Came into Kosmo's Bop Shop late on a snowy night after a long day at work, and it ended up being exactly what we needed. Kosmo himself assisted us, and he was incredibly welcoming and kind -- even that late. You can really feel the care and pride he puts into the place, and it made the whole experience feel comforting. My partner ordered the bulgogi meal, and I went with The Bop! with bulgogi as my protein. Both dishes were amazing -- hot, flavorful, and packed with that perfect balance of sweet, savory, and fresh ingredients. The bulgogi was tender, seasoned perfectly, and honestly some of the best I've had in a while. It hit so hard after being out in the cold. Overall, Kosmo's Bop Shop delivered exactly what we were hoping for: great food, great service, and a cozy vibe on a freezing night. Huge appreciation to Kosmo for taking care of us. I have been on a search for excellent bulgogi/bibimbop recently and I figured I needed to try Kosmo's Bop Shop as that is pretty much their whole schtick. I ordered the bulgogi (13.50) which came with two vegetable toppings on a bed of rice. For my vegetable toppings, I chose the kimchi and the daikon. Portions of both were good but the kimchi was not tasty, it was very bland and didn't have a good crunch to it at all. I also opted to add an additional topping (broccoli) for $1.50 extra and the amount they gave me was PITIFUL. You can see in the picture attached, it was maybe $0.10 of broccoli if I'm being generous and it was very limp and sad. The bulgogi was excellent - cooked well and seasoned deliciously - and there was a solid amount of it, so I felt like I got a good value despite the broccoli being pathetic for the extra cost. The rice was cooked well but didn't taste seasoned at all. Some sesame oil and rice vinegar would have gone a long long way to elevate this as a meal because I felt like I had to douse it in the (albeit delicious) "bap sauce" which was basically gochujang in order to have any flavor. I also didn't love that the takeout container was aluminum as I like to reheat leftovers in the takeout container for ease and obviously my microwave wouldn't have been too happy about that in this case. Overall not bad. Maybe would go back but the search for great Korean continues!! read more

This place is lile a hole in a wall kind of place, where everyone would be comfortable to eat. Walls are decorated with graffiti like. Regular tables & chairs. Nothing fancy. I ordered the Kosmo's GoTo BOP mix. & BF got the Bulgogi. I like that they give you the sauce on the side (squeeze bottle) so you could control the amount you want in your bowl. Two things I love: graffiti and deliciously seasoned beef and chicken! Both things are available in full force at this spot. We were greeted by a young man after our group entered. He explained the menu to us and how to order. I'm eating low carb at the moment, so I asked about making their bowls friendly for low carb. The young man seemed a bit thrown off by the question. It was hard to understand what he was explaining. I think I threw him off a memorized spiel or something. Also, when the food came out, they gave me chicken, instead of the beef I ordered. For that and for the weirdness when I asked about low card options, I'm. It giving it five stars. Regardless, the chicken was delicious and I didn't feel the need to ask them to change to the beef. What a delicious bowl or chicken, eggs, and vegetables! Enjoyed every single bite. The walls were covered in graffiti. The was even art on the ceiling tiles. It was urban, it was youthful, it was energetic. But also felt very genuine. Not polished. I could tell this was all done by true graff artists, same as they'd throw it on a wall anywhere. I wanted to love this place so bad! I came for lunch, and unfortunately they have had to pare down their menu to the bop, bulgogi, and teriyaki chicken. I ordered the bop and after i told them my order, they told me they were out of a ton of the ingredient choices on their menu. Most heartbreaking, they didn't have kimchi or pickled daikon. I feel like those are the two things that you should never run out of at a Korean restaurant. You might as well be out of rice! It's basically a Korean Bibimbap version of Chipotle, definitely fits in line with the aesthetic of a college town like Ann Arbor. If you're looking for authentic Bibimbap this probably isn't the place considering their main menu item is called "The BOP". That being said, they came out with the food relatively quickly and customizability of your order is quick and simple. I got the BOP with Beef, which was delicious. Carrots, Kimchi, and Onions were solid, the radish was a little flavorless. I liked the meal overall, but given that we could only select 4 toppings before paying extra, and it came in a steel mixing bowl left a little to be desired in terms of the usual Bibimbap experience. But I think the food was still delicious, and the service was speedy, and at the end of the day that's what matters. You will not be disappointed. read more

