Yelp Fam! Long time no see I'm back with a review of a Sushi Pot that is delivering some of the best Nigiri & Sashimi in the game. I had a friend mention Hana to me since it's close to my job. I decided to slide through for lunch, only to run into my boss who also gave it the thumbs up. I found a bar seat at lunch time, grabbed a Sapporo and looked over the menu. Hana offers lunch specials for sushi and bento boxes. I went with the Premium Nigiri lunch special. Top Tier a great selection of fresh fish that was presented beautifully. The standouts were the Toro, regular Tuna, but every piece was unique and delicious. I'm definitely curious to try more of the menu! The inside is very nice and chill. It is a spot great for Lunch, Happy Hour, Date Night, etc. I'll be back for a follow up review on some of the other offerings since I stopped in for a quick lunch. The Staff was very nice & Helpful. Overall this spot is def worth checking out. read more

Hana is a wonderful addition to the Avenue! The ambiance was fine, it got a bit loud with the music playing but it wasn't anything too crazy. The service was superb, our waiter was incredibly attentive and friendly to our table, and the other tables around us. The food was great! My favorite roll was the Double Toro, that's made it onto my last meal list I'd eat if I were on death row. The Tuna taco was delicious. I was excited about the crab rangoon but that was probably my least favorite- I was expecting your typical Chinese-American crab rangoon and this was more like a mozzarella stick. I highly recommend Hana for a fun night out. You won't regret it. read more

I think this place will be worth a second try in a few months once they've had a chance to iron out some kinks. There were a few high points that give me cause for optimism. We came in for dinner at 8pm on a Friday night. A very nice server who was not assigned to our table stopped by three times to let us know that our server should be with us shortly. After about 20 minutes of waiting, he kindly took our order himself, even though he was clearly busy. Such a nice guy. Cocktails were very disappointing. They sounded great on the menu, but in reality the flavor combinations didn't work well and the drinks were badly out of balance. Next we got the crunchy rice with spicy tuna. The rice squares were literally inedible. We could have sworn they were made with raw rice - deep fried into a brick that was so hard we couldn't bite through it. On the other hand, the spicy tuna on top was absolutely delicious. Another small plate of smashed cucumbers was murky and weird and desperately in need of a little acidity. The chicken skin skewer was pleasant, although not as crispy as we would have liked, and seemed pretty skimpy for $8. Finally, we shared a sushi roll with fresh crab, avocado, wagyu beef and caviar that was fresh and fantastic. I would come back just for that. All together, I think Hana has potential to be a great addition to the neighborhood, once it gets past its growing pains. read more

Ambiance - very nice, clean space. Parking is a little difficult Service - amazing! Very attentive and nice. Food came out very quickly. Would recommend making a reservation Food - overall quality of the seafood was really good! We got the salmon carpaccio, yellowtail ceviche tacos, double toro roll, Baltimore roll, and Hampden heat roll. The dishes were beautiful and presented nicely. We just weren't as impressed by the flavors. Every dish felt like it was "missing something" but everything was solid. Little more on the expensive end. This place is awesome. Hampden has needed a truly good sushi restaurant and it finally has one. The seared salmon belly, which they blow torched right in front of us, was so good I'm still thinking about it days later. Even the super basic yellowtail roll was amazing because the ingredients were so good. And it came out so fast the rice was still warm. The staff is super organized and on top of things and provides good service in addition to great food. The interior has been redone and the vibe is totally different from when it was Souvlaki - it's welcoming and fun. There is a large sushi bar, which is my favorite place to sit so I can watch the sushi being made (dinner and a show!). They also have tables upstairs and an entire dining room in the basement. They also have a great lunch specials menu that I'm planning on trying g this week. read more

