This fast food local plate lunch restaurant is right across from valley of the temples, so once we were done visiting, we decided to hop/drive across the street to eat here. Veal Cutlet - 3 stars - size is reasonable for the price, but it tasted processed. No real veal meat, mostly breaded or blended meat fried patties. I didn't really care for it, plus it was greasy. The fish my hubby ordered was frozen, not fresh, but it tasted way better than my veal cutlet. Again, it was a bit greasy. They have healthier meals like fried garlic shrimp salad. All in all typical local style drive inn honestly thats very similar and hard to differentiate between some of the others really. I come here especially for one plate. It is unbelievable. Garlicky greatness. Spicy Chicken wings and garlic shrimp. They both have a garlicky Asian salt and pepper taste. Chicken wings are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and the shrimp is cooked perfectly so that the skin doesn't stick. The Mac salad is pretty good too! From Koolau Drive Inn, I ordered the mini grilled ahi. It came with three decently sized pieces with a scoop of white rice and you could choose wether you wanted a macaroni salad or a tossed salad. It also included a slice of lemon which added a lot of flavor to the fish and made it taste a whole lot better. The fish itself was very tasty and not dry at all. I enjoyed it and the amount they gave me was just right. For the salad, I could tell they used a cheap brand of lettuce, which I expected from places like these, but it was still rather disappointing. I rate this restaurant four stars because while it was enjoyable, nothing is perfect. I would come here again! read more

Ok, this update is just to review their spicy garlic wings. I've never noticed this item on the menu before, so I'm not too sure if it's a new dish or I just never really looked at the menu before thoroughly. Haha. These wings are bomb! They are super crispy, Juicy, has a kick from the peppers and they're garlicky. Freshly fried once ordered, it's accompanied and tossed in a fried garlic and pepper concoction. It did have a little zing to it, so I'm not too sure if they're also tossed with a little bit of fish sauce. But whatever it is. It's delicious! Plate came with 7 winglets. The perfect portion for me. Be warned though. They are garlicky, so if you're taking it to work or not home, the area will be infused of the scent. And maybe even yourself. Haha. Deducted one star only due to having to wait another 10 minutes after I had phone ordered and came within the 15-20 minute timeframe given. Enjoy this scrumptious meal. I grew up hungry. I clearly remember sucking on the middle of my tshirts when I was a child just to appease the wanting of food in my mouth. As the eldest of 5 and my parents working to the bone - I understood the power of being hungry. So it goes without saying i am not one to throw food away or being wasteful in any kind of way. Unfortunately today, I threw away my mini Katsu and my French fries. The Katsu was overcooked. The sauce was watery and unsatisfying. The Mac salad just tasted like idk I could barely even taste the Mayo so it wasn't fresh. The French fries - how does this item get overcooked as well? I imagine myself at the fryer - and would want my customer to have hot crisp fries w salt. I wouldn't walk away and check nonsense on my phone. Or sit down. The food was in poor taste. I didn't even want my sisters dog to eat it. I normally do not complain as I want to encourage self ownership and local eateries but gosh - if you're gonna cook food - care about the food and the ppl you're serving. Great low key, local restaurant. We came a little after lunch on a weekday so it wasn't crazy busy. The guy who was at the register was very nice too! We ordered a regular sized order of the kalbi and we were impressed! I believe there were 3 or 4 pieces of short ribs in the order and it had a good amount of rice. The wait for the food wasn't long either. It was maybe 5-10 minutes, so not too long. One thing we did notice was that most of the customers were taking their food to-go. I don't blame them; the interior isn't the nicest. It reminds me of an old Chinese take-out restaurant where there's all booths connected to the floor. We've gone to a bunch of other restaurants were they sold kalbi and we agreed that this place had the best; which is kinda sad considering we were paying a lot more at other places. If we come back to Honolulu, we wouldn't mind driving up here at least once. read more

This place is awesome if you want low key, good, local food. I usually stop by when I'm not in the cooking mood. Their chicken katsu is really good, not overcooked and dry like other places. The guy who works at the front is really helpful and always pleasant. It never ceases to amaze me that with all the years I've hung out on the Windward side of the island, there's still these eateries that I haven't tried yet and this places falls into that category. Located in a a small mall at Temple Valley, it's an unassuming restaurant...or so one would think. For decades, I've been a faithful L&L fan but for the first time my allegiances are shaken. Their mochiko chicken and chicken katsu are well done with a tasty crispy exterior, not too oily or soggy. Their Asian chicken salad are very generous portions and fills a mini-styrofoam platter with tasty shredded chicken and a custom mayonnaise - catsup sauce with a few other secret ingredients. The service is very good and they are taking phone orders. The portions are generous and prices are very reasonable. Now that I know about this place, I'm going to have to visit more often in the future to do research. It was my first time to eat something new in this area. From what i saw, it looked very good and I wanted to give it a try. But when i asked for a cup of ice, they gave me water instead. However I did enjoy the lemon chicken with the brown rice and my friend enjoyed his chicken katsu plate. At least they were able to deliver the drinks on the table and one thing that I was surprised that they sold tobacco products, which was kind of unusual. But I didn't want to pay too attention on the tobacco products because I wanted to get a plastic bag because my friend was getting stuffed from all of the food he ate. I just wished that they didn't get my item mixed up. So luckily they were able to correct it and give me what I asked for. So the next time I do eat there, please make sure that they get what they asked for so there will be no confusion and get it right the first time. read more
