I wanted to get the lunch special, but since I had a 50% off a second entree coupon I wanted to use, the server informed me I needed to order off the regular menu to use it, so I decided to get the pork loin katsu curry. They brought out our cabbage instantly and gave two dressing with it. Note: The cabbage comes with unlimited refills so eat as much as you want! I ate about 3 bowls of cabbage as the food took a while (about 10-15min) to come. Luckily the server kept bringing cabbage, so I ate that but stopped after 3 bowls as I didn't want to get full on cabbage. When the curry came, it was hot and looked delicious. I noticed that there were only carrots inside and no onions. The curry had a bit of a kick to it but wasn't too spicy. The rice was good, but I wish they gave just a little more so the rice to curry ratio was a bit better. I liked that they gave a good amount of pickles. The pork loin katsu was hot, juicy, and crunchy. My only complaint was that parts of it were extremely fatty or had fat chunks, so that's why I gave 4 stars. Normally I expect 130g of pork to not include huge chunks of fat and to be mostly meat. Overall, not bad, but definitely pricy. For the price I would rather go to a better tonkatsu restaurant in town. The lunch specials are pretty affordable, so might come to try those. We had a reservations for 5:30pm on Mother's Day and got seated as soon as we arrived. However, it wasn't until we got situated that we were told that the food will take about an hour to come out. I understand that they're busy with take out orders, but shouldn't they tell you that when you make the reservation? Anyhow, we went with it because we were already there and I'm sure a lot of places were just as busy. I got the katsu curry, my boyfriend got chicken katsu, my step dad got pork katsu & my mom got the chicken & shrimp katsu. We also got some kushikatsu to share. Although it took a while for our food to come like they mentioned, everything tasted amazing! I love the pickled veggies and the cabbage salad that accompanied the katsu. And you can choose white or brown rice. They also give you sesame seeds that you eat with your katsu sauce. Came here with my grandma for an early dinner for an exciting Friday afternoon! We arrived for the HH which runs from 2-5:30PM and I was able to order a few skewers at the 20% discounted price. Specifically, I got the short rib, negima, and chukuwa skewers. I think the negima was my favorite. These are kushi katsu style meaning they're all breaded in panko and deep fried. My grandma and I also split a pork tenderloin katsu curry. Both quality and portion was solid. However, my favorite part of the meal was the unlimited cabbage + yummy miso and sesame dressings that are provided to each diner. We had chicken katsu curry, and chicken katsu, ebi (shrimp) fry curry. Katsu was crispy, juicy, and delicious; curry was really good, although I wish they added more veggies. Price is what you expect to pay in Hawaii, so from the US mainlander's perspective a bit pricey. However, the food is worth it! My only qualm is that tables are very close to each other it is awkward because you end up listening to other people's conversation. Wow, what a nice surprise to return to Koromo to find out the pork loin katsu is tastier and juicier than its ever been in Koromo's first two years! I didn't expect this tonkatsu to be visually and gastronomically excellent, so I didn't take pictures. Solid 4.5 stars. Here, sesame seeds are pre-ground, and the menu is slightly small. The fact that Koromo is less busy and conveniently located at Pearlridge Center earns its fifth star. Koromo gives those tonkatsu restaurants in Waikiki a run for their money. I came for hot saki and to try the kushikatsu while waiting for someone at the pearlridge mall. (Kushikatsu is basically different things breaded and fried in oil) I was not made a fan or impressed with any of the 13 different samples I tried. My favorite was the mochi. The least favorite was the short rib (and I love short rib) The prices for the dinners seemed above average and if the chicken Katsu is made up of the same ingredients and fried in the same oil, I can say not worth it. The best thing that I had was the free shredded cabbage they give accompanied by the house sauce. The saki was so so. We all know the best saki comes cold, but one arrived luke warm, the next piping hot. The service was good and attentive . As for ambiance, not many tables available. Koromo is a restaurant located in a mall and has plenty of available parking. The staff is friendly and the presentation of the food is beautiful. The miso soup was delicious, not too salty as it can be at some restaurants. The kim chee was so good, I finished it all off. The rice was soft, but hard at the same time, like it had been sitting in the rice cooker for way too long. It was not the worse I had, but I was hoping for better. Both miso and soy vinaigrette dressings were tasty, it was difficult to decide which one to use, so I ate half my cabbage with one and the other half with the other. Ebi Fry was great. But you will really notice the panko when eating the chicken thighs and pork loin. There was nothing special about the panko used...it was no different than ordering these dishes at any restaurant that makes katsu. As a matter of fact, although the pork loin was on a small cooling rack on top of the plate, part of the loin was still soggy on the bottom. The loin was also a bit tough. No complaints about the chicken thigh. For the same price as Tonkatsu Tamafuji, it's not worth eating