This place is brand new so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they're still experiencing some growing pains! Overall though, everything was pretty good. Is it my new favorite sushi spot? Honestly, no but it's not a bad option if you're in the area. The bar is thoughtfully decorated with plenty of seating, including right in front of the sushi counter which is cool. The dining area in the back is spacious and pretty. The bathrooms were super clean and smelled great. There is even a little market section with snacks and drinks - super cute if you're placing an order for takeout. We came in at an off-time on a rainy day for a very late lunch so we were the only people here, plus several staff members. When we arrived, the bartender and food prepper behind the bar both were on their phones and disengaged. Our bartender became attentive after a bit but was much more focused on her friend who stopped by. She wasn't able to tell me anything about the sake menu when I asked which one was on the dry side, so I ended up selecting one myself and still really enjoyed it. The crispy tuna rice cakes were good but a difficult bite given the large size. The seared salmon belly nigiri, a very sweet gift from the owner, was delicious and totally melted in your mouth. Probably the best bite of the whole meal! The yellowtail maki and salmon nigiri was good too but I've had more fresh-tasting sushi elsewhere in Baltimore. I was also happy to know that they have gluten free soy sauce here, for any of my GF readers who might want to check this place out! My boyfriend liked the crab rangoon sticks a lot but his pork belly yakitori and pork belly tonkotsu didn't really blow him away. For the quality of the food, I didn't think it was totally worth the price but this place is a 3.5 to 4 stars in my book. We came here for lunch and everything was delicious! My wife got the salmon teriyaki bento box which was a lunch special and it came with a lot of food including 6 rolls of her choice. The salmon was really tasty and so was the seaweed salad. I got the shrimp tempura and Maryland roll. Both were really good. They also gave us the seared salmon belly to try and it was delicious. Might have been the best food we got. Will definitely be back! read more

The best sushi in Balitmore hands down. I went on a Sunday afternoon as was pleasantly surprised to see the main chef, owner and bar lead there. It's a stunning place the bar is a sight to see and it's actually quite large and offers a private dining space too for events. This is in the former Souvlaki space on the avenue. It's a large menu with sushi tacos and yakitori. They also have ramen which felt odd but can confirm the tonkotsu is so good. My favorite bite was the seared salmon Aburi. Aburi is not often seen in Balitmore. It's a treat. read more

As it's the newest restaurant in our neighborhood, we've tried Hana three times since it opened. By now, we've tried a significant portion of their menu: smashed cucumbers, crab rangoon sticks, jalapeno poppers, maguro (tuna) "Hana tacos," Double Toro roll, several other rolls, hamachi crudo, seared salmon belly nigiri, a few yakitori... I think most of the dishes I've had are quite good, but I'm particularly a fan of the Double Toro roll and other sushi rolls. (My husband's favorite thing on the menu is the seared salmon belly nigiri, which he gets at least one order of - it's only two pieces - each time we go.) They have a large menu of drinks as well, but I haven't found a cocktail I love yet - some too sweet, others I've tried not super balanced - but overall, the food and drinks are pretty good! The menu is very large and has everything from classic maki rolls to fun takes on Japanese food for appetizers especially. There's probably something for everyone on this menu. The service is good - we've had the same server the last two times, and she's lovely - friendly, helpful, attentive. The drinks are sometimes a little slow to come from the bar, but the food service is fast and great. The restaurant is new, but it used to be something else (a Greek restaurant) and you can still see that in the decor a bit, but they did a good job with the space and it's nice and comfortable even if it doesn't feel the most Japanese? Overall, it's a good option in Hampden for sushi and Japanese cuisine. Check it out if you're looking for a Japanese in Hampden. read more

Probably the best sushi spot I've tried in Baltimore! So many amazing things on the menu--the tuna crispy rice and tuna belly nigiri were my favorite bites hands down. They just opened so service did get a little slow once they got busier so keep that in mind if you're in a rush. It's also surprisingly bigger than it looks. Highly recommend! read more

