I came here after I heard they had some really good food. After we ordered our dishes, they brought out the usual side dishes you'd find at most korean restaurants. I have to say they have some of the best kim chi that I've ever had. It's slightly more fermented than usual, making it slightly more sour, which I love. They also had a sweet and spicy tofu that I've never had before. I usually don't like tofu, but I really enjoyed this one. I was thoroughly surprised when the fried chicken (bone-out) came because off the size of the plate. It came with a generous portion of seasoned fries, chicken, and salad covered in a vinegary sauce. The vinegary salad was a really nice addition to cut all of the heavy fried food we were eating. The cold noodles was a little intimidating to eat at first due to the large amount of red sauce they put in, but it had the perfect amount of spice. The beef was a little tough, but not the worst beef I've had, and it still tasted great. TLDR; I had a wonderful first time experience. I will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu. Omg this place is amazing! We stumbled in here when we planned to go somewhere else but it was a very happy accident. It is a hole in the wall place in the best way possible. Cool vibes inside and the food.... YUMMY. We got the fried chicken, bbq brisket, kimchi potato pancakes and everything came with veggies on the side. Everything was so good! The food is on the more pub and bar-y side of things - lots of shareable dishes/appetizers that match well with beer and soju but wouldn't be my first choice if you want a full on meal since the ambiance/environment of this place doesn't call for that. They do have more entree like options like jjajangmyun and different stews (but honestly think that Jong Kak, the restaurant next door does actual entrees way better than here). But foodwise, I would recommend their fried chicken, cheese teokkbokki & corn cheese (for all you cheese lovers of there), and any of their budae jiggaes because they do these very well and may very well the be only place you can find korean food made this way in this city. The theme of this place is very unique and reminds me a lot of New York (If it was more crowded and if there were more tables). It has a retro korean 90s korean theme going on with korean posters of 90s boy bands and actors plastered all over the walls and nostalgic 90s korean music playing in the background. It's overall a very chill place to kick it back for drinks and fried chicken (a must here!) or cheese corn (also a crowd favorite) and overall pretty affordable, especially when you're sharing food with a large group of people. It's never been super crowded in my two visits here but I think it's because they just opened and still getting the word out. But I see so much potential in this place and glad that a korean themed bar has opened in the Bmore city! Most importantly, they have a fantastic selection of beer, soju, and other korean liquor (at a pretty affordable price) that really makes you feel like you're in a bar in Korea and appreciate the genuine nature of Kong! This is a great place to bring a large group of friends (because they have optimal seating) or for a fun date night! My group of friends and I went to Kong Po Cha for the first time for some food and drinks on a Saturday night. Overall, we all enjoyed the place and the servers were nice but there were many aspects of our experience that could have been better including food. We ordered: - Kongpocha Chicken (their signature bone in k-fried chicken) - Rice Box - Sit Fried Beef - Drinks (soju and beer, this is a must when you order k-fried chicken as everyone knows) Knowing previous restaurants that have went through this particular location, Kong did a nice job of renovating, fixing up, and decorating the spot. This place really gave me that 7080 vibe and even the menus had old fashion textbook covers! Details all around the restaurant were impressive. Let's get into the food. *First up. Kongpocha Chicken * We got the plain fried chicken and it came with a side of spring mix in light dressing which added to the chicken nicely. The chicken was crispy but little too blend. Good thing our server was nice enough to give us the spicy sauce on the side. Also, the drum stick I had was on the border line pink/slimy. Small pieces were cooked all the way fortunately. Would I order this dish again? Maybe but probably not. *Rice box * This was the best. My parents would definitely walk down the memory lane if they saw and ate this. I mixed it little bit with a spoon, closed the lid, and shook it really hard which is how you are supposed to eat this (Try this method). It was a good home-made dish and delicious. Would I order this dish again? Yes, definitely. *Sit Fried Beef * We all loved the first bite as there was a lot of flavor and we could tell that they torched the top to finish. It was very smokey but it was not a good value, considering that the price was almost $20 and there was maybe five pieces of meat and some sprouts. Overpriced. Would I order this dish again? No. *Drinks* We tried to order the drink special where you get a soju and beer as a combo. They said it is only for Monday through Thursday. Bummed. We just ended up ordering them separately but their drink prices were fair. Let's talk about the bathrooms. We all know bathrooms are important. Renovation was visibly done from previous restaurants (trust me, this is a good thing) but they needed more routine check ups. Men's bathroom did not have any paper towel and the soap dispenser in women's did not work. Let's talk about the bill. Picture attached for anyone to correct me if I am wrong. I usually do not audit receipts I get from restaurants, who has time to do that? I found this out when I was trying to split the cost for my friends. Kong's calculation turns out that they charged me the alcohol tax twice. My total should have been $106, not $108. If you have visited this place and saved your receipt, check to see if the calculation was done right. Not a big deal. I am not going back to get my few bucks but I thought it was worth mentioning this in my review. The receipt shows 6% and 9% respectively after all the itemized lines. 6% is the food tax and 9% is the alcohol tax in MD. Overall, I am on the fence if I would go back to Kong Po Cha. Would I drive 10 more mins and go to Ellicott City to grab late night Korean food and drinks instead? Maybe. I will give Kong another shot in the near future. I've really wanted to try cheese tteokbokki and was not disappointed! It was spicy and sweet with the perfect amount of cheese. My boyfriend ordered the cream omurice and loved it. The waiter forgot about my teriyaki mayo chicken cup-bap and milkis, but once I brought it up again they were very apologetic and it came out shortly after. I definitely plan to come again! I've tried Kong Pocha a few times and have consistently LOVED their Omu-rice. The Curry and Creamy Omu-rice are both consistently great. I'm so glad that it's so accessible here in Baltimore. What hasn't been consistently great has been their fried chicken. I was definitely looking for something closer to Bonchon and was disappointed with the one here. I do have to say that it wasn't all that bad. I thought their soondubu was fine as well. I definitely order here whenever I'm craving Omu-rice though! read more