here. First the finely shaved cabbage is brought out with two dressings, one lighter in color and thicker than the other. Both were good. You can get more of the heaping mound of cabbage when the server comes around with the large bowl. The first 3 tables had their food up very quickly. Ours took a little wait but it was the best I've eaten, even over ones served in Japan. It had the lightest batter perhaps extra extra fine panko- like ingredient so delicately fried but not at all greasy. It just melted once you placed it between your lips into your mouthand the pork was tender beyond belief...exquisite! The meal itself was quite filling with the rice, curry sauce and tasty and good reddish pickles. I'm glad I ordered a Diet Coke which totally satisfied me. The curry is more a medium spicy, it didn't kick in until I was enjoying the rice with the curry at the end. Hubs didn't say how his chicken katsu curry was but he kept watching me enjoy mine. My brother loves this place and he chose this place to eat for his birthday. Since he's so last minute, we decided to just order take out and eat at home. This restaurant is more reservation based, and normally the wait time for no reservations is 1 hour. We've eaten here many times in the past and normally of course we get the pork loin katsu. This past time while waiting for my brother's birthday take out dinner, we ordered online at 530, got there around 6 and our food wasn't ready. The guy was trying to give my mom a bag that wasn't ours saying "I think this is yours." When she told him it wasn't, he looked thru the register for our order and said he sees our order but the persons order on the counter must have took ours. We had a $100+ order and all he said was "we'll make it right now." It's fine and understandable if this restaurant is short staffed, but the customer service they put out isn't one that makes you feel like you're spending your money on where you're appreciated. We got our food around 7 which means we didn't even actually eat dinner until a whole hour after we meant to. There was no apology and even when my mom had inquired about how long it would take, the answer was "we'll make it as fast as we can." I love tonkatsu and have been hearing good things about Koromo, located in Pearlridge Makai on the 2nd level. I made reservations for 6 PM on a Wednesday and the restaurant was pretty empty. By the time we decided on our choices and ordered the place filled up. The dinners here are generally between $20-$25. My sons opted for the pork loin and I ordered the pork loin and oyster combination. We started by grinding our sesame seeds in small Japanese mortar and pestle which we added to our sauces. We were given a generous side of various tsukemono (Japanese pickles) which I thought were ver tasty. Our meals come with a generous amount of finely shredded cabbage and dressings. Our pork loin Katsu was very good and juicy and the two sauces were both equally tasty. My disappointment was the oyster katsu. The only give you two and the tartar sauce was a little too salty. I tried the sauce then I opted to use the Katsu sauce instead, but it really masked the of the oysters. They will give you more cabbage if desired. We had 5 beers between the 3 of us and the check came out to $126. Not bad, but I will come back during lunch next time because the lunch menu offers cheaper meals. read more

I was really impressed with the quality of the food here. Especially when it is located in the mall. I really recommend you drizzle one of their dressing on top of the shredded cabbage with a little of the lemon juice. The portion of the large pork tonkatsu was very filling only because they are served with a side of rice and miso soup. The wait time for the food was at a reasonable time given the fact that pork needs to be fully cooked. The fried oyster was decent for me only because I'm not too fond of fried oysters. I had to get out of my comfort zone and venture off! As for customer service, it was good because our server was polite and friendly. He did check to see if the food quality was fine. The cleanliness of the restaurant is up to par, and there was no long wait once I arrived. Oh by the ways, I dined in on early Friday evening. It is always safe to make reservation in advance. I've dined in here pre-COVID and recently ordered takeout during the pandemic. My dine-in experience was great. Nice and friendly service and the food was great. I had the pork loin, which was delicious and juicy. Their sauces were also great (they had two choices when I went). I also loved the cabbage and the goma dressing for it. It helps to round out the fried food very nicely. For takeout, I got the chicken katsu sandwich (I think it's a takeout only special). It's huge! Definitely worth it. They had two sauces in containers for me, they look almost exactly the same but one was spicy and the other was not. So be careful of which one you use (but both were tasty). The sandwich was messy, so ask for extra napkins. I would definitely get this again. IMO, it's not as good as Tamafuji, but pretty darn close. The food here is a little too oily for my preference. They offer unlimited cabbage and dressing with any entree, so if you don't get full from your mains, eat the greens! The dressing that accompanies the cabbage is like a miso salad dressing, so it's light and sweet. For food, we ordered Chicken Katsu Curry, Ebi Fry, Pork Katsu, and Curry, and Pork Loin Katsu. Everything was so flavorful and had a deeper curry taste than Curry House. I would say it tastes similar to Tonkatsu Tamafuji at Kapahulu.
