I went here in the early evening and it wasn't too crowded but it was very noisy. I was seated at a small table near the bar and it took the waitress a while to get around to me. I was ready to order so I got the calamari appetizer, the sushi and salad combo, and a coke zero. The food was brought out fairly quickly. The calamari and peppers were good, but the rest was somewhat of a disappointment. The sushi roll I had was the Crab Crunch and it was buried under tempura flakes. It tasted ok. The asian salad was pretty much a cilantro salad because that's all I could taste. The pieces of shrimp, tuna, and salmon nigiri were basically grocery store sushi. My drink was pretty much all ice with a splash of soda in it. The bill with a tip was about $52. The food is way overpriced for what you get. I was out of here in about 30 minutes and I don't plan on coming back. read more

The website says there's parking on site- that's a lie. You have to find a paid parking garage/lot nearby. Our waiter was super friendly & pleasant, but service was so incredibly slow (we received our appetizers before our drinks from the bar, and our waters after all of that). There was no wait to be sat and the dining room is very cozy. We tried the calamari (had a good kick to it, which made the lack of drinks more noticeable, but way overpriced for quantity), sweet-chili glazed salmon (excellent), and the Prime Rib (very dry & tasteless). The miso mashed potatoes would be great, they're just too dry. Drinks were fantastic. Electric lemonade and patio bubbles were delicious. We probably won't come back because the food was mostly a miss, but it'd be a nice place to stop for a drink before going somewhere else. read more

The short version: Aishah could've been one of the worst servers I've ever had. Bad food. Bad service. Bad attitude. The long version: We visited Kona Grill two years ago and really looked forward to visiting again, since we were in the area. The experience this time was the polar opposite of what it was for us last time. It started the minute we sat down. We were seated in the back area of the restaurant. Aishah took so long to come get our drink order, that we were ready to order food too by the time she came. No apology, but whatever. I can look past that. When our drinks finally came out (we both ordered sprite), we quickly noticed that we were given tonic water. Me, thinking it was just a mistake, waited another 10 minutes for miss Aishah to come back to the table. When she finally came back, another ten minutes later, no apology. Instead, she said they "probably ran out of sprite so just used that instead." Okay Aishah, did we forget the part where that's not what we ordered? From there, she could tell I was getting more irritated by the minute, so must've informed her manager. Before her manager came out, we started receiving our meals. I was missing my California roll. (You guessed it: no apology) When the manager came around, she didn't apologize for anything either, including my missing California roll. But don't worry, I had ICE COLD GREEN BEANS to hold me over until my California roll finally arrived. When Aishah finally showed back up, I verified that my "sprite" wouldn't be on the bill." Because of her attitude, we wanted to get our stuff boxed up, get the check, and leave. When I asked for the check, she stomped away without saying a word. When she came back with the bill, she had the nerve to say "Sorry you didn't like your sprite." No Aishah, I could've dealt with the tonic water. But your attitude SINGLE-HANDEDLY makes me wish I paid $111 for Wendy's instead of for your crappy service and experience. Needless to say, we forgot Aisha's tip just like she forgot half our meal. read more

Probably one of the most laughable and horrible experiences I have had in 20 years or so. Showed up after an Os game....nobody there....there confusion as to where to seat us....this isn't difficult, there were only 3 tables with patrons... We get met by a nice young man (who was the bartender.....takes our drink order etc... (side bar...you can tell they are stuggling when you are out of Titos) then a young lady who smelled like she was as high as a kite greeted us and seemed surprised we had drink orders in already. Shortly after that point we ended up being in the middle of an associate standoff on who's table we were. I made our point clear in a professional manor....we just wanted to eat. Those problems are not, or should not be, anything a patrons knows about. Manager comes over and talks about having to babysit young people. Didn't comp us even a piece of bread. Just an absolute horrible experience. And the pricing?!?!?!?! You can go to higher end places in Harbor East and pay less. Kona has lost its way and it's easy to see.... Service- Our initial server didn't greet us after we were sat. Another tables server, chipped in and asked us for our drink order while we waited for our server. Wish I caught his name but kudos to you sir. Ambiance - hmm it was different as far as what you would typically see in a restaurant. We decided to sit on the balcony section due to better light and fleet week was happening so was able to catch a quick glimpse of the planes. Food-- OK, I waited a few days to let my train of thought process my experience over the quality of the food. I ordered a French dip sandwich w/ sweet potato fries. Standard time from ordering to order placed with kitchen then to our table to eat was pretty standard. Nor quick or slow. French dip sandwich- me personally, I would have loved for there to be a option of different cheeses but provolone only. Sand which was decent. Decent portion of meat with plenty of dipping sauce for your liking. Now, the sweet potato fries.....Our server initially brought out one round of fries but she accidentally dropped them on the floor. I was looking at the quality of the fries and my date who also had the same meal and the fries looked horrible! Darn near burnt or super extra crispy with no real texture or fullness of a fry should be. Our server apologized on my portion of the fries falling to the ground and got me a second batch. Upon my second batch of fries, straight from the kitchen, another round of poorly fried fries. Literally was as if they were scavenging for fries and you were left with scraps. (See photos) I would recommend ordering other fries etc. I was disappointed that our server even allowed them to be brought to the table. As a server, you should be mindful of the food quality you're about to serve to your customer. Especially if it's a "re-fire." Kitchen- I'm not sure what was happening back there, but even allow the fries to be put on a dish shows lack of attention to detail and or care of quality of food. I was thinking of asking to speak with the manager. I wanted their answer as to if that is how their quality for sweet potato fries is made or if someone just wasn't putting care into their job that day. We went here for restaurant week. Food was above average: in terms of the Picasso roll, I don't think jalapeño goes well with sushi except only to make it look fancy; on the other hand, the prime rib was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and the seasoning was oh-so-good. I'm knocking off 2 stars because our waitress was clumsy and didn't apologize for almost dropping our plates. When she poured water for us, she spilled water on the floor, which splashed onto my clothes. No apology for that. Instead of properly taking away our appetizer dishes to serve our main entrées, she asked us to move our plates so she could set down the other plates. I wasn't too impressed about that. I'd come here again to try their other rolls, and I'd want to do takeout instead. read more