Did takeout from here and had a very pleasurable experience! Made a quick call, placed my order on my way home from the east side of town for the bulgogi bibimbop, and 15 minutes later I swung by and scooped it up. Easy peasy. Got home and unpacked my meal and it was great. There was plenty of beef, the veggies I added were also plentiful and perfectly sautéed, the rice wasn't as crispy as it gets when you order a bowl of bibimbop in house but I guess that's to be expected in a plastic takeout container vs a hot stone bowl. The sauce that it came with was also plentiful and it was served on the side so the dish wouldn't get soggy and I could control how much flavor I wanted. I added plenty to get everything nice and saturated and I still had half the small container left. Parking can be challenging. Luckily I found a tow zone spot in front to park briefly in. I'm glad the pick up was so easy because I was super nervous about getting a ticket but I was in and out fast enough that it wasn't a problem. Yay! read more

I am super fond of Kosmo's. It was one of my favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor during my senior year (2018). I would frequent it whenever I would get the late-night growls in my bowels. -AKA: the times when I was hankering for some gucci Korean food, but didn't have the time or patience to cook it. I love the atmosphere, the graffiti-art, the simplicity of the menu (Korean/American fusion), the classic Bibimbap, the savory Bulgogi, the "Twigim"- a slightly healthier alternative to fries, the fact it's open late, the fact it's affordable, and that the owner is a genuine guy, working to support his sons. I even chose Kosmo's for my post graduation meal. I could've picked between Sava's, Zingerman's, Frita-Batidos, or hell... even Pacific Rim. These are all extraordinary culinary establishments in Ann Arbor, and many of my fellow classmates probably did choose 'em for graduation meals. But, the simplicity of Kosmo's won over my heart and my wallet. This is a late review, but thank you so, so, much for the calories, memories, delicious sauces, and smiles. Hope to be back soon. P.S. I think this one of the only affordable Korean Restaurants in AA, which is well-ventilated enough, so that your clothes don't smell like Korean food for days after. This is a great place to get lunch on weekday (took about 15 minutes to get our bowls out). They primarily serve bibimbap with some side dishes. We tried the spring/egg roll which had some great fresh cabbage in it, but was weirdly black peppery (not an authentic flavor). All of the cooked portions (meat, tofu, egg on top, spinach, etc) were cooked well. The bean sprouts were a little too salty, but not bad. The pickled stuff left a bit to be desired. The daikon tasted very plasticky and more like preservatives than vegetables and the cucumbers, while quite fresh, were a bit heavy on the vinegar. Overall, a bibimbap version of Chipotle. Oh the hype! It s a fun place but... place is empty on a Monday late lunch hour. Still took 20 mins to get my bop. No chopsticks, but I was welcomed to use the huge spoon in the bowl. That was a bit annoying. The bowl was a good size portion for the price. The beef was a bit salty which over powered any flavor it had. The cucumbers are pickles. Typical cucumbers are somewhat pickled in bop but these was Shrek-green pickles. All and all the flavor was good. I also wish my bowl was hot and just not lukewarm. Very small menu and friendly staff. I don't think I'd go back unless someone else insisted. The wait was ridiculous. I'd hate to see what it would be when they are busy. PS. After a night out at the bars, I love stopping by this place for a good late-night, Korean-infused meal! I usually order the Bulgogi Pita Sandwich and add $2 for a side of sweet potato fries. The fries come with a sweet, caramelized dip and compliments the savory sandwich nicely. I definitely prefer this place over Fleetwood Diner (right next door) and the staff members are friendly, especially considering the amount of non-sober people they have to deal with haha. The bop shop is a great nostalgic late night stop in Ann Arbor. I lived in A2 in the 90s and loved going to the original Kosmos when it was only a small area at the Kerrytown market. They have since expanded to a larger area at the market, serving much more than they had in the past, but the Kerryrown location is missing a few things that they now carry at the Bop Shop. It's all about the 'twigim' which is vegetable tempura, and the egg roll. They are both unique and extremely tasty. The egg roll is one of the best in the area and the tempura veggies remind me of childhood and they're absolutely delicious ( don't forget to add the sweet and sour sauce)!!! The staff are friendly and cool too. My only complaint about the Bop Shop is the small menu. If they carried a few more main items it would be a 5 star review for sure. As I continue coming here I might give a better review anyway, but I'd like to see a few more options on the menu. The bibimbap and bulgogi were absolutely delicious. It was a comfortable, cozy way to end the evening. The hours are also great, I would definitely come here again in the future for late night food. In short: Average food Very slow service Came here for dinner and left disappointed. Ordered the bulgogi which was well priced at around $9.20 including tax. The problem was with the speed of service. It took around 20~25 minutes for this simple dish to come out, considering that the restaurant was not at all busy when I ordered, it was a major disappointment. To make things worse, my food was served later than the person who ordered around 10 minutes after I did. I wasn't expecting a huge apology or anything like that for the slow service, but to have my food served after the person who came 10 minutes after me was a slap in the face. Food itself was okay, it's about what you would expect from any other Korean restaurants in AA. No soup or side dishes were seved with the dish, as you might expect from the $9 price tag.
