Worst dining experience in years. After a nice visit to the Baltimore Aquarium, 4 of us went to eat at the Kona Grill. Here's what happened. 1) 3 of us ordered beer from the happy hour special...they came back and said they were out of that beer. 2) We ordered a different brand of beer...it came out flat and had to be replaced with yet another brand of beer. 3) When we ordered food, 3 meals came out as ordered, 1 meal was not what was ordered. Our waitress said she would rush through the correct order. We waited 25 minutes for the corrected "rush" order, and the other 3 meals got cold while we waited. 4) There was no silverware provided for our table. The waitress was not around to ask for it, so I went to the bar where the bartender gave us disposable plastic utensils so that we could eat. 5) Since the waitress was rarely around our table (strange, since there were only 3 other tables with customers in our very large dining area), we were not able to request refills on our beverages. 6) The quality of the food was fair at best. And that's ignoring the fact that it had become cold. 7) No manager ever circulated through the dining area to ask if we were happy with our food or service. Bottom line...terrible service and fair food. Skip this place and look for better options, many of which are nearby. read more

I would not typically go out of my way to write a bad review, but the meal that my wife and I had at Kona Grill Baltimore Harbor was simply so lousy that I think people deserve to be warned. We were short on time before a concert and chose Kona because it was close by and open. Kona Grill, one might assume, is just a typical chain restaurant so I was not expecting to be be impressed. I was, however, expecting to have an average quality meal that, while not blowing me away, would serve it's purpose - provide decent value, decent quality and decent service. The service was fine, nothing special, but the young woman who waited on us was friendly and polite and that is all I require. So this complaint is not about the service. The food and drinks were appalling. We ordered margaritas. Don't do that. We received something with a weird food-coloring effect that tasted like a jolly rancher turned into a cocktail. My wife said that the margaritas looked like ectoplasm, lol. Maybe they were going for a 'Nickelodeon meets adult beverages' theme ... in which case they nailed it! I ordered a ribeye with a side of broccoli. My wife ordered sliders. The sliders were fine, not particularly delicious, but nobody managed to ruin them, so no complaints. My steak and broccoli, on the other hand, were inexcusably bad. The steak was $44 so not 'gourmet steakhouse' prices, but not inexpensive either. It was one of the worst steaks I have ever eaten in my life. Tough, overcooked, and extremely heavily salted. The steak looked like something that came from the discount section of a grocery store in a rough part of town. I cannot understand how they felt it was okay to actually plate this steak and bring it to our table, in a restaurant, in any restaurant?!? The broccoli! How do you ruin a side of broccoli? Well, you drown it in butter and salt, and cook it to mush, then slap it in a bowl and put it next to my steak! That is how, hahaha. As I looked around I noticed that the whole establishment looks dirty, worn out and in need of a refresh. This place should simply close down, refresh and reopen ... maybe as Kona Grill, maybe as something else altogether. Until either of these things happens, do yourself a favor and don't go there. read more

Let me start by saying this: Kona is one of my favorite chain restaurants. Spider Roll: 9/10 very fresh, nice crunch from the crab, love the rice paper wrapping Sliders: 9/10: so simple, yet so delicious - I get them every time I go Fries: 8/10: perfect mix of crispy and soft, good amount of salt and pepper Sweet chili glazed salmon: 8/10 great mix of sweet and savory, the salmon is always cooked really nicely- sometimes the Brussel sprouts overpower the dish though, but the fried rice is always on point Margarita flights: overall 8/10 strawberry 10/10, mango: 7/10, watermelon: 8/10- great taste but I wish I was a bit more frozen to last longer Red Sangria: 7/10: love the lychee flavor but it's overpowering if the bartender puts too much I went on New Years last year, and the Dj was definitely doing what had to be done! The other times it's been nice and quiet. the service is always great too :) I can't remember if this location has a fish tank or not but the locations that do have fish tanks always have the most beautiful, exotic fish! read more

