The former Papi's Taco, now rebranded as Alexander's Tavern, has the same cold and uninviting decor. It seems I am not alone in this feeling - we were the only table at Sunday lunchtime. I had a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. This was an interesting combination of ingredients, and somewhat unusual. Good, but not enough to return for, given the ambience. We were walking along Harford Road on a beautiful first Friday and got a whiff of food smell when walking by AT SoHo. We were seated outside by the lovely hostess right away, but had to eventually come in due to a quick storm that passed through. We ordered appetizers and drinks from the happy hour specials menu. The drinks were refreshing. We ordered the Maryland Tots, which is tater tots with crab dip on top. It was pretty good, but there was barely any crab. The maple bacon Brussels sprouts were delicious. The service was great, I think my server's name was Sydney, she was awesome. It's a great place with great music, cool artwork and Maryland vibes. They have a lot of specials throughout the week. Very nice spot on Harford Road about halfway between the Hamilton and Lauraville neighborhoods. Alexander's has a full bar with a well-considered list of local and national brews. The menu is basically pub food and a variety of selections for most any taste. The interior is spacious and noise levels didn't seem to be a problem when I visited. I sat at the bar and service was very quick and friendly. There is also an outdoor seating area in front, which I look forward to enjoying on a future visit. Note that parking can be a little tricky since the restaurant sits on busy Harford Road and abuts a residential neighborhood with somewhat narrow streets. Definitely worth checking out if you're visiting northeast Baltimore. read more

Not sure what happened because many Yelpers commented about the service being great. The person acting as host did not even speak. He seated us with menus and walked away. Not a word, seriously. The waitress & drink server were both professional--but the food and drinks took a very long time to come out. We have gotten carry out from here and also when it was Papis, but I think I would stick to take-out only. The decor and vibe inside (aside from pretty good music) really is not making this a place that I want to be in. It's too bad overall--this is part of the newish SoHa building and I've been really pulling for restaurants to make it here. read more

I stopped by Alexander's Tavern for a quick solo lunch date after finding it on Yelp. The reviews looked promising, so I decided to give it a try. I went on a Tuesday and luckily caught their daily special--half-priced tots and $10 martinis. It was also Happy Hour when I arrived, which was a nice bonus. Heads up: Yelp and Apple Maps still say they open at 11:30 AM, but they've since changed their hours and now open at 3 PM Monday through Wednesday. I wasn't aware of the update, so it was pure luck that I arrived close to 3pm and not earlier like I originally planned. The place was pretty quiet--just me and a few other patrons since they had just opened. I ordered the Maryland Crab Tots, Fried Cheese Curds, and for my entrée, the Chicken Caesar Wrap with Crispy Buffalo Chicken. I also had a Lemon Drop Martini. Everything I tried was really good--great flavors and solid portions. I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars because while the food was great, the service was just okay, and the parking situation isn't ideal. There's no dedicated lot, so you'll need to find street parking or risk a nearby lot with towing signs (I took the risk and lived to tell the tale lol). Overall, I'd definitely go back. Went here last Saturday for brunch. Our drinks were great. I got a Live Free or Rye and my dining companion got a Creamsicle. After that, things went downhill. I ordered esquites as an appetizer. I had had it at Papi's in Towson in January and was so glad that Alexander's kept some of the Papi's menu items. When the esquites came, it was in a bowl with a spoon and much thinner sauce than Papi's. I see the dish as a dip, and at Papi's we dipped tortilla chips into it. The staff looked surprised when I asked for tortilla chips. I didn't just want to eat it out of a bowl. Anyway, they finally with hesitation gave us a bowl of chips. For the entree, I got the chipotle sausage enchilada and my friend got birria tacos. We were splitting both. I cut the enchilada in half and gave him half. I didn't notice any sausage in it. I kept eating it hoping to come across sausage but never did. I didn't say anything until after the meal because my friend thought I had caused enough commotion about the esquites. I tried the birria tacos and the meat and sauce were bland. Anyway, that really sucks to get no sausage in your sausage enchilada. I almost wondered if it was on purpose because the of the tortilla chip situation. Anyway, I probably won't be back but sure would like to be compensated for a meatless sausage enchilada. read more

My partner and I come here almost every week and we absolutely love the entire staff. They are incredibly friendly and now greet us by name every time. Everything on the menu is delicious and their drinks are amazing as well. The atmosphere is always very fun, especially on trivia night. Definitely worth a visit! read more

So glad this has opened in Hamilton/Lauraville neighborhood giving me more of a variety, nutritious and fairly affordable fare. The Nourish bowl was amazing!!! I would eat that nightly if I could--hard to find brussels sprouts cooked the way I like them on the tender side. Friend had Fajita Skillet Pasta which he enjoyed. Server was great. Atmosphere great--no loud music and a patio. Too bad on a Saturday night it was pretty empty. Hope that changes so they will stay! read more