We did Hana for my fiance birthday lunch and had an incredible experience. The service, ambiance and food were all amazing! We started with the tuna crispy rice and crab rangoon sticks. Both came out quickly and were perfect, the crispy creamy combo of both is a winner every time. Then we had the Sake Tacos, the star of the meal. The shells were crisp and the fish was fresh, the sauce is made in house and added a lovely sweetness to the dish. This is such a fun play on traditional sushi flavors and we will be back to try all of thier tacos. Then came the Hamden Heat and Smokin' Aces rolls, they were both so unique and unlike the sushi we are used to at other restaurants we frequent. The Smokin' Aces was my favorite roll, the jalapeños and sishitos in the roll were so nice and smokey they added a great balance to the fish. Lastly we had the octopus sashimi and bluefin toro nigiri, both were fresh and tender and perfectly presented. We can't wait to go back and try more of this chef's amazing flavor combos!! read more

The restaurant replaced Souvlaki. They turned the bar area into a sushi bar. We decided to sit there. The sushi chefs started us off with a complimentary piece of torched salmon with a sauce. I tasted something fishy but everyone else seemed to enjoy it. The calamari tempura was pretty tasty and so was the crispy rice tuna. We ordered the takoyaki and chicken karaage off the happy hour menu (between 3pm-5pm everyday). Both were good and tasty. We also got the chicken thigh robata plus the kalbi. The chicken was more charred but the short rib was better. Our friend got a few tacos. The service was good. We enjoyed our experience here. read more

Came here with a friend and we sat at the bar. The space itself is really cute, loved the decor and the vibe. We ordered a couple cocktails and chatted with the bartender who was very friendly and helpful with ordering. I got their spin on the French 75 and really enjoyed it, my friend got a Vesper which was also awesome. For food we got a couple apps and a few rolls to share. I really enjoyed all of the food!! The fish was definitely high quality and I thought their fun twists on sushi were both interesting and delicious. I can't remember what the little tacos are called but they were really good!! Stopped into Hana for a quick bite before another event we had in the area. It was packed! All the reservations were taken, and somehow they were able to squeeze us in before a reservation at a table. The bar is available for walk-in's but I recommend making a reservation. All the food came out pretty fast. Starting with the crab rangoon sticks, these were fun but definitely not crab rangoon. The crispy tuna rice was flavorful but difficult to eat since it was large but thats a good problem to have! They brought out sesame spinach salad because they ran out of the kimchi. This wasn't anything special but a nice gesture. Last, the star of the show, bluefin toro nigiri was absolutely amazing. It melted in my mouth and was delicious. We both got sake which was served in a wine glass instead of the traditional cups which was disappointing. Overall for the value, I was underwhelmed but we got mostly apps so I am looking forward to trying more things on the menu! Id give it a 3.5. read more

New favorite (pricier) sushi spot in Baltimore!!! I've walked past this place a dozen times and keep saying I needed to check it out, and when we had some out of town guests I knew this would be the perfect spot to take them to. Please excuse the limited photos, I was so focused on eating that I forgot to take pictures of all the yummy food that we ordered. The restaurant is HUGE and beautifully decorated. We had the privilege of sitting near the bar in the alcove window spot, which I would definitely recommend if you love watching the people of Hampden. I got the ramen and my bf got the tuna tataki and the plating of his dish was beautiful. If you do the ramen I would recommend asking them to add more spice because mine wasn't as spicy as I like. Our server gave great recommendations and suggested the Baltimore roll and volcano roll for us to try (they were delicious!!) I can't wait to come back here to try more things off the menu and manifesting they will do omakase!! read more

