My family wasn't one for food traditions, but this place was one of our few. Whenever we came up to visit my grandma in Chester, we would end up going to the Kopper Kettle. I can't say I grew up eating at many places, and the nostalgia of this place rather than the food is probably what lead to this four star review. Which, I know, is the worst way to review. But I just can't shake the good memories surrounding this place, its staff, and the huge portions. I'll certainly be back. read more

Huge improvement. We were seated in a noisy booth and the waitress was super quick to move us. Ordered and wasn't a long wait for food as packed as the restaurant was. My husband wasn't excited about the all meat scramble. I tasted it and it was over seasoned with sage. It's all you could taste. My meal was simple with eggs, bacon and hasbrowns. Can't really mess it up. It was good. I think we could give this place another try later on. It is competing with the Lumberjack so the simple food is a bit pricey. The portions are big! It's more of a brunch than breakfast. The vegetable omelette I had was more than filling, with home style potatoes on the side. The only thing redeeming about our visit was the omelette was decent. We walked in, frenzied energy, asked if we could sit outside, were told no, 5 minutes later people were getting served out there. Should have left then. The tables were bussed slowly such that the place had a after-party feel of a college dorm. The waitresses were also working the register. They were disorganized. Our order was screwed up multiple times. Our waitress was very apologetic, but her mistakes were plentiful. On an entertaining note, the "capuccino" on the menus was a pre-packaged cappucino (the kind you add water to) and it was laughably horribly sweet and tasteless. The reviews make it sound like this place used to be great. Not anymore. If I had no other choice, I would eat here. read more

I have been coming here for almost 30 years. The place has grown in size but the food never disappoints. The portions are big and the prices are reasonable. The service is excellent and they make you feel like a local even if you are on vacation. If anyone tells me the are going to Lake Almanor, I always tell them they can't leave without going to the Kopper Kettle. read more

Just got back home from a visit to the Kopper Kettle Cafe in Chester, and i have never seen a more pathetic excuse for customer service in my life. Mind you all i have been in food service for about three years now. First off, i ordered a, what i thought would be, a nice plate of Chicken Parmesan. One of my favorite meals. It came out to me both burnt and nasty tasting, i could only stomach two bites before i had it sent back. If i had to compare it to something, the breading tasted like stagnant dish water. It might just be me overthinking it now, but im not feeling too great after those few bites i took. Secondly, Allura Moore had a glass of Orange Juice, and she asked for a refill. Our server Kristen replied "sure but i will have to charge you, since it is not technically qualified for a refill". To that Allura replied, "no, water will be fine then". She came back and set a full cup of orange juice on our table, which she did not ask for. Lastly, and this is where it gets pretty shitty guys, When she comes to hand us our checks Allura Politely asked for her to remove the second charge of orange juice, as she did not ask for it, and she said "I cant pour it back into the jug" and proceeded to claim that Allura said that she did want the OJ, and that Allura did not say no to receiving the cup when she set it on the table. to which Allura replied "I had said No thank you the water will be fine, i did not ask for the Juice you must have not heard me" and Kristen (our server) continued to argue with us over a $4 cup of fucking OJ. Kevin Thayer interjected and asked for her manager, to which she replied "I am the only one here." Kevin then said "Okay so you are the acting manager on duty, who is YOUR boss" she replied "She is not here right now, her name is Amy and she will be here at 6pm, if you would like to talk to her." We asked for her bosses number, to which she did not give us. I replied in a very very angry voice, "We will be back". She left to her stand and called her boss and i could clearly hear her not explaining the full story to her boss. She said her boss would be there at 4pm if we would like to wait, since it was 3:58 we did decide to wait. We waited until about 4:20 for her boss to show up, to which she didnt. We got up to pay our bills for the food we did eat. She threw Allura's change onto the counter, and did not say the typical "Thank you for visiting, have a nice day" Which any GOOD server would have said even if the customer had complained. We will be calling back at 6pm, because the attitude coming from this server was outright bullshit. Ill be sure to let you all know how that goes. 0/10 will never go back. Fuck this place read more

My food was really good but the waiter "cadence" was very rude. We waited for her to bring us some more of our drink like most of the other waiters do but every time she walked by our table she looked the opposite way. Went to the copper kettle on the recommendation of our parents. This was the first time my brother and I had ever been there. As we sat down at our table we noticed how unclean it was. We kindly asked our server if she could please wipe it down. This type of request seemed to irritate her even though this is part of her job. While we were sitting there and her wiping it down with an unclean rag, most of the crumbs fell into my lap. We then proceed to have a family conversation on the incident when we noticed a person at the table next to us had begun calling us douchebags and whiners. I've then turned over my shoulder and asked him if he had an issue and if you would like to go outside to get to know me a little bit better. My brother had stood up and also asked him if you'd like to come outside to get to know him a little bit better as well. Even though minding our own business, we were insulted by the ponytail wearing local and no doubt high school football hero who may or may not work at the local Subway. Even though we probably were within our right to stay there and continue our dining experience we decided to leave rather than go to prison for homicide, even though the local fly probably should have been the one asked to leave. If you want an establishment with dirty tables and insulting local piss ants than Copper Kettle is for you if not stay far and clear away from this dirty establishment and ponytail boy. read more

I came into town to visit my son and decided to go to the Kopper Kettle. I lived in the area for 10 years and now come up to visit. We had a party of 5 adults and my grand daughter. Only 1 other table occupied when we got there. It took alnost an hour to get our food but 3 other tables filled and served before our food came. Only 4 of us received our food and I had to ask about the other two meals. My daughter in laws order was wrong. Being nice, she said to me it's ok I'll just east around it would take to long for them to cook another. I was a little upset not seeing her eat so I told the waitress the order was wrong. Her response "let me see whose fault it was" Really, not the response I expected. Waited for her to come back and she didn't return. She went and picked up someone else's food to deliver. I had to get on the road so we got up to leave and the waitress said "have a great day". Raising good kids, they said leave a tip anyway. This doesn't mean you did a great job it meant I raised good kids with morals. read more

We frequently eat at the Kopper Kettle In Susanville, Ca. (once or twice a week) We figured that the one in Chester would be good also........Wrong. After standing at the sign that said please wait to be seated for 12 minutes with out being acknowledged, we were finally seated at a table by a grumpy older woman. We had to flag her down numerous times to get beverages refilled and she acted although we were inconveniencing her. When we FINALLY got our meals, there were 4 of us, one of the orders was completely wrong. As she slammed our food on the table and spilled water on our plates she growled, "what's the problem?' I responded by saying, no problem, this is not what I ordered. She stormed of and came back and said, "so what do you want me to do?' I replied nothing, I will just eat these meal. You received this 1 star only because the good experiences with have a Susanville, otherwise it will be zero. We had a long day of driving, and some comfort food was exactly what we needed at 8:30 on a Sunday night. What we weren't prepared for was for it to be first rate! We kept it simple...my wife and I shared a big chicken salad and a BLT with a couple of coronas. Everything fresh, bacon was perfect and chicken moist...came with onion rings which were perfect...and then we discovered that Amy, the owner, makes her own pies...berry rhubarb a la mode!
