A really put together & clean whole in the wall restaurant. Decided to grab dinner here since the hubs works nearby, we used to come here religiously for dinner but stopped coming for awhile. Just got dinner recently and wow they upgraded their menus! So high tech and fancy now. They offer all types of different varieties of plate lunches, burgers, saimins, etc. My go to is usually the bbq chicken or chicken katsu. I decided to try something different and tried out their sweet sour spareribs. The spareribs was really good I wish it was a little more tender but overall taste was good! I love their katsu sauce it's sweet, tangy & peppery. I always get French fries at drive inn's because I love the crinkle fries, but this one seemed to have the shoestring fries. No complaints because they cook it fresh & it was PIPING hot when I got it. Food portions are HUGE and for the price? Dang can't beat. I feel like this is a family owned business and I love supporting small and local business owners. The cashier much older Asian lady was really nice and helpful. We come here once a week to pick up a plate of chicken katsu for dinner. The boys love it (and prefer it over L&L) and the portions are so generous. The owners are really nice too. Call in your order ahead of time to save on time. The parking lot can sometimes get crowded during peak meal times (this establishment shares parking with Masa & Joyce and Kin Wah, which are landmarks in Kaneohe), but just be patient as cars are constantly pulling in and out of stalls. In addition to the katsu, we also like the eggplant (ala carte), which is made Chinese-style. It has a kick to it, so if you don't like spicy foods, ask for it mild. read more

I had their mixed plate, Teri beef with garlic chicken, my wife had their orange chicken and my son had their mixed plate mochiko chicken and garlic chicken. What do you do when your hungry, and trying to get lunch at 3:00 PM???? I figah, if good enough for Auntie Nadine, & Christine L., then good enough for Bruddah Fran! Where is L&R Drive Inn located???? Well, best way to describe it...........it's just across the street from Windward City Shopping Center, just next door to Masa & Joyce Okazuya. L&R Drive Inn is a small mom & pop joint, and I must say I get a kick out of coming into these little hole-in-the-wall joints because it has old skool character. Upon walking into the joint, I see a very large extensive menu...........so many items they offer out of this little restaurant! After looking over the wall menu, I decided to get the Seafood Combo Plate ($10.65). What is the Seafood Combo plate? Well, you get Mahi Mahi, Fried Shrimp, and 1 choice of meat (Lemon Chicken, Chicken Katsu, Chicken Cutlet, BBQ Chicken, Teriyaki Steak, BBQ Short Ribs, or Teriyaki Pork Chop) I ended up getting the BBQ Chicken. What can I say about da Grindages???? I must say you get A LOT OF GRINDZ for just over $10 bucks! To be exact..........I paid $11.15 w/tax for this Seafood Combo plate. I got (3) pieces of Fried Shrimp, (1) piece of Mahi Mahi, & (2) large slabs of butterfly BBQ Chicken. For a minute there, I thought I had gotten jipped as I did not see the Mahi Mahi..........but after digging under the shrimp, I found my Mahi Mahi buried under the pile of food! How did the grub taste? The food was not outstanding, but good! To be honest, the BBQ Chicken was the best part of my meal...........but don't get me wrong, I like Fried Shrimp, & the Mahi Mahi was good, but the Mahi Mahi was so small after it was deep fried. Lol! On the bright side...........the food was made to order, and the food came out hot & fresh! Service here was friendly, and the restaurant is clean! Plate lunches in Kaneohe... A long time ago, I my coworker and I dined here a few times. She really liked the food at L & R. I couldn't remember anything, so I decided to visit again. The parking lot is shared with a Chinese restaurant, a convenience store, an Okazuya, and other businesses, so it's quite busy. When I walked in on a weekday afternoon, three workers were sitting around...one had his head down on the table, as if taking a nap. I went up to the cash register, waiting for one of them to take my order. After a while, I ordered the three specials of the day: Spicy eggplant and Chicken Katsu Beef Tomato and Mushroom chicken BBQ chicken with sweet sour spare ribs The other two guys cooked while the cashier answered the phone and munched on an apple. Haha...it must be a slow time between lunch and dinner! Anyway, I liked my meals. The macaroni salad that came with each plate was slightly sweet. I liked the flavor of the sweet sour spare ribs and the beef tomato brought back happy memories (not as good as my mom's, but close). The crunchiness of chicken Katsu was enhanced by the katsu sauce. The spicy eggplant wasn't too spicy, but a bit mushy. The BBQ chicken was tasty! I liked the mushrooms of the Mushroom chicken entree! I can see why this hole-in-the-wall place is popular. They have a very cheap lunch menu where you can get a mini plate for about $7. I was in the mood for some old fashion beef curry stew so I ordered a mini plate. The quantity was good, the meat to potato and carrot ratio was good (there was ample beef chunks), and the taste is what I expected. Some of the meat was slightly tough but the flavor was good.