The KG burger is tasty, you can't usually go wrong with a burger. I think the menu is too long and all over the place so it's hard for an establishment to make everything good. I also ordered a spicy tuna roll but it wasn't spicy and didn't taste that fresh. read more

Our family is grateful for all the workers that greet, serve and feed others on Thanksgiving day instead of spending time with their families and loved ones. My family chose to opt out of cooking and dine here for Thanksgiving. It was less than 20 minutes from our hotel and near the harbor. Parking was a little challenging but there is a parking deck two blocks over. The restaurant had a special Thanksgiving menu which included turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Our server gave us her recommendations for wine and sushi. She said the cupcake moscato was good and it was superb. The shrimp & lobster roll was divine. The lobster mac and cheese was tangy and cheesy. We never skip out on dessert and she recommended the double brownie and butter cake. That topped off the holiday meal. We enjoyed our time together. Good food and drinks makes for a great holiday meal. read more

I went during a conference and was glad the restaurant was next to the convention center. At the time of this review, their front door was closed and locked up, but there was a side entrance that you had to use. Now I had made a reservation through OpenTable not knowing anything at this point. Upon walking into the restaurant, the hostess did not seem like they wanted to be there and dismissed my reservation and said to just sit at the bar.... which was fine... but come on... at least put a smile. From there, the two bartenders were great, checking in and making sure I was good. It was still happy hour, so I ordered the sliders, pot stickers, and fried rice. For happy hour pricing, it was okay. There could have been more quantity for each dish, but I get it. overall, the place was great, and it filled up later in the evening. read more

You should avoid this place at all costs. We made a reservation, but when we got there on time, they told us matter-of-facts it would be a 45 minute wait. We were surrounded by lots of people in exactly the same situation, and heard lots of people asking questions like, "what's the point of getting a reservation?" When we asked them about it, they just shrugged and said "Corporatemakes the reservations." They seemed completely unconcerned with the problem, and indeed completely accustomed to doing this. They were very dismissive, and we had to replan our whole evening, because we had tickets to a show and couldn't wait. They really don't care. read more

Took the food to-go after seeing the mouse, hamburger and sliders were not very good, the meat was really tough for the sliders. Fries were good at least. Pretty empty when we came. Looking for a trendy spot with a great happy hour, Kona Grill is your place! I always choose patio seating, which is a safer option during covid and has a nice vibe. It also allows you to people watch, if you're into that like I am, as you are seated right next to busy Pratt Street. I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful fireplace, but hopefully I will soon! The service at Kona is always outstanding. All of the waitress are friendly and professional. Management is normally visually, checking in with tables making sure you're satisfied. Kona offer great dishes and drinks for discounted prices. I have literally ordered practically everything from their happy hour menu. Their sushi is awesome, which is surprising because most times restaurants with vast menus don't normally nail their sushi options, but Kona does! The lettuce wraps are definitely a crowd favorite for our family! I'd also highly definitely the watermelon Margarita if you are a drinker! read more

The ambiance is typical for this chain, but it all stops after that. The carpets could definitely use a shampoo, as a matter of fact, the entire restaurant from the entry fish tank to greasy looking vents. The quality of food is...well...I've had better from the local food trucks (like MUCH better). The "alleged" chicken pad Thai tasted like pad Thai noodles, chicken and STEAK SAUCE! (Yep, you read that right). Had a shrimp and lobster roll as well...hard pass! It was right up there with gas station sushi (well maybe not that bad, but definitely in part with 7-11) About the best item was the sweet tea. I've been here before a few years back, but doubt I'll ever come back again. To sum it up, the experience was bad enough to waive off on dessert, so not recommended! read more

I found this place to be decent for what they serve. Its pretty much pub grub with a sushi bar. We had Ronnie as a server and she did an amazing job taking care of our table. Service here, at least for her, is great. Food quality. Unfortunately, i have to give it a mediocre grade here. Especially since the food is very expensive for what you get. For an appetizer, I got the tuna tartare. It was decent but at $22.00 for an appetizer, its on the high side. For an entree, I got the steakhouse burger for 26 dollars!!!! This was probably one of the cheapest entrees you can get. Quality-wise, it was maybe slightly better than Fridays. My wife got the Salmon and it was severely overcooked and dry. That was I think 31 dollars. The food isn't bad. But you get much better food elsewhere for 1/2 the price. I give it 3 stars because Ronnie took care of us. however, I would not come back as there are probably better options elsewhere that cost less. At this price level, ai expect way better quality. Edit: One more thing I should add on a positive side. They are very very good at managing allergies and making adjustments to menu items if they are able to. read more