Let's just say I was glad I was with good company. Went here with a large group (with a reservation) a few weeks ago and had a horrible experience. We were sat and waited 45 minutes for someone to even come by and take our drink order. Another half hour or so before the drinks came (several of them wrong) and almost served someone a beer who ordered it NA. The apps were a hit at least but the burgers were giving gray microwave patties (should've gotten the sushi). Our waiter apologized a few times for the mess but really just seemed to give more and more excuses. The place had great potential but definitely seemed to take advantage of tourists who didn't know better and still ended up spending hundreds of dollars. There's so many better spots in Baltimore to try so I say skip this one and head towards the crab and lobster joints down by the harbor! read more

Ugghhhh. This is our second time here in a month. First time before a concert and this second time for a concert as well. Both experiences similar, but this recent one was the definition of a sh.t show. Food...stick with the burger, sushi roll of some sort, pad Thai. Burger was actually pretty good. Don't get the prime rib as it came out beyond well done and dried out. Don't order drinks other than coke and water bc they can't make them from old fashions to a simple gin and tonic. Beer? Ask what they have in stock bc they were out of Sam Adams, Bud Light, some other craft beers to include me witnessing a tap just run dry and the bar tender just shrug his shoulders. Tonic...all out. How can that be? Kona can tell you. Basically I see it like mgmt isn't planning properly. They know all these events in the area are happening and they turn people away at the front door bc they're fully booked via reservations. So it's no surprise you'll be slammed with hungry patrons. But, go in with average to low expectations and you'll be fine. read more

Came here for happy hour with the girls and everything was amazing. Troy was an amazing server and we enjoyed our time here. The happy hour steak and prawns was not good though so I would not recommend that but overall a 10 out of 10 experience. read more

We visited a couple times. The first time we went for their happy hour. They have a great happy hour menu. It allows you to try several things at great prices, so I had a "hodgepodge" meal! I got a fish taco, spicy tuna roll, edamame, and sweet potato fries. My only complaint was that the fish taco was made with salmon versus whitefish. Salmon is popular and some people may not mind but I am not a salmon fan and the fish was not blackened as I requested. Other than that, it was great. The next time, it was the only resturant open nearby. But we were fine going again. This time I got the salad and sushi plate. The Asian salad is excellent! We went in and were seated at a booth in the back row. I think we could hear the guy calling orders as well as the cooks could! It was loud and frequent, fire the kg burger medium etc. I don't think it's a great spot to sit folks and maybe one of those Covid walls between the booths could be repurposed and make the kitchen a little more separate noise wise. Food was ok, not really a winner unfortunately. The rib eye went back as it was near raw, the pasta dish which was rather meager was left mostly uneaten. The KG cheeseburger was pretty good but others meals set the tone for the visit. I think they can do better, might be useful to try the place from the customers side. read more

Totally wasn't expecting the in-house live DJ. He was jamming and the noise level was just right, not drowning and overbearing. The ambiance was nice. Wasn't overly crowded at 7PM on a Friday night. Sat at a two-seater table top right across from the bar. I had the Margarita Flight which came with 3 different flavors, pretty yummy. We ordered the avocado egg rolls as our appetizer, different but good different, the secret was in the honey-cilantro dipping sauce. My main dish was the Sweet-Chili Glazed Salmon (sorry for no pic, was jamming & forgot), it came with shrimp & pork fried rice, I had the pork removed and brussels sprouts. I loved everything about my dish, salmon cooked to perfection, had a slight crisp around the edges but moist & flaky all over. My date had the Pad Thai Noodles with shrimp & chicken, didn't taste his but it looked good and he gave it a thumbs up! The vibe & food was good here, first time but it won't be my last. read more

