One of my favorite bars in the city! Super fun and aesthetic ambience with a great selection of drinks. I like that drinks are inspired by flavors from around the world. It's a fun way to sample flavors you don't normally get to try. I tried the pandan and coconut water drink (so smooth and delicious). I was here for an informal work get together a few weeks ago and it was alright. Most drinks were $15-20 but there were a few that were simple and cheaper (e.g. Pink Flamingo, which was a girly highball that was enough for me). Clever names on a lot of them, and the bar is spacious-ish for something in the city. I see the other reviews here but maybe it's different for regulars. We were in a fairly large group of 20+. Personally, I thought the service wasn't all that friendly - the bartender was grumpy and snappy when we had to let my manager know one of our group members had lost her ID and was leaving the group to go back to the hotel to find it. She was clearly not about to order a drink, and we got a grumpy response from the bartender about her presence being a liability. She left as requested and fwiw she was also very stressed out and the rest of us were patrons. Later in the evening, the same guy made drinks super fast but I could not hear a word to anything I asked about payment for the group or how the bar needed us to split the bill. read more

This was a place that I wasn't really aware of until we passed by it a couple days ago and saw that it was super decked out inside for the holidays. Naturally, out of curiosity we decided to check it out to see what was going on inside. In terms of holiday spirit and Christmas vibes, Kona is the best decorated bar that I've been to so far in San Francisco. With a ton of string lights everywhere and Christmas decor galore, if you're big on celebrating the holidays then this place is for you! One thing I do have to mention is that there is a $10 cover fee to get in, which we weren't expecting and which we had to pay on venmo. The drinks here also are on the pricier side (with cocktails being around $18). I decided to get the "Island of Misfit Toys", which had things like Jamaican Rum, Chai, Cream, Pumpkin Puree, Cinnamon, and Lemon so it tasted like an alcoholic pumpkin spice latte. I'm usually a fan of sweeter drinks, so I was a fan of it and the presentation was nice. Overall, if you like Christmas decorations then this place is good to visit. I've been here twice - once on a normal friday night and again during their holiday pop up bar. Parking is horrible in this area fyi. Walking in, you are transported to a new world. I love all their decorations. It's very instagramable. I enjoy their cocktails mainly because they are a little more unique. I hate it when bars repurpose normal drinks and just change the name to make it sound fancier without adding their own twist. During the holiday pop up, they put drinks in the cutest cups! The reason this gets a 5 star is because of their bar staff. They go above and beyond. They are always so polite and really look like they enjoy working there. We found this place thanks to Eater SF, and I loved it! It was a perfect balance of lively and intimate. There are plenty of bar seats and tables. You don't see the inside seating area until you walk in. The lighting is perfect. It was dim but not dark. The deco reminded me of a fun night market in Asia, featuring a painted wall and many posters. This place seems great for hanging out with friends and for dates. The service was great! Now let's talk about the drinks, I was so impressed. The menus features drinks inspired by different regions, and the drinks go from sweetest to not that sweet from top to bottom for each region. I tried the "save me a piece of corn," which features tequila, falernum, averna, atole del elote, and horchata. It was so unique and hard to describe. It's like an alcoholic corn juice. I would recommend giving it a try if you are adventurous, but be prepared that you might not like it because it's so different. My partner tried the "stable horse," which features mezcal, cynar, campari, and sea salt. It was so smooth and easy to drink. There are lots of other interesting drinks on the menu, and I would definitely return to try more! read more

It's so rare to find a groovy bar with no wait and no people breathing down your neck. SO lucky I stumbled upon this spot walking around Union Square! The vibes here are immaculate. I was there pretty early, around 7 pm on a Friday. An employee checked out our vax cards before we sat down, there were a few people at the bar and two bigger parties seating at tables. This bar is pretty small. Bartenders were very knowledgable and apparently well traveled! lol Ours was explaining how everyone that works there travels or traveled frequently. The menu is super innovative, basically taking you to a different part of the world with their cocktails. I love themes and creative drinks, so much fun! I stayed in the Americas for my first drink with "save me a piece of that corn", super creamy! The atole flavor was much more apparent than the horchata. Then I went to the Middle East with "hard to say Dubai" - I was go for some absinthe drink to see if I hallucinate...I didn't but it was still good. lol Will definitely go back when I'm in SF. read more