We decided to check out this new place and we were not disappointed. From first impressions outside to the warm welcome inside, it was a great start! Bartender made great drinks and my dirty martini was on point. The food was delicious!! Sorry I didn't take as many pics but each dish was amazing - miso soup, tempura soft shell starter, Hana roll, a roll that had a spicy Mexican food tasting vibe (can't remember the name) and melt in your mouth sashimi (pic included). Sometimes I feel sushi rolls can start to blend together flavor wise but the distinct difference and flavors in the two we ordered was a refreshing and welcome surprise. Stopped in with a friend after the movies this past Friday early evening and the place was hopping. We were able to get seats at the sushi bar/bar and I have to say the redo is lovely, it looks great. We just decided to split a few things starting with the seasoned spinach and smashed cucumbers. Neither was a good version of what they were supposed to be, they were both woefully under-seasoned to the point where I was dipping my cucumbers into the soy sauce for the sushi. And yes, that picture is $8 worth of spinach. The cucumbers were a little more generous but not very good, didn't finish either dish. The chicken yakitori was small as to be expected for $6 but was also overcooked and didn't have much flavor. The seafood gyoza were very tasty, I couldn't tell you what seafood was in it but I liked it. The fried oyster roll which I forgot to get a picture of was not good, the oysters tasted old and had a mealy texture like they had maybe been frozen at some point, that wasn't finished either. I would be hard-pressed to come back, it's not worth it for what you get, especially given the fact that 3 of the dishes were not finished because they were not good. read more

We left with a huge bill and were still hungry. The waitstaff all seemed confused and uncomfortable. We didn't get our drinks until we had already received two courses. The nigiri was brought out in a some ridiculous prop that was held in place with globs of rice. It's standard at sushi restaurants to point out what each roll is, but the waiter just dropped down the tray and walked away. I won't be returning. read more

The food was pretty good. Drinks were decent. When we walked in, we weren't immediately greeted by the host. He was helping situate another party which was fine, BUT one of the members of that party was black and so were we. After he helped him, and that guy stepped over to the door, the host typed into the iPad looked up, sees my boyfriend and goes "Woah werent you just behind me?" I guess all black people look alike. He was pleasant enough and got us to our table quickly. We ordered started and entrees. Entrees came our first. We had to ask a food runner about the status of our starters because our waiter was consistently checking on every table BUT ours. Overall, experience was a 6/10. Very cute inside, but I wouldnt go back. Good customer service means checking on all tables, not just the tables without minorities. read more

Everything about this place was absolutely amazinggg!! I did my 21st birthday dinner here and we had the best time, food was so incredible our table kept ordering more and more throughout the night. The service was even better. They were super accommodating of allergies and of our larger party. Everyone was the absolute sweetest and super attentive. Came in here last week on a whim, I originally wanted to go to Toki underground but they were closed so I decided to get sushi here and after my experience I won't be coming back, I was immediately judged for my appearance and did not get good service I was pretty much ignored for 10 mins until a bartender finally came around to get me a drink and take my order, 2 beers and 2 rolls around $55, not worth it the the food was mid at best there's much better sushi and Japanese restaurants around that will treat you great and better quality food, to put in context I was wearing sweatpants and a tee shirt I guess the staff thought I was cheap to my appearance you should never judge a book by its cover read more

Even though the restaurant was packed, the food & service were outstanding. We sat at the sushi bar, where Juan made the experience fun and memorable while preparing out entrees. The handmade vegetable gyozas were excellent, and the Hana roll's hint of lemon added a unique, delicious touch. I had to immediately create an account on yelp to get the word out about this place ! New Hot spot with a minor awkward moment but ultimately it's a phenomenal sushi restaurant. I'll start with the uncomfortable and tense moments my hubby and I had to endure with while sitting at the sushi bar, as we sat there we saw a lady walking back and fourth from behind the sushi bar and snapping her fingers at everyone while the staff was obviously very busy it was very hard to watch. We seen the chefs although they maintained their professionalism and composure it was very clear on our end they did not like that and I hope she treats them better from what I was told she is the owner. As far as our sushi experience with our chefs tonight I can tell you the food is hands down superior to all the other sushi restaurants in Maryland and honestly this might be a stretch but the flavors are head and shoulders above any where I've been. Chef Juan was an absolute delight to sit with and watch. He has a tremendous passion and inviting personality and very charismatic. I highly recommend seating right in front and enjoying the show. Food was good but does not serve good portions for the price you are paying. Service was fine and the host is very nice. I think for the price I should be leaving with a full stomach. They gave me five rolls. I also ordered one of the taco dishes and each taco was probably 2 inches across. I had to leave and go to another restaurant. read more