THERE WAS HAIR IN MY FOOD!! I was already wary about coming to this place because of all of the poor ratings, but this was the only place in the area that had seats available for dinner nearby. It took about 20 minutes just to even get a glass of water that I was only able to get from getting up and asking bartender. Our waiter tried to be friendly, but overall the service was awful. Once we placed our order it took at least another half an hour just for anything to come out making our wait time almost an hour. It's a shame because the food was decent but I completely lost my appetite after seeing the hair on the plate! Who knows if I even ate some hair that was wrapped in the sushi. Once I got home I also started getting an upset stomach and had to run to the bathroom after digesting this. read more

This location is right by the convention center which is why we visited. We were seated immediately during lunch and greeted quickly. The menu has lots of options to choose from, especially since we visited for brunch on Sunday. I ordered the fish tacos. Kona Grill Very disappointed in ambiance, service and quality of food. First and foremost walking into the Steak, Seafood & Sushi restaurant, I kick myself for not realizing that, I should have seen that I would be extremely disappointed. The first thing we saw was disgusting. At the hosting table are two 1000 plus gallon aquariums that held lethargic fish and algae any reasonable minded owner would immediately clean. At the minimum representation of healthy fish would promote a pleasant visual, but considering the food style should be grounds for revisiting the cleaning and managerial staff. Considering,the reason we walked into Kona Grill, the food was mediocre at best while the price point was par for the Baltimore prime location. I expected better quality food and more attention to the conditions the food went to the table. The food was cold and very much fell along the lines of tricked-out public school fare. The service was reasonable considering they were understaffed, but again based on the price point fell way below the expected quality. I would not recommend this restaurant in its current condition. read more

This was thee worst date night I had with the wife. Came here Feb 12 to have dinner and get away while the kids were at the hotel ordering room service. It turned out, the joke was on us. My kids had better food, entertainment, and overall better time than we did. First, we had a reservation that we scheduled over the phone earlier in the day. When we arrived, it was busier than the Brookland Carribean Carnival. We had to wait 10 minutes just to tell the font desk we had a reservation. After about 30 minutes of waiting we were asked if we wanted to sit at a table with another couple, whom we did not know. During COVID... lol We were like nah, we'll wait a little longer. Twenty more mines went by and the young lady at the front desk told my wife and I that we looked like a nice couple (probably because we were dressed like we were going out and we were patiently waiting), and said she would seat us immediately. Additional joke on us... We were sat on the side of the bar right next to the saddest fish tank I've ever seen. I could have put my 60 gal tank with piranhas in there and it would have looked better. We waited an additional 10-15 minutes just for the waitress to greet us and take our orders. By the time she arrived, we knew our drink and food orders. The waitress put in our order without writing it down (after telling us how long she's been in the industry and saying how she wanted to go into another industry). We received our drinks about 15 minutes later. About 10 minutes late, we realized our food never came. We flagged down the waitress to ask about the food. She said she would ask. She came back and said the kitchen forgot. The kitchen and not the waitress... We told the waitress to bag everything up and we'll go. I've seen the same restaurant chain in Jersey, but I'll never go because of this location. read more

Currently sitting at the bar. Haven't been here in many years and I know why. The service was terrible- took forever to get the bartenders attention, drinks were absolutely disgusting and make wrong, food was oily and disgusting- ordered lettuce wraps and pot stickers and they were tasteless and a stomach ache. Lettuce wraps were full of grease and tasteless, potstickers tasted like they came from the dollar tree. We were still here for happy hour and I ordered a skinny margarita- it was absolutely revolting. So much sour mix and it was so terrible. The bar tender kept coming to us asking to repeat our order and it always was wrong and disgusting. I now know why I stopped coming here. Lastly, the restaurant was very dirty. read more

Our server was really great where she was very attentive to us and kept checking in on us the entire time we were there. It was happy hour time and the bartender making drinks was AMAZING! Some of the best margaritas I've had in a very long time! However, the one star is because of the cleanliness of the place, which has nothing to do with our waitress or bartender. As we were walking out, we saw a huge cockroach, at least 2 inches long walking across the floor. I told the hostess and showed her the roach, and she was grossed out herself. We think the cleanliness of the restaurant needs to be attended to so you can avoid these little creatures. read more

