Bulgogi Bibimbap

I LOVE Korean express! I first went here as a student at Hunter but years later it's remained a fave. The portions are plentiful and the flavor is perfection! Till next time!

Wonderful spot for a lunch date or friendly meetup. You get A LOT of rice for a really good price AND it's quick. A shame the water cups are so small. I refuse to pay for water, NYC tap water is the best.

Everyday lunch special with two entrees and one side. Bulgogi Kimbap as well.

For lunch, I decided to a nearby spot at work. Korean Express is quick with their service. I got their lunch special with bulgogi (marinated beef), tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and fries. It hits the spot since I don't have time to travel to K-town for my lunch break. The ambiance is best described as a quick casual bite for students and young adults. I only get take out. I always see more than half the tables full when I walk in.

Unfortunately this was a miss for me. I was excited to try korean food as there aren't many restaurants on the UES and this was a quick casual spot. However the food was greasy and lacking flavor. The seafood pajeon barely had seafood and was cold. The kimchi fried rice and army stew had no flavor.

This spot is perfect for enjoying a quick and delicious variety of Korean dishes. From galbi, soups, and kimbap to bibimbap and Korean-style fried chicken, the menu offers something for everyone. I tried the kimchi stew, served in a piping hot stone pot, accompanied by pickled radish and kimchi as side dishes. The first bite instantly transported me back to Korea--it was perfectly spicy and packed with flavor. The aged kimchi, tender meat, and tofu blended beautifully. With New York's first snowfall yesterday, enjoying this warm and authentic kimchi stew on a cold day was pure comfort. One downside, however, is that aside from the stone pot, they use plastic and disposable containers for everything else. The rice bowl, side dish plates, and even the utensils were all made of plastic. It would be great if they could switch to reusable tableware in the future. I'm still looking forward to coming back to try more dishes!

For quick, inexpensive Korean food, this place is pretty good! My daughter works nearby and her co-workers are regulars. She, my husband, and I came here for dinner recently because it was not far from an auditorium where we were headed. I ended up ordering Vegetable Jab-Chae (sweet potato noodles with vegetables and mushrooms) and liked it. My husband had Shrimp Fried Rice, something he loves at most places, and thought it was good but better when he added hot sauce. My daughter had one of their Pajeons (savory pancakes) - it was slightly overcooked but she still liked it. Service was friendly and fairly quick. You place your order at the register and find a table after paying. The ambience was fine for a casual place. It's nothing fancy but we weren't there for that.

Came for a quick eat during dinnertime and was happy there weren't that many people. I thought this place, because its a self-service place, would be less than $15 but unfortunately it was not. I would say if you're in the area, it's not a bad place to eat at all BUT if you're closer to Koreatown would just recommend going to BDG Tofu House. I ordered the Kimchi Tofu Stew and it was pretty good. The flavors were very intense and I appreciate how many different ingredients they had in there. I especially liked the egg that was soft boiled so that it melted all over the tofu stew. I wish they gave more banchans past kimchi but that's okay. I also had the opportunity to try the Hot Stone Bibimbap and was not a fan as the charred rice on the bottom was a bit overwhelming. Overall, not a bad place for Korean food in Midtown but would not be my first choice for tofu stew.

This place brings me back to my college days since it's a couple blocks from Hunter college. I'm glad the restaurant is still here after so many years. I felt that the quality of the food was not as great as I remembered. But so many years have past, it could be different cooks and a change my taste buds? LOL don't come to expecting Korean town quality is what I'm trying to say. Also there are plenty of seating. FYI - There is a self service of water, hot and cold is available.

What a great lunch special deal! The lunch special is offered 11:30-3 pm. You get 2 entrees and a side did $11.95. My mom and I got: 1) lunch special: Spicy pork, bulgogi, and japchae ($11.95) 2) lunch special: Spicy pork, bulgogi, and kimchi fried rice ($11.95) 3) fried chicken wings - half spicy and half mild (6 pieces for $8.95) I really enjoyed everything. It was flavorful and the spicy pork had a little kick. The bulgogi was not very sweet. I preferred the kimchi fried rice over the japchae. The wings were good too! Crispy and not overbearing with a lot of sauce. I will definitely come back! There are some tables for you to eat at along the side and in the back of the restaurant.

Service was quick. When I searched the menu, it said they had jajangmyun but when I tried to order in person, it's not on the menu at all. Food wasn't out of the ordinary but affordable than usual Korean restaurants in the city. It has a similar vibe to food court meals.

Very authentic Korean food, good service, and the food came out pretty quickly. I will definitely be back. Probably tomorrow. If you've spent any time in Korea, yes, it's that good.

I ordered in ubereats to my office on UWS. They have fast delivery (15-20 mins) and amazing kimbap. I ordered bulgogi kimbap and bulgogi over rice. The kimbap is not pictured because I inhaled it it was that amazing. The bulgogi meat is good and the rice is nice and soft.

First time here! I ordered Kimchi Fried Rice, Bulgogi, and Spicy Pork all for $11 lunch special! This has to be the best budget friendly meal I've had in NY. Looking at the color of the Kimchi Fried rice, you already know it was spicy and moist! And it was.The Bulgogi and Spicy Pork were soft and juicy as well. I'd definitely come back and order the same thing. Might as also add Kimbap because the pictures look good!! P.s Thanks to the workers for holding my purse when I forgot it! You guys are lifesavers!

Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. It is a cloudy alcholoic drink served in a metal teapot, and surprisingly, there is much more in that teapot than you would expect. It easily provides six to eight generous pours. The flavor is subtly sweet with a pleasant tang. ~ Temaki Set - 4/5 stars You can order a set of three by choosing from selections 1-17, or you can order a la carte at the listed prices. Some of the temaki stood out more than others. Our two sets included marinated salmon, bluefin tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy bluefin, and two dynamite temaki. ~ Spicky Pork Ssam Set - 5/5 stars Truly another standout entree that even surpassed my beloved grilled BBQ bossam. You received a generous basket of assorte greens, including romaine, kale, perilla leaves, dandelion leaves, nappa cabbage, and more. It is well worth the price and makes for a fun, interactive dining experience with your family and friends. There is also various banchan offered and this time, they were beyond kind enough to offer refills. The last time we were here, we ordered just as much food and they stated they normally did not offer refills, which I thought was very odd. With its casual bougie aesthetics, this spot has quickly become one of my favorite eateries in Fort Lee-lee, It beautifully blends Korean, Japanese, and American flavors in a way that feels both comforting and elevated. Needless to say, we will be back!

Short Review- Outstanding Restaurant Week Menu. Get the Hoe Muchim, Yukhoe, Gangjeong, Galbi-Jjim,…read moreand if you want to be very full, the Pyongyang Cold Noodle. I went back to this Korean spot with a group for their $60 Summer Restaurant Week menu, which I'll abbreviate as RW from now on. I was not expecting the biggest portions as the menu is a bit pricey, but I was surprised in a good way. Compared to the regular menu, this is a fantastic deal, being both high quality and with large portions. You can see the previous review regarding the nice space, which is from a converted library. The only distinction this time was that they were much more crowded. The server was friendly, though he did rather haphazardly drop off all of the appetizers instead of giving them to the specific people who ordered them, leading to a bit of confusion. To drink, I shared a bottle of 24% Soju Dokdo, which another person had ordered at the bar prior to me arriving during happy hour. As per the other time before we got the other courses, they gave us some kimchi as well as a cold soup as an amuse bouche. The soup consisted of cucumber, tomato agar jelly, basil oil, and Korean pear. The soup is refreshing, cold, slightly herbal, and a little bit sweet, and worked perfectly to whet our appetite. The RW menu that followed consisted first of one choice each from three different options: vegetable, sea, and meat. Afterwards, there was a choice of main and a side dish, and then dessert. From the appetizers, my vegetable choice was the Lotus Root Gangjeong/연근강정, a pair of fried lotus root slices with a mild sweetness, presumably from rice syrup/물엿. The lotus root had a light fry, with a mild crunch, but it was the most basic of the dishes. Other people enjoyed the Asparagus Japchae/아스파라거스잡재 and the Acorn Jelly/도토리묵. I tried the latter, and it was refreshing and tasty with an interesting mix of textures. Compared to the other appetizers, this was also the only course without a supplement, which makes sense since it was vegetables. From the sea section, I ordered a dish I got last time, the Hoe Muchim/회무침, listed on the menu as seasonal fish, gochujang, and soybean powder, which all came with kim/seaweed for DIY handrolls. The dish is normally $24, and of course, the portion was slightly smaller, but it was still sizable. As this was the case with the other dishes, I won't mention that again. The fish in this case was raw salmon, which was buttery, and paired with the crunchy vegetables, the sweet/spicy/mildly fermented gochujang, and the nutty soybean powder. Another person enjoyed the Shrimp Pancakes/새우전, saying that there was plenty of shrimp inside, and no one ordered the $5 extra Abalone Salad/전복냉채. Finally, for meat, I went with the Yukhoe/육회, the Korean version of beef tartare with Korean pear and egg yolk, which is normally $28. The meat was tender with a mild fragrance from sesame oil and a bit of sweetness from the paired, well, pear. No one got the Spicy Fried Chicken/닭튀김, while someone else splurged and loved the $5 extra Beef Cheek Suyuk/소뽈살수육. For my main dish, as with a few others as per my recommendation, I went with the $10 extra Galbi-Jjim/갈비찜. Normally $52, this had soy-braised prime beef, Pyogo mushrooms, some potatoes, and some tteok. The short ribs were very tender, with some fat that was flavorful without being too chewy. The broth wasn't as sweet as some other places, with a delightful little bit of spiciness. This was outstanding, just like last time. Others enjoyed the Bossam/보쌈 and the Squid Stir Fry /오징어볶음, with no one getting the Tofu Mushroom Hot Pot/두부버섯전골. As a side, my choice was the Mushroom Sotbap/버섯솥밥, which is $10 extra, but shared between two people. Normally for $38, this had golden queen rice, mushrooms, foie gras, and a beef broth, and just like during normal service, they present the full pot before dividing it up. The rice had a strong umami with a bit of crunch from the scorched part, and was delicious like last time. Another person liked the Seasonal Vegetable Bibimbap/산채비빔밥, and one other had the portion of Pyongyang Cold Noodle/평양냉면, with the broth poured at the table. The portion was noticeably gigantic compared to every other dish, and the bit of broth I tried was delicious. For dessert, there were two choices. I got the Korean Melon/참외 with coconut and manchego cheese. The dish was well composed, with a granita/ice made from melon, some coconut sorbet on the bottom, and a very mild cheesy flavor. It was refreshing. A few had the Burdock/우엉 with burdock ice cream, chocolate mousse, and burdock chips. They found it mildly bitter with a bit of nuttiness, and one person liked it, and the other did not. I tried a bit, and I thought it was decent, but I preferred my dessert.