Look. They get 5 stars just for how good their seafood soondubu is alone. But some more details. My husband and I were craving Korean food after a day of moving and had been meaning to try out Kong Pocha since sampling their food during a Charm City Night Market Koreatown tour. Two things immediately caught my eye: omurice and soondubu. And needing some veggies, we ordered the pork bibimbap. The food was quickly ready for pickup and when we went into get it, guys, I can't wait to visit this place to dine-in cause it looks like a fantastic spot for a night out with friends. BBQ, soju, and chicken in this spot looks FIRE. But setting aside, when we got home, we were pleasantly surprised to see that they packed a few little banchan along with the meal! Delicious kimchi and pickled radish. Foodwise: - The soondubu was FANTASTIC. Absolutely full of flavor and a slight rich sweetness that I adore. The tofu was soft and silk, there were clams, shrimp, and little octopus bits. My fave soondubu ever including places I've had in NY. - The creamy curry omurice is comfort food central. I've never had a creamy omurice sauce and this was perfection. - The bibimbap was delicious and really can't argue with anything there. Would highly recommend the butter chicken - I don't think it says it on the menu but it comes with fries and a side salad! I had to re-do this review because I wrote a review for a different Pocha place in a different state LOL. My bf and I stopped here after a trip to Baltimore to wind down since we were too pooped to drive 2 hours back without some alcohol~ (don't worry we didn't drink and drive, I ptfo in the car after for an hour before we hit the road). The ambiance is kind of quirky and random, but at the same time it all ties together since they're going for a retro pocha/Korean street vibe. Their menus also add to this theme and I thought the menus were super cute and a creative idea. They look like old school Korean elementary school workbooks. We ordered some steamed dumplings and we were also delighted to see yogurt soju on the menu. I had never tried actual bottled yogurt soju, only the cocktail version where the yogurt is mixed with soju and sprite. The soju was soooo good and I really wish they sold these at my local ABC store. I have yet to find them :( OH and the sojus here are super affordable! Much cheaper than what I'm used to at the bars in my area. The dumplings were pretty good and banchans were decent too. Service seemed a bit chaotic since there was this young lady running around frantically even though it wasn't very busy... but she was so cute being all flustered and working hard, so there was honestly nothing to complain about. read more

Staff seem like they were more in a rush to get out of there, then to actually serve their guest. we were ordering for a party of 20 little over $500. Ever since Bonchon closed, I've been on the hunt for great korean fried chicken. While Kong's chicken might not be perfect, it's pretty darn good. Our server recommended the butter lemon with a side of the spicy sauce. We got it to-go and so the chicken wasn't piping hot anymore by the time we got home, but it was still very tasty! You can definitely taste the butter with a slight lemony-ness to it to cut through the fat. Dipping it into the spicy sauce was perfect, as our server recommended. I went here after finding myself constantly annoyed with the usual spot that's next door. I am glad I went into Kong. The setup is a little odd upon entering but the food was very good. If you go in the winter for Korean BBQ be aware that you may be cold because the tables are close to the front door. Make sure you get the friend chicken no matter what you order because it's delicious. Also kudos to our server, she was in there solo and was doing an amazing job. Her by her law has better service than the restaurant next door that shall remain nameless buu t rhymes with noon clock. read more

I'm happy that there's a korean place in Baltimore. I'm from New York and went down to Baltimore for a weekend get away. We had a ton of seafood and wanted a change of flavor. The interior unique and not glamorous but has character. I like their set up and wish there's a few spots like Kong is New York. The staff were super friendly and always ensured the tabled is properly served with water and side dishes. We order their Cream Omu-Rice which was crack. It was so good that my friends and I had to order more for a mid-night snack. We also ordered their seafood pancake, cheese dukbogi, Sogogibusut-Jungol and their fried chicken bone in. Sogogibusut-Jungol, was really good with the meat in the middle. It's kinda spicy but worth the sweat. Fried chicken was addicting as well with their chilli sauce! I highly recommend this place and super affordable. For a Korean restaurant, their prices are really reasonable. read more

Kong is a great Korean pub in Baltimore city, an area which typically has a dearth of good Asian food. The food is pretty good! I've had the fried chicken, corn cheese, jjajangmyeon, and jjampong. It's not the best Korean food, but for Baltimore (and not having to drive all the way to Ellicott City), it's great. There's plenty of different soju flavors and beer to whet your appetite, and it's more affordable than at some other restaurants. Note: Kong has more of a "chill" vibe -- my friends and I were told on one occasion that we were being too loud, which is unfortunate when it's so quiet that you're not allowed to freely have a good time over drinks. However, the servers are always very nice, and sometimes give free dishes! read more

Kong is a great new Korean pub, it reminds me of a place in Oakland California. The atmosphere /decor is dark but yet welcoming, the decorations are fun! The staff is very friendly and greet you as soon as you walk in. They are very helpful if you have any questions about any of the dishes. One downside is they only have a few Korean bbq tables that fit smaller groups, less than 5. So if you get there at a busier time you may have to wait. Upsides are all of the foods we tried were excellent! I especially loved the fried squid, it was cooked and seasoned perfectly!