This place is very overpriced "Asian fusion". I didn't eat inside the restaurant but ordered through Doordash. I was looking at the menu through Doordash and the pictures of the food online did not match what I was actually served takeout. At $30 for the sweet-chili glazed salmon I was expecting a large enough portion to match the photo, but I got a very small amount of salmon probably around 4oz. In the online image, it looks like there's 1-2 very medium-large sized slabs of grilled fish. The bad part though is that my friend thought there was an excessively fishy smell coming from the salmon, so she couldn't finish eating it. They also claim to come with "shrimp and pork fried rice" but I did not see any resemblance of pork, only maybe 2-3 very tiny (smaller than the tip of my pinky finger) triangular "chunks" of ham. There was NO shrimp visible. There were maybe 2 little chunks of canned pineapple in the mix of mostly egg and mung bean sprouts. It was also salty with the amount of dark soy sauce used to season the white rice. Overall it was not worth anywhere near $30 and not filling. I found a significant amount of oil pooling on the bottom of the black takeout container which wasn't very appealing. The Brussels sprouts were broiled well but also seasoned salty. I also got the double patty cheeseburger which comes with fries. This is on promotion at $7.99 and decent. The fries were basically cold and stiff though by the time I got to eat them. The burger was kept warm with a foil wrapper so the lettuce and everything inside was smushed together (not the best presentation) but cooked well-done as I had indicated in my order. Flavors were ok (but bordering a little too salty) and I liked the inclusion of sauces on the side, but generally disappointed because of the cost of the food. read more

During my visit in Baltimore my sister in law and I decided to meet for lunch near her job and chose to go to Kona Grill. The restuarant is chic and classy. We were seated immediately by an amicable hostess. It was a beautiful day so we decided to sit outside on the patio. Our waitress was friendly and gave several suggestions which were helpful. I ordered the Watermelon Jalapeno Margarita and it was so good. I was not sure about the Jalapeno portion of the drink, but our waitress ensured me I would love it and I did. I wasn't extremely hungry so ordered the Ahi Wonton Crisps and edamame which were okay. My sister in law ordered the Chicken and Shrimp lettuce Wraps. She said her food was ok as well. What stands out about Kona Grill is the excellent service, cool relaxed ambiance and the delicious drinks. I would recommend this restaurant for a date, business meeting or meeting up with friends for drinks and food. read more

Came in late Friday night, seated right away, and against my better judgement... I stayed.. I have been to this location previously about 2 years ago and had a great experience for late night happy hour. This time, our service and experience was not great at all. After about 15 mins, our server Troy came to the table and we asked for waters that came 10 mins later and ordered appetizers and drinks... fast forward 45 mins later....No appetizers, no drinks and tried ordering food that he was sure he didn't need to write down. The sushi rolls came out 15 mins later without silverware/chopsticks, or napkins and the order was wrong!! In total spent an hour and a half here and left hungry, thirsty and extremely unsatisfied. There's is a trend of poor reviews at this location and it shouldn't be this way. Now I'm not one to leave out the good parts too which was that the manager Rachel came out after asking to speak with her and addressed our concerns and adjusted the bill accordingly which was appreciated. Also the server Alice did her best to bring us utensils and ask us if there was anything else we needed a few more times after we expressed our displeasure. Sorry only goes so far. There needs to be a re-evaluation of what is going on at this restaurant and do an overhaul. read more

This ambiance here is interesting. The lighting is cool and the fish tank is a good look. This place is tourist expensive. $12 for a Miso Soup is simply unreasonable. This is the shrimp tempura, and these are simply not high quality shrimp from the bay. There is simply no reason the prices are super expensive and I would never come here outside of Happy Hour, for the record. Happy Hour prices are decent, and worth the try. Service was good. read more