Visited Kona Street Market for the ""Super Asian"" cocktail popup and it was definitely one of the coolest themed pop ups I'd been to. The bar was fully decked with all sorts of decorations that fit the theme but it was really the drinks that stole the show. The Sippin' Santa pop-up during the holiday season was such a treat! We came on a Thursday evening around 7pm (there was no cover) and even had to wait in a short line before being let in. The bar was totally decked out in Tiki x Christmas decor, and there were also fun leis you could take and wear around. The cocktails were $18 each and came in super cool & photo-worthy drinkware (you have to give your ID so as to deter theft.) **1/5 Stars - Absolutely Horrible Experience** I've never been so uncomfortable at a bar in my life. The drinks were average at best, nothing to write home about, but that's the least of my concerns. The real issue was the staff. I reached for a straw at the bar, and before I could even grab it, one of the bartenders SLAPPED my hand away. No apology -- just outright aggression for a completely harmless action, it's a straw... I understand that bartenders can be busy, but that was completely uncalled for. I'm not here to be treated like I'm doing something wrong for trying to get a straw! Between the rude behavior and the mediocre drinks, I won't be returning. Definitely not worth the experience. Came here for the Christmas pop-up & it's my first time being here in general. It's a cool spot for sure. It was a decent Christmas setup for sure and the place filled up pretty fast after opening at 5. Drinks are around $18+each which is obviously not cheap but hey you're paying for the ambiance too. The service was good, prompt, fast. The drinks were very good, though I only had the same one twice, as seen in my pic. After tax & any fees you're looking at $20ish a drink. Are they worth it? No, I don't think any cocktail anywhere is worth $20 unless it's made with the finest liquors. But the drinks were delicious. My only gripe about the place are the barstools. Here's why: the stools are fine BUT either the bar to treat your feet on needs to be raised up or the seats need to be lowered. I'm 5'8 and the bar is too low so my feet dangle and it's uncomfortable after awhile. read more

I've been to Kona a couple times now, once for their xmas pop-up and another time for the halloween one. Overall, I think the location is super fun and I'm really glad to have it there just south of Market on 3rd. It brings personality to an area that is a bit dull. The xmas pop-up was definitely my favourite. The decorations were on point and so were the drinks. The halloween pop-up had pretty good decorations, but I thought the drinks were a little lackluster. I believe they were doing that event in partnership with another company, so that limits the input they can put into the drinks. Similarly, the music for the halloween event was not exactly what I'd call traditional spooky. If you're going for something like the above, there may be a line ahead of their open time. Particularly in the holiday season, depending on what else is going on, it becomes somewhat of a destination (ie, avoid coming here for Santacon!) So plan ahead! read more

