excellent and there's nothing like tropical juice and great coffee to start off the vacation. We then ordered tonga toast, Samoan, big kahuna, and steak and eggs. All the dishes were well cooked and well seasoned. But it's worth a ride on the monorail or a taxi to get there, then an easy monorail ride to Magic Kingdom or Epcot when you're done! The first few trips I had a problem - pineapple macadamia nut pancakes OR the Tonga Toast. I've solved that problem recently and now simply order both, eat half (or more) of each and am happy as a clam!! The pineapple macadamia nut pancakes are heavenly. TONS of fresh pineapple and nuts, huge portion. Delish! The Tonga Toast is a huge piece of cinnamon sugar French toast stuffed with fresh bananas and served with a fresh strawberry purée to pour over the top. Also delish. I'm telling you - if you aren't dining with somebody who promises to order whichever you don't, just order them both for yourself. I They're worth it and it'll save the stress of deciding. This is one of the best and most underrated restaurants at Walt Disney World. We make sure to grab breakfast here every time we visit. The service and food is always incredible, and it is fairly easy to snag a reservation. Located on the second floor of the Grand Ceremonial House at Disney's Polynesian Resort, Kona Cafe provides the bonus perk of easy access to the Magic Kingdom since there is a monorail stop right outside! We go for a 7:30am reservation and are able to make it to Magic Kingdom for role drop. The Liliko'i Juice is a must try- a refreshing blend of orange, passion fruit, and guava juice. You can get it in mimosa form as well! The Hawaiian Kona Coffee Press Pot is great. A French press is delivered right to your table and you have delicious fresh coffee. A serious must have before hitting the parks. My top choices for food are the Macadamia Nut Pancakes topped with delicious pineapple, and the Seven Seas Samoan- poached eggs covered in citrus hollandaise over a turkey, pulled pork, and potato hash and topped with arugula in a citrus vinaigrette. The Tonga Toast is excellent as well. Top both that and the pancakes with the strawberry purée sauce...mmm. For sides, definitely go with the cheesy grits! I've yet to try lunch or dinner here, but would love to when we inevitably return. read more

This was an amazing brunch on our first day in the area. I love the theme of the whole resort - very well done! I had to try the Tonga Toast which was delicious - like a cross between french toast and churros! Also, they have allergy-friendly Mickey waffles! It's pretty much what you should expect from a captive audience restaurant in a hotel. The fact that's it's not cheap and on a Disney property make it worse in my opinion. Pot sticker come stuck together and are presented upside down so they looked like a weird pancake at first. They weren't disgusting, but they weren't great either. Bland flavor and soggy texture. the portion was larger than I expected. Sushi rolls - the surf n turf roll had none of the flavor described on the menu. It was overpowered by cracked pepper in the low quality roast beef on top of the roll. The California roll did have a hint of citrus, but was otherwise underwhelming. If gas station sushi had a retarded cousin, this is it. Reuben sandwich - had been sitting under the head lamp long enough for the bottom to go soggy and enunciate the staleness of the top piece. Filling had more pulled pork than anything and was lacking in flavor. Fries were the best part of the dish. Appetizer bread has coconut in it so I did not partake. Burger gets an honorable mention with the big piece of fried cheese. Funny smell, service is less than average, food is expensive and sub par. Two friends and I stopped into Kona Cafe on the monorail after exiting Magic Kingdom on a Tuesday night. The park gets busy at night so I like to take the monorail towards the resorts instead of towards the ticketing center in order to avoid the crowds. It's Disney, so you can expect phenomenal and personable service that will make you feel like you're a Princess. While the decor of the hotel itself is obviously over the top and impressive, the restaurant itself is totally understated. The menu was newly revamped and frankly, if I hadn't stuffed my face with Mickey cake pops throughout the entire day, I probably would have asked for one of everything. There are exciting options from sushi to dashi poached fish. I ordered the tuna poke which came with passion fruit popping boba and a nori crisp. The nori crisp was surprisingly spicy and added an enjoyable contrasting texture to the soft tuna. I looooved the passion fruit boba. Each bite was a pop of acidity and tartness which was totally unique. read more

Pretty good--the food is generally ok. Not as great as some of the other restaurants on property, but they have some nice, fresh and healthy dishes to choose from. Pretty good food, nothing extravagant, but good. Service good, ambiance is good too, but not an "experience". Okay for dinner, lunch, breakfast at resort, not anything special in my opinion. I would go to O'hana or downstairs for Tonga toast if I wanted excellent! #IFTKYK Happy day! read more
