Lovely spot to visit in the heart of Kona. You can hang out in an enclosed room full of kittens!! These cats are rescued from the island, as there is an overpopulation issue. It warms my heart to support a good initiative like that. There is a cute lobby, a transitionary room to keep the kitties from escaping, then you're in! There were maybe 3-4 adult cats and a dozen kittens roaming around. The older cats like pets while the kittens love to play. There is something for everyone! There are creative seats that keep you next to perches and cat trees so you can hang with the cats. It's a longer space, and the kitttens loved to zoom around! Toys and enrichment are everywhere! AMBIANCE: The store is so cute!! We came across this place when on vacation in Hawaii. My family and I love cats so we had to check this place out. It's in the back of a little mall but look out for their sign. They have such cute merchandise. I ended up getting a t shirt, and bracelets and I love them! The lady who worked there is so nice! She was telling us about all the work they do in rescuing and adopting our cats and I love it and loved being able to support this cause! CAT ROOM EXPERIENCE: Absolutely loved the experience of hanging out with all the kitties! They were so cute and the room they are in is so spacious and cozy! I bought some treats as well and fed them to the kitties. My family did the same! If I ever come back to Kona, I will definitely come back here! We were so excited to come here! It was near the condo we were vacationing in and we're suckers for cats. My family loves cat cafes because we used to have cats, but they've sadly passed. Jenny the owner was very sweet. I adore the cute cat shirt I bought here and the socks. All the cats were very relaxed and friendly. It was such a highlight to hold the kittens. The photo op area was fantastic too. I can tell by how calm the cats were and how very clean the place was that they've loved and cared for. The Kona cat cafe helps kittens from around the big island. The kittens at the cat cafes have become little love hero's. These cats are super special and you will know why when you go. This is the only cat cafe I have been too where the cats are interested in you and want to be friends. They are amazing. If Bob is there please say hi for me. He's amazing as they all are. Best part is you can make one your very own kitty. The owner is very dedicated to the place. She has really made it a type of kitty healing sanctuary for both people and kitties. Every place we vacation, my adult daughter HAS to visit a cat cafe. We are all cat lovers, and she wants to support a local cafe and also love on kitties, so it's a win-win. She found Kona Kat Cafe and made us an appointment for a visit. What a treat! Such cute items to purchase to support the cafe and lovely, well-cared-for cats to visit and love on. Bucket list want has been to try Tai Chi. What better way to learn and try but with cats joining. The facility is clean and well design to accommodate these furbabies and guests. The owners have put a lot of thought in to the care and needs of the kitties. The instructor for the Tai Chi class was like the vibe of the cafe...fun and easy going. This is a cafe that doesn't have a cafe.... They sell bottled drinks but they don't make lattes or have fresh coffee. How odd. $20 for an hour to sit with the cats. We didn't get a chance to have a session with these little cuties, but we did spend a little time talking to the owner and checking out the place (down the street from a family members home). The little kitties are up for adoption, you can purchase snacks for them or yourself in the lobby. The place looks adorable, and it's actually bigger inside than it looks (the cat area continues behind the counter wall) so there is room to spread out and enjoy. 10/10 experience here at the Kona Cat Cafe!! Definitely a much needed therapeutic session surrounded by these cute kitties in this comfy space. There were about 12-18 kitties freely roaming around the area and all of them had such fun personalities. One really beautiful part in all of this is that all of them (other than the shop cats) are up for adoption to the public! Some already were adopted :) Its $20/person for an hr. I had an absolutely wonderful time!! Staff is very nice and the cat area is very clean. Of note, you have to wear socks only when playing with the cats. If you don't have socks, they will rent a pair to you. There is also a lot of cat themed merchandise for purchase. The cats were so much fun! There were kittens all the way to older cats. To my understanding, all the cats are adoptable. The ability to bring one of these adorable cats back to the mainland is fairly painless. Enjoyed my time at Kona Kat cafe. Lots of young kittens and maybe a few older "house cats". we got there early and everyone was very playful and full of energy. Some cats climbed on me and just wanted endless cuddles and made lots of biscuits. Person running the show was very much a cat lover and he was very caring and helpful. If you are visiting the Big Island and you love cats you have to visit this place ! It is set as a Japanese cat cafe but with a slightly bigger variety of drinks/ snacks. It has a cute little shop with kitty-themed items... and a bunch of beautiful kittens!!!!! All of them are friendly and love to play ... and occasionally fall asleep on you:) It's clean , it does not smell ( like some other cat cafes i've been to) and the kitties seem so happy and appear well- taken care of. I found lots of cute cat themed merchandises and very clean facility where kitties are hanging out. What a TREAT to find this tranquil little cat cafe on my trip to Kona! Cats are my heart animals as we run a small scale cat rescue ourselves. Coming here felt like a little piece of home away from home. The lady (Jenny) who runs it is also the person who designed it and owns it. She was extremely personable and answered all our questions. She has created a wonderful cat oasis with a flair for artistic design in the middle of downtown Kailua. Moreover, she keeps it SPOTLESS. I could've spent hours in there. The kitties? All are currently adoptable or are already in the adoption process, which takes a little time for vaccines, spays/neuters, etc. Every single kitty in there was a joy! Sweet, playful, sleepy, and just generally wonderful. Make sure to wear socks when visiting as you need to remove your shoes before going in to visit with the kitties. She provides toys and little bags of treats for you to give them. You can pay by the hour or half hour. The cafe has only been open for 12 weeks. I am hoping she gets LOTS of foot traffic because the more people come through, the more adoptions happen and the more kitties she can bring in off the streets. Spread the word if you live in Hawaii so this wonderful lady can remain in business. read more