Came to check out the Christmas decor and drinks here with a friend on a Thursday night around 9 pm, and it was HOPPING. When we first got there , it was super packed and folks were standing very close to each other. Definitely not for the covid conscious. The crowd started clearing out around 9:30/10, and we were finally able to snag a table and sit around 9:30. Along with a covid vaccination and ID check, you also have to pay $10 cover to get in. If I had known about this and about how crowded it would be beforehand, I don't know if I would've gone. The decor was cute though, with Christmas wrapping paper plastered over all the walls and lights everywhere. There are a variety of holiday cocktails on the menu, all for $18 each. I tried the Sipping Santa and my friend tried the Azul Navidad, but we ended up swapping drinks as the Azul Navidad was too coconut-y and sweet for my friend. I really enjoyed it though. Came here for the Christmas pop-up themed bar and really love the decorations, drinks, and overall vibe/atmosphere! While it's a bit less convenient to make your way to FiDi area just for this bar, I think it's well worth it. We came on a Thursday night and it wasn't too packed with standing room still available and tables turnover relatively quickly. The Christmas + beach theme was super cute and decorations all over the place with Christmas movies on the TV and music really brought the cheer- get leid right when you walk in! Friendly and attentive servers too. Really loved the drinks too! They come in these festive mugs that are super cute and can be purchased if you want to get an ad gift for friends or family. Loved all the drinks we got, which was most of the menu haha, but my favorite for taste was the Jingle Bird and the favorite for the looks was obviously the Sippin' Santa. There is wrapping paper all over the walls, holiday music blasting, and a dancing Santa. The drinks are all themed with punch bowls called "Mistletoe-to-toe" and of course a "Sippin' Santa." Went here for the Xmas bar pop-up and the interior was nice and festive. Everything from the design to the Christmas themed drinks and the music playing were on theme. Service was great and they were very organized with the ordering of drinks and serving our party. The Christmas themed cocktails tasted great (I ordered the Holiday on Ice) and I loved that there wasn't a cover charge. I'd say this was definitely worth the experience. Kona's Street Market reminds me of Asia so much! It feels like you're in a night market with a few friends having a great time. The owners are the same people behind PCH, the crafty drinks on the menu kinda gives it away too :) I love how their drinks are sectioned off by continents and tons of great, creative flavors that works so well. My favorite was the Red & Blue, the jackfruit whip was amazing. While it's a bit dark in here, you quickly forget and your eyes adjust to the colorful neon lights and light bulbs overhead. I've been meaning to come out to downtown to try this bar for a while. After hearing that the LA bar, Thunderbolt, was coming for a takeover for AAPI cocktail week, I had to give it a try. The team is same that started Pacific Cocktail Haven, another great bar in sf. The decor is really cute and festive giving an indoor outdoor cinema vibe. The menu was really good all around. The falsetto has a good combo of the mezcal and passionfruit and the foam makes the smokiness less intimidating. The fu gwaa (bittermelon in Cantonese) was an interesting one. The li hing is very intense and kinda washes out the bittermelon shochu. The service is really friendly and fast and I would absolutely recommend coming here. I am excited to try the regular menu at some point as well. read more

This cocktail bar is everything I've been missing this past year. Craft cocktails isn't something I make at home, and when you find a spot that gets you excited for every sip, you know you've found a winner. The red and blue was my favorite, not sure what ingredients went into it, but it was the jackfruit whip cream that made the drink for me. I haven't had a thing taste like that before, unreal. The banana one was alright, it didn't hit like the red and blue but it came in a really cool cup. The cocktail menu is innovative, creative and very well thought out. Drinks average around $15, and for what you are getting, to me it's worth it. I went on a weekday with some friends and the bar was nearly empty. The crowds haven't come back yet, but when they do, I believe this is going to be a go-to spot for a lot of people. Worth a stop if you are in the area. read more

Definitely a cute holiday bar, the decorations that fuse tiki with Santa is a very enjoyable festive experience. I'm curious why there was a pit bull neon Leon, but I'm with it. The Azul Navidad is the winning cocktail for me, but the holiday shot they had was a nice mint chip or peppermint mocha-esque drink. The others were a bit too sweet for my liking and at $18 I felt that was a bit of a downer, so that's the minus star. However, Jonathan (i think that was his name) provided stellar service. Also, if you're COVID conscious, I don't recommend it, can be semi cramped and it's also pretty loud in there. It's definitely a "basic" vibe but once in awhile I can hang with it. Super late post on this Christmas pop up in SF. We wanted to meet somewhere that wasn't too deep into the city and easily accessible from the freeway. We chose Kona's Street Market for a Tuesday night after 8pm a week or two before Christmas. I think it's a great pop up that doesn't have a line out the door where you're fighting or waiting in a long line to order drinks, find a seat or spot, or to take pics. We might have been lucky because it was raining on a weekday so people probably weren't going out. Anyways it's close to 80 and there's street parking nearby. No line, and we got a table and there's a server that comes around and takes your orders which is great. The music also isn't so loud so we can actually have conversations we can hear. The downside is that they don't sell any food. The bathrooms are public sharing all the way in the back. All of the cocktails are about $18, they have a tiki bowl and some shots. We just got 2 drinks each which was like over a $40 bar trip/happy hour. Me and my friend both started off with the Ho Ho Hot Buttered Rum which was perfect for that cold rainy day. We also got other drinks based upon the cup, kind of wanted tequila-- Sharkey's First Christmas, Yule Tide, Merry Spritsmas, and Sippin Santa. They keep inve fort of the cups because people try to take them. Service was great, the drinks were awesome but a little pricey. I'd like to see this place when it's not the holidays but I'd highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a Christmas pop up around the holidays! read more

Came on a busy Saturday evening before last call, wanted to try out this new cocktail bar that's sister to PCH! Indoor seating had tables pretty close together due to the smaller space, the overhead lights were well decorated but overall ambiance was a bit too bright IMO. Also the bathroom situation was interesting - it's all the way past the back door into a shared hallway space that's very brightly lit, sometimes you may need a key to get in if one of the individual bathroom doors weren't shut correctly. Drinks were decent, very creative menu. Nothing too memorable, but looking to try more in the future. Was a little disappointed with the meat pie - it's basically two stuffed parathas, very oily, pretty sure they just heated it up, not worth the $16. Maybe we they were understaffed considering all the tables were filled but it was hard to get someone's attention, and we didn't get water until the very end. One big plus is that they practiced COVID health protocols pretty well - you can only order through the waiter/waitresses, not at the bar. read more

A friend suggested we go here for drinks after dinner. We were a group of 8. The place was crowded, but a server came up to our group and grabbed a drink order. We had to hand over a few IDs for the bar to keep, because apparently patrons were stealing their Santa ceramic glasses, so they kept your ID till you returned the glass. I eventually tabbed out for the group, trying to help the busy server, having everyone Venmo me. When the bill came, I asked why it was so high. I had already paid the bill when I was told there was a 22% gratuity added to the bill for large groups. This is a bar, no food is served, but they still charged tax--increasing the bill $88 for 14 drinks. A drink was $18, BUT it was $18 + 4 tip + $3 tax = $25 per drink?!?! The service (even the door guys) was timely and friendly, the atmosphere and decor where great, and the drinks were yummy. We all just left feeling a little cheated. read more

Came here on a Wednesday. It wasn't busy, and the servers were fabulous. I live in San Diego but I came here because I go to San Francisco for work and I follow a dog on Instagram named Apollo The Frenchie. He goes there all the time with his dad and I was hoping to run into him. That's the only reason why I came. But I was pleasantly surprised by the cocktail selection, and how wonderful the wait staff were. I would definitely recommend this place even if you don't get to see Apollo the Frenchie. The bartender gave me a suggestion for a drink, which I was not a fan of. I felt bad telling him I didn't like it and he came over and asked, but I told him it was good and my friends told him I wasn't a fan . He said that he could tell I didn't like it . So he made me another drink and didn't charge me for the one I didn't like. I appreciate bartenders that are aware of their surroundings, and can tell when someone doesn't like a drink. I definitely recommend this place to anyone in San Francisco if they're looking for a really cool cocktail bar. read more

This is one of my favorite cocktail bars in SF, which is wonderfully related to their cousin Pacific Cocktail Haven; you can tell they're from the same pedigree. Every drink on the menu has always been fantastic, easy to drink, great flavors, and fun themed. The theme of their drinks here are "worldwide" featuring themed drinks from different countries - pretty cool. My favorites are the Iran So Far Away, Rock the Kasbah, and Milk Was A Bad Choice. In addition to their regular menu, they do have specials on their wall from time to time! The service here is fantastic too. The bartenders seem to remember us, which is kind of crazy since my husband and I don't go that often (or do we? Lol. I'm a nurse 3 nights a week, and probably a closet alcoholic the other 4). My friends and coworkers also love this place!!! This past year, I feel like generally it's a pretty empty bar (so sad), but it has always been pretty easy to get a table or bar seating without waiting, whether before dinner or after dinner. Recently though, with the Sippin' Santa takeover, the line was horrendous, and they were even charging a $10 cover fee, which I'm not a fan of, but will pay since I absolutely love this cocktail bar. The Sippin' Santa takeover has been fantastic too!! The entire bar has been decorated from head to toe with Christmas lights, wallpaper, blow up snowmen, garland, etc. We waited about 30 mins last Sat night. I once again really hate the new $10 cover fee (which was nonexistent before the Sippin Santa), and I hope it goes away at least when the holiday theme is done for. You must come here, and won't be disappointed, if you're into cocktails that actually taste amazing.
